My family and I enjoy coming here for the small town atmosphere. I actually appreciate how small and quaint it is, but I know that's not for everyone. The staff is always so sweet! The breakfast burrito is probably the most stand out item I have tried. I feel the kids menu is slightly overpriced. Wren's is our place to go to eat breakfast when headed to the bay area. Easy on and off access from the 80 freeway and the portions are huge. The homestyle potatoes with breakfast is my favorite. They are thinly sliced and fried so they are almost like a thick potato chip. Some pieces are crispy and crunchy and some are not. I had the special which is a grilled pork steak and it was very juicy and tender. The eggs were cooked to my liking and the sour dough toast was good. The staff are friendly, prompt and funny. I'm all about brunch, and I must say that this place is pretty good. It's quite small which makes it awkward waiting for a table, but the food is good regardless. Huge portions and good classic breakfast food. I had the country fried steak and eggs which was tasty. Side note: The kid sitting next to us listening to baby shark on repeat was SUPER ANNOYING. I really hate to do this especially coming out of this covid situation, but I have to be completely honest to save the people from eating nasty food. I will say the waitress was super friendly, but the food was absolutely disgusting. The scrambled eggs that I had taken a bite of had to spit out in a napkin because it tasted like they had been mixed in a bowl that was not completely washed in a nasty stinky sponge. The waffle tasted like raw batter. The coffee pot had so much build up it looked like tar. I truly believe that the coffee pot has never seen a scrubbing brush. I ordered from Wrens cafe this morning. Mind you I live literally right around the corner. No more than 2 minutes away. No one was ahead of my order. When the food got to my house, I met the dasher at the door. I promptly opened my order and EVERYTHING was stale, hard, and gross. I called the restaurant and had been told it was sitting and the employee I spoke with was extremely rude and hung up on me THREE times after giving me a huge attitude. I asked to speak to the manager and they refused. I asked again and they said they were a manager which was a lie because I finally got to speak to a manager. Haven't gotten great food from Wrens in a while and even worse service when I tried contacting and reaching out. Not my favorite hole in the wall anymore. Thumbs down. Small, CLEAN diner right off I-80. The food is simple and not greasy at all. It felt like I was over my grandmas house having a meal:) the thing that really impressed me was the blonde waitress who helped us. We both ordered the K&L special, biscuits and gravy, sausage patty and two eggs, cooked our way. The food is quintessential cafe food. The beef I have is with the kitchen. The server dropped my toast, and the cook, picked up the toast, and he must not have known it belonged to a counter customer. That MOFO, just dusted off the toast and put it on another plate. I ain't one to be a fussy customer, so I pushed the dirty @ss pieces aside. Now I have to wonder if the dude washes his hands. We found the quality and quantity does not match. Food appears to be cheap quality. Prices here are very high $$$. Coffee was poor again cheap quality like it is watered down not much coffee flavor. $2.99 a cup. A small orange juice is $4.99 Their special was $8.99 (notice the .99 on everything). Special was 1 small pancake, 1 egg 2 bacon which was chewy greasy. If you wanted a regular steak and eggs you are going to pay to the tune of $18.99. But coffee $3 bucks small orange juice $5 thats a little much! Service was good but appeared a little short handed. We were told this place was good but trying places all over I can't say it matches up certainly with pricing as well. If you add our two breakfast together per items that would be two eggs, two pancakes 4 bacon, 1 coffee, 1 orange Juice to tune of $30 bucks. Thats normally what you see on one plate minus 2 pieces of bacon. Mind you that if this was great quality food you might not mind paying high dollar. Not impressed! read more

Busy little hometown diner spot for breakfast. My husband & I have been here a few times for brunch and it's usually pretty busy. The waitresses are all very friendly and nice. I usually like getting an omelet or breakfast combo with eggs. Their potatoes are like thick slices of fried potatoes (similar to fries) so I really like that twist to your typical breakfast hash brown or home fries. If I'm feeling healthy, I'll swap out the fries for fruit. In the summer you can get fresh fruit otherwise it might be canned peaches/pears so be sure to ask ahead of time. My husband likes to get their burger with fries and finishes the whole thing. Their burger is pretty large so it must be a very tasty burger. Tip: Come early or you might have to wait a bit for a table during peak breakfast time. The wait has never really been too long. read more

But we were so delighted to find this little spot -- it really is a treasure on a vast highway of fast food and Denney's-like chains. It is easy to get there, but tricky to get back to eastbound I-80, because the signage sucs! Take the Davis Street exit from the freeway, and turn left, crossing the freeway, and turn right at Merchant where you'll see the sign. When you pull out, turn right out of the parking lot and make an immediate right, which takes you back across the freeway to get back en route. Prices were reasonable, and the food was yummy, with large portions. Tip: Ask for butter on the side if you're getting toast -- if you're like me, I don't like a big glob in the center and none spread to the edges. read more

The country fried steak was crispy and tender as you would expect. The whites were solid and the yolks soft on my over easy eggs just as you would expect. They serve slices of potatoes with the skins on, cooked crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They have the same choices of toast as you would expect at your average diner. They also offer biscuits and gravy as you might expect. They offer "man's" sized breakfast for those who require a little more food. Service is friendly, the place is clean, the food is decent, and it is about as interesting as my review. If you are looking for a good breakfast with nothing fancy on the way to San Francisco, I would recommend Wren's. read more

Prior to losing my parents a couple years ago we visited this place at least once a week for over 20 years.... they were always consistent ....good coffee and quality made food! Old school, for sure! They are comfortable with who they are and that's a pleasure to see! If Anchorage 5 in Sausalito had been open at 6:30 AM today, I might now be rhapsodizing about the fantastic corned-beef hash they make, but they open at 7:00! Today was the second time I have eaten breakfast at Wren's, and it was good, but not as good as the first time I tried it a few years ago. That was a 5-star visit, today's rates 4 stars. They seemed as though they were a little bit harrassed and understaffed, but they were very warm and friendly. However, it was pretty decent, and a far better choice than any chain restaurant breakfast! I had one of my favorite fat bastard breakfast choices - chicken-fried steak and eggs! The eggs were cooked correctly, the fried potatoes were good, and different from what one normally finds. They were sliced, as opposed to cubed or shredded a la hash browns. They were nice and crispy and fresh. The chicken-fried steak was a bit on the mushy side, and the gravy was not as sausage-packed as I typically like, but the flavor was pretty good. While not the most awesome breakfast place, it's worth a stop when looking for a hearty breakfast along I-80. I'll repeat in hopes of another 5-star breakfast! read more

The location is super easy to find, right off of Hwy 80, and the inside was clean with friendly staff. The BF ordered French Toast with a side of bacon. Neither was that impressive, the french toast is made with regular wheat bread so the slices are SUPER thin and the bacon was tough and greasy. I had the egg and sausage combo. It was fine, nothing special. The potatoes were very good and the only piping hot item on the plate. The coffee was refilled on a regular basis and the OJ came in a huge glass. Overall the breakfast was fine, nothing was terrible but we wouldn't go back. We are still on the hunt for a breakfast joint. read more

I've wondered about this place every time I drive by. I finally checked it out last Friday and found it to be a cute little place that serves only breakfast and lunch (they close at 2), except on Fridays when they serve prime rib and stay open until 7 or 8. I ordered a California chicken sandwich that had avocado, cheese and sour cream on buttered and toasted sourdough bread . It came with perfectly cut and cooked french fries. The sandwich itself was very good despite being kind of messy. They have a list of homemade desserts and we couldn't pass up sharing the amaretto cheesecake which had a perfect consistency and wonderful flavor. read more
