Very impressed by how tasty everything was! We came around 9pm with a group of 7 and we were seated at a table. Appreciated that they have a small parking lot. Street parking is also available. Service was a little slow but it was a busy night and it looked like it was just two people. We didn't really mind the wait. It's a bit loud inside but a fun vibe with friends to chat over a good meal. They put a fan near us which was appreciated because it was a warm night. Everything we had was delicious. Most of our dishes came from their recommended list! Will definitely be coming back to try more of their food!
Woowa (wow-ah) is right! The food matches Chef Joon's impressive credentials, experience, and attention to detail. Yes, service can be slow at times because he's a one man show, but good/great/amazingly delicious things come to those who wait--and the food here is absolutely worth the wait! 우와~ This is a great cozy place to dine in Gardena if you haven't checked it out yet. It's a little nondescript but that makes it a great find when you walk in. It's giving pocha vibes if you're into that. We had just landed from a late night flight and were craving some comfort food so we came here. Sudok sudok, Jjapaghetti, and Rose sujebi were all bangers. Everything was comforting, yummy, and savory. The portions were reasonable. For the food quality and the fact that they're open late, this place deserves all the support. We're hoping to come back to try the rest of the menu eventually heh. They have a small parking lot out back or street parking is available as well. Either way, this is a nice spot to stop by any time of the week and any time of the day.
We saw this late night join that have great review that open till Midnight. Was hungry after Sofi Stadium concert and finally arrived past 11pm. Small cozy restaurant with the few tables for 4 and 1 longer table at front. You can enter from with street parking or back door with back parking, better. Saw the Chef's sommelier long certificates wall posted. Great accomplishment! Only ordered 2 item. The Tteok Galbi Meal Set and Creamy Toowoomba Ramyeon Risotto. Food taste is 9/10. Very delicious and yummy. The Galbi is marinated meatballs, very tasty. Including Salad and dressing. The risotto is a mini show. Come in Buldak Ramen Cup upside down with cheese at the bottom. Interesting. Creamy and yummy. Portion is on larger side, like family style, thus the price is on higher side. Might come again and try different item.
Stopped by after Ho'olaule'a at Alondra Park. Long lines for food. Parking is on street or there is a small lot behind the restaurant and you can enter through the back door. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and told we could sit at any open table. I think the chef was the host, waiter and busser. He was working hard but we couldn't tell he was working solo. Service was great. Inside is small with 10 tables and a small counter with 3-4 seats. The inside got kinda hot if you're eating a spicy dish. There was no airflow. We ordered a lot of food for two because we wanted to try more than two main dishes. We ordered the pork belly, spicy pork belly, the Redondo Seafood Jeon, and Ttokbokki(red). My first time trying Ttokbokki seeing it so many times on Korean TV. Now I know why it's a popular dish. Everything was delicious.
This is a quaint little restaurant run by a wife and husband duo. You can tell both are passionate and hard working. We were greeted at the door and quickly sat. Super friendly service. We were checked on throughout the evening and communication was honest about the possible delays in the kitchen as it's just the chef pumping out all the orders. It was so worth the wait for amazing flavor and freshness! We ordered the spicy cucumber salad, Rosè pasta with meatball and Dad's kimchi fried rice. We truly enjoyed everything. Can't wait to return with family and try more items on the menu. I wish this duo lots of success. I highly recommend this gem.
Why Woowa? An intimate small Korean spot off the Main Street of Western. - Not sure why it gives off bar vibes for a fusion Korean x Italian spot. - Consistently busy throughout the weekend nights though you can't tell from the outside. - Love the top 10 list on the menu wonder if it changes quarter to quarter? Would I come back? Yes, I would much better than the other Korean spot around the perimeter. Note: The food is very HEAVY based on what was eaten below. Food 4/5 - N Pork Belly = Loved how it was cooked and crispy + quality was solid - Dad's Kim chee fried rice = Solid with the egg on-top Service 4/5 Consistent follow-up from staff to ensure all is well. Food is sooo delicious! We tried the galbi with rice and salad as well as galbi with French fries. Both were amazing! Service is incredible! I will definitely be coming back and recommending my friends and family. We were seated right away and the host didn't oversell but was honest about recommendations and portion size. If you are craving yummy Korean food, this is your spot! Nice music playing in the background and relaxed ambiance!
This place itched my korean food craving scratch - and then some. The portions were huge! I got tbe tteokgalbi monday lunch special and truly was expecting a small bowl with a patty on top. I was not expecting a container packed with meat, lettuce, and rice that was hard to close. Their spicy pork on top of tofu was also awesome. Flavorful and humongous portion also for an appetizer. I could probably have that as a complete meal. I think this place will make Mondays a lot brighter because now I cant wait to get this lunch special again! Oh and the owner was so kind..makes you want to support these businesses where they really do seem to care about each person's experience! He gave my daughter a little cracker to snack on while we waited for our food to be finished. Woowa has my loyalty now! Can't wait for Monday!
Okay, this is my first time here. I usually don't like Korean fusion food, but my colleagues wanted to try this place out. We are soooo happy that we came here. Every item tasted really good. Not bland, not salty, just perfect amount of sodium lol also, unlike other Korean restaurants in CA, food here is NOT sweet. It's more savory side, so I enjoyed all the menus we ordered. Staff members were extremely friendly. Not just to upsell, but they were very kind enough to explain what food tastes like how, what's more popular, what Korean people prefer, what others prefer, etc. Definitely coming back! A hole in the wall restaurant that is 100% worth trying in the Gardena area. Met up with friends and went as soon as they opened. They have a lot in the back where you can park. The food was AMAZING. The server/cook, Joon, was so helpful when we were trying to decide what to order. Love that they have a page of their recommended food items. The spicy cucumber arugula salad was definitely one of the best I've had. Nice and refreshing! I also enjoyed their seafood pajeon and pork belly dish. I wish I lived closer because this would be a great place to go to for drinks too! Highly recommend!
Woowa is an extremely charming late-night spot nested on Western Ave, the legendary street that spans from Hollywood all the way down to PV. I highly recommend making a visit as they do Korean-Italian fusion in a very interesting way that you can't find anywhere else. I've been here about three times now -- earlier into the restaurant's opening and have been pleased to see its growth in such a short amount of time. Let's start with the appetizers; the rice paper-wrapped boneless fried chicken was very surprising. It's unlike other fried chicken, with a lighter texture that doesn't sacrifice the juice. It's a great snack throughout the night. I wasn't a big fan of the arugula salad as it was way too acidic (too much vinegar) and hope that gets adjusted. I do wish they'd add soy garlic WINGS... we are severely lacking in quality wings in Gardena and think Woowa would kill it. CM chicken across the street does not pass my bar, nor does Love Letter a few blocks down. There's also the kimchi pancake, which was very sizable and perfect for a group of 4. They fortunately provide a "top hits" menu, so I recommend you order from that list on your first visit. The top one is the bulgogi meatball, served with a killer gochujang salad. The salad needs to be a side option! The meatball was juicy and well-balanced; the rice was impeccably soft and paired well. You did order alcohol, right...? Because there's more to discuss. The N Pork Belly was INCREDIBLE. It's the highest quality pork belly in Korea and the dish was served on a cast-iron skillet, making every bite juicy and crispy all at once. It's a nice "side dish" as it doesn't come with rice or pasta. The brisket set is no longer on the menu as of writing but I quite enjoyed that one! Next top dish would be the carbonara and risotto - very creamy, yet the Korean flavors shine through to make every bite nostalgic and playful. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapaghetti - I ordered it with pork belly but they should add a steak option to reference the dish in the Parasite film...! I would probably pass on the smoke bulgogi next time around as it didn't wow me enough; the Ilsan style chicken noodle soup was very heartwarming and I think it'd be perfect after tons of alcohol. I've even been to Woowa during the world cup game and it was the perfect atmosphere. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming and you can tell every detail has been treated with care. I will say, between the dishes and drinking, the bill can run you up. I believe my average check is ~$120. I wished there were smaller plates with smaller prices so that groups of 2 can budget better, or groups can try more options. During the daytime, they do sell Korean-inspired sandwiches, so that's also another way to get a cheaper bite. Reminds me of The Bear... :) Overall, I am always a champion for late-night eats in Gardena; we always need more! Woowa is the perfect destination spot or even a companion spot to Donna's bar nextdoor. Give them a try!!! I'll see you there.

Found a nice, new locally owned restaurant in the area. Got the hangover pasta and the woowa chicken. Both dishes were very well seasoned and the hangover pasta had the right amount of heat to it. The clay pot and the seafood reminds me of a fusion soondubu but with pasta instead. Very good. The Woowa chicken was very unique. Boneless dark meat wrapped in a dumpling skin and fried. A chicken dumpling but with a fuller texture. Would come back to try their other items. read more

Visited the South Bay and my friend introduced me to her latest obsession: Woowa. It's a cozy, family-owned restaurant that serves Korean fusion dishes made with care and perfect for sharing. We ordered the spicy cucumber arugula salad, soy sweet sodduck, and gochujang carbonara pasta. All 4 dishes we had were delicious! Sodduk sodduk, pork belly, toomba ramyeon risotto, and tteok galbi meal. I loved that the food was not sweet, which made it authentic and we didn't get tired of the food. Server was fluent in both Korean and English and was super friendly. The lighting and music is good too. Stopped in for lunch after hearing about it from a friend who raved about his place. The tteokgalbi is very good and portions are great for the price. Also got a dak attack sandwich which I recommend eating quickly because the bread will get soggy fast with the sauce dripping over it. The service and hospitality from the the owner Joon was amazing! My husband discovered this spot on Yelp and decided to stop by for lunch. From the outside, it looks pretty unassuming, but once you step inside, the music sets a great vibe. The food was so good that we ended up coming back later that same night to try the dinner menu. We tried several dishes, and my favorites were the Hongdae meatball sandwich and the rose pasta w/seafood--both were absolutely delicious. The owner, Chef Joon, was incredibly welcoming, provided excellent service, and personally prepared all of the dishes himself. Needless to say, we'll definitely be coming back again and again to try more items on the menu. I also love that they're open late since we tend to eat late. Alright I know my review is a little late, we came here for dinner on Friday night August 27th around 8 or 9, but I felt it necessary to take my time and write something thoughtful while I enjoy the remains of my leftovers. I picked this place at random after my fiancé announced that he had just gotten a bonus at work and wanted to go out for dinner to celebrate. He told me that I needed to pick the place so the pressure was on to find something good. Boy did I deliver. This is the best Korean food I've ever had. Hands down. Not just good either, this place is something truly special. Upon arriving to Woowa we could smell the heavenly scent of grilled meat drifting out on to the sidewalk before greeting us at the door and informing us of what was to come. I loved the vibe in here too, cozy, intimate, and personal which made it absolutely perfect for a date night. It was a full house so we were grateful to take a seat at the bar. Everyone sounded happy which let me know we were in for a treat and I had found the right spot. The waiter welcomed us with so much warmth and hospitality, it really felt like we had been invited to someone's home for dinner. He thoroughly walked us through the menu and when a table opened up he offered it to us, but we were all too happy and content to stay at the bar and enjoyed the front row view of the chef cooking tirelessly away as he stood illuminated by the spectacular bursts of fire leaping from his pan. While waiting for our meal we noticed the phantom like rotation of our water. No sooner had I emptied the carafe than a fresh one would silently take its place, courtesy of a waiter who moved with tactical precision. FOMO washed over me as we watched each plate leave the kitchen, every dish looked amazing and the aroma lingering in the air was so good it felt like a form of sweet torture, pushing our self-control to its absolute limit. Then came our plates. Two orders of the Tteok Galbi Meal set, which arrived like a mountainous hovering island of fresh greens, rice and glistening spheres of beef along with a side of sweet potato fries and warm honey for dipping. I took my first bite and all I managed to say was "oh wow". After that everything is a delicious blur. I don't even think we spoke a single word to each other as we tore into our meals. All forms of communication had been reduced to cave man like grunts and primitive nods of pure satisfaction. Each bite was just as divine as the last. And the portions were gargantuan. On one hand I found myself thinking "we probably could have just ordered one plate between the both of us" and then on the other hand I found myself selfishly thinking "I'm really fucking glad I don't have to share this with anyone". Once we had eaten all that we could we sat there in a blissful daze only coming out of it to express our gratitude for such a wonderful meal. Our waiter and the owner Chef Joon even took some time to chat with us directly which felt really special. They explained to us that they had opened earlier this year and have been hard at work building up their reputation. Chef Joon then began to show us his collection of certificates. Proof that he has dedicated his life to mastering the art of cooking and gastronomy. It was at this very moment I realized something... we didn't just stumble into some trendy, overhyped spot making basic food. We had walked into a brand new restaurant completely unaware that a world class chef was behind the counter cooking our meal. It honestly felt like such a privilege to dine here. Especially before everyone else catches on and makes it impossible to get a table. While my fiancé handled the bill, I took a closer look at the framed certificates lining the wall. He holds certifications in practically everything: wine sommelier, professional chocolatier, and regional culinary arts from Japan, France, Korea, and beyond. I found myself regarding this wall of Chef Joons accomplishments with the same level of pride and admiration one might reserve for an older brother. It was easy to imagine what those years of hard work must have looked like and even easier to notice the level of sacrifice, determination, and above all DISCIPLINE required to achieve it. I left this restaurant feeling incredibly inspired. Some places just serve food, but speaking with Chef Joon felt like being hooked up to a pair of live jumper cables shocking me awake and leaving me totally reenergized. Chef Joon makes you want to elevate yourself and adopt his incredible mindset. There's just something incredibly cool about being in the room with someone that intensely driven. His energy is completely infectious and it definitely left a lasting impression on us. Thank you Woowa for such an unforgettable evening! We are really looking forward to returning and trying more of Chef Joons incredible creations. read more

My husband's coworker recommended this place a few weeks ago, and we finally got a chance to try it -- I'm so glad we did! We ordered the Tteok Galbi Meal Set (Korean beef meatballs with rice and salad) and the Oil Sujebi with clams and zucchini. We enjoyed both dishes; the flavors were great. I especially enjoyed the texture of the sujebi, and they did such a great job cleaning the clams -- I didn't chew on a single grain of sand. A+! Parking was easy on a Thursday, and they have a private lot in the back. The service was also excellent -- very attentive and helpful with menu explanations. We'll definitely be back soon! read more

My husband came across Woowa on Yelp and we decided to check it out. So happy we tried it because the food and service were amazing and it's now one of our favorite restaurants within the area. We ordered about 5 dishes during dinner to be able to try different things (and have some leftovers). My favorites were the rosé pasta with meatball, spicy cucumber arugula salad with sweet potato, and the ramen risotto! And the Yaki Mandu too - honestly it was all good! They were so delicious and I'm happy we have leftovers to eat again today! Joon was an amazing chef & his wife, Elaine, was our super friendly/helpful server. We can't wait to go back again soon! The music, drinks, and portion size were all another plus! We will definitely be back for dinner, but also want to try their lunch menu as they have sandwiches and other items that sound delicious. First time here and it's a vibe. Food is so good and service is amazing. I came later at night and it's a super chill vibe for drinks and good food. Menu ranges from Korean Italian fusion to more traditional items like the pork belly we ordered. Everything is perfectly balanced and seasoned (not too sweet, not too salty or greasy- perf balance). I love this place! Everything on the menu lives up to the restaurant name. "Woowa" is an exclamation of "wow!" and you'll be saying it too when you take your first bite. My husband and I were waiting a long time for this place to open, and as soon as it did we were right there. Jun-ho is an amazing chef, and super friendly. Came here for a quick Sunday lunch We ordered spicy cucumber arugula salad and dduk galbi sandwich; they were both really good! The chef/owner goes the extra mile to make sure you have a great time! Excellent service. Nice local spot for great food and good vibes read more

I hate trying a new restaurant and hating what you ordered. I wish the menu was more descriptive because if it were, I surely would not have ordered the 'spicy' pulled pork fries and rice cake and sausage skewers. What I got was ground pork on top of cold fries w/ Greek yogurt on top (I think??) and little smokie sausages with some type of white discs w/ a sweet sauce. Other patron's dishes looked and smelled good, so I would imagine other dishes were tasty. What I ordered was just a supreme miss for me and justifies the one star :( read more
