I'd really be interested to see how these businesses justify opening so many bakeries on 8th avenue. Seriously, there's about one every block. But hey, when they're as good as Xin Fa, there's really no reason to complain. First thing you'll notice is that Xin Fa is more crowded than a lot of the other ones, and that's for good reason - their bread and pastries are more unique and are freshly made for the most part. Also a reason why they cost more than other bakeries in the area. My favorite buns were probably the coconut custard and the salty sesame ones. Of course, like other bakeries, they also sell cakes and drinks, though I had neither. Definitely worth stopping by to pick up some breakfast or for an afternoon snack. read more

This has to be one of the best bakery I've eaten in Brooklyn. Every time I go there there's always a small line, but hey are quick, you pick what you want, and they grab it with their tongs and bag it for you. Their breads and buns are very fresh and sometimes even warm, that's when you know they just came out the oven. My favorite here are sesame ball and egg custards, must try. I might be biased because I love anything with sesame. But hey you can try it out for yourself. They have different variety of breads and bun that I don't see in other bakeries around here. I have never felt the need to write a review or talk bad about another person's business but I have been very frustrated with this location for a while now. For the past 2 week or so I've been trying to take my girlfriend to this location to get the Portuguese egg tarts that I fell in love with years ago. I called to try to reserve some but the lady over the phone said that they no longer do that and I would have to come to the store to buy them, not a problem at all. I have now gone to the store atleast 4 times in the past 2 weeks and on every occasion I have left empty handed because they "sold out". One time there was even a tray of egg tarts on the side and the lady still refused to sell even one to me because someone "reserved them" even though they no longer allow this... Guys I'm trying to buy egg tarts not yeezys. I don't want to camp out just to buy some, so please do something about this. read more

I come here pretty often since I have a handful of bakery cards. I recently ordered a box of their egg tart and coconut tart to share at a BBQ and they all loved it. The egg tart isn't like your typical egg tart, I think it's called something else but I forgot. The crust is thinner than usual and there's a lot of tart! The bread varies. It's really a hit or miss on timing for the exact type of bread you want. They just keep popping out different types. You can also ask one of the workers if they have a specific type of bread in the back and they will go check. It's of course crowded, as any Chinese bakery. Their line system sucks though; you line along the bread options so you order as you're on the line. They also have a bunch of desserts as you enter; I feel like they should have put the bread there. The pineapple filled breads go fast! The baked pork buns are rarely displayed as well as the hot dog buns. I'm absolutely addicted to Chinese bakery bread so I could go on and on about it. The prices are very reasonable and majority of the time it's still warm. I never sat in because it's usually full and I don't think any Chinese bakery on 8th ave has bathrooms. read more

I wouldn't lie that their Portuguese tarts are really good. & that's why's there's 2 stars. Customer service took away points. Every time I call to ask if they have it, at times they would tell me you can't order anymore you have to come and get it. "If we have it when you come we have it. If we don't then we don't." And when I call again a week later they allow people to Order. It's only probably because no one has the time to waste To go there knowing there is none left for you. Especially when you tell them to hold and you're on the way they still say no. Without people placing orders. They are literally losing business. It makes no sense when they keep changing it from can't place orders to being able to order again. So I called and placed an order for 6. They said 1:30. I got there at 1:27 expecting to leave with it but no. It's not done and I have to wait an extra 15 minutes. If it's not gonna be done by the given time do not tell me 1:30. They literally gave me an attitude saying "you want it then wait if you don't want it then don't wait". What kind of customer service is that? There were also 2 boxes of 6 that was there and was ordered by someone else. But they haven't bought it. So I asked if I can pay and get it first since they're late. They said no. 10 minutes later another women came out and asked them why is there a box of 6 here and asked me if I wanted the box of 6. I was like no. Best egg tarts I've had in nyc! It was so good and so fresh. Not too sugary and you can really taste the eggs. It was baked super fresh. I first came around 2:30 on a Sunday and it was all sold out. This bakery has got to be the cleanest on 8th avenue. Even though it might be a bit more pricier than Dragon Bay Bakery, their ambiance and their baked goods are upgrades compared to their competition. As soon as you walk into the bakery, there are more high end pastries like chocolate cakes and accurate English translations of the pastries you are drooling in front of. Toward the back end of the bakery, there are ample choices of packaged cookies, breads, and other baked goods. The selection is very unique and inventive. It takes a spin on the typical Chinese baked goods and makes it a bit better. For example, since another yelp user recommended the Bird's Nest bun, I had to pick one up for myself. It is covered with scallions, squid, and a slice of egg on top. Inside, there was a pleasant dollop of mayonnaise inside with a soft and chewy bread surrounding the middle. I read about the coveted Portuguese egg tart but never made the effort to try it due to the alleged long line. But I walked passed the store the other day and told my friend about the crave. I didn't want one since I had a really big lunch already and had no appetite for dessert. She dragged me in and fortunately they had them on display. We were so lucky that day and grabbed the last one for 1.25. I am so glad we went in since it was one of the best Portuguese egg tarts I've had. Great Chinese bakery at suspiciously reasonable prices. The tables are rarely wiped down. There's also no public toilets. One might wait for freshly made egg tarts, but they are so worth it. This place was a gem! The eggtarts were super fresh, right out of the oven. The dough was thin, crispy, and the best texture to balance the sweetness and creaminess of the eggtart. Most of the staff does not speak english and the ones that do speak very little. Someone in line helped me translate my order. But if you are nice to them they will take care of you! I did call ahead to order the day before, however i still had to wait about half an hour to get my order from the batch that was on the oven at the time. It looks like they bake them in a cyclical fashion to make sure they are fresh. So you will probably have to wait, but no worries. Love the Japanese Almond Cake, Cheese Cake, the Pecan Tart was eeehhhhhhhh but very delicious with a lot of pecans for sure and not that make your teeth scream with sugar flavor. My friend and I were excited to try the tiramisu so we both ordered it because it looked good. But when we tried it, it tasted sour instead of sweet! It kinda tasted like spoil milk and left a bad flavor and gross impression in our mouth. We barely finished it and threw it away. Also the texture of the tiramisu is suppose to taste softer and not breadlike. I guess we need to go to a real Italian bakery food a good one... On the other hand, the matcha cheesecake bread was tasty! It was freshly brought out so the texture was soft. Review for the black sugar pearl milk tea 黑糖珍珠奶茶。Cold for $3.75 is not a bad price at all. It's pretty much the average price of a regular pearl milk tea. The milk tea itself is slightly watered down with a hint of black sugar taste. The bubbles, on the other hand, is very hard in texture and reminds me of bubbles left overnight i.e. not fresh. Ironically, most of my enjoyment in this drink is from chewing the bubbles because even though the texture is tough they still have the black sugar taste. read more

My boyfriend took me here today because he said it was the best in the area. When I first stepped in I realized that it was slightly more expensive than other bakeries in the area.
