I like this place a lot. I've probably eaten there 20 times in two years. That said, it's not phenomenal. It's good-to-very-good, which I swear I don't mean as a backhanded compliment. This is our favorite local sushi and Asian spot. It's a little hidden gem located in seven fields and is always great service. The waiters are always attentive especially Verry. I am actually writing this review in anticipation of the table behind us. The other customer is being extremely rude and blaming her issues on her "rash" and her impatience is quite impressive. She told the waiter that "I need a few minutes" after ordering her partners meal quite some time before. When the waiter said ok and walked away. Immediately she was upset because she wanted to order right then even though she told the waiter she needed time. She then got upset over her own issues. Was on the move looking for a good sushi joint and boy was i happy to stumble across this little gem. We got a total of 4 rolls one being the shogun roll. Everything was amazing from the food to the service. Exquisite dishes and outstanding wait time. We were sat and had our orders taken within 2 minutes. the food took only about 10 minute wait which is much desirable when you're on the move. Yelp! This is the first time you've failed me :( the place was clean and the staff was nice but the food was yuck... like I think it was bad. The miso had long strips of seaweed ... not easy bite size pieces. The shumai was clearly a frozen product because the center was COLD - only took one bite. The sushi rolls had a funky taste... the roe on top looked foamy. Took one of each roll... enough for me. We left half the rolls there. My stomach immediately felt queasy! We were passing through the area and found this restaurant on Yelp. What a great find! The sushi was so fresh and flavorful! There was a great variety of sushi rolls and other offerings which made it hard to choose but our Shrek roll and Crazy Dynamite roll were both fantastic. First off, let me qualify what I'm about to say by noting that I lived in Japan for 9 years and that my wife is Japanese & an amazing cook, so I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Japanese food. I hope I don't come off like an asshole, but I'm just trying to be honest. We recently moved to the Pittsburgh area from from Northern Kentucky (which has a nice offering of Japanese restaurants thanks to the large Toyota presence). Stopped in here 2 weeks ago with the fam as we were still unpacking and in the mood for Japanese (which 9 times out of 10 doesn't necessarily include sushi). I ordered sukiyaki, my wife ordered tekkadon & we got tempura soba for our daughter. We also got an order of gyoza to share. While the tekkadon was fair and the gyoza was ok, they went kinda crazy with the soy sauce & shirataki (yam noodles) on the sukiyaki to the point that it was basically this massive bowl of horribly salty noodles with a few bits of tough beef & a smidge of tofu. For some reason they also threw in some not quite cooked broccoli (for color, I guess). I can also accept the lack of a raw egg (I sure as hell wouldn't want to eat a raw, store bought egg in the US), but when I asked for a bowl of rice on the side, you could tell right away that they didn't waste any extra money buying rice. As in pretty nasty cheap Chinese rice that almost tasted like it hadn't been washed. The tempura soba was equally disappointing. Similar to the sukiyaki, it came in a huge bowl, but the merits of the dish pretty much stopped there. the soup (mentsuyu) was pretty much watery & tasteless with broccoli once again added, I'm guessing, for color. Instead of the light golden color that tempura should be, it was so overcooked that it was brown & almost burnt. You could tell that the oil defo had some age to it and the shrimp had more breading than actual meat. Our server was nice enough, however you could tell that she probably wanted to be doing something else. Our bill with tip came to nearly $65. Since eating here, I've heard from some of the Japanese guys I work with that Yama Sushi is pretty much the best option for Japanese food in the area, which makes me want to stay away from Saga, Ichiban, etc. all that much more. If you're not that picky about Japanese food and consider Chinese, Korean, Japanese & Thai to pretty much all be the same, then Yama Sushi may well be for you. We sure won't be going back though and wouldn't really recommend anybody else go there either. read more

The sushi is pretty good, portions are fair, and the restaurant is very clean and comfortable. Good appetizers too. The price is nothing to get excited about but isn't excessive. Service is also average since seemingly no one can understand you... but then again, isn't that kind of what you want in an ethnic restaurant? My brother-in-law and sister-in-law love Yama Sushi, so last week my husband and I decided to meet them for a Sushi date. We had reservations for 7:00pm and were promptly seated when my husband and I arrived a little early-- we waited for 20 minutes before anyone came over to our table to take our drink order. I was annoyed, but I let it go because I figured it was due to the fact that our entire party was not there yet. However, as our meal went on, the service never got any better-- we were there for almost 2.5 hours! We all ordered various sushi rolls for dinner. The 2 rolls I ordered were the Spice Girl Roll and the Rainbow roll-- they were okay at best. If I ever returned, I would probably try something else. read more

Wife and I stopped in when looking for something new to try in Cranberry as the restaurant selection in this area is surprisingly small in terms of good food. We had sushi and hibachi dinners and found both items to be fresh, perfectly cooked and reasonable in price for the quality received. The sushi was made to order and very well prepared using fresh ingredients. The Hibachi dinners are served on a dinner plate at your table - not at a Hibachi grill with a show - the steak orders were cooked exactly as ordered and the meat was high quality, tender and had a lot of great flavor. Compared to the chain Hibachi places where quantity not quality seems to be the norm, with gristle filled meat and overcooked vegetables, Yama Sushi's Hibachi was a very pleasant surprise. read more
