Aug 10. I got the Chicken & Tempura bowel. It was good. It can with 1 shrimp, 1 broccoli, and 1 orange circular vegetable. I can't determine what it is. I original was going to give this restaurant 4 stars because they put raisins and apples in the potato salad. I was expecting regular potato salad as I have had at every other Japanese restaurant. I didn't like it. Aug. 14 I ordered the Wow Bento (8 piece California roll, 2 shrimp tempura, 3 vegetable tempura). After finishing of one shrimp tempura I noticed the black line in the tail so I checked the other one and it wasn't cleaned (deveined). I didn't notice it the first time I ordered but I prefer my shrimp poop-free. Other than the shrimp and potato said, the food is decent. I wanted to give this a 4 star for great customer service but the price did it for me. 9.25 seemed a bit high but still manageable for my sashimi rice plate. Found this place near jewelry district for a quick and cheap lunch. The sashimi rice seems the be the way to go here for $9.40 for decent amounts of fish to salad. I got the seafood combo and the reason there's only five pieces is because the roll is HUGE. Like giant big. However the seafood platter was super greasy and the tempura where very thin pieces of sweet potatoes covered in batter so it wasn't lightly fried or had any veggies in it. I was hesitant to walk in here but I decided to try something new as I eat the same things in the jewelry district everyday. I was very surprised at the freshness of the food! I ordered the udon and the tempura was so yummy and fresh, also make sure to get the Korean spicy pickle side dish! So yummy :) the rolls are great and also fresh and clean. Read a lot of reviews giving this place good reviews for cheap food. This restaurant is hidden between many jewelry shops on S. Hill St. in Downtown LA. Perfect walking distance from my office, my coworker and I decided to give this place a try during our lunch break today. The restaurant wasn't completely empty, but wasn't completely full either. It's pretty worn down and definitely not the nicest place to have a meal. The lady (the owner I assume) didn't seem very happy with her job. She had a emotionless face expression while taking my order and really didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I asked her a couple questions and she just seemed really annoyed. She didn't smile at least once. I ended up ordered the sashimi salad for almost $11 including tax. The amount of sashimi that come with the salad definitely wasn't enough compared to the amount of lettuce that it came with. My coworker ordered a bento for around $8. Hers was probably more worth it, but it was basically just a simple deep-fried roll with some veggies. I don't think this place is worth it. It's easy to walk past wow bento without giving it a second look. It's got a cheesy sign, minimal storefront, and a next door neighbor with nearly the exact same name. The sushi itself is definitely worthwhile. Nice and fresh and a few steps above grocery store quality for about the same cost. I'm having the spicy tuna roll and the spicy tatami roll and they are both totally good. Total cost: 12 bucks. I can't give four or five stars in good conscience because the place is a little bit of a dive. But hey, it's a good value if you're not trying to have a swanky meal. Wow Bento & Roll, you only satisfy my fishy urges for a moment and then I start thinking about a sit-down Japanese restaurant, it is then when I want the real deal. Don't get me wrong, I have tried most of their salads, (salmon skin, chicken, sashimi, and spicy tuna) rolls (baked salmon, spicy tuna, crunch, unagi, etc) and none has ever disappointed my taste buds (and tummy). I had the worse experience eating out in DTLA for LUNCH in a LONG TIME. I called in to make my order at 11am to tell them I'll be going in the afternoon. I kept changing my order, so the Mrs. said to call back because she was busy. I called 20 minutes later and she said why I haven't picked up my chicken salad. Uh...I ordered something? I said that I wouldn't be able to pick it up until past 2pm, that's why I called. She said, well, it's been sitting on the counter and that I CAN PICK IT UP whenever it suits me, because the FOOD HAS BEEN MADE 5 MINUTES AFTER THE PHONE CALL. 5 hours of food sitting on the counter in non-refrigerated air next to sushi shows me as a loyal customer so much tender, love, and CARE. I just had to pay her and picked around the limp salad because the avocado was freaking BLACK. Disgusting. SHE'S A TERRIBLE OWNER AND THUS NO ONE SHOULD SUPPORT THIS PLACE. It's baically 3 pieces of tempura (one carrot, one huge broccoli, and a huge shrimp) Then its accompanied by a spicy teriyaki glazed chicken, which was actually pretty decent! I work down the street so when I don't want to go too far for sushi I come here, and it's not too expensive. There food is not that bad and it's better than some sushi joints at the mall. Couple of things that I dislike about the place is that it's on the shady side of town. Watch out for the bums begging for money, and also the outside looks like it's never been cleaned. The inside of the restaurant looks like a flashback from the 70s. But appearance aside the food is ok for lunch. But if you're looking for great sushi, you might as well take the drive or the walk to Little Tokyo it's better there. read more

Having just moved offices from Melrose to Downtown, I was excited to see a familiar face in my new neighborhood. They had just opened Wow Bento on Melrose a bit before I moved, but I was already quite familiar with their menu since that location had become a lunch staple so quickly. After having ordered twice from the downtown location, I'm not so sure we'll share the same relationship. Great, they deliver. But by the time the food arrives, the spicy tuna rolls have that awesome, fishy, old sushi taste. Each section of food in those styrofoam containers seems to have joined it's adjacent partner in a mixture of flavors that I'm not quite sure should exist. I don't want to blame them entirely, seeing as it's par for the course on delivery sushi, but I can't give them a million stars purely based on my love for their other location. I was impressed that they didn't skimp on ingredients. Presentation was typical fast food Japanese. All in all, I was wowed. It was tasty and satisfied my sushi craving. I think the quality of the food was so decent for a fast food joint that I might even try their sashimi next time. It wasn't crowded when I was there around 5pm (an hour before closing), but the patrons that were there were mostly Asian! I was reading some reviews and I just surprised how people complain for prices and amount of food, maybe they do not know about the dollar menu of Taco Bell I just don't share same thoughts. Actually I started coming here when I started my new job in the jewelry business (5 years ago) and the person whom trained me recommended me the place and ever since I always come back.
