This is our go-to place for sushi. We used to go to Noble Fish in Clawson, which always has good food, but the wait at that place is outrageous. We would order right when they opened for dinner and it would be a 45 minute wait for our food. So, on to Wow Sushi. Wow Sushi is a fitting name for this place because the food is outstanding-it might even be better than Noble Fish. And it is usually only a 15 minute wait for our food. We usually get a takeout order of the dragon roll, rock n roll, Troy roll, futomaki roll, and the dynamite roll. The sushi is always fresh and delicious and the service is great. The soups and lunch selections are the best tasting Japanese Food I've had out of all the restaurants. And trust me I have tried them all. The prices are the most reasonable, similar to the best Japanese restaurants in New York. There are delightful and delicious vegetarian options. Wow sushi quickly became a favorite for the bf and me because he always wants nigiri, and I have this love for chicken teriyaki bento boxes that I can't explain. This is our happy compromise :). The nigiri here is good and reasonably priced. Dinner bento boxes come with (i think) miso soup, salad, grilled chicken over some veggies, a generous portion of tempura (that includes 2 shrimps!!), a California roll, and 3 pieces of nigiri. The lunch bento box comes without the nigiri. The only con I can think of is that the bento boxes don't come with rice, but I just order an extra bowl to eat. Yes, if you are a fan of heavily ladened, over sauced maki rolls, where you can't taste the sushi, then this is an awesome place for you (and those people) to go. Please stay away from Noble Fish so us sushiholics that enjoy the taste of fish can get a table. The place was sterile and they had bought those pre-formed Japanese hospital trays to separate your food for you, but since I'm not five, I enjoy a more authentic experience. The beauty of Noble Fish is that the restaurant is in the back of an authentic Japanese grocery store, they distribute the sushi fish for all the other restaurants, and they make great fresh, awesome tasting sushi. I broke my arm recently, so I have been eating a lot of Japanese takeout lately. Call me prideful but I cannot sit in a Japanese restaurant and eat sushi with a fork! I tried chopsticks with my cast and it's a no-go. Wow Sushi has quality sushi with pretty reasonable pricing. They have good staple sushi options and a couple semi-fancy ones for those who may be uncomfortable with my normal octopus nigiri. They don't have any of the super crazy Americanized rolls, which I find respectful. I do appreciate that they don't use crab salad in their rolls, but lump krab instead-that shows attention to detail. In addition, from a takeout standpoint they maintained their presentation even with takeout and provided soy sauce in a saucer instead of those little packets(which was nice). Couple additional suggestions: Try their rock n' roll, it has spicy sauce on the top and it super yummy. My hubby and I are big fans of sashimi, so I suggest the chirashi, which is sashimi over sushi rice. Also tempura, a Japanese staple, is always a treat. Is a consistent, reasonably priced sushi joint somewhere near home too much to ask for? The answer was yes until Yelpers directed me to Wow on a strip of Rochester Road I nearly never travel. You win, reviewers, it's as good as you say. Yes, it's several miles away but proximity to Costco helps justify the travel. My addiction to well prepared nigiri and sushi rolls does the rest. Wow sits in a strip mall embodying the diverse, multi-ethnic background of Detroit -- sushi, southern BBQ, American cafe, Mediterranean, Indian, Thai, and sushi places stand shoulder to shoulder. It's rather fantastic, honestly. The restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside. Hanging scrolls separate each able into their own quasi-private niche, while the polished wooden bar accommodates 5-7 people. Friendly chefs are happy to chat while they prepare the rolls. At first pass, the menu carries all the standards: miso soup, gyoza appetizers, several bento box meals, sushi samplers, and soba/udon noodles in broth. Bright photographs illustrate each dish so what you see is what you get. An additional sushi menu covers the nigiri and rolls. Rolls range from simple options (avocado, cucumber, tuna) for under $5 and jazzed up fish (several California rolls variants with soy paper, spicy mayo, and more; spicy tuna) to their specialty rolls. I particularly like the Honour Roll for its spicy kick, the ones with shrimp tempura -- they come out crunchy, not soggy! -- and the unagi (eel) which is a moist barbequed confection, almost candied but not quite sweet, in a way I can't explain. Just try it. Even squeamish sushi newbies will probably really enjoy unagi -- just don't tell them what it is. All rolls come with refreshing cucumber salad in a light vinegar drizzle. Pour some over your rice for extra flavour if you like. Roll prices range from $3 to $13.95, the bulk being in the $4-7 range. Sashimi and nigiri are a bit higher, and I generally don't purchase them due to cost. Rolls are generously portioned without being the size of rice hubcaps, and you get more filling than sushi rice. A+ there! My beau and I opt for cucumber or avocado, one of the spicy fish, and two specialty rolls with miso and rice on the side. We can normally slip out for $25 and change, a fraction of the cost at Sakana, Inyo, Ronin or Little Tree that justifies the gas costs. Better still, the consistent service by our servers ensured our tea was refilled, food was delivered as soon as it was prepared, and all questions are asked. Our server helped us identify a roll we had on our first visit and couldn't remember the name of, and she did it all with a smile. WOW! is a real gem. I intend to become a regular. We stumbled upon this place at work when looking for a new lunch place and have not been anything but happy with each order. We have tried a couple of sushi places in Detroit and I have to say I haven't had a lot of good experiences. Wow Sushi is very reliably fresh. This is a no frills sushi joint, only 5 seats at the bar, and about 12 small tables. The fish and rolls are simple and tasty, the only thing that would make this place better is if they had a liquor license. They get their shipments in on Tuesdays and Thursdays so thats when you'll see me and my husband there! My boyfriend and I were really craving sushi (I missed a sushi lunch with a friend, since I had slept in, and it had been on my mind all day) so we decided to look into some sushi restaurants in the area. I saw the rating and reviews for Wow and figured we should check it out. Upon walking in, there were the menus readily available for us to pick up, and I would imagine, make sure they had the kinds of rolls someone would be looking for (if someone were to be specific about their food). We were met by a very kind, polite waiter who sat us almost immediately (not in a rushed sense, either, which is nice for once). Unfortunately I forgot his name, but our waiter was always politely excusing himself to our table to ask if we needed anything, if we needed a box, or if we needed the check, and even while picking up our used dishes, not the "HAYYYYY HOW YALL DOING OVER HERE" or the "THE FOOD IS GOOD, YEAH?!" or even "DOES EVERYTHING TASTE ALRIGHT?! OMG YOUR HAIR IS CUTE, I LOVE YOUR EARRINGS." It was never like that with our waiter; it's as if he understood what eating was all about. The atmosphere was comfortable and the restaurant was very clean. I ordered the miso soup, expecting the usual canned-soup taste...I was completely wrong. YOU CAN TASTE that they made the soup from scratch (if they didn't, they certainly knew how to make it taste that way) and the tofu was absolutely perfect. It was so robust and flavorful, that I may just go back ONLY for the soup, whenever I get the craving. My boyfriend ordered a sushi tray (consisting of tempora, salad, sashimi on rice, and a tuna sushi roll, I believe), and I ordered a salmon roll and calamari roll. I'm always doubtful about calamari; the way most places make it, anyway, it turns out too chewy and bland, and so I prepared myself and hoped for the best...after all, another critic had recommended it, so it had to be worth the doubt. The men behind the sushi bar could be heard chattering in Japanese, and their friendly, laughing conversations, which I could not understand, actually made the restaurant feel warm and welcome. Watching them prepare our food was interesting, and they were delicate with it (they wore gloves, too, for those of you who doubt the existence of an ethical preparation of raw food). Our main dishes were delivered within twenty minutes of ordering, if even that, despite it being a mildly busy Saturday evening (we arrived around 7:45, and left around 8:40, since we spent a lot of time groaning about how full we were). First, I'll say, that the dishes were works of art: the food was crafted beautifully and the dinnerware was unique (I'm so sorry I didn't take a picture, as I wasn't expecting to leave a review!). The salmon was so delicious!--and the calamari WAS NOT CHEWY!!! I was so happy to finally eat actual, real, fresh, not-chewy squid, that it was the moment I realized this restaurant deserved a warm review. We were extremely satisfied with the service we received and the quality of the food, especially since it's so well-priced (VERY affordable; our bill came to $35 with tip, which is definitely cheaper than we were expecting to pay). Wow was always a 4 start experience for me. Really great sushi at an even better price, however no alcohol which kind of sucks if you're in the mood and the atmosphere is a little lacking. However, it wasn't until this past weekend that I tried it out for lunch when I had a vacation day and I decided that it is worth every single star available. I was out finishing my Christmas shopping and decided that I wanted some sushi for lunch. I had remembered seeing that Wow has a pretty decent lunch menu, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm a big fan of a bento box, so I was excited to see so many choices. I went with one that I believe was called the sushi bento box. Quickly after ordering a small dish of cucumber salad and a bowl of miso soup were brought to me. Both were really great, and the cucumber salad was so refreshing even though I am not the biggest fan of cucumber. When the bento box arrived, I seriously had to wonder how they make any money off of it. I think it was $8-something for this box that had 4 pieces of nigiri (white tuna, tuna, salmon, and shrimp), salad, 2 pieces of a california roll, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, a few pieces of assorted vegetable tempura, a tiny seaweed salad, one of those little spicy deep fried balls (I don't know what they are, but if you've ever ordered a bento box, you know what I'm talking about), a few pieces of some kind of meat or beef (I didn't know what it was and forgot to ask), and something in the middle that looked like thinly cut onion, but I believe was some kind of fish in a red sauce. Don't forget, this also included the aforementioned soup and cucumber salad. Looking at this box, I would probably price it at at least $10, not including the soup and cucumber salad. Everything was delicious as well. There wasn't one thing in that bento box that I was bummed about. The nigiri was perfect and the ginger dressing on the salad was the best I've had in a while. There are only two things that made me sad the entire time I ate it- One, that I ate all of it and wanted more, and two, that I don't work anywhere near this place to make it a frequent lunch spot. I think the menu said that you can get lunch on Saturdays, and if that's true, I'm going to be there a lot more often. read more

In my opinion, this is the go to place for sushi on the eastside of Troy. My husband would tell you there are better places, but this is the one for me. The sushi and the service are consistent.
