    Salmon and yellowtail rolls

Very casual and friendly vibe- fast service! The food was reasonably priced and very fresh tasting! I tried a cucumber wrapped roll, salmon roll and yellow tail roll with an order of Salmon sashimi- all very tasty! Between 4-7 pm they have a happy hour menu with deals on sale and beer and apps/sushi.

So good and the service was amazing. Great price. This place was a hidden Gem, definition of a hole in the wall that you wouldn't expect, but definitely worth a try.

Very good sushi spot in Phoenix! Had a pleasant time here with staff and the food. I ordered unagi nigiri, Sad Boy roll, hamachi nigiri, and tobiko. Well priced given its sushi, this place gives so much fish per nigiri. Especially the unagi, I was legitimately surprised by how much is topped over the rice. Can barely bite in one piece. The real winner is the Sad Boy, with its tangy and tingly flavor, it brings a unique palette to the sushi scene. I'd go back just for it alone, but of course the portion size per piece is another win. If you go, beware the parking is really limited...I would guess around 4 spaces at storefront. But I went right when they opened at 12, so I had no trouble. I spent $50

Sushi in the desert! The outside of the building is extremely unassuming, but it is very clean and cozy inside. Service is fast, and the fish is fresh and good quality. The lunch special is a really good deal at $11 for two rolls or $14 for three. As an added bonus, they always offer extra eel sauce and spicy mayo when they bring your food to you.

I ordered the Dragon Ball roll I asked for it with no eel .. however they didn't include any sauces and was missing the spicy mayo on top. the roll itself like this was extremely basic and disappointing

Wow. As other reviews mentioned, close eyes when you enter the building Don't be fooled with what you get for your $$. No word is necessary. I am coming back soon!

Don't judge a book by its cover! Pleasantly surprised all around. From the outside looks of this place you'd never guess that inside was killing it on sushi. The owner/chef said he has been here for a little over a year. The service which was just him was great and friendly as he chatted us up. Pricing was great and the quality was high. The basic spicy tuna was the best I have had. Lollipop wrap roll could be smaller for one bite but that's just my preference. Overall will be back to get the lunch time specials and happy hour after work!

(Spoiler alert) Miguel the owner chef of this hole in the wall vibe establishment is getting some of the freshest fish in the city. The fish is flown in and goes to the fish market right around the corner from his restaurant; where he personally goes to pick out the fish. (Many restaurants have it delivered to them). We sat at the counter and had a lovely chat w him. Great selection of Asian beers!! Nice unfiltered sake. The fish all tasted very clean and fresh. Tasty ginger. Amazing spicy garlic edamame. The whole staff is super nice. I love the unassuming nature of the establishment. Not fancy. Just good food good drinks and good people. (His whole fam even came in to eat bc they come every Saturday- I LOVE THAT) Totally stoked to have this in south Phoenix. We will be back, thank you!

Xami Sushi is a wonderful addition to the south Phoenix dining scene. I picked up lunch and was pleased with everything, from the friendly service to the excellent food. Both the exterior and the interior are simple and unassuming; the interior has a small number of seats at the sushi bar plus a good number of tables in the adjoining room. The sushi chef and the server were very welcoming when I came to pick up my order. I ordered the Baja Roll, the Tootsie Roll and the spicy garlic edamame. The Tootsie Roll is a pretty common roll that you can find at most sushi restaurants, and it was well-executed here. The Baja Roll was beautifully crafted and delicious--the yellowtail was fresh and the roll had a delicate but impressive flavor. But even though I loved the sushi, my favorite part of the meal was the edamame, which was perfectly garlicky and just spicy enough to provide heat without being punishing. I wouldn't have thought I could ever be this excited about edamame, but I was. All in all, ordering from Xami Sushi was a great experience and I will definitely do so again.

Miguel the owner/sushi lover! Who brought sushi to the neighborhood he grew up in.

Totally Blown Away!!! Wasn't sure if it was the South Phoenix dive location that lowered my expectations, but this spot totally blew me away. The sushi was excellent, and Miguel--the chef--was an amazing host. I was heading back to the office and looking for a lunch stop when Xami came up in my search. Once I saw the location, I had to triple-check the reviews because they just didn't seem to match the location. That curiosity is what made me give it a shot--and I'm so glad I did. Definitely worth the trip, and I'll be going back for sure. I had the Sad Boy roll and the yellowtail sashimi--both were fresh and flavorful. Just remember what your parents always said: never judge a book by its cover. Huge props to Miguel for bringing his love of sushi to the neighborhood he grew up in! I am sure lots of people told him not to.

I tried Xami for lunch the other week after seeing their newly opened signs! The munch specials were fantastically priced and the staff was very helpful with my questions. My favorite roll was the spicy tuna which tasted fresh and had the perfect kick to it! All rolls tasted good and fresh.

Customer service ...chef's kiss ! Sky is super friendly and personable! The owner offered me a sample while I waited for my food to be cooked! It's an open kitchen so you can see everything going on! It was a 17 drive for me the Golden California roll was still hot and the baked lobster was warm! Both were super yummy. I will definitely be back! The Golden California Roll 4 Stars The Baked Lobster 5 Stars

Came here after I landed and it was so delicious. The owner/chef was super sweet and even gave us an extra dish to try. All of our rolls tasted super fresh and the crispy tuna was exactly wheat j e been searching for. It's pretty hard to find good quality sushi in phoenix and this place was pretty high up there! It's one of those spots where it's truly a hidden gem.

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

We were nearby for a show, and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening for a late dinner with some friends. They have a good happy hour menu, and my friends ordered off there, but I was craving sushi so I got the nigiri omakase. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed, definitely hard to go wrong there. The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. The bathroom was kind of scary personally, super dark and a little messy, so I decided to wait till I got home. Overall, a solid experience, and definitely a good choice if I am in the area.

Unfortunately, I visited today for the first time in a while and left feeling really disappointed, it's changed, and not for the better. I always order the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen (no meat, replace with egg, extra egg, add corn and cabbage). I was surprised to be told they no longer offer cabbage, which was one of my favorite additions. The eggs were also different. They used to be served whole, and I loved slicing into them to reveal that beautiful golden yolk. This time they arrived already sliced, and once the broth was added, the yolks started to cook. I was also given a side of arugula, which honestly has no place in a ramen bowl. It felt very out of place. There were also pickled carrots, which I ended up removing, not for me. The broth was noticeably greasier than before, which was another letdown. I immediately texted my best friend (the one who originally introduced me to this place) and she shared the same thoughts. She even mentioned telling her server, "Don't mess with a good thing," and that really sums it up. I'm truly sad to say this experience left me very disappointed, and I may have to start looking for a new ramen spot. WHHHHHHYYYYYYY

Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.

I always really enjoy the ability to order 4 or 5 different things just to try something new. On this evening we started with the Beef Tartar, the Asian BBQ pork belly, and the Japanese sweet potato. All 3 were delicious and easily able to be shared between 3 people. We transitioned into ordering the prime New York Strip and the Maitake mushroom to share. However, the gentleman at the door who held himself with the pride of an owner talked us into staying for a glass of wine and flan. Well, I then talked myself into some Japanese sweet potatoes. Ok. So, I'm going to tell you these are some of the best little snacks you can try. They had a good amount of salt with a chili oil crunch on top. That chili crunch is the things dreams are made of! The flan, as one of the bar tenders, Taylor, described, was more pot de creme than flan. With a honey ice cream and dehydrated milk crunch on top.
