I have always thought very highly of their cakes, but I had a very bad experience for my birthday where this business decided to charge me full price and use my Groupon so I was charge double for an order. And they disputed my claim so now I am out both the money and the Groupon that I purchased. Terrible customer service. Mmm sweet sweet sugar induced coma. I woke up one morning with cravings for a sticky bun. The night before we had driven around the city trying to find a bakery open past 6pm and we ended up at Byerly's for some less than stellar cannoli. But before that, we had driven by Wuollet and as I pressed my face against the car window wishing the store was open I resolved myself to go again during store hours to get a sticky bun. And I did. If I had not been so set on getting a sticky bun I would probably have caved and bought a million other delicious muffins, cookies, and cupcakes they had. But I stuck to my guns! HOLY TOLEDO BATMAN! This place is insane good! and the round the corner bakery vibe just adds to the quality experience. We stopped by on Saturday morning around 9 and they still had plenty of goodies available. (Note they are open 7-5 daily, closed Sunday) We ordered 1 sugar glazed braided doughnut, 1 almond angel, 1 croissant, and 1 loaf of wild rice bread. (include an orange juice and coffee = total $14) The doughnut was light and airy and not overly sugary!!! the croissant was delicious with a flaky outside and airy light inside. the Almond Angel thing was crusty outside with toasted slivered almonds, inside it had an almond, butter, sugar mix filling and was about the size of a long-john doughnut. The service was snappy and you could tell the popularity by the constant flow of customers but it never got too crowded. I cant wait to try the princess torte that everyone talks about, and they sell it by the slice if you only want a taste. They even have a daily soup selection and a short list of sandwiches they offer. The coffee cakes are on my list of items to try also. It was a nice small town atmosphere and friendly service and the window seats are great for people watching; there is an interesting mix of customers. I live right down the street from this place and am constantly giving them second chances but their made-to-order cakes and prepared sweets selection just doesn't taste very good. It must be a matter of taste because other people seem to really enjoy their stuff. Sadly, I'll have to keep driving to get my morning donut at The Baker's Wife or walk around the corner for a cupcake at Sweet Retreat and totally enjoy my delicious caloric expenditure! My sister used to work here, so the staff knows me well and my GIGANTIC sweet tooth. The cakes are tasty with real butter used in the frosting (yes, I can tell when shortening is used), and are beautifully decorated. Lately I come here for their newest gluten-free pear almond tart, which is insanely good. Not a fan of their danishes or cheese crowns, but everything else here is delightful. read more

Oh my gosh. Almond Angel Puff; light fluffy pastry, sprinkled with sugar and toasted almonds with sweetened almond paste in the middle. Sticky buns are delicious too, along with ANYthing else we've had there. The coffee is really good, too. Highly recommend. read more

I recently ordered a 10' Fruit tart from Wuollett on short notice. I was told it would be ready within an hour. The cost was $37, typical Wuollet pricing, but their offerings are usually superb. I was terribly dissapointed by the result, considering the lofty price. There was not the usually diverse offerings of fruit; no bluberries or Kiwi, for example, mostly strawberries and pineapple, very haphazardly arranged as if in haste. In essence, it was some whipped cream over a tart crust with a smattering of fruit, FOR $37 !!! Very dissapointed and used to a much higher standard from them considering the price. On December 15th, I purchased 24 cupcakes. The cashier told me the credit card machine was down, she took all my card information, including security code from back of card. I used a total of $60 in Groupon Vouchers, on the bill for $74.40. I called as soon as I saw the charge on my credit card. They never returned my call or corrected the transaction. If you make any purchases from them I would check you credit card statement! I'm sure they are hoping to redeemed your Groupon vouchers & charge you the full amount. I've lived a few blocks from Wuollet for ~30 years. Great baking. But I am shocked and appalled by the prices I experienced today. $6.25 for a 1 pound loaf of bread? $3.95 for one small pastry? I want to support the quality, the neighborhood, etc - but I can't help feeling that Wuollet is taking advantage....Are the prices at the other locations the same? I have to say that Rustica has a better baguette, at half the price...And Rustica's $4.25 eclair (which is superb) is far less than Wuollet's $5.99 edition. read more

Wow. I have never stopped eating a cupcake because it was so awful before. How does this happen at a well known local bakery? When I worked for large corporation, a Wuollet souffle cake was THE standard for someone in the office with a birthday, never a question. And it was GOOD. I have driven by this Wuollet Bakery shop for years. AND the one on Hennepin in Minneapolis. I decided to stop into a store front and see what they have. It is very typical bakery faire - donuts, cookies, bread, cakes, garlic toast. I looked at their special menus - princess cake, Scandanavian specialties, wedding cake. I didn't see anything in the shop that was interesting, but I decided I'd get a devil's food cupcake with white buttercream (white, not vanilla) on top. I don't like much frosting, and true to trend, the amount of frosting almost doubled the size of the cupcake. So, I took off the frosting and just ate the cake. Well one bite of it. The texture was crumbly, not moist at all. The flavor was more the dusty, chalky taste of baker's cocoa, but somehow, without the chocolate flavor. It was TERRIBLE. It all went back in the bag, then into the trash. A cupcake! Something is very wrong here. Maybe they really only excel at cakes made with sponge, or maybe all of that fresh strawberry filling just covered for a big old mess, but I'm not going to bother with them again. I'm unsure if they've updated their site, but the website often reflect different prices than what they charge in store or over the phone. What started as a nostalgic return to my hometown bakery in Edina this morning (I currently live in Boston), quickly turned into an abysmal, horrible experience. I was looking to pick up a few things that I used to enjoy as a kid and encountered awful service at this bakery. It started with a 15 minutes wait despite the fact there was only one person in front of me with a small order. The worker acted like she had better places to be and didn't want to be helping people. When it was my turn, I asked for my items(which they didn't end up having), and the "worker's" attitude was so full of disdain, rude and snotty with her taking extra time to look me up and down to size me up. What happened to Minnesota nice???? I don't even encounter this type of behavior in the most upscale of Boston elite neighborhoods... Seems like she needs a serious reality check that she works in a bakery not Goldman Sachs, and should have a little more respect for the customers. I will never go out of my way when I am back in town to visit this formerly,much-loved bakery. Oh and I chose not to buy anything in the end since she was so rude, I just decided to leave. read more

I purchased a birthday cake for my grandson and a treat for on the way home. After watching them place a full tray of this delicous looking bar I had to have a treat for myself. On the way home I bit into the bar and OMG it was still frozen. FROZEN, what's up with that??? Later that evening I served the birthday cake and announced I bought it at Woullet. My grandson shoved his aside while my daughter said honey you love cake. I took a bite of mine and was so disappointed in yet another purchase from Woullet. Then my daughter and son-in-law said the cake was really dry and tasted like flour. None of us finished our cake and we threw the rest of it in the garbage. What a disappointment! read more

Ordered a birthday cake by phone with maybe less than specific directions other than occasion and names and make it nice and I was very shocked when I picked it up and saw a very dismal and mostly undecorated cake. I had to go with a pre-made one and wait for names to be put on as what they had ready simply would not be acceptable. I thought the person that served me was sort of embarrassed as he showed it to me. Bought a few other items which were frankly stale. Normally this bakery has been fine but this was not a good experience. If you order a cake get very specific with what you want. I saw another cake go out that frankly did not look much better than my original. They know how to decorate cakes but must be some shortcuts being taken. read more

I love Wuollet's cakes! However the customer service is horrible. This is the second time I've ordered a cake and it was terrible service both times! I asked simple questions like what flavors do you have?? or how can the baker decorate the cake for this theme??.... since YOUR the expert! I knew what size cake I wanted but needed mild assistance with the other choices and it was like pulling teeth both times!! MAJOR props to Wuollet's for coming through in a pinch. After whatever it is that happened at BitterSweet Bakery in Eagan (I've rated only a 1 star...we'll see if the review stands), I did not have the 170 cupcakes I needed to pick up for a pair of brides wedding on October 10th....and while they were unwilling to help me...Wuollet's had no such issues. I called Wuollets with only 2 hours to go until the wedding, ...and not only did they make the cupcakes with time to spare...they called me back right after placing the order to get the wedding colors so they could incorporate them into the cupcakes. They gave us a variety of flavors and the decorations were wonderful! We were able to deliver before ANY of the guests noticed. Pricey, but so worth the fix to BitterSweet's mistake. read more

We went to Woullet this morning for doughnuts and coffee with our two children. The service was really terrible. There was no one in line, yet both clerks stared at us awkwardly, didn't say hello and then failed to make any eye contact at all once we'd made our selections and were ready to order. In fact, one clerk said to the other, "I'm taking a break" and did nothing while the other one, seemingly hungover and obviously annoyed at the idea of speaking with us reluctantly bagged our order. Why someone "takes a break" behind the counter (instead of, possibly, a break room) is beyond me. Also, the bakery was quite dirty. We needed to wipe down a table (ourselves... while one sales clerk sulked and the other enjoyed her "break") before sitting in it and one chair had a generous serving of frosting on it--nice. My son dropped his doughnut on the floor at one point, so I went up to get a new one where the clerk smilelessly replaced it, for $1.85. Not the end of the world, but typically places will cut you a break on that kind of thing if a toddler or little one drops their ice cream, cookie, whatever. Finally, the food was just okay and actually, that's a generous assessment. You can get a far better product for less money a number of other places. We will not be back. read more

The bakery might appear as a typical shop, but once you try any item you'll wonder how you can ever go back to big box baked goods. We were shopping for unique cake amd called ahead on Saturday morning to be sure they had something, and the woman who answered the phone was very pleasant as eas the person in the shop when we arrived. We tried a fresh bread sample that was delicious. We ended up with a unique almomd raspberry torte that had layers of white cake bavarian buttercreme filling with raspberry jam and an almond paste fosting similar to fondant. There were salted sliced almonds around tge edge that offset the sweetness of the cake. I was expecting a custom cake but they offered as we were done picking it out to add any personalization. They did this quickly and pleasantly. We also ordered a raised chocolate donut to go. I would like to go back and try one of the many fancy cupcakes. read more
