I have been wanting to try this place for soooo long and I'm so glad I finally did. Worth every hype!!! Got the yala latte and pistachio croissant and they were both delicious. I got half pumps of brown sugar syrup and I thought it was the perfect amount of sweetness for the latte. Can't wait to try their fig matcha!! There's one row of seating inside and some outside but not a huge area. Definitely more of a to go place than hanging out. My partner and I have always loved Yala, which is why this experience was so disappointing. We stopped by today (4/14 around 12:15 PM), and the café was completely empty. We were the only customers there for about 15 minutes. The person taking our order (glasses) was warm, welcoming, and kind, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the barista preparing the drinks (wearing a bandana/scarf) was extremely rude. After our drinks were called, she refused to acknowledge us when we approached the counter. Both my partner and I said thank you, and she completely ignored us and turned away. She did not have the same energy to the guests who looked more silver lake appropriate as she politely greeted them and smiled. I was about to ask for water, but the interaction felt so dismissive that I was too nervous to ask or go back and order a pastry. What stood out even more was that her coworker made an effort to smile and acknowledge us, which made the contrast in service very clear. This experience honestly left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. When a space is empty and there's still no basic acknowledgment, it doesn't feel great to support that kind of environment. I ordered the vanilla fig matcha made with Archives of Us matcha. It was good and the fig added a nice touch, even though it was premade rather than whisked fresh. Premade matcha can have a stigma, but the flavor was still strong and enjoyable. My friend got the creme brulee drink and it was very sweet in the best way possible. I also tried the sand hot chocolate which tasted great but felt more like a dessert, something you would want after eating something salty. probably one of the best cafes drinkwise that ive been to in the area! i always hope not to suffer from fake hype or the la tax, but i really liked yala. we had a small line of maybe 6 in front of us and a few people waiting, but we were checked out and served fairly fast. i believe our fig matcha and brulee latte were roughly $15, which isnt too bad in my opinion. i feel like cali tends to have small drink sizes so i was happy with the sizing. overall my boyfriends matcha is one of the better ones ive tried. very very potent, pretty grassy, but did not have clumps, excess sweetener, or excess milk. im unsure if i could label it as a fig matcha without knowing so from the name, but the little seeds at the bottom were surprisingly fine with the drink. my latte was super addicting, i love brulee and they did it justice, no notes there. there are about two or three benches outside with small bench style seating inside. i think three or four groups of two could fit there, as there were no additional stools to face the other side. its decorated a bit minimally but still really cute. they also sell beans which i might grab next time! read more

before i begin with my explanation on the three stars review, i want to make it clear that the coffee was absolutely delicious and if it hadn't been for the questionable service, i would recommend. with that being said, i did visit early this sunday morning at 8:15am and found no line, just two other patrons waiting for their orders. i then ordered the signature yala latte with oat milk and was amazed at the craftsmanship and quality of taste. so it pains me to admit that i would loooove to support a local coffee shop as a silverlake resident myself, but the service was a little uncomfortable and left me feeling singled out for not looking/dressing a specific way. for clarification, i was in my running attire versus the usual hip and trendy style that many silverlake transplants sport (which i can't even lie, is pretty cool); so even after i was dismissed after placing my order, i did not expect my drink to be left at the handoff bar without being called out, versus the other two orders that were called out by name and personally handed to. i waited a minute or two as to see if i wasn't about to take another person's order but the baristas then began to walk to the back and left my order sitting there. as a barista myself, i understand not being able to make every interaction personal, but this is unfortunately a trend i've noticed as a woman of color in the silverlake area. read more

Suggestion: There is only one menu to look at and it's right where you order...so it makes the line go a lot slower because people show up at the front and have to look over the menu for the very first time. why not have menus on a stand near the front door? Issue: The place looks like that awful room you almost rented when you were 20. It is so uncomfortable. There are little silver units that stand in for tables...they look like garbage cans. There is very little space to sit..and the seating that is there is quite uncomfortable. There are almost no decorations anywhere...other than an odd, random silver bike that takes up space. Is it part of a theme? Not sure. Is there a theme? Not sure. I'll grab a coffee to go but I'd never bring a friend there to hang out and catch up over a coffee. read more

Don't waste your money on the sand coffee here. They literally put it in the sand for two seconds and then pour the whole thing.
