Pleasant Surprise Precious likes her Cuban food and her mojitos. And she only likes the best. Whenever we're in Miami, we have to go to Versailles. So I was worried when mom suggested we go to this place. The place is located in the parking lot of what is probably an abandoned supermarket turned into a flea market. The parking lot is not very well maintained with weeds pushing their way through the asphalt. The decor of the place is underwhelming. It's just a place. There's nothing fancy. Some places might have pictures of old Chevys on the wall or a mural on the wall of Old Habana. But this place is not decorated very much. But none of that matters because the food and the mojitos are awesome. Precious got her roast pork which she always gets, and she loved it mentioning that it didn't have a lot of fat on it. I got a sampler plate with roast pork, ropa vieja and something else, and they were very good. As sides I got yellow rice and maduros, and they were both excellent. The serving sizes are very big, and I couldn't finish, and both mom and Precious requested doggie bags. The mojitos were good too. Precious loved her mojito so much she ordered another. Just out of curiosity we inquired about the cooks. Their names were Larry, David and Gina. We thought that was funny because at almost every restaurant in our hometown the cooks are Latinos. Easy to find. David wait staff was attentive. Large portions at fair prices. Bread at the beginning was tasty. Probably didn't need the butter with chopped peppers. It needed more of a zip. I had pulled pork it was cooked perfectly. Simple taste. Maybe I could have added hot sauce. My friend got the meat with spices and tomatoes he was very happy. A friend's recommendation steered me to this lovely restaurant and I could not be more grateful for the tip. The interior is large and nicely designed with dark wood floors, artwork celebrating Ybor City's world famous cigar industry and interesting historical photos throughout the dining room. A comfortable bar area overlooks the main dining room and is appealing enough to provide a relaxing setting for pre- or post-dinner drinks. The menu features the traditional Cuban fare that used to be more prevalent in Tampa but now seems to be primarily located in West Tampa and Ybor City. And the tastes are every bit as authentic as those offered at its Cuban counterparts. Prices are moderate, portions are generous and service is friendly and well paced. While this location is a little far from where I live, I would not entirely rule out a return visit. It is a casual restaurant but the overall feel is polished which makes it a good candidate for a place to take out-of-town guests or a good option for a night out with good friends, like those who guided me here. read more

Not sure what happened with the first, one star reviewers experience but mine was stellar. Fastest service I've ever, ever had at any restaurant. Ingredients in my salad were fresh, the meat perfectly seasoned. My hubby had the stuffed potato ball and black brand with yellow rice, which was also spot on. I'm from Puerto Rico and this place gets my seal of approval. I like the new digs (a renovated bank) much better than the old place. The original hardwood floors with brass nails, plus the black and white pics and wall art made of coat boxes, brings a touch of rustic to the otherwise modern building. I had the WORST experience at Ybor Grille tonight. This place is not authentic Cuban food at all. The beginning of our bad experience started with service. The waitress was terrible, took forever to get our drinks, and kept talking over me. We waited on waters for 20 minutes because "someone else was sat at the same time as us". My mom ordered a martini, and she had to come back twice first because they were out of two types of vodka, and second because the glass was chipped. The server disappeared so I had to bring it back to the bar to reorder it. I understand that glasses can get chipped...that happens, but twice she brought it with olives instead of a lime twist. Whatever, simple directions are hard sometimes. We still waited on water after that fiasco for a very long time. We asked three different times for it, and for bread. Finally we got the waters and bread, shortly after our food followed. I had ordered palomilla and my grandmother ordered palomilla sandwich. My steak came without onions and looked like it was boiled. I asked why there weren't any onions on it like it said on the menu, and with a bewildered look the waitress said oh what kind do you want? I also asked for chimichurri, she had no idea what that was either. I thought I was eating at a Cuban restaurant...they didn't have any after I explained to her what it was and she asked. I took one bite of the less than appetizing steak and felt like I was biting into a cross between jerky and dog food. The taste was bland and mealy and terrible at the same time and it was very tough. My grandmother said she felt like she was biting into leather. We asked to speak to the manager. Brian, the manager came over, and with a look of bewilderment couldn't believe that we didn't like the steaks. I really wanted to say, you would serve someone this?!?! It looked terrible. I should've taken a picture. I wouldn't have served it to my dog. After having to explain why the food tasted like crap he nicely offered to get us something else. There was already a bad taste in my mouth and there wasn't any coming back. They did take the meals off, but I'm still hungry and I will never go back there and even attempt to give them my money. Little Habana Cafe (isn't open on Sundays) is the only good Cuban restaurant around, and I will gladly drive there to get my Cuban food fix. Pass this place up if you want to avoid disappointment. *Edit: the owner wrote me back on FB telling me he'd address the situation. Then proceeded to tell me chimichurri isn't authentically Cuban, that it's Argentinian. Ok Wikipedia master, you serve spaghetti and Greek food for specials and instant mashed potatoes with meatloaf. My family and I just stopped here for lunch while on a trip to the area and it didn't disappoint! Everything we ordered was delicious! The lechon asado was AMAZING, so well seasoned and tender. The service was something else. Our waitress was so sweet and made us a Puerto Rican dipping sauce even though she had no clue what it was. 11/10 would recommend! read more

Fresh food, nice atmosphere, great service! Roast pork is nice and tender! I had the roast pork bowl with rice and black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, potato sticks and plantains with a garlic aioli. My son ravaged his Cuban sandwich made with fresh bread, fresh cold cuts, delish. We shared the bread pudding which has guava and peaches, TRY IT you'll LOVE IT! The service was the clincher for us. Ybor grille is an old standby of mine here in ruskin. Granted, that's not saying very much considering the area, but it's true. The atmosphere has become a bit more refined with the new location, almost romantic, but I still feel comfortable bringing my toddler. Portions are generous- I always bring a bag home. In truth, I come here for one meal and one meal only: the ropa vieja with FRIED yucca. This meal never disappoints. Always satisfying and comforting, one of those childhood-memory-triggering meals. Kinda funny how a cuban meal can do that for an Irish Jersey girl... Every time I bring someone here, I let them sample my plate. Every time they say "next time, I'm getting what you had". Excellent service and food! I recommend trying this place. It's cute and casual. You can get salads, sandwiches or big meals. I had chicken Rioja and it was perfect. Very filling and I couldn't finish what I had, the bun on the sandwich was so fresh. My husband had the meatloaf and loved it, it had chorizo inside it too. Yummmm! What an excellent find. We decided to eat dinner here based on Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. It was busy but we were seated quickly as all personnel hustle to get tables ready as parties leave. Our server Vickie was excellent and very attentive. Her recommendations for wine, entrees, and dessert were spot on which helped to create a wonderful evening. My wife had the chicken over rice and I had the meatloaf. Take your own butter!  Seriously, this place changed us 50 cents when we ordered extra butter!  Regular butter not the flavored kind!  Four of us had a side of mashed potatoes.  They were plain, no gravy.  We needed butter to put on them! When we questioned the waiter about the charge he exclaimed, absolutely!
