I've tried quite a few dishes here, but my favorites are the galbi, tofu soups, and dolsot bibimbap. The galbi is definitely on the pricier side for the portion, but the quality and flavor of the beef make it worth ordering every time. The dolsot bibimbap is a generous portion, especially if you're sharing another entrée, and the crispy rice at the bottom is done just right. My go-to tofu soup is the kimchi and beef with medium spice, which always hits the spot. Everything comes out piping hot and is served with a generous selection of banchan. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. We recently visited this place with a large party of 18 people- baby, kids, and adults- after a funeral. We got here on a Friday mid-afternoon and they were able to accommodate our large party fairly quickly, which was nice. Service was okay- there were about 2 people taking our orders. I'm not quite sure if it's because our group was large but some items came out fairly late/they needed to be reminded of our orders because it wasn't coming out in a timely manner. We ordered everything from tofu soup, kalgooksoo, dumplings, beef, cold noodle soup, fish, and etc...The portions are generous but not all the food tasted good. I can eat this food for days...and I did. Had my fill of Yookgejang and boiled dumplings at the restaurant and still had enough leftovers for 2 additional meals the following day. Granted I eat small to medium sized portions, but still the dishes were well=sized for anyone. I love the yookgejang kalguksoo that I ordered. It wasn't that spicy at all. It was a perfect amount of kick. I felt it had the right amount of beef, which was tender btw, and the noodles were superb. Beware though, the red sauce may splatter when you slurp up the noodles. The soup should probably come with a bib haha. I had some of the boiled dumplings which were good too, but the aesthetic of it was a bit off putting. They were enormous (huge plus) but the boiled ground pork inside looked a bit pink so I felt like I was eating someone's brain. When I took it home, I fried it up a bit snd it was 10x better. They have screens you can order from, which makes it very quick and easy for you to order whenever you are ready. We usually get the Bossam Junsik and the yukgaejang Kalguksu The bossam is nicely presented and colorful. I like the pickled jalepenos that come with it. If you don't want it too spicy, just pick out the seeds. The yukgaejang Kalguksu has an extra kick is you want something with more flavor than just the regular Kalguksu. But I found Jang Su Jang located where Tour Les Jours used to be, few doors down from where Da Maat used to be and found out they reinvented, renovated Da Maat and Cho Dang tofu to come up with JSJ!! The table has a tablet to order but you can also order through the servers that come by. I got the beef and seafood soondubu with medium spice. While my coworkers got the beef bibimbap and Galbitang. The soondubu had a good balanced taste as opposed to a strong anchovy or seafood broth of other soondubus I have had. Also really enjoyed the variety of banchans they give for the meal. The store is also very spacious with lots of seating. We came with four people and ordered the Mille-Feuille Nabe, two tofu soups (Dumpling Soon Tofu and Beef Soon Tofu), LA Galbi, and a Yachae Pajeon (Vegetable Pancake) -- everything was flavorful and satisfying. The banchan here is always a highlight, especially the kimchi, which is hands down my favorite. The food is good enough that I've kept coming back, even when the service has made me question my own judgment. Jang Su Jang can absolutely cook. When the kitchen is on, the food has the depth and comfort you want from a proper Korean meal. The soups are satisfying, the proteins usually hit and there's enough here to remind you why the place has stayed busy. But the experience is uneven. Some servers are great. Others act like your existence is an administrative burden. The banchan is also hit or miss and honestly, weaker than it should be for a place like this. I also had a bad experience with a squid dish once that left me feeling seriously unwell afterward. That should have been enough to keep me away, but the food still pulled me back, which says something. This is not a perfect restaurant. It can be inconsistent, the hospitality can be rough and the details could use more care. But when the food lands, it lands. That's the annoying part. read more

She also brought their delicious complementary Banchan which is a set of small side dishes with items such as kimchi, bean sprouts and pickles. The delicious sauce brought the flavor out of the ingredients. Seafood Tofu: The pot looked messy because the broth was boiling hot and it spilled the tofu bits over the edge. On the plus side it helped to cook the complementary raw egg. The tofu was firm but tender, and the broth was very flavorful. The brown rice paired well with the tofu and broth. Hand Cut Noodle with Seafood Soup: The broth was clear and very flavorful. The noodles were perfectly cooked with nice texture. It has been a few months since I visited Jang Su Jang. It is a great representation of Korean cuisine beyond BBQ (think Baekjeong) and fried chicken (bb.q Chicken). Jang Su Jang offers dishes such as bibimbap (warm rice topped with meat and vegetables), soon tofu (tofu stew), mandoo (dumplings) and guksoo (noodles). Food: I am a huge fan of their bossam (steamed pork slices served with various wraps and toppings) and "wang" mandoo (large dumplings filled with beef, pork, and kimchi), both of which are soooo very good. I also like their eundaegu jorim (braised cod and daikon radishes served in a large earthenware pot, called a ttukbaegi). Finally, I've also enjoyed their dumpling and noodle soups, as well as the haemul pajeon (a seafood and vegetable pancake). I would consider all of these dishes to be Korean comfort food. They also offer a few BBQ dishes (boneless ribs), which they cook on a grill similar to a Japanese habachi), but I would pass on these as the meat just doesn't grill as nicely as at your typical Korean BBQ places. Service: The service is friendly, but can be get a little slow when they are busy. It helps if you speak Korean too. Bottom Line: Jang Su Jang is a very good Korean restaurant that offers something different than your typical BBQ or fried chicken. Definitely worth trying. read more

We went to Jang Su Jang for lunch around 11:30am on a Sunday, and it ended up being a really great first visit. We ordered the dolsot bibimbap with beef, dumpling soup, and BBQ beef short ribs, and shared everything family-style, which worked well given the variety. The short ribs were grilled perfectly - flavorful, tender, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The dumpling soup was also very good; the dumplings were delicious and the broth was smooth with great flavor, especially comforting on a rainy day. The dolsot bibimbap was solid overall. Since we were sharing, I personally could have used a bit more flavor, but it was still well prepared and satisfying. Once mixed in the hot stone bowl, it developed those crispy bits at the bottom, which added nice texture and made the dish more enjoyable. The banchan (side dishes) were plentiful and enjoyable. What surprised me most was the ambience. The space felt modern, sharp, and busy -- in a good way -- which I wasn't necessarily expecting for my first visit.
