The location is great if you're looking for great Ambiance. I was there celebrating a birthday. Staff was attentive but for a bigger party the wait staff didn't work well together. So orders came out faster than others and some items came out incorrectly. Just a little bit more of coordination is needed . Last night was a 5-star experience. It was a slower weeknight so we got seated right away outside. The weather was a bit rainy but we enjoyed sitting outside on the patio where there is an amazing view to people watch and look at the game on tv. There is something for everyone here and I mean everyone: pescatarian, meat eaters, pizza lovers, vegetarians, vegans, beer lovers... the menu is huge! I ordered the blackened tuna sashimi and the garlic noodle appetizers as dinner. My husband ordered the fish sandwich. What was advertised vs what was presented was spot on. I love this place! I'm a Vikings fan and in town for the weekend. The Vikings-Lions game is not on regular TV. I called the Yard House about an hour ahead of game time if they were playing the Vikes-Lions game and the person said they could dedicate a TV to it for me. I showed up and they already had a TV on with that game. The person I spoke to on the phone even remembered me once I arrived and escorted me to the place they had reserved a TV for my game. What incredible service!!! Kayla, my server was also wonderful and attentive and kept my beverage topped off. She checked in on me just right (not too little and not too much). All the staff there were super nice. I couldn't ask for better service! I had their fish and chips. The french fries were incredibly tasty. I would even say they were better than McDonald's fries and for me, that's saying a lot. The fish was hot and had flavor. The dipping sauces for the fish was also good. After having an extensive tour of UTSA for my daughter the senior, we opted to have a casual meal at the Rim! The restaurant was packed, but we were seated by the bar in a reasonable time. The dining room was loud but was filled with patrons enjoying the music and the games on TV. Our party of 6 ordered club sandwiches, salads and edamame. My daughter's double decker BLT was savory. My wife's salad was filled with various vegetables and was very good. My turkey club was flavorful but had soggy bread. The bread should have been toasted to help keep the integrity of the sandwich. Otherwise, the meal was appropriate for the atmosphere and was quite filling and flavorful. Ultimately, this establishment is casual, fun and worthy of a visit when you are by UTSA! read more

Some things have definitely changed in the last 4-years, since my original review. They have yards and the vibe is still casual without being too relaxed; like say the Flying Saucer. Food has been fantastic the last couple of times my wife and I have come, but that was never an issue. Servers and staff are super friendly and attentive to the guests. I've been visiting YardHouse for the past 20 years. Started going as a teen in Long Beach. The service, food, and ambiance carry over well to this location. I have always enjoyed the ahi salad and am extremely happy I can find that same taste at any Yard House. Sadly, this kitchen was a little slow on getting our food out and the place wasn't even full. If you can't decide what you want to eat or have a group that cannot decide on a food type, bring them to yard house. When I'm in S/A, I try to stop in here just to compare it to the Long Beach location. Of course the biggest differential is the lack of ocean, lol. But aside from that, this Yardhouse stacks up nicely to the LBC store. Of course, first and foremost, there is the beer selection... What's not to like about an establishment that's after my own liver!!! And go for my liver they do!!! A massive selection of ales, lagers, stouts, porters... You name it. While I started off with one of my faves, (the never fail me Stella Artois), I ended up with a brew I had never even heard of... Saint Barnabas. A dark, flavorful Belgium Ale that knocks your socks off with a nerve chattering 10%+ alcohol content. Good thing I had eaten well prior to trying it cuz I would have taken up permanent residence at the corner of shitfaced and f*&k me over!!! Man was that stuff good. Surprisingly tasty given the alcohol content but I am a big fan of ales in general... Just usually not the 10%+ variety. Definitely looking for that stuff at BevMo!!! As for the meal, I went with the rib eye and shrimp and it was spot on. I asked for it medium rare and that is exactly how I got it. (I love it when they get it right). It came with garlic mashed potatoes and super thin broccoli, both tasty as hell... But one thing struck me as strange... This place is usually HOPPIN' around Happy Hour and it was only about half full. I just attributed it to the piss poor weather we were having. Service was quick and friendly and even though there were 10 of us total, AND we asked for individual checks, (expense report BS), they didn't even charge us the "large group" tip surcharge you would expect. Well hello there, my little runner-up. This place is my second in command when its happy hour time and I can't find myself a table at Kona. They have some killer food special, but their drink specials are a bit lacking. Lets talk about the good stuff: Food, seating, staff. They have way better food offerings and specials than most places up in La Cantera. From an amazing menu that can offer veg-friendly versions of just about everything on it to your higher class surf n turf pairings, this place delivers. Their pizzas are massive, as is their sliders and chicken finger offerings (again, veggie friendly option available). Their massive book sized menu is sure to please. Their dining room and patio are wonderful. A dimly lit, relaxing environment offering TVs on every available wall space is a great way to relax, catch a game, unwind, or just catch up with your friends. They also offer a delightful patio with plenty of TVs and seating. (Further more they do not confine their happy hour specials to said patio-major bonus points). The staff at Yard House has always knocked it outta the park. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentative, this staff is guaranteed to make you smile. If your looking for recommendations be in food or drink, they've done their homework and have yet to point me in a bad direction. Also feel free to ask for a sample of any brew they have on tap prior to ordering. Nothing worse than having to suck down a beer you're less than fond of. Now in regards to their specials on drinks-it's not the best. Better discounts/specials could be offered but that's easily overlooked when chowing down on some great grub with awesome buds. Came on a Sunday evening and it was not too busy. We were seated within 10 minutes for three people. The atmosphere is slightly loud as is expected of a sports bar/restaurant. I tried the tuna steak sandwich. I thought it was fairly delicious and filling. It came seared with some lettuce and I asked for a side Caesar salad. I tried some of the vegetarian fried chicken. It tasted like a fried tofu, although a little more meaty and dense. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to those who do not eat meat. My husband had the jambalaya and he was very happy with it. The seafood was fairly fresh and the seasoning perfect. The prices run about $15-20 and there's plenty of beer options. For the amount of food, the price seems a little steep. Been here 3 times in the last 2 weeks because it's just that good! Also, the service is 5 stars! Since my partner and i started going, we've been treated with the best service especially from our recent waitress, Jackie! She was very attentive, gave us refills throughout the service, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Recently, I had their new avocado chicken sandwich which was amazing! It's a little messy, but has so much flavor. My partner always orders the boneless wings with a side of their truffle fries (which are also amazing!). We've also had their house margarita which is mixed with a very nice balance. Not too strong but also not too light, it's just right. Lastly, one of my favorite sides is the mac and cheese. We came in and were about to be seated at a dirty table the host offered to clean it but we were interested in having a clean table so we sat at the next one over when we asked if it was okay. Max the servers was good and patient offered us the happy hour items brought us tasters of different drinks and was more than patient with us. The drinks, two ciders, took a while to arrive and the bar wasn't even that busy. We also ordered calamari, queso and onion rings. Calamari had a strange fish flavor that seemed super out of place. Like it was frozen for way too long. We sent that back and got boneless chicken wings. Everything was fine until we found a hair in the queso. A brown hair. We both have black hair. We already felt bad sending the calamari back but the queso just made us lose interested in it. The ribeye I ordered medium and received it well done. We already felt embarrassed to at sending two dishes back that i just kept the steak and ate it. The manager brought us the wings at the start of our main course. She just apologized about the calamari but didn't introduce herself. We had to ask someone to see if she was the manager or not. Not that we were going to complain. First time to visit Yard House ever last night. Friends of ours wanted to meet there for dinner. Arrived around 7ish and the place was packed. Got our seat rather quickly no wait list at that time. They do offer 15 minute call ahead to be the wait list if they are super busy. They offer small plates around $4.75 to $6.95, depending on what you get. There is hummus and pita bread, Single taco , your choice of protein. Garlic noodles, etc. They offer a good variety of small plates. I ordered the garlic noodles and hummus as my meal was not feeling anything else on the menu. Also had their Vampire wine. Which was very pricey and not that great in flavor but, it was THE only Merlot they offered on their menu. I think their wines are wayyy over priced compared to other places that are similar. My husband had their Jambalaya, it was pretty good he said. They offer a smaller portion which cost $14.45, my wine glass of a 9 ounce pour was $13.50 almost as much as his meal. My pita bread was cold and it should be have been served warm. Garlic noodles were OK, kinda greasy flavor. Probably will not go back, not worth the price or flavor. read more
