I'm pretty sure that was the best gyro I've ever consumed. It's kind of consuming me at the moment, actually. I just checked in on the ol' tummy, you know, gave it a little test drive, just to be sure it hadn't stretched out or grown in size recently. Nope. Same limitations, only so much I can shove in there. Dammit. As I lie here digesting, I digress: Yasmine's is gooooood. I really liked what Clayton said, I have Foreign Flavor Bias (FFB), I automatically add a star to international fare simply because it dares to stretch our culinary norms. And really, gyro isn't foreign to me whatsoever; growing up in the Midwest, gyro was a "safe" alternative to almighty beef; Yasmine's gyro is my hero. Over the years (I ain't tellin' how many), increasingly complex and challenging mediterranean fare has quietly crept into the mainstream American dining lexicon. Praise Allah, it's about time. While I waited to order, I noted four men in thobes who were clearly feeling blessed to eat something from the homeland. And baby, I'll remember Yasmine the next time I want a fix. I'll dream of her baba ghanough, felafel and chicken shawerma, The hummus was my second fave, they absolutely do not pull punches with the spicy layer of green stuff across the top, prepare for fire. I've been to Yasmine's about 3 times. I like getting takeout from there. Their lamb is delicious. Big tender chunks served up with rice and salad. Their kabobs come with a delicious garlic sauce that I could seriously bathe in. I know that might be gross...but it's that good! Try the pita and hummus for an appetizer. I'm biased in favor of restaurants that aren't New Mexican, Mexican, or standard American food in that I feel sometimes that my desire to enjoy a variety of foods and always have an array of options at my fingertips compels me to be kinder to restaurants serving cuisine from far away places. Actually, I may just be biased. Ask me if I care. I don't. But I do care that I reconcile my own pleasure in finding that Albuquerque is so wonderfully culturally diverse with my belief that I should deliver an honest and fair review of any establishment. Hence, I'll go ahead and say this place started off with five stars for serving middle eastern cuisine and for being owned and operated by people from the Middle East, but lost a whole star for their lamb shawarma. This isn't to say their shawarma was bad, as the white sauce alone could make almost any sandwich, but I was a bit bummed out by the lamb. In truth, when I think lamb and Middle Eastern, I think of the most seasoned piece of meat the world's ever beheld plus a tenderness that only non-food comparisons could achieve. But here, I found myself chewing too much fat, seeking out in each bite a flavor of long lost middle eastern restaurants I've been to in other cities, and thinking maybe this place was a one-hittter-and-quitter. But then I tried my wife's chicken shawarma. Se llama redemption. True story. All that tenderness and flavor I was seeking in my lamb was all along right there in my wife's sandwich. One bite of hers and I was then able to appreciate the bread, which the owners purport to be pita but it really seems like the bread from a torta having made love to pita and birthing a handsome bastard child. It was unique but still quite good. Add to this some good fries and a $15 bill and I was ready forgive this place for the disappointing lamb. Thus the four star rating. read more

Finally a great Mediterranean restaurant in ABQ! We had the gyros with fries and the chicken kebab over rice with a very fresh side salad. The pitas were fluffy and light and the gyro meat tasted more like the Turkish version (kebap) to me, which was great because I prefer that to the Greek. The tzaziki wasn't the watered down version you get at so many places, but a deliciously thick concoction, full of fresh cucumber and garlic! We also had a delightful substance called garlic sauce, which I can only assume was invented for the Gods on Olympus! Make sure you get a portion on the side for fry dipping! The staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed! Can't wait to come back and try out some of the other dishes! read more

Consistently great falafel, hummus, tahini, gyro's, baklava, etc. I've eaten here many dozen times over the years and everything has been consistent. Having said that other reviewers seem to have had a different experience so caveat emptor. I wouldn't give this place five stars in a more metropolitan area that has dozens/hundreds of middle eastern eateries, but it's easily the best place in Albuquerque. In San Francisco I'd probably rate this 4.5 stars. This would be because of how many extremely busy cafe's there get their spices shipped to them from relatives in their respective home countries and their ingredients are fresher due to simply selling a much higher volume. This isn't a fancy restaurant, it's a cafeteria style place, which is in alignment with the fantastic (cheap) prices. There are lots of these types of places in New York, La, San Francisco, and Amsterdam. One note though: Not all "middle eastern" or "Mediterranean" places are the same. Each region and sometimes specific countries have their own version of individual dishes. While the basic components are usually same the spices/flavors/texture/garnish/etc. can all vary quite drastically. Hence Lebanese falafel can be very different from Greek, Israeli, and Palestinean. Even within a single country various geographic regions and even simply various families will often each have their own specific twist to these dishes. So don't be surprised if what you think of as a "good" or "authentic" falafel is different from what Yasmine's serves. read more

Oh man, I'm so torn on this. I ordered delivery yesterday and it was delicious! I had the hummus meat dish as well as the appetizer combo and some baklava. The falafel was great, not dry or crumbly, the baba ghanoush was tasty, the baklava was delicious! The pita tasted like those Hawaiian sweet rolls which was interesting but yummy. I had a little bit of everything so that I could have left overs for lunch the next day. Everything was fine, until it wasn't. I got horrible, horrible food poisoning about 3 hours later and I felt like I was dying. I feel like it had to be the meat since everything else was vegetarian. Anyway, it was a truly horrendous 4 hours of lying on my bathroom floor kind of wishing I would just die already so I could stop puking. The thing is, it really was super delicious; it's not like I had a bite and some funky red flag taste told me I'd be sorry later. I found Yasmine's cafe on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. You know when you are craving Mediterranean food, you don't want anything but the best. All that being said I grabbed a gyro from Yasmine's and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. The gyro was BIG and loaded with meat, I couldn't ask for anything more. The staff was polite and my order was fresh and cooked to order. Overall, I wanted to give Yasmine's a 4.5 and the only reason I wouldn't give them a solid FIVE is the meat was a little saltier than I like. Terrible customer service. I'm all about supporting local businesses; but these employees were just rude. A little girl about 12 years old rang us up after arguing with her brothers about who is going to ring us up. It was so weird and rude. The 3 brothers preparing food didn't step up, and when asked for utensils they stared blankly at us until one of them finally got us utensils. I get it, it's probably a family business and they're forced to work here but come on. This was the first establishment I came to in New Mexico and this is how I was treated? This is definitely a fun place to come in Albuquerque! The food and atmosphere are both great. Mad props for showing Arabic music videos. The music really helps to set the mood. I will never go back to the unorganized place. I gave them 3 chances since it's close to my office. -First time they forgot to put Meat in my sandwich since it was to go. I figured after I got to my office. -Second, I ordered by phone to pick it up and the food was cold and smells Third which was today I went in my lunch time and they forgot my fries and I asked for it when they brought me the food . I am so disappointed by the meal I received from Yasmin's today. I am trying to order from local restaurants in order to support them. I ordered a Gyro and spanakopita and baklava for dessert. I didn't get a Gyro I got a pile of cold yellow rice with dried up greasy pieces of meat and a pita on the side with a salad. It's horrible. It is not at all what I ever got before and it is not what I expected to get and I will never order from them again. What a disappointment. Also the spanakopita is over done on the bottom and greasy and the baklava piece is less then 2" x 2" at the most. All that for $22 which includes tax tip delivery etc. Yasmine's either get it together or unfortunately you may have to go under. No one is willing to tolerate poor food even in the middle of a pandemic. read more

One of my favorite places. I usually get a Santa Fe chicken or schwarma platter. The pita bread is perfect - very warm and soft, and the meat is delicious. The only negative I can think of is having to deal with flies buzzing around my food everytime I eat here (maybe it's a summer thing).
