    Poke
    Yuri J.

Delicious poke store by the sweetest wife and husband! The poke was fresh in quality and filed with toppings - seaweed salad, crab salad, masago, loads of tuna and salmon, rice and greens, and avocado! The store is easy to pass by, on a busy intersection of Echo Park..and would recommend for take out (even enjoying it at the park!) it's hard to find good quality poke bowls in LA, and Yami Yaki will be my new go-to!

super delicious i love cooked fresh and price is good ..... good service .......................

Food was soOOo good I had to give a review

I'm a FedEx driver and I stop by Yami Yaki for lunch whenever I'm in the area -- and it's always worth it. The food is fresh, tasty, and comes out quick, which is perfect when I'm on a tight schedule. The owners, Young and Eddie, are super friendly and down-to-earth. They always make me feel welcome, even when it's busy. You can tell they really care about their customers and the food they serve. Everything I've tried has been great -- the sushi is fresh, the teppanyaki is cooked just right, and the portions are generous for the price. It's honestly one of the few places where I can get quality food fast without feeling rushed. If you're in the area, definitely check out Yami Yaki. Great people, great food, and a chill spot to grab lunch or dinner. Highly recommend!

This spot is such an unassuming hidden gem on the corner of a busy intersection. It's a small, family-owned business with really flavorful food. The style is similar to Mongolian BBQ--you pick your ingredients, they cook it up with sauce, and serve it over rice so the portions are generous and satisfying. The owners were incredibly kind and attentive, making the experience feel warm and genuine. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Run by the cutest and nicest couple ever!!!! Yami Yaki is every unsuspecting since it's on a busy corner of Alvarado and sunset and can get quite a lot of foot & car traffic, but don't be fooled. They are serving up delicious meals - my favorite is the poke bowl! It's stacked with so many yummy items and the fish is great. You can eat inside or I personally recommend getting takeout and cozying up with your poke bowl at home.

This is a small place without a beautiful interior, but the sushi itself is quite tasty and filling.

WOW this place is a hidden gem! Build your own teppayaki. Chef cooks right in front of you. Its a very super cute little spot. The owners are very sweet and super nice. Price is fair and reasonable. I also love the fact that the teriyaki sauce, ponzu sauce and spicy mayo (for poke bowl) are alll HOMEMADE. I enjoyed it 10/10. Definitely coming back.

What a cute spot!! the curb appeal can be a little off-putting but it was delicious. clearly a small family-run joint but the food was incredibly fresh and the woman serving us was so kind. such a yummy dinner and with a parking lot right in front, i highly recommend checking it out! I got the salmon poke bowl and will definitely come back for it. My boyfriend built his own plate for the teriyaki grill. They price those by weight. Pretty fair pricing, would recommend!

Amazing sushi! I loved everything I got including the eel hand roll, salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and veggie roll!

Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to what we remembered. Being given plastic utensils while dining in was surprising, especially at this price point. The service and food were just okay, and the "miso soup" was actually plain chicken broth, which was disappointing and unexpected. Overall, it didn't feel like the same experience we used to enjoy. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism, as we'd love to see the quality return to what it once was.

The pea soup especially surprised me in the best way possible. Such a unique flavor and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. The only thing I didn't enjoy food-wise was the salad because it was way too sour for my taste. Unfortunately, the service and staff experience really dragged the night down. Everyone was very nice, but the staff seemed extremely disorganized, confused, and honestly untrained. They tried to double charge our bill, and after I pointed it out, they removed the duplicate charge but somehow still kept the extra taxes from the duplicate bill on there. When I flagged it again, they acted like they were doing me a favor by removing it "just this once," when I was literally just pointing out a math error. Why would I pay taxes on a charge that was removed? The servers also kept forgetting things seconds after asking us. One asked how I wanted my steak cooked, I said medium well, and moments later came back asking if I wanted it rare. My friend said she wanted steak, and the server responded with "So you wanted the cheeseburger?" It honestly felt chaotic the entire night. That said, the food itself was genuinely impressive and very different from your standard teppanyaki experience. If they can improve the staffing and organization, this place could easily become a standout spot worth returning to.

Once the whole party was seated & our order was taken, we received our delicious ginger salad and miso soup quickly. When our chef arrived he was ready to put on a show! He was so fun, engaging and very genuine. All of the food was amazing. I got the filet mignon steak w/ fried rice and my husband gets the sumo steak. The filet mignon is definitely worth it but if you prefer more meat, the sumo steak is the way to go. The drinks are affordable and compared to other teppanyaki places, the food is affordable and absolutely worth it. They also offer a happy hour in the dining room only - does not include the teppanyaki grill area. Truly one of our favorite places!!

3.5/5 Stars - Nice Experience, But Some Service and Timing Issues…read more We visited Tabi-Ji Teppanyaki for my husband's birthday and had an overall decent experience, though there were a few things that would make us think twice before returning. We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. As for the food: * Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5): Fresh, good quality fish, and a generous portion. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.
