been wanting to come here for years, but i kind of forget that the restaurant is there, know what i mean? well, we finally got to eat at the ybor grille...... came in a bit earlier to take advantage of their happy hour (saw it on their website). drink of the day was a blood orange margarita. good, a bit sweet but good......bartender was really friendly, but does like to disappear into the back with her phone. we did have to wait in between drinks for them to return out front to the bar..... sat in the dining room for dinner.....this place fills up early (they're only open until 9 pm). mostly older locals and some families. we both ordered the combo plate of meats - picadillo, ropa vieja & roast pork, served with your choice of 2 sides......the side dish choices are confusing. black beans ARE NOT listed in the sides selection on the menu. i asked the server why are black beans not offered as a side in a cuban restaurant.....she replied that the offer them, but it's their "soup" (but its not really a soup, just saucy black beans), but still not listed as a side option, so, if you don't ask, you don't get them! SO, i ordered the yellow rice to be topped with black beans, the other sides ordered were a cup of black beans and a side of sauteed cabbage. THE PICADILLO IS AMAZING.....next time we come here, i'm just ordering a plate of that! not to say that the other meats were not good, its just that the picadillo stood out as the star. service is friendly, efficient and quick...the food comes out of the kitchen really fast........ the staff is all really friendly and eager to help & serve.....feels like a family owned joint..... we'd return........ read more

I have been to this restaurant about 4-5x and I try something new and have yet to be disappointed. The wait-staff have always been very pleasant and accommodating (especially towards my picky 7 year old). The inside is very nice, clean and comfortable. I definitely recommend the food here! Best choices so far have been the salad, Cuban sandwich, black beans and rice, the fish as well was amazing (forgot the proper name of it)... I have yet to make it to dessert as the food has always been very filling! read more

Was not the authentic Cuban we were expecting. Our server seemed very uninterested and was not very knowledgeable of the menu. The large salad we ordered was much smaller then made out to be, barely enough for one person to have as a side, and was $12. The restrooms appeared unkept and the floor was dirty. Very sad and disappointing that the Ybor gumbo isn't a soup anymore. Truly my favorite and best soup of the day they've ever had. Soups lately have been disappointing and don't even correspond with the cuban theme. The clam chowder, and chicken noodle soup make me feel like I'm eating at a Cracker Barrel. read more

Our first visit and we'll be back. Marisol our server was terrific. The food was great as we'd heard it was. Pappa's meatloaf, generous portions and fantastic. We had a great service the first time we ate there (Sunday August 26th, our group sat in the back room). I wanted to set up another reservation and Unfortunately Cindy was incredibly rude and disrespectful. I asked how many people can they accommodate. She then turns to the manager and makes crude comments. She must have obviously forgotten that she did not put me on hold. I can only imagine how she speaks about other customers. She tried apologizing saying she was having a bad day. How bad a day can you have when your location had only been open for 3 minutes at the time of my called. This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere with indoor seating as well as screened in outdoor seating, all non-smoking. The staff was pleasant and very attentive. Prices are very reasonable when considering the ample portions and good quality. Food choices include seafood, pork, beef and others. Plenty of soups, appetizers, salads and sides. We had a wonderful meal tonight at Ybor Grill. Ive been coming to the Ruskin area for over a decade visiting family and somehow this gem didn't make it on our list of places to eat. It is now at the top of the list. I had Lechon Asado (Cuban roast pork) and my wife had Rosa Viejo. Both were outstanding. We had the garlic mashed potatoes. Plantains, and Spanish green beans as sides. Very generous portions and very reasonable prices. We also had Mojitos, which I would rank about the best Ive had. The staff was very friendly, and no wait for a table on Saturday evening at 7:15. Overall A+. We will be back! read more

I was down in Ruskin visiting some friends and we stopped in here. Around 7:15 about a 20 min wait, so we waited at the bar. We each had a cocktail and they were delicious. The bartender also offered us bread while we waited. Super cool people! After we were seated, we got the deviled crab (yum!) and we all ordered the 7th Ave filet with salad and mashed potatoes. Sounds pretty basic, right? It was DELICIOUS!!!! None of us could believe how good the salad, salad dressing (cremier, balsamic blue cheese), steaks, and bread were. Just amazing! I am new to Apollo Beach and my major complaint about this area is, there is no where to eat. Then a neighbor said, Ybor Grill is a must go to. I am soooooo thankful he told me about this place. It's by far one of the best restaurants I've been to since I moved to Florida. read more

I really enjoy this restaurant. I work in Ybor City, so folks often ask me where the best Cuban food in Ybor is--I tell them Ruskin! The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is pretty nice for a rural area of south Hillsborough. Took my dad here for Father's Day, along with my nephew. We were seated quickly and the server was prompt, friendly, and courteous. We ordered a basket of mini deviled crabs, which came out hot and tasty! They didn't last long! I had the lechon asado (Cuban roast pork) with plantains and yucca. They serve a very generous portion of pork in mojo which I really shouldn't have eaten all of, but it's so good I couldn't stop! The plantains are served sweet (I know them as maduros), just like I like them, and they make a great pair with the garlic and tangy orange mojo of the pork. My dad had a salad and the soup of the day, which he raved over. They also serve Cuban bread and butter mashed with olives, which I can't seem to resist either. The owner came by and checked on us to be sure we were happy, which we definitely were. Since none of us had room for dessert, we topped the meal off with cafe con leche, which I could sip on all day. Too bad, as they had tres leches, which I love. I'll have to go back to try it sometime. read more

Great Cuban food! Quick service, full bar, friendly people. Fresh Cuban bread with good butter. They have both sandwiches or full dinner plates so it's great for lunch or dinner. Tip: the house creamy herb sauce is a great dipping sauce, especially for the house chips. Hidden gem! read more

A bit far from where I live but worth the drive. Excellent Cuban good and huge portions. If it wasn't for location this place would be packed all day every day. Nice bar area with outside dining. We really love this restaurant. The new location is much nicer. My husband and daughter love the filet, and they have a leg up on La Septima, as they do not prepare the filet that way any longer. We had a little mishap with a spilled drink on one of our guests, but they handled it very nicely and were very attentive. Accidents happen, and it was okay and nice of them to show care. This is my second visit to the Yabor City Grille. My first visit was fantastic and I wanted to see if they would meet my high expectations. Well they beat them! From our Homemade Sangria, to my Cuban Roast Pork w/Spanish Rice and Black Beans everything was beyond excellent. My wife, the vegetarian, had a Bowl without any of the meat and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection with an abundance of fresh vegetables. The wait staff was great and was always there to fill our glass, deliver fresh Cuban Bread, and checking that our orders were good and if we needed anything. Ruskin is a little out of the way, but this place is Well worth the drive. Check it out soon! read more

Recently (within last 3 months) realized they had moved down the street. The previous location did not have much curb appeal. The new (er) location is much much better. I went tonight to scout for a company dinner. A bit disappointed in the service. The food was ok, but not stellar. The customer doesn't seem to be important. Extra charge if you share and the Cuban coffee..well it isn't coffee. I guess I can't have a company function as they don't take Amex which happens to be my corporate card. I wonder how many customers they loose because they don't take Amex.... not a smart business decision! The place was almost empty tonight. Even the Taco Bus takes Amex. read more

This is a hidden gem. There are not many quality resturants in the area but this is one. The first time I went in I saw people who have lived in the area their entire life and I knew that was a good sign. We have eaten here several times since, and I have never had a bad meal or service both have been very good. Its officially a favorite of ours in this little town we live in. We don't go to many sit down restaurants and if we do we're really selecting the one we enjoy and this one is. The new location is nice and a little bit upscale from the previous location. I'm not sure what it is tho when you order mojitos they come under sweeten and very bland almost like water and alcohol, i can't say it's just them because this happen at many other spots around the bay area. Other drinks had here have been good and happy hour ordered. Food has always been spot on but not to die for. My wife always orders the ropa vieja, she says it reminds her of her grandfather's cooking. I've tried the steak and cuban sandwich and both times liked them. I took my parents here awhile back and they always are the hunt for a good cuban and they said this place was bad at all for that. The prices are a bit high and that's why it makes this place for us just a once in great while for us. If you go don't under dress or you get the stair down from the front desk and maybe leave the kiddos at the babysitters too... While visiting a friend in Sun City Center, we took her to her favorite area restaurant, Ybor. What a treat. It is off the beaten path, but the decor is quality and well done. The service was excellent-fast, efficient, and friendly. Now for the food. My wife and I had the special (merluzza-white fish-on a bed of varying veggies and black bean all of which was covered in sauces-variety unknown to us, but fantastic taste). Our friend had her usual (don't recall the dish) but she stated it was superb as usual. We will definitely return when once again back in the area. This is a place well worth finding. read more
