I give this restaurant a solid 3. I decided to try Yangji Gamjatang because I was craving korean soup and noodles. The plaza has mandatory valet parking which was $5 but they parked our car right next to the dumpster and we had to back up to get in which wasn't great. Not at all fault of the restaurant at all but valet is just something to be aware of for this plaza. The interior was a little small and I liked the ambience. The service was okay and we came for a late lunch around 2 pm so there was no wait. Owner or manager did talk to someone they knew for a part of our service and it was a deadish hour for customers so it was a little hard to flag someone down to pay. We ordered a variety of dishes: tonkatsu, blood sausage stew, mixed thin cooked noodle, and spicy sweet sour chicken. It's a little bit on the pricier side but I expected it from a mom n pop shop in ktown. There was a variety of banchan that I liked and the pickled radish was especially yummy. The tonkatsu and blood sausage stew came out first. My brother thought the tonkatsu was alright but a little dry. The blood sausage stew was the star of the meal. It's very hearty and a little heavy which I loved. It has a lot of components in it (pork blood sausage, leeks, black pepper, pork intestine, Napa cabbage, and lettuce) and it paired nicely with the complimentary white rice. I'd come back for this stew itself and give it a 5/5. The thin cold noodles came out next and it looked delicious but it was very saucy. I think it's to be expected with this noodle but I would've preferred less sauce so it would be more refreshing and less heavy. I thought the taste was decent and it went well with the cucumbers. The chicken came out last and it was disappointing. The image on the menu obviously looked better but for $23.95, the taste and the portion were not up to par. I kind of expected it to taste better than regular sweet and sour chicken and I think it was a little ridiculous to charge nearly $24 for that small platter. The sauce was tasty but the chicken was a little chewy and stringy so it just tasted average overall. There was a lot of leftover that we took home and the total meal for 3 costed $80. Went around 11:30 AM on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. I got the pork neck bone soup and the cold noodles--both were absolutely delicious. The server was super nice and even gave us an extra cup of soup to take home since we had leftovers. Parking, however, was a hassle. It's shared with several restaurants in the plaza and only offers valet. Valet is supposed to be $5, but they SCAMMED us into paying $10 just because we didn't pick up the car immediately after leaving the restaurant. Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance - average, nothing special We stumbled on this place because literally every other restaurant around us had a long wait, and this was the only restaurant we could eat right away in K-town on a Sunday night. They had an extensive menu, front and back, with almost any Korean dish you can imagine. I was quite surprised and was having decision fatigue. Now I usually love ordering gamjatang when I see it on the menu, and I was happy to see this place named after it. I had high hopes for it, and optimistically ordered two bowls/orders of it, only to be slightly disappointed in the taste. Looked amazing, but the broth wasn't as deep and just didn't hit the spot as Gamjagol (another famous gamjatang restaurant) would. But, I was impressed by their kimchi & pork stir fry (kimchi jae-yook bokkeum), spicy squid stir fry (o-jing-uh bokkeum), as well as their banchans. Ironically, even though this restaurant is named after gamjatang (which seems to be their signature dish), I would not come back for the gamjatang; but rather, I'd order the kimchi & pork stir fry as well as the spicy squid stir fry. Service was okay, but only because there were just two servers in the entire restaurant which probably overwhelmed them a bit. All in all, Yangji is a great alternative when other restaurants are too busy and have long waits. read more

The ultimate Korean comfort food in ktown! This place almost feels like a hidden gem while it's surrounded by hangari kalguksu and sun nong dan. We got the pork neck bone soup and beef and cabbage soup, and the broth is such a spicy and good feeling to sip on. It's not insanely spicy, but over time you'll notice your mouth starting to tingle a bit. The meat is tender, and they don't skimp out on the side dishes! Eating in LA, I expected to spend a lot of money but we split the two soups among three people (each soup comes with one bowl of rice) and we had some soup leftover. The gamjatang is not classic taste of gamjatang. In fact it is very gamier which makes me wonder did they soak the meat in water enough, could they have implemented more garlic and ginger to challenge that, and man im probably not gonna eat theirs ever again and stick with hamjipark where the potato flavor exists in the pork neck soup thus the name of pork neck soup is 'gamja tang' (potato soup). Their bibimnaengmyun was okay. I like the fact they make it less sweet but they added too much sesame oil. Their mandoo is actually decent korean mandoo for being a korean mandoo. I just received naengmyeon and gamjatang through DoorDash. After pouring in all of the broth, the naengmyeon still looked like the photo below. The amount of broth was extremely insufficient. I honestly cannot believe this was supposed to be mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). There was barely any soup at all, and I couldn't even eat it. When I called the restaurant, they said they sent the correct portion and spoke with a very poor attitude to me. They said it was the proper amount, but looking at this photo, I seriously question how they can say that. I strongly recommend no one order naengmyeon from this place. The quality of the gamjatang was also very low like the photo below. I had mul-naengmyeon yesterday at Jinsol Gukbap, and it was high quality and truly delicious. This is my go to Korean restaurant in a plaza where there's fierce competition. I prefer this restaurant over the others in the plaza because the food is always delicious, has a good price point and seating is always available! When I eat here I'm ordering army stew, the pork neck soup or pork neck casserole, seafood pancake or Galbijim. You couldn't go wrong with any of these options. Visited Yangjigamjatang for Korean barbecue with my wife. The food was just ok: standard banchan like kimchi and pickled radish, average bulgogi beef, basic galbi ribs, and ordinary bibimbap. Japchae noodles were nothing special. Atmosphere was casual, but it was just silent. Service was the downfall. Our older Asian server was rude, especially to my wife. She asked about a menu substitution for her allergy, and he snapped back dismissively, saying no changes or leave, then rolled his eyes and walked away mid sentence. It's tough when I'm in Korea town and hungry. Parking becomes a chore, choosing a good spot becomes a chore, and getting a table becomes a chore. Lucky for me Yangji had a $4 valet parking and there was no wait. The menu selection variety was vast and the pictures made everything look enticing. My eyes and neck dodged left and right as big plates and bowls of steaming presentations of deliciousness passed by me. So much so that I was granted my request to move to a corner table and was be to enjoy every smell and gawk at every dish being served. A hard choice to make, but make it I did. Choosing a sea food kimchee noodle soup and seafood tofu soon. I enjoyed the udon noodles and had a bite of every type of seafood in my bowl. The tofu soon was hot and not too spicy with a great seafood flavor. It had a touch too much oil for my taste, but nothing a bowl of rice doesn't cure. The bachans were there, nothing spectacular. I hate to waste them, but they were more of a formal table decoration than something to write home about. Went here on a Saturday afternoon after our initial lunch place had way too long of a wait and we were happy to see we were able to be seated instantly. The place had about 4 other groups. Overall I found the service alright, we ran out of water and found it hard to wave them down, ask for them. They also forgot two dishes that we ordered at the beginning.
