I have been taking my Lincoln since 2012 and have always been satisfied for the most part - in the beginning you had great people working there who valued their work and had great customer service. Now it is night and day different. The people working there don't do their job right and they don't seem to care AT ALL. I had to remind the guy (Floyd) to do everything that was included in an oil change. I asked him if he checked all the fluids and with an attitude he said yeah but I didn't see him check anything other than walk around doing nothing. Then, I asked him if he had checked the tires and he quickly turned around mumbling something and went ahead and checked my tires. (Who knows if he did it right) He had really back gestures and his demeanor was intolerable. I had to remind him how to do his job. I WILL NOT BE TAKING MY CAR BACK TO THIS PLACE. Its so sad to let go but as a business owner my self, I know how important customer service is and if you don't train or hire the right people no matter if you have to go through 100 candidates then your business will fail. We go there for oil changes, tire patches, state/emissions inspections, etc. Their entire crew is friendly, and even taught my son how to check his oil between oil changes. They also offer a military/fire/police discount! During your service you'll also get a coupon for a free beverage in their convenience store, and you get a ticket for a free car wash at their sister store just down the hill. Their sign says they are open until 5:00 pm for Virginia Inspection. I arrived at 2:30 pm. I was told by the employee very angrily that it was his day off, he was only working to help out, and he was leaving, he also explained that he was the only person that does inspections and it was his day off. So why do the business have a big sign that says they are open until 5:00 pm for inspection, I move my schedule to fit their time, I asked. A second employee got enveloped telling me the what if. What if the employee got sick, then, what them? I asked for the manager, this employee told me the manager was not on site. Which it was not true. If you only have 1 employee that works Monday through Friday, and Saturday is his day off. Either hire another employee to work Saturday or change the sign. Simple. Do not waste people's time. I came in for a state inspection and oil change. They told me I needed rear brakes. I said how long? 2 hours they said. What they didn't tell until they got my wheels off and left my car up on a rack is that they didn't have the parts. The parts took and hour and a half to get there and then sat next to my car for 45 minutes before they even started. At any one time 1-2 mechanics were out smoking instead of working on vehicles. 4 hours and $800 later my car is done. And this was a work day. Went in for a state inspection and had a poor experience. Noticed that they serviced two vehicles in the same bay which struck me as odd. When it came time for my vehicle, they only had my car in the bay and raised the vehicle up. Initially, they failed me for state inspection due to a bad tie rod. Quoted me around $600 for only parts and labor of one inner tie rod. I asked for a written quote and was not given one despite asking them twice. Shopped around and found a shop that did inner and outer tie rods, alignment, and other repairs for the same price. I look young and inexperienced, which I believe may be why they quoted me so high for the repairs. In my opinion this shop offers adequate service for dealership pricing, which is not okay in my book. Only go here if you're certain your vehicle will pass inspection. If you have any shadow of a doubt, go to the dealership or your regular shop. I went back here a second time to get the vehicle reinspected after the repairs and they just shown a flashlight inside of the tire and told me to have a good day. No bringing my car to me, nothing. I figured it need a new spark plugs, but Brett, the manager of this excellent shop, diagnosed an ignition problem, as well as a broken piece on the engine mount that was causing the shaking. On 17 February, 2023 I visited the Yates Express Lube in Kingstown shopping plaza. I pulled up almost a quarter after 10 AM... there were two cars infront of me and they had pulled one into the garage. I waited patiently and asked one of the gentlemen how long it would be. He told me 15-20 mins for state inspections. I got back im my car and continue to wait while the employees played on their phones, carried on lengthy casual conversations, or had their hands in their pocket pacing around. After 20 more minutes, I got out of my car and approached the gentle that spent most of his talking instead of working. His name was Storm. He was very disrespect, curt, and condescending. I am a female and he was out of line by speaking to me so aggressively. He could have simply said it would be a few moments longer instead of calling me a liar. I left because I didn't appreciate his tone when speaking to me or lack of customer service. I will not be coming back and I will do my best to contact corporate. read more

So my beloved Roadbeast, a 1989 Crown Vic LX, failed to weather our most recent snow storm. I backed up over a jagged piece of ice which pierced my gas tank, and before I knew it, I was desperately searching for a place that wouldn't take advantage of my compromised situation. In the automotive repair world, there are so many thieves out there that the good ones have to be treasured. I had some dealings with Yates Express Lube in the past and knew that they would treat me fairly, so I drove across town to seek them out. My auto tech Megan, who was simply amazing, soon found the problem and confirmed that there was indeed a pinhole puncture in the tank. She assuaged my fears with a very reasonable quote and the guys at the shop stayed within the quote. At no time did I feel that I was being "put together" for a higher price. Megan and the other techs were in constant contact, as I check up on the Roadbeast regularly. They offered transportation to and from the shop, and confirmed that a shard of ice could have punctured my tank. It seems that some of my friends had their doubts on that matter: "There is no way that could happen." "Did you see Titanic?" "Yes, of course. I love that movie." "Well, Kate Winslet, if ice could bring down the Titanic, I'm sure it could scuttle the Roadbeast" So not only did I win the argument, I one the battle of the repair with Megan and Express Lube's help. I will most definitely return here for my Roadbeast repairs...just not too soon I hope. read more

I went in for a Safety Inspection. Thought I would try Yates Sunoco. As a lifelong Alexandria resident, I am in the Kingstowne area a lot, the station itself is very clean and it is always well maintained/landscaped and I know it a long time Alexandria business. I knew it would take some time with 4 cars in front of me, I even brought a book. The service team did not seem very efficient. Instead of getting cars in and out, there seemed to be a lot of standing /walking around, talking and drinking coffee. One car was pulled into the bay and sat for about 8 minutes before a service team member even started the inspection. The wait time definitely took longer than other places I have used. After my inspection I was told my car would not pass due to my windshield wipers. Which worked just fine the day before driving in a downpour storm. Needless to say I ok for them to be replaced, only to see they were in the process of replacing them. When I went to pay for the inspection and wiper installation, it was just shy of $100. The wipers that were installed were premium and roughly $70. ( Which I noticed this happened to another customer in another review.) I do feel I was taken advantage of and certainly would not have spent that much on wiper blades unless I needed to in order to pass inspection. I left with a bad feeling and not a business I feel supporting in the future. I will definitely be going back to my small local regular station. read more

Been here twice the past couple of months and I must say, you get what you pay for and they are fast! Came here originally for emissions inspection and like many places, you come to a designated line. I came early, but a few others came earlier. However, they take care of business here. It might not be flashy or nationally known, but the line moves pretty fast (about 15-20 minutes per car at the most). They don't have much of a waiting area, but I actually take it as a plus. Obviously, you can go inside the gas station portion and look around, but when they see you standing outside waiting for your car, they know you mean business. The second time I came here was for an oil change. This is where I really like it. It comes down to what your time is worth. Are they the cheapest place in town for a standard oil change? No! Are they the fastest? Possibly yes! I really like their system. You never get out of your car. Think of it like a car wash. You get in line and you drive your own car over the oil change area. They pop the hood, change the oil, the filter, and check your basic stuff. They do suggest you change your transmission and all that other stuff, but who doesn't? What they don't do is try to act like if you don't change this stuff, your car will explode as soon as you drive off the lot. I was able to even ask the prices for some of the other stuff they suggested and they were really up front about it. But yeah, my time is worth a lot more than saving $5-10 at other places and the fact I went up the street earlier this year and waiting over 2 hours for an oil change vs. 15 minutes here (yeah I timed it, and that includes paying too), it's a no brainer! A bonus is the free car wash across the street with every service here. read more

The dealership would never , ever charge that much. they are also up sell vultures. They will call you 3 minutes after You take your car to say something is wrong with it. Yates was my go-to service station... Not anymore! I frequented them for gas tank fill-ups, car washes, and even my annual inspections. However, this past week has made me think twice. My car unfortunately didn't pass the yearly safety inspection and needed new front tires and windshield wipers. I let the attendant know I would be purchasing both elsewhere and assumed he would give me the 'rejection' sticker and I'd be on my way. I went to check out and the total was "$77"... In shock I replied, "$77 for a safety inspection?!" and the attendant responded, "oh, no that's the safety inspection plus the windshield wipers. We went ahead and put those on there for you." Obviously I told them to take them off because nobody in their right mind would pay almost $50 for a pair of windshield wipers (and, I had already told him I didn't want them). The whole thing felt dishonest. Well, I got the tires and wipers on today (elsewhere) and went back down to Yates to have them reinspect and pass my vehicle. The sign says they close at 5pm. I pulled up at 4:48pm and the attendant came out and told me they had already closed the inspection station and that I needed to come back. I kindly reminded him it was 15 minutes to 5 (not like I was showing up at 5:01pm) and he blew me off, again telling me I'd have to come back. I get it... Everyone wants to do their job and go home. But if that's the case, then maybe you should change your hours from 8-5pm to 8-4:45pm... Sorry, Yates. You've lost my business. read more

Used to love this place even though it was overpriced. They offered speed, the comfort of using a local staple and perks for using their services. The last three times I have been there for something they have tried to up sell me with the "can only do this or can't help you" statement. One time I did it, the other two times I visited somewhere else and was easily provided the service I was looking for before the upsell. Not sure what has changed but they used to be very customer oriented and friendly and I highly recommended. That is not the case anymore and I doubt I will return for any reason. As a mechanic for over 20 years, I have to say that this place is a great example of a bad shop. My niece recently purchased a van from the auction in Va. I help her pick it out, knowing that we didn't know what condition it was going to be in. As a mechanic I knew that and explained that to my niece. After purchasing it, I told her to take it to a shop and have the oil changed and state inspection done. I work in MD and I'm a state inspector, but I can't do a VA inspection. She took it here, cause that's where she has been taking her other vehicle. Funny thing, while she was there; she called me to say that they can not do the inspection because of the rejection sticker that was in the window. They didn't know what it originally failed for. I told them that it was an auction vehicle, and that is how we got it. I said either way, do the safety inspection. He goes on to tell me that she should get a pre purchase inspection cause there could me more wrong with the vehicle; that these vehicles have transmission issues. I told him that I understood that, cause I'm a mechanic; what does that have to do with the safety inspection. After going back and forth with whoever the guy was, I finally told her to take the vehicle after they finish the oil change; and take it to my pervious place of employment in VA to do the inspection. While she was at this shop, my friend who still works there calls me to tell me that the drain plug is stripped and is actively leaking oil; mined you Yates just did the oil change 2 hours ago. He took at picture and sent it to me. First thing i notice was an aftermarket drain plug, and I saw the leak. I told her to go back to Yates to find out what's going on. She returned with my sister and spoke to Simon, I guess he is the manager. My sister called me on speaker phone while speaking with Simon, and he said the drain plug was stripped. The first thing I asked was, why is there a new drain plug in the oil pan? He said the oil pan was stripped and they put it in. Then I asked, why didn't you notify her before she left the shop? They never said anything to her before or after the oil change was done; RED FLAG!!!! Didn't even mark it on her ticket. At this point Simon says they are not responsible for the pan because the vehicle was an auction vehicle and it was the first time they have touched the vehicle, which doesn't make sense. Simon goes on to say that that's why they suggested the pre purchase inspection, which doesn't make sense either. And after all of that, had my sister go and buy a universal drain plug. Plus never checked tire pressure or reset the oil change light. I'm hoping that all this didn't happened because we refused to do a pre purchase inspection, or the fact that I got involved. I have heard of horror stories of mechanics going things to people vehicles because they refuse service. If this place is having a hard time doing oil changes, then I'm pretty sure they can't handle doing an oil pan; I wouldn't trust them to touch my niece's vehicle ever again. I told her to never take her vehicles back to them, even though she has using them for minor services. This is a bad shop, point blank period!!!!!! If it's store policy to not be liable for any damage to a vehicle because it's an auction vehicle, then don't refuse service. read more

I am so impressed with the team at this location... the manager is professional and patient. The gentleman here were respectful and very accommodating. I found myself with a flat tire... which I changed on the side of the road but ended up losing my wheel lock. When i got to Yates, then gentleman there were very understanding of my situation and were able assist me. They advised me to buy new wheel locks, which I do. They were able to change the tire and switch out all my wheel locks .... seems simple enough.. but they did it without cost. Thank you Rodney, for changing the tire and all the wheel locks. Now, that's just this occasion, this team has repaired a flat tire for me done my yearly inspections in the past. They are always the same.. accommodating, respectful, and professional... and you know that feeling when you've been ripped off... I don't get that when I leave these guys. I would like to give 5 stars for state inspection. It was a Christmas eve day, and many places were closed for inspection, and of coarse I waited to the last days of the month. But Yates were doing inspection and did do it within 10 minutes! Also I've got a free car wash coupon for a car wash across the street, that was just as match as I payed for state inspection!
