i want to start off by saying that i'm a woman in my mid 20's, and trying to find a place to take your cars for repairs is SO intimidating (at least it is for me!). after looking on yelp a bit, decided to call yarnell's. they were so kind and patient on the phone, and were able to get my car in the next day. when i dropped my car off, every single person i talked to was SO nice, and i just immediately trusted that they were going to be honest and very fair with me- which they were. my car was ready the next day, and was exactly what i was expecting to pay, honestly even a little bit less. Yarnell's is my go to place in Mountain View. Always friendly, helpful, and trustworthy - this crew will get my business any day. I've been in a few times for my Nissan Versa (once for a mileage service routine check up and back again 5,000 miles for its routine service). The guys at the front desk and over the phone are always helpful and courteous. They explain all of the services well and are trustworthy. This last time I went in they noticed the tires were worn down and ready to replace. They have a tire place nearby that they team up with and it's super convenient. They found a great deal on my tires (less than $100 each) and it was reasonable. Very happy with the service and convenience provided. I went once to see about a key issue for the Versa and they see lots of this vehicle and knew of some troubleshooting tips. They provided some tests for free and nothing came of it but it was good to know that they take care of their customers. All in all, since we moved close to this spot it is our go to and I highly recommend them for your cars service needs. You won't be disappointed. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been bringing my now 16 year old Toyota Corolla to Yarnell's for over a decade. The last few weeks, my (gracefully) aging car had a few issues and Yarnell's took great care of her! The starter motor failed on a Saturday morning (of course). I dropped the car off after managing to get it started...by some miracle. Despite giving Yarnell's zero notice, they had her fixed by mid-day Monday. Later in the month, I hit debris on the highway, causing a sudden tire blowout. After getting my tire replaced - somewhere in the Central Valley - I noticed a weird sound and Yarnell's investigated, quickly solving the issue. While I definitely recommend calling ahead (common courtesy), I do appreciate their responsiveness to my little emergencies. Super professional, reasonable prices and quick service. I started using Yarnell's with Mike's dad, Dale, back in the early 80s on a reference from a friend, and have use Yarnell's on all my and my family's vehicles over the decades. And my brother's family. And my Dad. Always great service (even on just a stop by to ask a question - but the shop fixed it for free in a couple of minutes!), always great results... ...until this last time. First, a scheduling mishap. Hmmn, ok, stuff happens. Then an actual mistake in the major service work (first one in all the decades!) that damaged a valve. But Mike and the guys made no excuses, took responsibility, and performed a complete valve job (opening and reworking the entire top of the engine...) - - for free, to set things right - and paid for the rental car to deal with the delay and the scheduling mishap. I planned on getting 200k out of the car. Now I'm thinking 300k with my new top half. I can't stress enough how comfortable it is to work with a team that is this honorable and responsible. They tell me when work can be delayed (which it usually can), never create unnecessary work or put a sales pitch on, and they take responsibility for their work - even when it hurts. Exceptional experience at Yarnell's. They're straightforward, honest, friendly, even at 7:30am and did a fantastic job with my car. There was no BS and they charged me substantially less than the Toyota dealership. I was surprised when my bill was as low as it was so I went back and asked the guy who knew my car if there was an error or if there was anything he recommended I could do additionally for service at this time. To this he said there's probably nothing to worry about, given the thorough inspection they did on my Prius. I have a 2011 base model with high mileage so it's nice to know I'm doing okay. I will certainly return and already referred my partner for her vehicle's imminent service. The service and professionalism isn't even the best part. They have the best dogs on-site just hanging out and as chill as can be. Brutus the bully stole my heart so they'll see me again. Yarnell's should be #1 on best of Mountain View. It was nice to be able to find another place to be able to take my car quickly thanks to a referral I got from a client of mine who also takes their car here. Like the place I had been taking my car to, I was told by my client that this was a family-owned business. And when I did pick up my car after coming back from grabbing tea with a friend, I was told that my brakes were still good (with the approximate percentage included) so all they needed to do was the oil change. So I thanked them for their honesty/transparency. If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars, I would. I used to take our Toyota Avalon, Sienna, and Camry to a dealership for regular maintenance; however, I began taking our Toyotas to Yarnell's a few years ago at the suggestion of a neighbor. Since then, I've found that Ed and the others at Yarnell's do a better job for less. Most recently, the roof antenna (i.e., fin) on our Avalon got sheared off and needed to be replaced. It turned out to be a much bigger and more labor-intensive job than expected. Ed guaranteed that he'd have the job completed so that I could leave the next day on a trip. He worked until almost 10 p.m. to make sure the fix was made properly and that there was no leak where the antenna is attached. Even though the work required countless more hours than anticipated, Ed kept the original quote. Yarnell's customer service, ability to do Toyota maintenance, and friendly atmosphere are unbeatable. read more

I have known Ed since 2019, and he has been providing excellent pricing and repairs on my vehicles. I own a Lexus IS250 and Toyota Supra, and I don't take them anywhere else other than Yarnell's. I called around and other shops tried overselling me, and this is not the case with Ed. He gave me his recommendation, provided the desired service and also inflated my tires to have correct pressure. He called me to organize the drop off of both of my vehicles, and called me throughout the day to keep me informed on the status of my vehicles. He preformed a sparkplug change, transmission flush, radiator coolant flush, and breaklines flush for a fraction of the cost of anywhere elase. I will go as far and telling people that they should wait to have their repairs done by Ed and his crew even if they are a week away. read more

Excellent Service and most of all an Honest repair care facility. Its obviously hard to find a shop that is honest and does not overcharge. I first brought my car 1995 Nissan 300zx here for service over 27 yrs ago in 1995. I was fortune to meet the original owner Yarnell's work was always been professional and always presented with options if available. I grew up repairing cars myself, worked at a dealership and am very particular on how the job is done. I expect any shop working on my cars to do the same and they go beyond these expectations. Now I bring all 3 of my cars to the Yarnell's service center. It took me years to write this but I wanted to keep this little secret for me only. Ed said bring it over and, within 10 minutes, he had blown out the dirt and debris that was causing the leak. NO charge. What a wonderful service they provide! BEWARE! I paid thousands $$$$ for a head-gasket replacement at Yarnells. 7 days later my ENGINE BLEW UP! Only drove ~120 miles. Yarnells would not take responsbility trying to blame it on my engine having high milage. No partial refund, nothing. They basically told me that's too bad and to go kick rocks. Very unfortunate as these guys seemed like nice guys to talk to but this is absolutely terrible business practice. I hope this warning can serve as a warning for others. read more

I used to take my cars to Yarnell's many years ago when I worked close to them and always liked and trusted their service. Recently, had the tires replaced at Big-O tires in Newark (close to where I live) and they said our car with 120k miles needed $4,200 in work done on it. Took it to Yarnell's who did the 120k service ($570) and checked the Big-O quote...other than what was covered in the 120k service, the other $3,500 in work was deemed unnecessary after thoroughly inspecting the car. Thanks Ed and the team there for saving us $3,500; it's well worth putting up with the commute traffic for the quality of service you provide. read more

These folks are amazing! They are honest, sincere, and more than fair. My 15 year old vehicle stopped running after 297,000 miles on 85. It was towed here, they got it running, assessed the problem, and called me questioning if the car was worth the cost of repairs. I called them to make an appointment to replace my passenger side front axle and got quoted $285. I ended up paying $372.56 when they were done. As I left their shop I noticed two things. A slight grinding noise at low speeds coming from the side where they worked on, and my alignment was off! Ill be going straight but my steering wheel would be turned to the 11 o'clock position! I called them back to tell them about the noise and they said to head back to their shop so they can look into it. The mechanic said the noise was coming from the backing plate rubbing against the rotor and that he fixed it. As i drove off i could still here the noise... read more

Over 20 years ago Yarnell's was recommended to me by an attendant at the Stanford golf course who knew Dale and told me he was both an honest mechanic and an honest golfer. While I can't attest to the golf, Dale, and now his kids run perhaps the best Toyota shop in the Bay Area. I was worried that the service might change once Dale passed away, but the shop hasn't missed a beat. Mike, Trevor, and Dan have kept Dale's spirit alive every day. Our family (and my in-laws) have had 8 Toyotas and have had all of them serviced at Yarnell's. Yes, I converted my in-laws and now they are HUGE fans as well! A big part of the reason we continue to buy Toyotas is because we know we can get them serviced with kindness, honesty and excellent mechanical knowledge at Yarnells. For us it's been Trucks, SUVs, Prius, and Civics. From the 90's up to today. They rock on routine maintenance, but what separates this crew is troubleshooting. They have seen everything and are pretty much mind readers when it comes to understanding your problem. I once took in the car of a friend who was in crisis and she didn't have the money to get her car fixed.. Her 4-Runner wasn't working. She and her kids desperately needed a car. When I arrived, Trevor recognized it wasn't one of my usual cars. When he asked and I explained the situation (and that I was going to cover the tab), they fixed the car, fixed a few other things that were soon to become problems, and then DRASTICALLY reduced their shop labor costs as an act of kindness. What kind of shop does that!?!?! Yarnell's does. Building a relationship with a shop like Yarnell's has been invaluable to our family. I've sent dozens of friends to Yarnell's over the years and they've always left satisfied. I do miss Dale (so many good conversations and so much talk about golf), but I'm sure to keep coming back. I just drove my car across country from Ohio to California. I needed an oil change and tire rotation. This place did a fantastic job on my car. Their customer service is great. I called about scheduling and they were able to get me in asap. You can tell they do honest work. My oil change and tire rotation came out to $95, you can't beat that ! Everywhere else that I called was giving me $200-$300 estimates. I will definitely be back again when I need more work done on my car. read more

I decided to update my review to 3 stars. I'm still not going back to them after they lied (twice, on separate occasions!) about contacting me before performing repair work and charging me: that's 100% unacceptable behavior from a business. Period. However, I recently had to call them to get a list of the repair work done (I'm now selling the car involved, but a family member lost the "paperwork folder"). Despite my past negative interactions with them, they were friendly, and happily provided me with a list of all repairs. Also, going over that list reminded me that they *did* do good work, and together that convinced me to raise the review to 3 stars. If you want good repair work done ... and don't mind if the repair people dishonestly tell you they'll call, then go ahead and make the repair without any consent, and then give you a somewhat inflated bill after ... you might try them. read more

This is the best service shop for Toyotas in the Bay Area (perhaps even the country)! I have been taking my Toyota cars here for over 30 years. The reason is that their staff is superb and totally honest. They will never recommend "fixing" or replacing something that is still safely serviceable. Their prices are reasonable and they stand by their estimates. If something was more complicated then they originally thought, the original estimate is honored. I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon with 187,000 miles on it. Yarnell's has done every service on it and it is in great shape with still a long future ahead for it. Their care and attention to detail is the key. I used to live nearby in Mountain View, but for the last 24 years, I live in Los Gatos and still take my cars to Yarnell's. It is worth the drive. Many years ago, I had a breakdown in another Toyota. A local mechanic recommended repairs and gave me a quote. I called Yarnell's and their price for the repair was 25% less. It was cheaper to pay for the car to be towed 20 miles to Yarnell's and have it fixed there; also it gave me the certainty that it would be fixed correctly.
