My first time visiting Woowa, and it definitely won't be my last! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere welcoming and the music was a vibe. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and amazingly prepared. You can really tell they put care and heart into every dish. Let me say one thing, not a fan of arugula, but the spicy cucumber arugula salad "chefs kiss" We also had the redondo seafood jeon, and the N pork belly. One thing that really stood out to me was reading the story behind the name "Woowa." Learning that it was inspired by their son's joyful expression of wonder made the experience even more meaningful. It's clear this isn't just a restaurant; it's a place built with love, gratitude, and a genuine desire to create memorable experiences for every guest. High recommended!

Tteok Galibi Meal Set (Monday Lunch Special)

Woowa is a cozy Korean-Italian fusion restaurant with top quality food and great service. I stopped by on Monday for lunch with a coworker for the first time. After some deliberating, I decided to give the Monday lunch special (Tteok Galibi meal set) a try. The food came out fairly quickly and the owner/chef was very nice. I have to say, I've been to a lot of Korean places before but I haven't had Korean food that was this good in a long, long time! The meat was tender, extremely flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The salad was well-tossed with a delectable dressing that was sweet and savory. The rice was also the sticky kind, which I prefer. Overall, I was blown away by the quality of each and every part of this meal. Kudos to the owner/chef! I highly recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for some of the best Korean food this area has to offer. I will be back again soon to try the other items on the menu for sure! A hole in the wall restaurant that is 100% worth trying in the Gardena area. Met up with friends and went as soon as they opened. They have a lot in the back where you can park. The food was AMAZING. The server/cook, Joon, was so helpful when we were trying to decide what to order. Love that they have a page of their recommended food items. The spicy cucumber arugula salad was definitely one of the best I've had. Nice and refreshing! I also enjoyed their seafood pajeon and pork belly dish. I wish I lived closer because this would be a great place to go to for drinks too! Highly recommend!

Woowa is an extremely charming late-night spot nested on Western Ave, the legendary street that spans from Hollywood all the way down to PV. I highly recommend making a visit as they do Korean-Italian fusion in a very interesting way that you can't find anywhere else. I've been here about three times now -- earlier into the restaurant's opening and have been pleased to see its growth in such a short amount of time. Let's start with the appetizers; the rice paper-wrapped boneless fried chicken was very surprising. It's unlike other fried chicken, with a lighter texture that doesn't sacrifice the juice. It's a great snack throughout the night. I wasn't a big fan of the arugula salad as it was way too acidic (too much vinegar) and hope that gets adjusted. I do wish they'd add soy garlic WINGS... we are severely lacking in quality wings in Gardena and think Woowa would kill it. CM chicken across the street does not pass my bar, nor does Love Letter a few blocks down. There's also the kimchi pancake, which was very sizable and perfect for a group of 4. They fortunately provide a "top hits" menu, so I recommend you order from that last on your first visit. The top one is the bulgogi meatball, served with a killer gochujang salad. The salad needs to be a side option! The meatball was juicy and well-balanced; the rice was impeccably soft and paired well. You did order alcohol, right...? Because there's more to discuss. The N Pork Belly was INCREDIBLE. It's the highest quality pork belly in Korea and the dish was served on a cast-iron skillet, making every bite juicy and crispy all at once. It's a nice "side dish" as it doesn't come with rice or pasta. The brisket set is no longer on the menu as of writing but I quite enjoyed that one! Next top dish would be the carbonara and risotto - very creamy, yet the Korean flavors shine through to make every bite nostalgic and playful. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapaghetti - I ordered it with pork belly but they should add a steak option to reference the dish in the Parasite film...! I would probably pass on the smoke bulgogi next time around as it didn't wow me enough; the chicken noodle soup was very heartwarming and I think it'd be perfect after tons of alcohol. I've even been to Woowa during the world cup game and it was the perfect atmosphere. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming and you can tell every detail has been treated with care. I will say, between the dishes and drinking, the bill can run you up. I believe my average check is ~$120. I wished there were smaller plates with smaller prices so that groups of 2 can budget better, or groups can try more options. During the daytime, they do sell Korean-inspired sandwiches, so that's also another way to get a cheaper bite. Reminds me of The Bear... :) Overall, I am always a champion for late-night eats in Gardena; we always need more! Woowa is the perfect destination spot or even a companion spot to Donna's bar nextdoor. Give them a try!!! I'll see you there.

Woowa is a nice Korean/Italian located in a small strip building on the corner of Marine and Western Ave. Street parking is available and also about 8 parking stalls around back. The owner is a nice fellow and tonight when we for dinner, he was a one man show. Hosting, waiting and cooking and did everything really well. He took the time to explain the menu and even gave great recommendations. We made a reservation and highly recommend that as they get pretty busy even other yelpers suggested it. Overall a great dining experience!

Always passed by here, looked mysterious and wanted to give it a shot! Came here on a Thursday night with some friends. There's a few parking spots in the back and street parking. Inside there's a couple of tables and bar seating. We shared: Pancake: (3/5) least favorite dish. Feel like it wasn't very hot, flavor was decent though Fries with beef (5/5) beef was so tender, sauces were good and it was good ole crispy fries Rose pasta with meatball (4/5): wish the sauce was more flavorful, was definitely more garlic forward. the meatball was more like a patty and was slightly sweet which was good. Beef with salad/rice (5/5): beef was nice and tender. Same beef they used on the fries. Nice it came with their salad too. Service was really friendly, it was one guy who I think may be the manager or owner. Would come back to try the other dishes!

A nice little gem in Gardena! My hubby just found out about this place and brought us here for lunch! It's small and cozy on the inside and there's a decent amount of seating. It wasn't too busy when we got there for Sunday lunch. We ordered: - woowa chicken: very light and crispy on the outside, super juicy on the inside - ramyeon risotto: it even had a little presentation by the chef! Tasted great! Savory and def a little kick - pork belly: came with cooked onions and kimchi. Meat was a little on the saltier side but with the onions and kimchi, very good! Unfortunately, we were starving and didn't take pics until we were done eating Will def come back to try some other dishes! Oh, I can't write a review without talking about parking. There's a small lot in the back and also residential parking.

My friend and I came here because we were hungry and needed something open late! Found WOOWA and I thought it was a very cute name! The food is really delicious and filling. As I spend most of my nights, I was searching for a restaurant to eat at and stumbled upon Woowa with really great ratings and figured I'd give it a try. The place was empty and with only the owner and one other staff member I can say, this place is hands down, the sleeper pick of the year. The music was upbeat and wasn't too loud to the point where I had to shout to talk. The owner himself routinely came around to check on us and how we were enjoying the food. Speaking of the food, it was phenomenal! I got the tteok Galbi, one of their most popular items, my dad got the pork belly, and we shared the spicy cucumber salad. All three of which were phenomenal. The owner mentioned that he is an Italian cuisine trained chef and it is a beautiful addition to the food scene of Gardena. The Galbi meatballs in my order were the perfect consistency and soaked up the sauce better than regular Galbi. The spicy cucumber salad was acidic and semi-spicy, perfect to cut the richness of the galbi and pork belly. I had to leave a review because this place cannot go under as it would be a travesty to foodies everywhere but I hope that when this place gets the hype it deserves, I'll still be able to find a table. read more

We planned to try this place for weeks now because the menu sounded so delicious-- and let me tell you the food was all AMAZING! It's Italian cooking blended with Korean ingredients. I thought everything was sooo delicious and Joon the chef was so friendly and sweet. We ordered the pork jowl, kimchi pajeon and rose gnocchi. The gnocchi is actually sujebbi, the texture is so nice you have to try it! The price for everything was also so reasonable. First found this place on yelp and tried to call in a togo order for their dinner menu; unfortunately, they currently don't accept takeout for dinner menu; just for lunch menu! Ended up coming back to dine in in person for the dinner menu; their chicken pasta was amazing and i had to come back for their tteokgalbi which comes with delicious salad on the side! Such a gem of a new restaurant in Gardena. Don't come here looking for traditional Korean. Woowa is a delicious fusion style restaurant featuring the yummiest of Korean inspired bar food. The owner does it all and guided us through every part of our experience, from the moment we walked in. We celebrated my aunt's birthday here and everyone left feeling very satisfied. The owner was kind enough to even serve my aunt a generous portion of ice cream as a birthday treat. If you are looking for some good Korean food, come here! Came here to meet up with my family and was told that this place is great....and it definitely was. I got the pork belly, soy garlic chicken, and balsamic salad. The rest of my family got the kimchi pancake, galibi set, and some other stuff. Wish I had more photos because we ate it too fast and forgot to take more photos. But the food is amazing. The galibi...so tasty. If you are looking for some good Korean food, come here. Service is great. The guys who runs this restaurant are doing everything to make the place run well and I admire their hard work. They were nice and kept checking up on us. Food and service were wonderful, the food came out quickly and was very fresh. I got the bulgogi, along with the rice cake/sausage plate. The front of the restaurant is very unassuming but the ambience inside is nice, you can't hear the busy street outside. I will definitely be back for the sandwiches during lunch! the mrs. and I are pretty picky about our restaurant, once we find one we like we tend to keep returning for the risk of being disappointed in this day and age is too great, financially and emotionally. so when trying a new spot we are incredibly critical (to the point of near-unfairness) but that's what working in the industry does to you! so let me say when we left impressed and excited for our next visit, that is saying something. let's go over what we liked: 1.the owner! super chill guy who welcomed us in and went over the menu with us. he's a Korean national but majored in Italian cuisine which is reflected in his menu offerings. the fusion items all sounded great. 2.the food was bang on! perfectly seasoned and hearty with all the nuances you'd typically find from a higher end establishment. 3. the wide spread of types of dishes from traditional to wildly imaginative. things that could be improved: first, mostly nitpicking here but it's incredibly dark in the shop. i supposed it could be for mood but it was kinda bumming me out. maybe more ambient light sources could help. second, kpop is the dominant music of choice playing in the background which is fine but perhaps it was a signal issue? the sound was cutting in and out constantly which got pretty annoying fast. lastly, while the portions were decent the price tag was up there. expect to spend at least $25+ per person, even more if you drink. definitely not cheap eats. that's pretty much it for now. Will be back soon to try their other offerings. tips: the lunch and dinner menus are different and they mostly don't cross over. there is parking in the rear accessible by a small alley. dont sleep on this spot, it's got huge potential and I'm investing early. read more

Because with the garlic and jalapeño , it cuts through the spice and taste well with my soju "DECADENT " Rose Gnocchi 8.5 : the creamy with savory hits differently . I was exploring local spots in the neighborhood and decided to try a fairly new place called Woowa -- and it was truly "WOW" (which is actually what woowa means ). They started us off with a welcome appetizer: grilled mini cabbage topped with cheese. It was perfectly savory and absolutely delicious! The samgyeopsal (pork belly) was sliced to the perfect thickness, and it came with bean sprouts and kimchi -- such an amazing combo and perfect with drinks. It also seemed to include some new items, or at least ones that weren't printed out on the placemats. We've previously tried their cold noodles, galbi, hot stone bimbimbap, tofu soup and seafood pancake. All are pretty good but the cold noodle is our favorite. This time we ordered their fishcake kimbap and the cold noodle and galbi combo. I previously saw photos of their kimbap but didn't see it on their menu until now so I was excited to try it. It comes with 20-24 pieces and a side of soup, quite a lot actually for one person. The kimbap was as expected, it was flavorful, had a slight crunch (from the pickled radish) and didn't fall apart easily while eating. It comes with a dipping sauce but it wasn't particularly noteworthy and I didn't feel it is required to use. The cold noodles were a bit different this time but overall had the same flavor. It comes with half an egg, pickled vegetables, slices of cucumber, and slices of meat in an icy broth with buckwheat noodles. Be sure to add the mustard and vinegar for added flavor. The side of galbi was as expected, but doesn't arrive sizzling like at many other Korean restaurants. The flavor can vary, sometimes more flavorful than other times but overall it still pairs well with the cold noodle. Service can be a bit spotty, especially when they only have one server doing everything. It can be hard to flag someone down so be prepared to sit around for a while if they have less staff and many customers. Overall not a dealbreaker but just something to be aware of.

The first thing I tried was the Sizzling Mushroom Gravy over Crispy Rice; The dish was to die for and my personal favorite thing I tried. I don't even know how to describe how flavorful and well put together the gravy was with mushroom pieces that were perfectly soft and easy to eat. Next was the salad which was so fresh, citrusy, and tasty; It was salty and all the flavors complemented each other so well forming a perfect citrusy salad. After that was the shrimp tempura. It was not too fried/flaky. It was kind of like a taquito. The shrimps flavor was very fresh with a complementary umami flavor. The Sardine Sashimi was super high quality. It was super soft and fatty and ended with a heavy pleasant fishy flavor. The miso grilled cod was great. Not much to say about it was almost creamy and the miso was good. I ate the skin too and it tasted great. The main part of this place is the soba. The kikouchi soba are thicker 100% buckwheat noodles that were very well cooked and pleasant to eat. The Plum "Ume" broth was so refreshing and nice. I ate it cold; I probably would have preferred it hot but the is just a personal preference. The Ginger Pork was great. The pork itself was super gingery without being too pungent. The shredded cabbage was super easy to pick up and eat and the side of noodle salad and miso soup were great complements to the meal. I can tell no corners were cut anywhere and that Otafuku puts a little of effort into every meal they prepare. There is great care for all of the preparations and it was a very special meal. Updating my recent review: Service was great, Jace is the chef, server, and dishwasher. He constantly checked in on us making sure we were satisfied. The restaurant itself feels like a party waiting to happen with good music. Food is phenomenal. I had the opportunity to order and try from lunch and dinner. During lunch, had the Hongdae Meatball Sandwich and the Tteok Galbi. My goodness the serving alone is more than generous. Flavor in each bite and paired well with the coleslaw. If you are a big fan of cheese, add it on top of the Tteok Galbi, epic cheese pull incoming. Came back for dinner and tried one of the top 10 dishes. There's a reason why it is top 10 (pork belly and Tteok Galbi). Each dish brings a unique flavor that only Chef Jace can make. Tteok Galbi again, no questions asked, thats how much I love it. Kimchi pancake is crispy and captures authentic flavor. The soy korean fried chicken is packed with flavor. You know its amazing when you bite and its so hot (freshly made) but so good.
