This was my go to place to take family and friends visiting Hawaii. The menu has changed and the good items are gone. I had lunch there and ordered the hamburger steak. It was tasteless pre-formed frozen patties that were tough and had little flavor. The sandwiches looked a little more promising. Location is beautiful. I always go for a walk behind the restaurant after I eat to see the fish along the shoreline. Maybe I'll try again before I give up on this place. But I will not order the hamburger steak again. This is my go to place for brunch on Sundays. Why? 1. It's near my church (Pearl Harbor Chapel) 2. Prices are reasonable. 3. I get to watch football on Sundays :) Overall, I like this place. It's definitely not fancy, but there is plenty of seating inside and outside on a lanai. If there is a nice breeze, it's nice to sit outside. But be warned, the birds will come at your plate if you leave it unattended. Customer service is okay. You place your order, are given a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. Condiments are self serve as is drinks. They have a worker who cleans the tables off but if you're nice and polite, you can bus your own tray/plates to the cart by the backdoor. :) Menu is pretty much your common breakfast fare until about 11 when I think you can do lunch or breakfast. I can't comment on lunch items, but breakfast ones are okay. Not blow your mind and make you come back every day...but good. read more

It's not too bad of a place. I've been here a few times out of convenience and they've always done a good job of serving quality food in a timely manner. The inside is pretty big and the outside is s scenic view of the ocean. The prices are reasonably good and the portions are perfect sizes. The price is right and they have a diverse menu. It's on post or base, depending on who you are, and obviously most of the patrons are in uniform. It's a good family environment also. I highly recommend their omelets and I also recommend more specifically their meat omelet. It's tasty and filling and what Americans love, especially with bacon. Sweaty PTs are gross, make sure you shower before you go in. Don't be the stinky people. read more

Wright Bros. Cafe & Grille is one of the closest lunch options to my office. I've dined there many times over several years. Almost every time I've had lunch there, I've ordered the Smoked Turkey Reuben. It's really good, and since it's made with turkey instead of corned beef, I can tell myself the lie that it's healthy. I still haven't worked out a believable lie about the delicious onion rings I get with it. I've strayed away from my trusty Reuben a few times but so far have returned every time. Today, I strayed again. I had the Oriental Chicken Salad. It could have been good, but they blew it. The bowl they served it in must have just come straight out of the dishwasher: It was so hot that it was uncomfortable to touch! Who serves salad in a heated bowl? I'm certain they didn't do this on purpose because one of fellow diners also ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad, and his plate was room temperature. However, you do not serve a salad in a hot bowl on purpose or otherwise. You just don't! Also, if I were to get it again, and I probably won't, I'd asked for the dressing on the side. It's a tasty dressing, but they really sop it on thick. My rating above is based on many "healthy" Smoked Turkey Reubens and Onion Rings, not today's salad debacle. Get yourself a Wright Bros. Cafe & Grille Smoked Turkey Reuben and put mustard on your Onion Rings. It's my theory that the mustard cancels out the fat. Shoots! My family loves Wright Bros Cafe. Pretty standard breakfast fare (think IHOP). Order and pay at the cash register and they give you a vibrating beeper thing to tell you when your food is ready. You go up to the counter and pick up the food yourself. Excellent location on the waterfront. Sit and enjoy watching the ships and submarines drive up and down the channel. I have no complaints. Stopped in for an early dinner with a friend who works on base. We both got cheeseburgers, which were big and decently priced for their size. The staff were all very friendly, and the aunty at the register was especially nice. What makes this place great, though, is the view. We sat on the patio outside and had an amazing view of the harbor as we chatted about life. There were maybe just two other groups who were around at the same time, so we didn't feel like we were rushed to get out or anything. This place is cafeteria style where you order your food at a counter, pay at a register, and then take your food to a free table. The food was good, not bad, not great, but still good for the price. You often pay at least $10 for a burger and fries at other places. Privileges of being on a military base. One of my only issues is that I had a hard time finding a rubbish can. When you order from the counter they give you a pager to tell you when your food is ready to pick up at the counter. They have a range of things to choose from. I thought long and hard about why this place was a 5 star place for me. I think it's a combination of a few things. 1. Location. On Hickam AFB, it's located on the waterline with a wonderful view if you eat outside on the porch area. Being only accessable to military folk or those that have base access, it makes this place more unique to those that can even come here. Easy to get to and parking isn't too bad. We stayed a whole 45 minutes and it was relaxing and nice. 2. Food. We came here for breakfast and let me tell you, my omelet was LEGIT. Often you go to IHOP or Denny's and find that you pay a lot for your omelet. My omelet was great and just as good as any of those places. 3. Price. My omelet was probably a fraction of the cost of an omelet at the above mentioned places. I guess it's great to be in the military for places like this and to save money on breakfast. Places for breakfast are getting more and more expensive!! All in all, I really like this place! I'm hoping to go back again sometime soon, but it might not be on the itinerary for this trip to Hawaii. Those of you that have access to Hickam have to try this place out! We often eat at Wright Brother's Cafe (a.k.a. Orville & Wilbur's, a.k.a. Orville's) for breakfast and lunch. It's located near the Officer's club on Hickam AFB, set on the very pretty Pearl Harbor channel waterfront. The menus are simple, with a variety of breakfast and lunch items as well as heathier choices for those who like that type of thing. As for me, I prefer the short-order grillled, buttered and deep-fried variety of which they serve up fresh. There are lots of tables and booths inside as well as some tables on their covered lanai area. The menus for the freshly prepared items are posted above the cashiers and are a little difficult to read because the print is so small, so don't feel weird standing there squinting because everyone has to do it. They also offer a hot-food line during lunch with a changing menu of stuff like roast beef, mashed potatoes, hot veggies etc. After placing your order, you'll receive a pager device that buzzes and flashes when your order is ready, so you can wait at your table and grab your drinks. The food is served on glassware, and the utensils, condiments and beverages, are all self-service. The customer service at the front of the house is not the best. Some of the women who work there almost appear irritated with customers and are not very friendly. Watch out for the lady who runs the hot food line during lunch, she's not a happy girl. As for the cooks, they seem to be happy and very friendly. It's too bad that they're in the kitchen. My personal fave is their Chinese Chicken Salad (it's huge) with a choice of grilled or breaded chicken. The dressing is yummy and the salad is topped with cruchy almonds and crispy won ton strips. Their pancakes are also really good, and equally huge. The outdoor dining area is really nice, and they've since added a cover. You may even see some huge ships or subs going by, which is pretty cool. Be prepeared to share your meal with the local bird population, they are quite confident little buggers. The indoor dining area is a bit noisy with the hustle and bustle of the open kitchen design, but overall, this place is a great place to grab a hot meal on-base, and a perfect place to have an informal working lunch or meeting. read more

If you have access to Hickam AFB (or whatever the new name is) this place is a well kept secret. We love it's breakfast, especially for the pancakes, lite and not "bready." It's a nice self-help kind of place where you help yourself to utensils, napkins, butter, syrup, drinks, etc. The "regular" breakfast meal is served with two large pancakes, two eggs, and at least two bacon, it's $5.50! And served on real plates, for those of you who can't stand paper plates at the other place. The kid's special is a super deal with two small pancakes, one egg, two bacon and a small drink for half the price of the regular breakfast! Probably more important than the food is we like to do two things when we eat here: 1. We like to sit outside in their newly renovated covered lanai and enjoy the breezes, blue water, and watch the ships/subs go by; and 2. Sit on the stone wall under the tree's shade and feed the fishes old bread. Sea life range from a giant school of akule, papio, stick fish, blue parrot fish, oio, pufferfish, barracuda, sunfish, unicorn fish and on rare days, red ringed eels, turtles, and an octopus. For some reason I'm the type of home cook who can make creme brulee and a souffle,but task me with making an omelet or eggs...its a disaster worthy of an episode of Food Network's Worst Cooks in America. The other morning dressed in my best "People of Walmart" attire, I traipsed over to Wright Bros Cafe & Grill to grab some breakfast to go to bring me back to life. Having never been here before, and hearing reviews ranging from greasy and disgusting to delicious, I wasn't really sure what to expect, I ordered the Western Omelet and added hash browns, and a coffee which was desperately needed (as so kindly noted by the cashier...don't worry no stars were removed for snide remarks on my not so pristine appearance) and dragged my disaster looking self home. All in all the meal was a-ok. The hash browns could use a little oomph, maybe some Waffle House "smother" style (dear lord, did I just say that?), but otherwise, not bad at all. Definitely easier to get to than having to fight the parking lot and seating issues at some other places when all you're going to do is go home and eat. read more

The number one attribute of this restaurant is the view! Be advised. They stop serving breakfast (the best meal there) at 10 am on the nose. We barely made it today, and some seemed a little grumpy about that. There is about a half hour break where no food gets served and then they start the lunch menu. Basically good breakfast food. This restaurant is open for lunch during the week, happy hour on wednesdays, and brunch on the weekends. It's counter service with two options, a hot food pick your own plate side, and a grilled side. The hot food line changes food everyday while the grilled side has a set menu of salads, wraps, sandwiches, and burgers. I personally have never ordered from the hot food line because the food is usually pretty unhealthy. They have some great choices for healthy salads and wraps. I love that they have so many choice regarding bread and wraps. For sides I've seen people order fruit, fries (regular or sweet potato) or chips. They give you a lot of food (especially the salads!) and they are very quick. Once you order they give you a pager that will go off then your food is ready. The location is beautiful, right on the water. You can watch the ships come in and out of the harbor while having your lunch. If you're on base and want a cheaper alternative to Sam Choy's, definitely check this place out! read more

So...this place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's awesome. Sometimes it fails big time. The biggest problem I have is that it's not usually clean feeling when I go in there. This go around we had the lanai reserved. We showed up...nothing was set up. There weren't enough chairs, the tablecloths were covered in gecko and bird poop. Not really professional, in my opinion. I was there for breakfast and ordered toast. After it came out of the toaster, the cook put butter or oil or something on it. I didn't ask for that, nor was it on the menu. I have no idea what the other reviewer is talking about. My family eats here almost once a week and they always serve piping hot food to order. The food is awesome and they have huge portions. Their kids meal is $2.99 and it's too much for my 3 year old. I love the breakfast panini. Yes it is order your food and sit down style much like the Olive Tree Cafe but that adds to the laid-back casual atmosphere. Sit outside and enjoy the view of the water. If you are lucky you'll get to see subs passing through and even an aircraft carrier! Kids love the water, the nearby playground and you can even feed tropical fish that lives in the canal. The food at Wright Bros is good, but mostly it is the location on Pearl Harbor that keeps me coming back. You get a spectacular view of the harbor and the leeward mountains from the back porch. I give breakfast three stars - standard diner fare you can get at Denny's - and the plate lunches at least four stars. Food is not good and service is poor. The wait staff allows food to be outside for too long which make the bird infestation very unsanitary outdoors. The birds were literally dropping food from above on to our plates and heads. I have tried this place 3 times and I'm sorry to say but it is a strike out. More concentration from good management could turn this place around. The location is perfect. Here are some free pointers. 1. Clean the entire place, inside and out, and keep it that way. 2. I go here on a regular basis last time was last Thursday. It's good food with great prices. Normally I get the grilled cheese and fries, grilled cheese is always great, but I wish they offered the same fries all the time they seems to change quite frequently. This last time I got a 1/2 Turkey sandwich with all veggie that they offer, I was pleased with it. The only item I've ever not been happy with is the Oriental Chicken Salad they put so much dressing on it, it was like I was swimming in it. This is a great place to have Brunch. The lines move quickly. Wait time is 10-15 minutes if they aren't Slammed with a huge crowd. There's always Plenty of parking. You can choose to eat indoor with the A/C and TV or outside on the lanai and watch an occasional Naval Ship or Sub with their Tug Boat escort on their way in or out of Pearl Harbor. Either way it's a very relaxed atmosphere either in door or outside on the Lanai. Noise level is low, even if there's a crowd. We usually go here every Sunday for breakfast on the water. There are some T.V.s inside if there is a game that I just can't miss, but other than that we usually find ourselves sitting outside. Keiki Meal ======== I believe this is under 4 bucks, and honestly it is enough for a 5-year old, no questions asked. My son loves it and never asks for more. Adult Menu ========= Large sign above with everything there is, and it is cheap! I would rate the quality similar to that of a Denny's or similar diner-style food. You pay at the register and get a buzzer to take with you to the table. In about 5-10 minutes, the buzzer goes off and "your table is ready, please return to the host for seating". Grab your food from the pass and you are on your way! Bottom Line ========= This is pretty average food, nothing to write home about, a solid 2 or 2.5 based on the food alone. The view is stellar and easily takes the rating up to a 3. I compared it to several of my 4 star reviews for breakfast, and based on the food, I just can't bump it. From the grill, I recommend the chicken-bacon-ranch croissant sandwich or the blackened chicken sandwich. Their salads are all big and very good as well. Prices are excellent for the food you're getting. If you order from the line, you won't be disappointed. Choice of two meats and what they serve is usually fresh and tasty. I've also eaten breakfast here once. The omelette I had was pretty good. The restaurant overlooks the entrance to Pearl Harbor, so you can occasionally see ships passing by. It's also next to the Missing Man Formation, and overall is a great place to have a relaxing meal at a good price. Service can be hit or miss. I love coming here to relax over lunch, but I swear some days they have their head up their ass. Like today, they seemed to have forgotten to bake the Lasagne. All the cheese inside was still shredded, not melted. And the usually-yummy cheesecake tasted like glue. (I guess it's old.) The host is a great guy, but most of the servers are often snotty.
