I came here for a friend's birthday on a weekday, and they were able to accommodate a large party very very easily. Everything was also delicious, reasonably priced, and came out so fast! We got the bossam, kimchi fried rice, chicken wings, kimchi pancake, chicken feet, and sausage and rice cake skewers. Seeing that this spot 4.6 stars on Yelp made the impression that it was an enjoyable restaurant but unfortunately, it did not live up to the rating. Came in a party of 3 on a Friday night and ordered the deep fried dumplings and the cheese tteokbokki. From looking at the menu, the food was on the pricier side so our expectations were high. The food did not meet our expectations. The cheese tteokbokki sauce was more on the liquid side than creamy and the fried dumplings did not stand out. Our waiter was attentive and quick to take our order but we had to wait a long while for a waiter to be available for us to ask for the check. One of few restaurants in the South Bay open late. 88 Pocha is a mid-sized shop with BIG flavors next to small businesses. The restaurant itself is casual, laid back. The few times I've been, it's been on the dimmer side - but that's probably because I've visited late at night when it's not as busy. Food is solid, I've yet to have a bad dish here. My personal favorites include: fish cake soup, kimchi cheese fried rice, soy garlic chicken. Beer selection is decent too, they've got one of my favorites - Terra Service is quick and super attentive. Waiters are always happy to answer questions about the menu and if you need to verify certain portion/sizes. Hubbers' flight was arriving later than scheduled (no thanks to Southwest Airlines' track record of delayed flights) which means dinner will have to be late night eats. As I drive out of LAX, Hubbers did some Yelp search and said, "88 Pocha...?!" In a heartbeat, I told him we should try it. "I've had them bookmarked for awhile, let's go?" I love the wall of bottles as decor. (It caught my eye immediately soon as we came in, other than the blue frog up front, of course.) It's a clever way to repurpose them and they did it without making the place look like a frat house. I also appreciate the chop sticks and spoons all ready for you on the table. SOY GARLIC SAUCE WINGS: The sauce is the absolute center of the wings' flavor profile! I've had my share of this same sauce on wings, but this here is exceptional! SEAFOOD CREAM PASTA: I was in the mood for pasta, so I went for this. I'll be happy to report it was made to order because it was delivered off-the-pan HOT!!! I went into a slight disappointment when I noticed it was a bit too saucy for my taste, but that immediately went away soon as I took a taste/sip of it. The flavor is deep and well put together! The pasta was cooked to an almost-perfect al dente and they were generous with the amount of seafood they included here: shrimp, mussels, squid, clams, scallops. I ate this almost tsukemen style. It was also a lot for one person, this can be easily shared by two people. SPICY PORK BULGOGI: Hubbers' choice for main. I hesitated to try it because I wasn't sure how spicy it was. He said it wasn't bad, that I may be able to handle it. So I took a bite... then another... and a third... and I had to stop because I didn't wanna end up nicking most of his food (even if I was already full from my own dish!) Delicious! I would say in comparison to places in Ktown, 88 Pocha's dishes are smaller and more expensive. Food is ok and hits the spot, but isn't amazing. They do have a good assortment of options with all the yummy classics. For 3 people, we ordered the Robboki, kimchi fried rice, and rose pasta. Of the 3 my least favorite was the pasta, but the other 2 were solid. I don't think I'll be frequenting 88 Pocha, but will come by when the cravings hit and Ktown is just too far. read more
