I'm craving some empanadas...but can't go back to this place. Last time I was there, the young male behind the counter asked me if I wanted a receipt. I said no....so he proceeded to charge me a different amount. I saw him key in $12.00 instead of my amount...it was $11.something. I am very happy I stopped in for some empanadas, chile con carne and the ham, cheese, and jalapeño were winners. . They were served piping hot and with a smile from the woman at the counter. Off to the side was their chimi and salsa bar. I immediately went for the chimi and spicy salsa verde, because spicy is the way to go. I sat down and took a bite from my ham and cheese empanada and was very please with the stuffed ingredients. Every single bite had filling. And paired with the sauces, I couldn't decide which one I wanted, so I cut the empanada in half and dipped accordingly to each sauce. The chimi was definitely tangy and soaked in the right amount of herbs and spices. The salsa verde was spicy but not too much that it took away from the enjoyment of the flavors. The chile con carne was just as delicious, and again packed with meat. Flavorful and moist. The crusts were flaky, chewy, and tasty, without the overwhelming oily base. Most of the empanadas I have tried from other places are made to look big and plump, but they are very stingy on the filling. These empanadas are not stingy at all. I've been to this place 3 times. The first time I ordered one cheese & spinach empanada and nothing went wrong, it was overpriced but delicious. Second time I went I ordered 4 empanadas, they charged me for 5 and gave me 5. Two were what I actually ordered the other 3 were just randoms. Also, I asked the lady which were what and she looked at me like I was stupid for not knowing. I don't have empanada X-ray vision. I need to know what's what. I guess they don't even know since they screwed up my order. The last time I went we waited 20 minutes and hadn't gotten our order. Finally, I went and asked about it. They said it would be right up. Then, at that point they realized my order was not in their system so they added it. Took another 10-15 minutes gave me my order and didn't ever even say "sorry you had to wait so long." So point of my story is...this places customer service sucks and their only good empanada-from the 6 flavors I've tried-is the cheese & spinach. Also, they are blatantly over priced.
