I really enjoy this restaurant! The sushi rolls are not my all time favorite, but the spicy tuna sandwich is awesome! i have not found this kind of sushi appetizer anywhere else, and since it is on the happy hour menu it is a great price for a larger portion. I think I like it better than regular spicy tuna rolls. The Udon soup was also really good. Prices are decent, with the happy hour menu being your best deal. Yanako holds their own to the top sushi places in Philadelphia. The open ceilings around the sushi bar area is inviting yet intimate. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Great little place on one of the main drags in Manayunk, definitely family friendly and relaxed. We got the sushi for two platter, which had a little kick due to tiny bits of wasabi hidden throughout (loved that). Bring a good bottle of white wine and enjoy! read more

I have great memories at this restaurant. It was love at first sight. I love the back tables with their high seating, very discrete and perfect for a date night! We've kept the orders very simple each time with Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado and other very basic maki rolls. The fish was very fresh, the miso soup has a very different taste than other sushi restaurants I've been to (more of a fishy taste) but it was actually pretty good. I love beautiful decor when going out to eat and Yanako does a great job with keeping the decor very simple. Great dining experience. Super fresh and exciting menu. The head chef was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything they were serving. The uni was from Chile the oysters were pei-the chef cares a lot about the product they're selling customers. Will be returning. After walking past Yanako several times I decided to go in. Always thought it would be an overpriced sushi spot, but that notion became untrue. First, the service was excellent and the waiter was very helpful and knowledgable. The sushi was fresh and very affordable. Would also recommend the green tea, which is homemade. I got a gift card from my dad for Christmas for this place. My girlfriend and I went there last night and it was very good. The service is friendly, the food came out quick and it was hot. I got 2 sushi rolls (avacado and asparagus) and they were decent. Kind of pricey if you ask me. But for the location it's worth it! Will definitely go back. read more

This is my favorite sushi place in Philly! Everything is so FRESH and beautifully assembled. They make their own soy sauce, which has a delicious, smoky flavor. The raw fish is always fresh and flavorful, never chewy. I highly recommend the Manayunk roll! It has so many different flavored that come together and it's so delicious. They also serve Thai food here - I have only tried the spring rolls, but they were FANTASTIC. The restaurant is currently under construction so unfortunately this has tainted my first experience. I called to order take out. Was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I would like to preface this by saying I've been to the new location 2 times before this time and have had pleasant experiences but this time really turned me off. Update on the new location: I went to pick up my delivery order and I handed the woman over cash. She looked at me like I had 3 heads and then told me that she doesn't have a register. I politely asked what she wanted me to do because all I had was cash. She made me feel bad for not having credit cards available for use. Upon asking a server if he had change I was able to pay for my takeout. But I ended up having to tip the less than pleasant hostess because I did not have any singles. read more

I have visited this restaurant multiple times, I give it 5 stars because the food is great, and it's byob, the staff is very knowledge about the menu, since my date does not eat gluten. Very helpful. Food and atmosphere is amazing with 3 outdoor dining tables. The service was great, too great! I felt they rushed the food a little. We ordered an appetizer and after 2 bites our entrees were being served. Normally people complain service is too slow but I wanted to prolong the evening. Anyway we were drinking wine we brought because its a BYOB and we wound up staying almost an hour after closing drinking outside with the other table. The Manager was great about it and never once tried to rush us out. I will def go back in the future. read more

Came here on a Saturday night for a dinner date. I love BYO sushi places, so I was in my happy place right away. We ordered miso soup, the Manayunk special roll, California roll, and Spicy Tuna roll. All of the food was fresh and delicious! The rolls were a bit on the expensive side. I've definitely been to plenty of BYO sushi restaurants where the special rolls were not $17 a piece. I would still recommend coming here, just be prepared to drop a good amount of money! read more

It's pretty good. It's not great for kids - no children's menu. The atmosphere is chill. The decor is nice and it feels very clean in the restaurant. The service is okay. I once had a hair in my food, which creeped me out (but mistakes happen). The crowd is diverse in every way. Food was good, but they lost my online order for pickup and made me sit around for 30 mins while they figured it out. They didn't offer me a drink or anything for the inconvenience while I waited, just kept telling me they don't know what happened. I had been moving all day and was exhausted and hungry, so that probably attributed to my mood. Things happen, food gets lost - but good customer service makes ALL the difference in those scenarios. If I were to leave this review solely based on the taste of the food, I would give it 5 stars. Unfortunately, everything that leads up to actually being able to taste the food leaves so much to be desired. I understand we are living in "different" times, but COVID has been going on now for more than a year. You'd think they would have worked out some of the bumps by now. Ordered through the website. Easy!! Received an email within seconds confirming the order and letting us know that it would be ready for pick-up in 20 minutes. Waited, got in car, drove to Manayunk and went in to get our order. Was greeting by a "hostess" who informed us that it would be another 45 minutes before food was ready. We were told that there is a "problem" with the website and that estimated pick-up times are not correct...but that the problem "cannot be fixed." We were also told that it was "the dinner rush." I complained and asked to speak with a manager since the "hostess" seemed less than interested that customers were taking time to drive over to pick up food that was not even close to being ready. After waiting about 3 minutes for anyone to come back, the "hostess" returned holding a bag with our entire order. I will say this - based on what we ordered, it would have been impossible for the kitchen to have prepared our entire meal and pack it up in the 3 minutes she was gone. Sadly, this was not the first (or even second) time that we have expereinced issues with an order. From food not being ready to food being cold, we probably won't return. It's really a shame since the food is tasty. read more

Updating this review because of inconsistency. Menu says Philadelphia Roll and has no description. Commonly, Philly rolls are Smoked Salmon, Avocado or Cucumber, and Cream Cheese. Two times I have ordered this roll and it has had avocado. I ordered this for a third time and the avocado is missing. When I called the restaurant I was told this roll never comes with avocado. I am not sure what the real story is, I was told to ask for avocado next time. Perhaps the menu should explain the ingredients of the standard rolls if they aren't made with common ingredients. I also do not understand why I must wait at the front of the restaurant for a good five minutes while waiting for change and for my loyalty points to be added to my card. When it is busy, the front gets crowded and there is not much space in the lobby entrance area. Either way, Yanako is a true gem in Manayunk and has excellent food. read more
