I was pleasantly surprised to find authentic Indian cuisine in Mobile. We decided to have an early dinner here on our way to Florida. The restaurant is housed in a shopping strip, but that didn't deter me from wanting to try them out. There was two other parties here so we had free range to sit wherever we wished. The younger gentleman was out server and he was very friendly. The older lady also came by several times to check in on us. I ordered the Nepalese Veg Thali and my company ordered the Chicken Vindaloo. It took a while or our food to come out and it was quite chilly inside. When the lady brought our food out I really appreciated the presentation she gave me in great detail about what each dish was on my platter and I liked the attention to detail she gave. They brought out regular white Naan but after we mentioned we ordered whole wheat they brought us a fresh basket out. The bread was not buttered or anything so it was a little dry, but still served the purpose. I noticed the Vindaloo was in a kind of small bowl. My platter was presented beautifully and it was my first time having Nepalese food. My chicken curry was good. It came with mustard greens those weren't nothing to write home about. I also didn't care for one of the dishes because it had a fermented veggie in it that threw me off. The other veggie dish was okay. It also came with some sort of sweet coconut pudding. For restaurant with 2 locations, I have found the food to be consistent regardless of where we dined. Not tonight...we got takeout in Mobile. It was like they couldn't get the order right or the recipes correct. The only dish that was close to what we have ordered in the past ...was the chicken Mo Mo but it had no sauce. If you like vegan you will love the Kat Kitchen. Don't come here often enough as my some in my family do not appreciate the seasonings. When I do, prefer coming with a large group so we can share many different dishes. The food always taste freshly prepared. If you don't like a lot of seasoning order mild. I had heard wonderful things about it from many friends and figured it was a perfect time to try it. The restaurant is very quaint inside and authentically decorated. The staff is very polite and attentive. I must admit the food was great. It was full of flavor and the meat was very moist. I had the chicken tikka masala and I definitely finished every last bite. If you've never had Indian/Nepalese food before, the weekend buffet is a great place to start. This is the first place I ever had Chicken Tikka Masala, and I've never had any nearly as good since. When ordering off the menu, one order of Tikka Masala is enought to split between two people with a side of naan. This was my first time trying this place and it was good; however, the portions were a bit small. I ordered chana masala and my friend got the curry chicken, both of our foods were served in bowls about the size of my hand (I have small hands too). The lady that served us gave us ONE bowl of basmati rice when both our dishes were meant to be eaten with rice and when asked, she said that we could both "share." For some reason i wasn't expecting vegetable rice fried with butter and I didn't expect her to know what vegan was because of the reaction to my questions about the noodles. They offered to make another plate but I declined, didn't have time to wait. I just had samosa and vegetable dumplings, which were good. I still paid for rice by the way. Did I mention we were the only people at the restaurant, so they were not busy and could try to understand why I am asking is there dairy or eggs in noodles?
