Very impressed by how tasty everything was! We came around 9pm with a group of 7 and we were seated at a table. Appreciated that they have a small parking lot. Street parking is also available. Service was a little slow but it was a busy night and it looked like it was just two people. We didn't really mind the wait. It's a bit loud inside but a fun vibe with friends to chat over a good meal. They put a fan near us which was appreciated because it was a warm night. Everything we had was delicious. Most of our dishes came from their recommended list! Will definitely be coming back to try more of their food!
Woowa (wow-ah) is right! The food matches Chef Joon's impressive credentials, experience, and attention to detail. Yes, service can be slow at times because he's a one man show, but good/great/amazingly delicious things come to those who wait--and the food here is absolutely worth the wait! 우와~ This is a great cozy place to dine in Gardena if you haven't checked it out yet. It's a little nondescript but that makes it a great find when you walk in. It's giving pocha vibes if you're into that. We had just landed from a late night flight and were craving some comfort food so we came here. Sudok sudok, Jjapaghetti, and Rose sujebi were all bangers. Everything was comforting, yummy, and savory. The portions were reasonable. For the food quality and the fact that they're open late, this place deserves all the support. We're hoping to come back to try the rest of the menu eventually heh. They have a small parking lot out back or street parking is available as well. Either way, this is a nice spot to stop by any time of the week and any time of the day.
We saw this late night join that have great review that open till Midnight. Was hungry after Sofi Stadium concert and finally arrived past 11pm. Small cozy restaurant with the few tables for 4 and 1 longer table at front. You can enter from with street parking or back door with back parking, better. Saw the Chef's sommelier long certificates wall posted. Great accomplishment! Only ordered 2 item. The Tteok Galbi Meal Set and Creamy Toowoomba Ramyeon Risotto. Food taste is 9/10. Very delicious and yummy. The Galbi is marinated meatballs, very tasty. Including Salad and dressing. The risotto is a mini show. Come in Buldak Ramen Cup upside down with cheese at the bottom. Interesting. Creamy and yummy. Portion is on larger side, like family style, thus the price is on higher side. Might come again and try different item.
Stopped by after Ho'olaule'a at Alondra Park. Long lines for food. Parking is on street or there is a small lot behind the restaurant and you can enter through the back door. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and told we could sit at any open table. I think the chef was the host, waiter and busser. He was working hard but we couldn't tell he was working solo. Service was great. Inside is small with 10 tables and a small counter with 3-4 seats. The inside got kinda hot if you're eating a spicy dish. There was no airflow. We ordered a lot of food for two because we wanted to try more than two main dishes. We ordered the pork belly, spicy pork belly, the Redondo Seafood Jeon, and Ttokbokki(red). My first time trying Ttokbokki seeing it so many times on Korean TV. Now I know why it's a popular dish. Everything was delicious.
This is a quaint little restaurant run by a wife and husband duo. You can tell both are passionate and hard working. We were greeted at the door and quickly sat. Super friendly service. We were checked on throughout the evening and communication was honest about the possible delays in the kitchen as it's just the chef pumping out all the orders. It was so worth the wait for amazing flavor and freshness! We ordered the spicy cucumber salad, Rosè pasta with meatball and Dad's kimchi fried rice. We truly enjoyed everything. Can't wait to return with family and try more items on the menu. I wish this duo lots of success. I highly recommend this gem.
Why Woowa? An intimate small Korean spot off the Main Street of Western. - Not sure why it gives off bar vibes for a fusion Korean x Italian spot. - Consistently busy throughout the weekend nights though you can't tell from the outside. - Love the top 10 list on the menu wonder if it changes quarter to quarter? Would I come back? Yes, I would much better than the other Korean spot around the perimeter. Note: The food is very HEAVY based on what was eaten below. Food 4/5 - N Pork Belly = Loved how it was cooked and crispy + quality was solid - Dad's Kim chee fried rice = Solid with the egg on-top Service 4/5 Consistent follow-up from staff to ensure all is well. Food is sooo delicious! We tried the galbi with rice and salad as well as galbi with French fries. Both were amazing! Service is incredible! I will definitely be coming back and recommending my friends and family. We were seated right away and the host didn't oversell but was honest about recommendations and portion size. If you are craving yummy Korean food, this is your spot! Nice music playing in the background and relaxed ambiance!
This place itched my korean food craving scratch - and then some. The portions were huge! I got tbe tteokgalbi monday lunch special and truly was expecting a small bowl with a patty on top. I was not expecting a container packed with meat, lettuce, and rice that was hard to close. Their spicy pork on top of tofu was also awesome. Flavorful and humongous portion also for an appetizer. I could probably have that as a complete meal. I think this place will make Mondays a lot brighter because now I cant wait to get this lunch special again! Oh and the owner was so kind..makes you want to support these businesses where they really do seem to care about each person's experience! He gave my daughter a little cracker to snack on while we waited for our food to be finished. Woowa has my loyalty now! Can't wait for Monday!
Okay, this is my first time here. I usually don't like Korean fusion food, but my colleagues wanted to try this place out. We are soooo happy that we came here. Every item tasted really good. Not bland, not salty, just perfect amount of sodium lol also, unlike other Korean restaurants in CA, food here is NOT sweet. It's more savory side, so I enjoyed all the menus we ordered. Staff members were extremely friendly. Not just to upsell, but they were very kind enough to explain what food tastes like how, what's more popular, what Korean people prefer, what others prefer, etc. Definitely coming back! A hole in the wall restaurant that is 100% worth trying in the Gardena area. Met up with friends and went as soon as they opened. They have a lot in the back where you can park. The food was AMAZING. The server/cook, Joon, was so helpful when we were trying to decide what to order. Love that they have a page of their recommended food items. The spicy cucumber arugula salad was definitely one of the best I've had. Nice and refreshing! I also enjoyed their seafood pajeon and pork belly dish. I wish I lived closer because this would be a great place to go to for drinks too! Highly recommend!
Woowa is an extremely charming late-night spot nested on Western Ave, the legendary street that spans from Hollywood all the way down to PV. I highly recommend making a visit as they do Korean-Italian fusion in a very interesting way that you can't find anywhere else. I've been here about three times now -- earlier into the restaurant's opening and have been pleased to see its growth in such a short amount of time. Let's start with the appetizers; the rice paper-wrapped boneless fried chicken was very surprising. It's unlike other fried chicken, with a lighter texture that doesn't sacrifice the juice. It's a great snack throughout the night. I wasn't a big fan of the arugula salad as it was way too acidic (too much vinegar) and hope that gets adjusted. I do wish they'd add soy garlic WINGS... we are severely lacking in quality wings in Gardena and think Woowa would kill it. CM chicken across the street does not pass my bar, nor does Love Letter a few blocks down. There's also the kimchi pancake, which was very sizable and perfect for a group of 4. They fortunately provide a "top hits" menu, so I recommend you order from that list on your first visit. The top one is the bulgogi meatball, served with a killer gochujang salad. The salad needs to be a side option! The meatball was juicy and well-balanced; the rice was impeccably soft and paired well. You did order alcohol, right...? Because there's more to discuss. The N Pork Belly was INCREDIBLE. It's the highest quality pork belly in Korea and the dish was served on a cast-iron skillet, making every bite juicy and crispy all at once. It's a nice "side dish" as it doesn't come with rice or pasta. The brisket set is no longer on the menu as of writing but I quite enjoyed that one! Next top dish would be the carbonara and risotto - very creamy, yet the Korean flavors shine through to make every bite nostalgic and playful. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapaghetti - I ordered it with pork belly but they should add a steak option to reference the dish in the Parasite film...! I would probably pass on the smoke bulgogi next time around as it didn't wow me enough; the Ilsan style chicken noodle soup was very heartwarming and I think it'd be perfect after tons of alcohol. I've even been to Woowa during the world cup game and it was the perfect atmosphere. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming and you can tell every detail has been treated with care. I will say, between the dishes and drinking, the bill can run you up. I believe my average check is ~$120. I wished there were smaller plates with smaller prices so that groups of 2 can budget better, or groups can try more options. During the daytime, they do sell Korean-inspired sandwiches, so that's also another way to get a cheaper bite. Reminds me of The Bear... :) Overall, I am always a champion for late-night eats in Gardena; we always need more! Woowa is the perfect destination spot or even a companion spot to Donna's bar nextdoor. Give them a try!!! I'll see you there.

I was very curious of this place because of the perfect reviews on Yelp and Google so I wanted to come check it out. I thought it must be good. It was not good at all. Seafood pancake: the worst I've ever had, it was undercooked, the batter is doughy, some parts were burnt Woowa chicken: nothing worth mentioning, basic fried chicken Oil sujebi: on the salty side and portion was very small compared to the plate it served on Pork jowl: only decent dish that was pretty good but again super small portions Service was also very slow. There was one waiter and only one chef making all the food so everything took so long. Overall, I don't recommend anyone coming here. Don't be fooled by the 5 star reviews, it looks like when people were incentivized to write perfect reviews with free drinks. read more

My 2nd review.. they finally started their dinner menu a month ago!! We've been to Woowa 3-4 times since. The dinner menu is 5 pages long! So many options and everything we've tried were delicious! I really can't say enough nice things about their food! And Joonho, owner/chef, is the nicest man! Our favorites: cream gnocchi with shishito peppers, pork jowl with kimchi in sizzling pot, ramen risotto, moochin mandoo, fries with hot Cheetos (kids fave)! Can't wait to go back to try more stuff! Always easy parking, no reservation necessary (for now.. I have a feeling this place will be packed soon). Soju, beer and wine available. They also have fun drinking games! Tried Woowa on a whim after someone recommended and so glad I did. Everything was great. The food, the vibe and the customer service were all 10/10. Food: ordered the Tteok -Galbi fries with cheese and kimchi, so bomb. Meat is so tender. Also ordered the rose sujebi, noodles are so soft and rosé sauce is so savory and flavorful. Customer service:so friendly, they let you choose your own shot glasses from a box of unique glasses which is cool. They even gave us complimentary bread to dip into the sauce. Great concept but their non-fusion Korean food was average. We tried Kimchi Pork Belly, Chapagetti with Pork Belly & Ramyeon Risotto. The risotto was the highlight & was very flavorful. Its presentation was great. Our 2nd favorite was the Kimchi Pork Belly. The pork was well cooked but needed the accompanying kimchi + onions for taste. Our least favorite was Chapagetti. Although presented well in stone bowl, it tasted like the instant ones that we make at home. The restaurant is small, cozy & dark. Our waitress was very friendly & attentive. Both she & the chef worked well together. Food came out quickly. I hope the restaurant succeeds. We'll return for the Risotto & try more of the fusion dishes, but pass on the Korean dishes. read more

Tried a new spot today, Woowa in Gardena, a Korean-Italian fusion restaurant, and it was really delicious. We went around 5pm and had the whole place to ourselves, which made it feel really relaxed. The owner, Joon, is incredibly kind and even came over to chat with us, which made the experience feel extra welcoming. We ordered the tteokgalbi set (served with rice and salad) and the rose sujebi. The tteokgalbi was delicious -- the meat was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and paired so well with the fresh rice. The rose sujebi was super flavorful, and the sujebi itself had a really satisfying chewy texture, almost like rice cakes. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time now. At the time of writing, it's rated 5/5 stars on Yelp, and it always seemed like there had to be something special about this place to earn that kind of rating... ...and oh boy, this place is definitely special. Everything we ordered was unique, came in a big portion, and was very, very tasty. Here's a quick overview of what we got: Hongdae meatball sandwich - MUST TRY I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, and this one definitely fits the bill. My friends and I have a debate about whether the bread or the filling is the most important part of making a sandwich "good" (I'm firmly in the camp that bread wins all), but that debate is irrelevant here because everything in this sandwich is SO delicious. The sourdough bread, the slaw, and the definitely-homemade meatball (more like a meat patty) all come together to make one of the best things I've eaten recently. If I had to nitpick, my only gripe is that it's messy and could probably use a skewer or toothpick to keep it all together -- otherwise, I'm 100% getting this again, and you should too. Spicy pork kimchi tofu - feeds you, your family, and everyone who lives on your street This thing is massive. It almost looks like an entire block of tofu was battered and deep-fried, then topped with a literal mound of spicy pork and kimchi. Honestly, when I got this I thought it would be more about looks than taste -- but man, was I wrong. Woowa is open late, so I could totally see this being a great dish to share with three friends over beer or soju. Ramyeon risotto - goodness gracious I was chatting with the owner and learned that his culinary background is in Italian cuisine, which he studied in Korea. I would have never guessed based on the Yelp photos, which focus primarily on the sandwiches -- but a big part of the menu leans into Korean-Italian fusion. If the risotto is any indication of what the other Italian dishes are like, every single one of them is sure to be excellent. It's a pretty simple dish, but it's executed so well: mild spiciness from the ramyeon, richness from the butter and cream, all soaked into a really great base of rice. I'm still thinking about this dish. Truffle fries - the kind of good fries that go with anything You know how fries can sometimes be soggy and a little undersalted, but you're going to eat them anyway because they're potatoes? These are not that at all: light, crispy, well-seasoned, and they go down easy. I could see myself eating a bowl of these alongside literally anything else on the menu. If I had to gripe about a couple of things: the interior is very dark and the music plays pretty loud. Honestly, that vibe is kind of nice for late-night eats, but when I'm having lunch around 1pm, it feels a little strange to be sitting in the dark -- especially on a sunny day. The other thing is that the menu is almost too overwhelming. I wanted to try everything, but the sheer number of options made it hard to choose. If you find yourself in the same position, just order the Hongdae meatball sandwich and a side of fries. If you like it, come back and try one of the Italian dishes. It was seriously that good. Looking for a late night spot for dinner with great food, this unassuming spot surprised us. We arrived after 10 pm. Owner chef greeted us & introduced us to The Top Ten list -- a must! Korean food with an Italian twist or vice versa-- it was ALL GOOD! Music in the background very relaxing-- jazzy, soft speak-easy vibe. Every dish came out piping hot with care & seasoned to perfection. A little taste of 'Korean grandma' with a touch of Italian flavors-- true fusion. The seafood pancake was crispy & full of goodies. The clams with Korean rice cakes (Korean "gnocchi") was outstanding, full of garlicky goodness--a real gem. It got better & better with each dish to follow. Pork belly was crunchy & full of flavor. This is a hidden gem in Gardena serving really great food. Very polished Korean fusion dishes, and you can tell they put a lot of heart into everything they make. If some of the dishes sound a little weird at first, try them before you judge them. Highly recommend the pork belly -- you don't fully realize the quality until you take a bite and immediately know this is some really good meat. The flavor is spot on, and it goes perfectly with beer. Rose paste sujebi: very good. The rose flavor is creamy without being overwhelming at all. The texture is perfect -- soft with a really nice chew. The salami on top worked surprisingly well. It could be a tiny bit salty for some people, but overall I really enjoyed it. Kimchi jeon/pancake: crispy on the top layer and soft in the middle. Great kimchi flavor with a really perfect balance overall. Soy garlic chicken: this is not the traditional heavily coated sauce style, which I actually liked. The quality of the chicken itself is very good, and the lighter sauce lets that stand out more. Perfect beer food. Also recommend trying the Krush beer. Expect around a 30-minute wait for now since the place is getting popular, but I could see it getting faster later once things settle down a bit. read more

Portion sizes are good and a group of 4 of us were able to share 4 dishes family-style to give us a chance to try a good variety. We ordered off the Top 10 menu and enjoyed each dish. Was excited to try out this new pub like Korean restaurant in Gardena! We got their pork belly, tteok galbi, and garlic parm French fries. Everything was pretty decent... the fries were nothing really special. The galbi had good flavor to it, the pork belly though was disappointing. We saw him make the food and usually when you serve it in the stone pot, the food should be hot but it was not. Not too sure how the food was not warm at all. All the foods would have been better if served hot. There were only two tables when we dined in so we were taken care of well. Kind of a pricy place for the food but Overall place was okay read more
