Found this place on a whim luckily for me, they are minutes from my place. A pump broke in my car, thankfully they had the item in stock. Dropped off in the am and it was done in the early afternoon. I take all of my vehicles to Yarnell's, and have for years now. All of my family's Toyota's, Nissans and Honda's have been serviced here. This crew is the friendliest, most honest hardworking one I've had the pleasure of meeting. I've had everything from fuel injector work, A/C, A/F sensor troubleshooting, oil changes and much more. If you don't need it, it's never recommended. In fact, you I'll be told when you should start thinking of replacement in the future. Pricing and cost is always fair, but I've also brought parts in for installation because of my lack of time to complete a project. "A good mechanic is more important than a faithful wife". I couldn't be happier with the service at Yarnell's Service Center. My 2017 Toyota Corolla needed the 50k service and they were able to see me within an hour of my call. Everything was fast, well done and very reasonably priced. They even told me that I didn't have to change my entire windshield wipers but only the " brushes " to save money. My front passenger blinker hit some debris on the highway and stopped working. Became worried because the back one started blinking extra fast. I called several places that wanted to charge me for an inspection or wait a week for an appointment. Yarnell's figured out over the phone that I only needed to replace the bulb. Offered to fix it for me same day at no charge. The whole process took 5 minutes. The friendliness and service was astounding. Will call these guys first the next time I need repairs. read more

Finally found a sound mechanic for my Toyota 97 Corolla. I missed my honest and fair priced mechanic in San Francisco (Will's Auto) and had to find one in S. Bay because of a recent move. Luckily Yarnell's offers the same things I valued with my last mechanic: The +'s: Professional and great service. My family and I were referred to Yarnell's about 10 years ago by a family friend who owns the body shop next door to them. We have gone to a few different mechanics over the years for our 4Runner and we ran into issues like high labor costs and issues not being resolved in the first go around so finding Yarnell's was great for us since they are reasonably priced and have been great with resolving These guys are as good as it gets when it comes to service. I had an issue about 6-7 months ago when my car would brake. Apparently, it was some weird thing with the ABS being initiated every time I would be coming to a stop...pretty hazardous when stuck in traffic on a busy freeway. I went to a couple of places near home hoping the car needed a brake replacement to fix the issue but no luck. We finally took the car over to Yarnell's where they were able to help us out. The first time around they adjusted the brakes and the issue persisted but we took it in about a week later and Mike and his team were able to identify the issue. They even gave us a discount since they weren't able to identify the issue the first time around. They are really flexible with dropoffs even allowing me to pull my 4Runner into their shop for the night when I dropped it off after work to prevent any theft. We will continue to use them going forward since they have been great to us for all these years. read more

I took my Lexus R350 to Yarnell's Nov.7 2017, first time there, for check out of noisy riding and to install a HEPA cabin filter. I dropped it off overnight. The next day Rick left a 1 1/2 minute message telling me exactly what I wanted to know, as well as a tip on lumping the coolant replacement with the 30,000 mile service next year to save money and time. They sound honest and genuine, as their website says, ethical business. They inflated tires for free; the ride felt smooth and buoyant when I got the car back (this was the next day; prompt turnaround). I'm no expert but a glance at the parts cost seemed like honest pricing. Also the labor cost was lower than expected for such good work. Everything I saw gives me a good feeling about this place, including the behavior of the person who helped me when I picked up the car. The office is clean. Catalytic Converters for Prius. Earlier this week on Sun night/Mon morning we had 2 Prius (Priui ?) parked in our driveway and both had their cat converters stolen. After reporting it to local Police, and our insurance company, and some research here are my recommendations. The cat converter thieves love 2004 -2009 Prius due to high black market value of the rare earth minerals in the cat converters ~$500 each. And they can jack up your Prius and cut out the cat converter in 2-3 minutes. Easy pickuns. Owners of these Prius should park their cars overnight inside a garage if possible. Another excellent option is having the MillerCat Catshield installed which covers up the cat converter and has tamper proof bolts. Thieves can still get this cover off but it takes far more time and will most likely discourage them and they will move on the easier targets. Recommend Yarnell Service Center in Mt View 650-969-9018. They have the parts in stock and have done many of these installations. Your out of pocket cost $395. read more

Yarnell's has been servicing my wife's Acura for years. They have done everything from routine servicing to major work like replacing the timing belt & water pump to replacing the entire transmission when the original crapped out at 200K miles. They are excellent and great out aging beast as if it were new and shiny. They even top the oil off between services like shops used to do... Can't thank them enough for their help over the years. Yarnell's has been my only service provider for the 28 years I've lived here. They usually turn around my car in 24 hours without an appointment, provide excellent and friendly service, and are the most honest auto shop I've ever dealt with. I enjoy doing business with them, but because of Toyota's quality and Yarnell's expertise, I don't see them often. Most important to me is that they treat my car and approach any repair as if it they were working on one of their cars. I wouldn't trust my car to anybody else. It is so good find an honest repair shop. They have completely earned my trust. There have been several occasions over the years when I went to them for some repair and they either gave me a workaround or told me that I didn't really need that work done. The latest example was when I got my oil change done at a local Midas. Midas told me that my power steering fluid was leaking and I needed to remove and replace the rack and pinion. They gave me an estimate of $1,300. I didn't want to get it fixed at Midas so I called Yarnell to make an appointment for the repair work. The person on the phone explained to me that if the steering is working well then I can simply top up the power steering fluid. If it is a small leak, there is no urgency to fix it and I am better off simply topping off the fluid as needed. They saved me over $1000 worth of repairs. read more

I've trusted all my vehicles with Yarnell's service for over a decade now, and I'll be candid to state that the reason I hadn't written them the stellar review they've been deserving of me well before today is because I could plainly see that they had plenty of business to keep them busy due to their superior standards and workmanship. But due to the "pinch" that this pandemic is causing to businesses like Mike Yarnell's, I wanted to give his shop a HIGHLY DESERVED boost. When one of my "babied" Toyotas was totaled by a distracted driver, I was sold a 2-year deeply discounted service package with the brand new vehicle I bought through a decently-rated Bay Area dealership. But I honestly couldn't WAIT until the two year dealership service contract was up because the dealership service department was the absolute PITS! e.g.: regular maintenance appointments were habitually delayed over FOUR HOURS + beyond their "promised to be ready" time, they overcharged ridiculously for ANYTHING that was outside of the maintenance plan I bought through them, and the LAST STRAW was when one mechanic FALSIFIED a brake inspection report that was exposed when I had to return the next day via TOW TRUCK because one of my brakes FAILED after driving a few miles while heading back home, and the OBVIOUS damage caused by a defective warped rotor would have been easily caught if the inspection had ACTUALLY been done as I had requested! For that horrid experience, the dealership waived the $900 brake repair due to this, but it was just ONE MORE crappy experience in a long history of them, and I really could have been seriously hurt if the brake failed at a higher speed! So, ever since that vehicle has now joined the other vehicles in my household that have been getting regularly serviced at Yarnell's for over a decade, I've NEVER once received ANYTHING but RELIABLY STELLAR service from them that's saved us (literally!) thousands from what dealerships regularly charge... even WITH dealership "coupons" and "specials." And EVERY SINGLE person (about 10 as of this date) that I've personally referred Yarnell's to has had the same range of experiences that I've had at this shop. If you want a place where you NEVER have to worry about being overcharged, and where INTEGRITY and QUALITY workmanship is the NORM, Yarnell's is your shop. Please help keep this awesome family-run shop in business during this quarantine/SIP ... when I noticed that one of my vehicle's next maintenance (oil, front brakes, etc,) was due in less than 100 miles, I thought this would be a good time to take it to Yarnell's and I was "right" in that THIS time I didn't have the "usual" several day wait for an opening... but that also made me want to write this review because this shop TRULY deserves the support! P.S. Please be wary of negative reviewers that "update" their SAME exact 1-2 star negative reviews... they are usually scammers that are trying to blackmail highly rated services like Yarnell's in order to remove their unfair reviews... the HUNDREDS of us who know Mike and his team for YEARS know that those reviews are either bogus or that whatever they state "happened" was not Yarnell's shop's fault, because if it were, we could all vouch from our own history of experiences that Yarnell's would have handled it with the professional integrity they've a LONGSTANDING and well-established reputation for. read more

This place is friendly and inviting with tons of dogs running around, it has a family vibe. They seem to be very knowledgeable on Toyota's, which is my vehicle of choice. Every service I have received, with the bigger being the timing belt, was straightforward and I paid what they estimated. My only gripe, which is a result of the location, is the price. They do good work but the prices are steep. I know this is because it's a pricey area. So, even though the prices can be high, I rather pay a bit more and have solid work. I will continue to be a patron as needed, which with Toyota, isn't that often. read more

Today I came in to drop of my car for a sizable amount of work and the mechanics and front desk people were not wearing masks. I told them I didn't feel safe approaching the counter with people coming and going without masks. They said "ok" and I left. I had my granddaughters Mercedes serviced here because I heard of the excellent service from my friends and read the reviews. After looking around I picked Yarnells they were very attentive on the phone answered all my questions and took her car in right away. When we arrived we were meet by 2 beautiful well behaved dogs they are the best sweetest dogs I've met. The young man that came with me is terrified of dogs but once he met them he fell in love. The owner and his mechanics are all very respectful the shop is SUPER CLEAN I was surprised being a mechanic shop some are pretty gross. They gave us a time frame and actually it was ready earlier loved that since we were on a time schedule. They charged us half the price Mercedes would of charged us and it was well worth the trip from south San Jose I will take all my cars here and send all my friends here. I would give it more stars if I could. I thing I did learn while waiting was the beautiful dogs he has at the shop are rescue dogs very well trained and loved. Came here on account of high Yelp reviews, and because it was very close to my office. Check engine light came on and took the car in on 6/21, my brother checked the code for me and told me to let the guys at the shop know that there was an emissions leak somewhere and it wasn't the gas cap because he had already checked the gas cap (he's a car guy). I let them know, and they ran a diagnostic. Came back and told me it was the gas cap so they replaced it. A couple weeks later, check engine light came back on. Took it back to them, they ran a second diagnostic and couldn't find anything. Then told me they had to do a deeper diagnostic. At this point, I was skeptical... you tell me it was the gas cap and I now know it obviously wasn't, because the check engine light is back on again. They called me and told me that my charcoal canister had to be replaced and the full assembly would cost $600. I asked them if this was the case in the first place, why they replaced my gas cap instead of getting down to the problem. They said that it's Toyota procedure to check the gas cap first (seemed more like them playing a guessing game than anything). Fine, $600 is a lot for a 2006 Toyota Camry, but whatever. If that would fix the problem, then I would have been satisfied. But nope, a couple days later, the check engine light came back on again. Took it back to them. They ran a diagnostic and told me they couldn't find anything wrong and that my computer system might be messed up or it might be another problem so I should take it to Toyota because they couldn't do any more for me at this point. Don't know if they realize how sketchy they sound when they go from,"Oh, it's the gas cap," to "Oh, it's the charcoal canister," to "Oh.... we don't really know what it is". And I'm out $600. I'm sure they're great with other things, as they have high reviews, but probably not the best to come here if you have an emissions problem. Nice people, sub-par service. My family has been a loyal customer for years at Yarnell... so I started taking my Toyota here as a result. My past 2 experiences (which were both done in the last month) included an oil change, and a water belt. 1st day, standard oil change for about $35. It's close to my work, and has a free shuttle service (drop off only so be aware). I know I can get a cheaper oil change somewhere else, but I trusted the guys here and it was convenient. About a week later, I went to a local gas station for my smog checkup, and the mechanic noticed... a ton of pink dried crusty stuff around my water pump, under the hood of the car, and the surrounding area. I had no idea what it meant, but basically, the pink stuff was dried coolant and The mechanic said it was the 1st thing an Auto Repair 101 student should have been able to catch, and especially by the people who changed my oil. This guy didn't do water valve changes but suggested I get it fixed ASAP. I don't think there was a way this valve broke after my recent oil change because the amount and density of the pink crust was so great that it had to have happened more than 5 days previous. 2 days after the smog check I went back to Yarnell's and had them check it out. The mechanic looked under my hood, and was shocked to see the results. He said the mechanic who did the work on my car should have seen it and reported it. But who wants to admit they're wrong, so he said he'd ask the man who did the work and see what he thought. Obviously, I was told that this wasn't there when I came in for my oil change, and it must have just happened. Somehow I doubt this. The reason this bothers me so much is that I had vacation plans to take a road trip up to Oregon. My car needed to be in tip top shape. I just felt like I wasn't taken care of at Yarnell's. The biggest challenge in finding an auto shop is determining who is honest, and who's out to squeeze your wallet. I used to be very loyal to Yarnell's, but am on the market for a new car mechanic. I think they do a some great work but I just don't trust them. I give them the benefit of the doubt and give 3 stars... My dad has a few qualms about them too, and he was probably one of their biggest fans. That says something. read more
