Maybe I caught them on an off day but top-to-bottom, my food was mediocre bordering on flat-out bad. Food: I had ribs, sweet potatoes, black eyed peas and cornbread. 90% sure the ribs were boiled which is a forgivable faux pas if everything else is on point. It wasn't. There were smoky notes but the texture of the ribs was uneven. There was no crispiness on the outside and much of the meat was chewy and inconsistent. They also serve it lukewarm with the option of microwaving to hot; never seen that before. The sides were just bad. The black eyed peas tasted like nothing, the sweat potatoes were meh and had a canned feel. I don't expect amazing sides from bbq joints but even by my low standards, these were awful. Cornbread was decent and the only thing I finished. Ambiance: This place looks so awesomely bad (described as shacktastic by another Yelper) I figured it must have amazing food. It's on a pretty shady corner on the edge of Kirkwood but it definitely doesn't feel like Kirkwood. Looks like there are nice places to sit in an adjacent building but it wasn't open during a weekday evening. Let me say first impressions due speak values but please please please do not go off of your gut instincts to turn around. This is not a visually appealing spot. It's dirty and dingy on the outside but as soon as you see that Smoke stack you know it's real. The prices are fair and the amount is good, rib tips and two sides for 12.00. All I get is 5 stars?! Wyatts is DA BOMB!! I've heard so many great things about the place that I had to try it for myself...like 5 or 6 times!! This is the BEST soul food place EVUH. I guarantee you won't be disappointed...I've had the neck bones, rice with gravy, collards, white beans, yams, mac and cheese, the turkey wings, pork ribs, beef ribs and rib tips---everything was downright delish. Being a southern belle who grew up on weekend barbecues that consisted of freshly slaughtered meat, homemade sausages, and the variety of trimmings that only 15+ women could concoct (grannies, aunts, cousins, and mothers), I have been in search of the perfect commercial barbecue ever since. The building is a bit rundown and unassuming and the hand written sign on the side threatening against loitering led me to expect down home barbecue goodness. There is no ambiance and plan to carryout, because I would not suggest using the screened in patio next to the neighborhood car detailer to enjoy your food. The building is essentially a slightly renovated old house in which the kitchen has grown to encompass all but a tiny, cramped entryway. There is one way in and one way out. The barbecue was divine. It was smokey and tender, with a sauce that was not too overpowering.For sides we chose greens, , (not recommended, they were much to watery for my tastes), mac and cheese (also nothing to write home about, good for commercial, but if you are expecting that homemade richness you will be disappointed), and peach cobbler (let's just say, don't bother. Wyatt's is quite a unique place. I feel like it deserves slightly more than the 3 stars everyone has given it so far, so I'm gonna pull up the average a little bit with a 4. As has been mentioned, this place is quite the dive. I actually stumbled upon it when I attempted to eat at Ann's Snack Bar (which of course had a 298345 hour wait). The only thing I saw around when looking for a place to eat was a Checkers and this trailer at the back of a parking area that said it had barbeque. "Hmm," I thought, "this place is probably either really awful or really awesome..." Luckily I decided to take the plunge and go for it... and it was pretty delicious. I got the barbeque pork, string beans, candy yams and a slice of sweet potato pie (yummm sweet potato pie). They were all very good, and I really liked the bbq sauce they used. I also saw them making the fried chicken as I was waiting for my order and it looked pretty darn good. I think the whole southern-kitchen-crammed-into-a-trailer deal makes the place kind of unique and cool, and the woman who worked the counter was the nicest woman you've ever met too. If you have hours on yelp or google then that is what you should adhere to and not have an attitude when you have people waiting to be served . I've been coming here for years and years and will continue to get my ribs from Wyatt's. Even without sauce they are good. BBQ shack. There is seating on a porch connect s to the outside of a nearby building. Mac and Cheese was good. I'll pass on the greens. I did have great BBQ ribs and the sauce was excellent. I was almost tempted on the pig ear sandwich but having to travel way up north again I did not want to risk a surprise bathroom stop in some gas station. The sweet potato cobbler was pretty good here too. As a grab and go this place is really good. I would eat here again if I was in the neighborhood, I might even drive here, but then again it is catty corner to Ann's Snack shop and the Ghetto Burger would be calling. read more

The wait was long and ridiculous but the staff was very nice, the food was subpar. I loved the tenderness of the meat and the smoky flavor but it needs more seasoning. I must be desensitized. Correction, living in the hood the last 8 years of my life has caused me to change my perspective on many things...like for instance gunshots at night (now I can't sleep without them) or perhaps a screeching car or being called names as I drive down the street. These things make me feel at home now. I love my hood and more importantly I love the people that share my hood with me. Dive joints mean the peeps running the joint likely are more focused on the food than the decor. You'll notice a trend in my other reviews - I could care less about the look of the place if you've caused my taste buds to dance in inappropriate ways in my mouth. Hey, a girl has to get it somewhere. With that said, and remembering that I'm writing a review on Wyatt's, I'm giving a high five and a shout out for the quality of the BBQ and veggies produced by this place. Yeah - it's a rickety shack. But it's what is in the shack that matters. The vinegary and mustardy barbeque sauce sings to me every time I consume the pulled pork or chicken breast. The turnip greens are heavenly and don't even get me started on the mac and cheese. This is the place for BBQ in Atlanta. Yeah, you might take it to go, but mmm...it's worth it. Heck, while you're there purchase a set of 800 count Egyptian cotton sheets sold on the corner for $35 bucks or better yet get your car washed. Here in Atlanta and the yelp reviews peeked my interest to try Wyatt's. I will be blunt and to the point. DO NOT waste your time on trying to find it, which is hard enough. I will not even expand on the lack of service here, and go straight to the food. Arrived finally at 830pm and they were out of most everything. Had the ribs which were so chewy I am still picking meat out of my teeth. Sauce was bland no spices, food cooled so they warmed it up in microwave. Really.???? Collard greens as well as candy yams bland and tasteless. I could have overlooked the down right shabby condition of the place if the food had been better. Ambiance, friendliness, banana pudding and Lima beans are all really worthy of five star ratings. The ambiance is just what other Yelpers have already mentioned, a shack in the hood on the less than scenic road known as THE Cynthia B. McKinney Parkway. Everyone is incredibly friendly here. If I were to have a banana pudding cook off, they would win. The Lima beans are cooked with their fairshare of fatty pig parts that make these some of the best Lima's to be found. The BBQ? It's ok. I want to give 4 stars but its just okay. Yesterday was my first visit. When you pull up, don't be afraid of the zombies. They won't bother you. And by zombies i mean crackwhore shuffling skeletons meandering in the lot. When you go inside you may be shocked at how little space is actually available. The menu is taped to the counter and there is everything from pork bbq sandwiches to pig ears. You get 4 pounds of food with each meal the best is the guy serving the food. He's old (probably 40 but he seems 80) and he looks a bit frail but i bet he could kick by boyfriend's ass. But he's sooooo nice and funny. He kept bullying me in a funny way to get more food: "you're gonna be hungry in a few minutes when you realize you didn;t get enough and i ain;t gonna be open no mo'. You know we're closed tomorrow so you best get some leftover! They were out of banana pudding and the guy in line behind me (a lakers fan in all purple and even sporting a big gold sparkly lakers earring) said the banana pudding was the best he ever had. We got our food togo because there is no other way. I pulled my back carrying the load of 2 dinners. When we got home we dug in. Its pretty good but not really much different from other bbq. I like it as much as daddy D's. I think the sauce is a touch strong for me but the mac n cheese was AWESOME! oh, the bbq sandwich is a bad idea. i had to eat it with a fork because it got too mushy. The Place is a dump, which is often a good indicator of high quality BBQ - But Wyatt's meat is a bit dry, and their sauce is way too salty and vinegary. They do have good cornbread and butter beans, and the best Peach Cobbler I've ever had at a restaurant, but in my humble opinion - we go to a BBQ joint for the pig, not the other stuff. The portions are huge and I could only eat the rib dinner last night but omg, it was delicious. The meat was super tended an the sauce was amazing. The sides were very good too. I scored the last banana pudding: helloooooooo, my tummy did flips. Today I'm eating the turkey and I stopped midway to write this... That's how good the stuff is. I really enjoyed my food... 4 pork ribs with two generous sides with cornbread for $12... What a Great deal! The food was really good. Mac n cheese yummy and baked beans so flavorful. My ribs were tender and nice n meaty. Bbq sauce is my favorite flavor... Not too much of anything...just the right spice and thickness. Corn bread is a little dry but the flavor is rich and yummy. I got the Pork Rib plate to go and I sat at my desk and ate it I thought I don't think I have ever been any happier than I am right now. The ribs were SO DELICIOUS. The meat was tender but crisp in places and the sauce was light and flavorful. The black eye peas and collared greens accompanied the ribs well. Food was fantastic!!!! However, we were only given a few meats to choose from rather than the entire menu which was a bummer. What we ended up choosing was still reallyyyyy good though! Macaroni and cheese is a must, I also had potato salad which was great! My boyfriend had collards, which he has strong opinions about ( he's a chef) and he loved it more than any BBQ place we've had in a while! Definitely will be returning for food. Over the years the service has declined. The attitude of the old guy whom I think is Wyatt is very nasty. If you go in at certain times of day they are likely to be out of certain items and be nasty when you ask about it. The last 2 times I went they had nothing going left. If that's the case then why not turn the sign off close and go home. Then their menu is selective on certain days. The sides vary day to day. For as long as I've lived in town I've seen Wyatt's behind the makeshift carwash and clothing for sale off the side of a truck. This place is as sketchy as you can possibly imagine it. After mustering up the courage, I made my way in there. Fast forward 8 years and my family has been there 50 times. I love to smoke ribs but making tons of sides can take forever. We'll grab large portions of the mac cheese, greens, butter beans (these are ridiculous), and black eyed peas. About $2 each these are enough to feed 6 and make everybody happy. I've tried the fried chicken. You can feel your arteries hardening but they are very tasty.
