This is a rather sizable store as ethnic specialty stores go; don't be deceived by how it looks from the storefront. There is a good selection of sausages and other cured meats, cheeses, refrigerated food items, beverages, dessert items, candies, and other grocery items too varied to mention here - look at the pictures I posted for a sampling of what the store has to offer. While most items here are Russian, there is also a lot of foods and beverages from other European countries such as Poland and the Baltic states. You can also come here for lunch from Monday to Friday to try borscht, dumplings (pelmeni and vareneki), blintzes, and different kinds of sandwiches. I recently went exploring this place and discovered some of the best potato salad (deli) that I've had in a very long time! Who knew Russian potato salad would rival our American classic?? Yasha rang up my order (yes, Yasha...the owner...from Russia...get it?) Very nice older dude. I got a little bit of a lot of things. Loved the lager. Loved the chocolate. The deli meats were good but if you're unsure about any, just ask for a sample. The cookies, also in deli case, were super slammin! Not a traditional cookie. Full-on attitude. Stoic faces with cold hearts. They clearly must be doing well and don't need you to shop to support their business. I've been in several times over the years for half sour pickles and bread. They still have bread but wouldn't slice it. No more half sour pickles. I could write a long review on the attitude when I asked about half sour pickles and sliced bread, but what's the point. I don't plan on learning Russian to try and win over their cold hearts. Have shopped here a few times, so I feel comfortable leaving a review now. Their fresh bread is delicious, get it when you can as they sell out. The selection is good. It's a smaller market with a deli, so don't think supermarket. I make a point of stopping here whenever I'm in the north valley. I see some bad reviews complaining about Russia. This is a small American business, so I don't see what the problem is, maybe they just don't like small business. And if you don't like Putin, tell Europe to stop buying his gas. read more

What a find! We just discovered this lovely store last week. The meats and cheeses looked delicious. The only reason we didn't get any was because we didn't have a cool place to store them while we did other errands. We will definitely be back to try some. There was a nice variety of everything you might want from beer to candy to dry goods. My boyfriend bought two Russian beers to try at home and I got some candy. Everyone there was very friendly. A gentleman patron spoke to me in Russian and I smiled back since I don't know the language. He laughed when he realized and then we spoke in English. It was such a fun experience. I must chuckle when I read the reviews of people stating that they are upset over Yasha selling Russian products...good grief,it's a Russian store folks! What do you want them to sell?! Eskimo pies? If you are upset about it, don't even come through the doors! And insofar as "supporting the Russian economy" by buying Yasha's goods, The reviewers have little comprehension on international marketing.....products from many various Eastern European countries are offered, and I am always treated extremely well when I shop at Yasha's. The original owner was a big fan of President Putin when Putin 1st came to power in Russia and realigned the country, the owner has since died and his children leave the cut outs of President Trump and Putin as a tribute to their Dad. Try to understand the history before applying your own ,present day emotions and biases to a family owned venture....you might miss out on some good Russian food! I bought a Suba salad from Yasha's. My first bite told me something had changed from my previous experience. As I looked more closely at the ingredients, I noticed there were a lot of carrots rather than beets which typically have more flavor than carrots. I LOVE this deli! There is no other in all of AZ like it. The Staff are always helpful and kind, Diane was especially helpful last time I went. I am not Russian, but my daughter-in-law is. I wanted to make her feel happy and special when she visited my home recently (she lives in Fl). I asked Diane what type of goodies I could surprise her with. Wow! We have been going to the store on numerous occasions, and it's never been a problem with the customer service until yesterday, October 26, 2019. I had never experienced such humiliation since I left the former country of residence, and it was clearly based on the way I speak and look: A young woman who worked at the deli section (dark short-haired, in her mid-20s and early 30s), upon seeing me, told me "I don't speak Russian," and when I switched to English, she could not understand my English either. She was acting as if she doesn't know what deli item I was referring to. It took a while for her until she finally "understood" what I needed. A few seconds later, she transferred my order to another saleswoman as they both openly kept chuckling about the situation. Her whole attitude showed she was not interested in helping us due to the way I either looked or spoke. I hope the owners should get a close look at the people they hire. Such an attitude toward customers no matter what language they speak or look like is unacceptable. read more

I stopped in today to check it out and get a few things after hearing about it online. I was pleasantly surprised at the hard to get items one can purchase there- even as a German Immigrant (me)! They have fresh baked bread- it was still warm when I got it- from Europe, imported half baked and they finish baking it onsite! I made sandwiches when I got home and the memories from the taste, texture and wonderful crust was incredible! If you're a snob and need to be pampered, with sophistication, white glove treatment you'll only complain. If you're looking for authentic imported items and have an appreciation for Eastern European (even German) foods and products and warm interaction with hard working Immigrants, then this is a wonderful place to shop regularly! I am giving this place a high rating because honestly they deserve it. I don't know of any other store in the valley that sells Russian food aside from Asiana Market, but they're mostly Asian. Remember it's not EASY to have ethnic Russia food in the fricken desert people! Obviously the prices will be a bit more since the owners have to pay for shipping from across the world! It's common sense guys! I will not buy pelmeni from them though because the dough just fell apart in the boiling process. I know how to cook and boil pelmeni ok, I was born in Russia. The consistency of them is a disaster. I would recommend going to Asiana market and buying their pelmeni, they're so much better. Good luck finding them though at Asiana, since they have so much stuff there, haha. Last time I saw Pelmeni at Asiana they were in the freezer section on the end cap of the aisle. Back to Yasha's.. the candy selection is decent here, but be careful with the brand, sometimes I feel like they're the off brands and not the actual brand, which may or may not taste differently. The parking is in the back and the road is bumpy to exist, but it is totally a nostalgic feeling that I miss so much. I go there whenever I feel kind of homesick (I grew up in Latvia) or when I want to get some Russian marinaded but not too salty pickles, just like my grandma used to make! Great selection of all kind of Russian and European beers! I always have something special to bring when I go to an American party ;) lots of Russian candy, sausages, pelmeni etc. the only reason I give 4 stars, because it's hit and miss, sometimes they don't have some things, or black bread is not very fresh... but what can one expect, it's highly specialized grocery store, it's not like tons of Russians live here and go there every day. My wife went shopping there and among various items, it included Napoleon cake and Russian mustard. One just tasted horrible and the other made me sick: 1) Napoleon cake: never ate such dried out, old cake in my life. Way overpriced. Tasted horrible. Worst cake I ever had. 2) Russian mustard: made me sick. Removed the price tag and noticed that it expired in 10/12 and they sold it in 9/15. Called AZ department of health and they said unfortunately there is nothing they can do if a supermarket sells expired stuff. So if you go there, better check if things are fresh or if you get some 3 year expired stuff that has been sitting on the shelf forever and they cover it up with putting the price tag over the expiration date. As original russian I used to love syrniki ( cheese pancake) traditional russian food. So today I bought some from this store. What I got was clump of flower doe and few specks of cottage cheese. Their selection is OK, it's not great & definitely not outstanding. Forget about real Russian caviar, it's not sold here. If you can be satisfied with salmon caviar or black farmed caviar, then yes, they do sell it, but you won't find Sevruga or Osetra Malossol from Caspian sea here... If you compare this store to one of the Russian stores in Brooklyn (mecca of Russian stores), it will fail in comparison, but if you live in Phoenix area and want to visit a decent Eastern-European store, then this is it. I don't think there are better Russian stores in this area anyway. Be careful though, as everywhere else, check the expiration date. I found several expired goods in this store. Btw, if the item was produced in Russia, don't forget that they use a different system there -date first, then a month. E.g 03.07.09 means July 3, 2009. Also, quite often they stamp the date when the item was made instead of the expiration date, so it's pretty confusing if you can't read in Russian. read more

I shopped here on numerous occasions for beer and their eggplant spread. They have a decent selection of eastern European brews such as Golden Pheasant. No Staropramen though. The eggplant spread is the best. Smeared on rye bread and even better. They also have Hungarian sausage which is very good with sauerkraut and other Hungarian dishes. Yasha is my hero.... Thank you Yasha, for importing all the foods i call "grandma foods." You can find more different kinds of Kasha here than imaginable. They have a huge assortment of dried and canned imported food. Yasha has a bakery area that has traditional Russian, Ukrainian and Polish breads. They carry wine, cooking oils, and even a section of middle eastern imports. My favorite sections of the store include the deli counter at the center of the store where you can find specialty baked goods, meats and sausages, salads, and other unique items. On my last trip there, I bought some Halvah, some beet and potato salad, and a piece of Russian candied fruit stollen that i rarely see in any market. My other favorite section is the freezer and refrigerated section. They keep frozen blini, blintzes of all kinds, imported cheeses, butter, cakes and dinner items. The star of the show is Yasha. After reading an article in the paper about finding Russian food in Phoenix during the Olympics, I had to visit the place. It turned out to be an excellent decision. 2 of my friends and I made the drive after a round of Disc Golf. We were hoping for a place that might offer sandwiches like many deli, but this is basically a grocery store with a wonderful meat and bakery counter. We grabbed some 9 and 12 percent Russian beer for $2.49 each. WOW! Some Gaiser's Fine Mother Goose, Pork, Chicken Liver, Veal spread that is out of this world good. A variety of baked cookies that I didn't share. Landsjager that was good, but had bigger pieces of fat in it that I prefer. It was tasty. I had a hard time walking out without purchasing more items, but decided to come back again in the future and wanted a reason to make the drive north. Besides a good selection of packaged and frozen european food this store carries fresh savory pastries, which are really tasty and great quality. I made an order in advance for a few boxes of layered dough savory pastries with different filling and sweet curd pancakes. They were fresh and packed nicely in presentable paper boxes on time for me to pick up. The pastries are way less expensive than elsewhere.
