2.5 Things I like: the window / front seating, the welcoming staff, the shelf of fun espresso cups, and the fact that even on a Saturday noon, its not crowded. Thing I don't like: The matcha is not quality and tastes of the powdery feel of cheap matcha. The matcha yuzucano is far stronger on the side of yuzu to a point it almost tastes like a lemonade soda (I would love a stronger matcha taste here and a hint of yuzu). The canelé is a bit stale and in the place of a hard shell and soft interior is a spongey texture. I've been to a lot of coffee roasteries around LA, and this is the first time I've ever been charged sales tax on a bag of whole bean coffee. That really threw me off. I literally just grabbed a bag of whole beans, paid, and left--no drinks, no other items--and it took less than two minutes. Whole beans for home consumption are typically not taxed in California, so this felt incorrect. Please don't run your business this way--it comes across as misleading to customers. 1.5 The service is nice, the people are welcoming. The problem is this place is rated way too high. The matcha is definitely not high quality, it legit tastes like seaweed. In the matcha yuzucano, it just tastes like yuzu because the matcha is not good enough or strong enough. The dirty ube latte tastes like nothing as in it's not really strong enough on either sides. The Malibu latte is alright turns into this muddy green when mixed which is fine. The cheesecake is TOO expensive for something I could buy a whole of at Costco but it's good I guess. Stumbled upon this business while waiting in line for Liu's Cafe! It was the perfect pick-me-up I needed to get the day started. Definitely my top 5 coffee spots in Ktown! (Or Downtown LA) I just loveeee the taste of their coffee. Back when I first went here, I had their Malibu Latte. I can't find the photo but oh my, that was very interesting and refreshing. It had a hint of mild orange flavor with the right amount of caffeine. My go-to is 6xs Mello. I could drink 10 of these in a day, but that would be dangerous. That foam on top, with the right amount of sweetness and caramel flavor, and their beans... their BEANS. It's just perfect for it I would say! Next fave would be the Tower Cold Brew. This is perfect for anyone trying to avoid any sugar or milk in the morning but needs a good kick to wake up. I usually don't like cold brews because it gets a little sour and feels too acidic. This is just amazing, and I don't need to add anything else and I drink away like there's no tomorrow. I also order when I'm at work (when I don't wake up early enough to pass by the cafe) and usually I find great deals using ubereats, and get their 1+1 deal. I'd recommend this place especially for coffee lovers that love less sour tasting espresso. 10/10 It can be addictive so be careful read more

This is an adorable cafe near hope and 9th street in DTLA. The interior is cheery and adorable with a very good Feng shui esthetic. Bright colors, comfy chairs, cute trinkets lined up along the wall. If you're checking out Cafe Liu's next door, would definitely recommend coming here for your coffee while waiting in line for the Cafe. I love the vibe here as you walk in. It was the perfect decision because they have lemonade drinks such as the Ocean Ade and Ruby Ade that are comparable to Starbucks Refreshers but arguably better. I personally enjoyed the Ocean Ade over the Ruby Ade, it uses butterfly pea while the Ruby uses hibiscus. The matcha was also pretty good, the milk they used gave the drink some weight and slight creaminess and agave sweetener didn't overpower the matcha flavor. Also liked how this place was decorated. They used the have a furniture store down the block but I believe it's now moving to somewhere in DTLA. The girl taking our order was patient and helpful in providing recommendations. This spot was a bit small and was busy on a weekday afternoon, but there are a good amount of tables and seats with free wifi available. I've come to realize that I love coffee shops with little markets in them. 6XS has that and also a little seating area with magazines & pamphlets. The decor is so cute, and the coffee is even better. I got a greycano, which is one of their specialities of an americano topped with earl grey tea foam & dried cornflower. We got the matcha latte and Greycano (Earl grey) and even though I am new in drinking coffee based drinks surprisingly the Earl Grey is easy to drink due to the sweetness of the cream on top. My boyfriend really liked his matcha latte since it was a nice blend of sweetness and caffeine. Our waitress is nice enough to recommend us to add an extra shot of syrup to accommodate the bitterness of the Americano in the earl grey.
