Honestly this place is alright. I have read and heard a lot of negative stuff about this place and I can see that to an extent. However the atmosphere of the place is pleasant. The Pricing: Regarding the pricing, I don't think they should charge the same $11.99 the same price for the meat and veggies as most all similar places I have been to charge cheaper for veggies as opposed to meat. We ended up getting more meat to get more value. However, we ended up getting 2 bowls and we were surprised they don't charge for soup base which is a plus. Overall the price for 4 of us after tax and tip ended up around $60 which is kind of on par with places like this. The Flavor: Personally I'm not as big of a fan of using the soup base to flavor these kinds of foods because generally you don't get as much flavor as you do if it was a dry pot. The soup base itself was alright, however it didn't add as much flavor as I was hoping to the ingredients. I think overall this place is just alright. Yuck! I found a small fly in my soup. I told the manager but he did not seem to care and said they would change the soup base but would not replace the meat and veggies already cooked inside. WTF!! Cheap managers!! They refused to reimburse me and only offered a small discount because they said I already ate some of the food. This place is a rip off and Not much variety either. Yin tang- you need to learn better business practices and replace your cheap manager. There's so many other better hot pot restuarants. You're lucky I didn't report you to the health department. Tried a new hot pot place. This place is a lot different from other hot pot places I've been to. After you get seated at your table, you'll go over to the veggie/meat station where you pick what kind of ingredients you want in your hot pot. There's a variety of veggies, noodles, seafood, and meats to choose from. When you are done, they weigh your bowl to determine the price, and ask you what spice level you want. Then they cook it for you and bring it out to your table. The bowl is big!! I ended up taking my leftovers home. Mine ended up being 1.9 pounds when they weighed it. It's $11.99/lb so it can get a little pricey if you are loading up on alot of the heavy stuff like the meats. There is also a sauce station if you want to add any sauce to it after you get your bowl and taste it. There is soy sauce, hot sauce, garlic, etc at the sauce station. My good friend introduced me to Yin Tang and we have been coming back at least once a week! I love how you basically BYOB - build your own bowl of fresh veggies and meats! It's pretty self explanatory and you pay based on the weight of how much you load up on the bowl. You can choose regular or spicy broth and they take it back in the kitchen and basically cook it hot pot style for you and bring it out hot and ready! It's so delicious and perfect for cooler days. English is not the servers' first language, but don't let that deter you. It's pretty easy to order and ask for what you want! read more

A new spot for a different kind of hot pot experience! This is a "Ma La Tang" style. How does it work? As you enter the restaurant your party of x will be assigned a table. Then you grab a basket and put whatever ingredients you want in your bowl from a buffet-like bar. Hand this basket to one of the associates and they will weigh it, ask for a level of 'spiciness' and give you a number and a ticket that indicates the weight of your meal. Rather than bringing a large pot of broth to the table, they will take your ingredients back to the kitchen, cook it and bring it out to your table when ready to be consumed. Their broth is really solid. It tastes like creamy tonkatsu ramen broth. So if you typically enjoy creamy ramen broth, you will def enjoy this! I got medium spicy and it was a good balance, probably closer to a 'small' spicy. Note, this is not a buffet, but you will likely grab too much food the first time. For context, my comrades and I got 2.28, 2, and 1.9 lbs. It was way too much food for lunch tbh, but they do have to go containers if you need them. You may be wondering, why is this review a 4 star? Well, at $11.99 per lb, one can easily eat $25-30 without realizing it. Also, the sauce bar is way too basic and the sauces themselves were not good, not to mention there's no labels at all. I have been to both Carrollton and Plano's locations multiple times. Here are the pros and cons. Pros 1. Yin Tang soup is tasty on both locations. 2. Carrollton's meat has less fat selections. 3. Carrollton's bowls are all the same size. Sufficient soup in the bowl. 4. Plano's chili oil in the soup is less oily. 5. Carrollton's suggested tips on its receipt are calculated before the taxes. Cons 1. You may have a quite oily (from chili oil) bowl if you order spicy/ hot soup in Carrollton's. 2. Plano location will give you smaller bowls if your order is less than 1 lb. Even their bigger bowls, quite frequently, don't have enough soup. 3. I picked almost the same vegetables, noodle, and meats on both locations, but my food's weights were always heavier at Plano location. 4. Plano location's suggested tips are calculated after taxes which is not correct/ appropriate. read more

They weigh by the pound regardless of what you get, 1 lb is $11.99 so for people that eat a lot this might be expensive but for me it's perfect because I can get everything I want for around $10. The bowl itself is quite a large portion and they have a wide variety of meat, veggies, rice cake, and noodles to choose from so there's a little bit of everything for everyone. The soup itself is also quite tasty, it's very creamy and you can also choose your spice level. I think it's definitely worth a visit for a pretty affordable price. Came here because my friend highly recommended it. I love that you can pick exactly what you want for them to cook - they had a ton of veggies as well as meat options. We got a ton of cabbage, mushrooms, potatoes, tofu, and lotus roots because that's our favorite and we're trying to eat less red meat. We did add some fish balls, duck blood, and one piece of spam to try. Basically when you're done they weigh your ingredients and give you your number. We got some lamb skewers to try - it was $5 for 5 and full of cumin flavors which we loved. You also make your own dipping sauce with the ingredients they offer which included sesame paste, soy sauce, vinegar, etc. We got a mild spicy broth and a medium spicy broth. Medium was decently spicy. The base broth was a bond broth which was hearty but not too flavorful which is fine given we're trying to be healthy. The concept is simple - pick the veggies, carbs, meats you want - weigh it, and they'll cook it for you in rich broths of varying levels of spice! The price is a flat $11.99/lb regardless of what you throw into your bowl. I can see this being pricier if you aren't a heavy meat eater, but for me - I mainly get the lamb / fatty beef / black fungus, so I am always more than happy with the price (and I eat quite a lot). The soup is literally the best soup I've ever had but go to the carrollton location instead. The server lady is super nice and charismatic but the guy is so rude. He might just hate me for some reason but always has a blank face and just drops off my bowl without saying anything. AND HE ALWAYS GIVES ME A SMALL BOWL. I never get a large bowl with him. The Ma La soup/ broth is lovely. The best part is the variety of condiments they lay out for customers to help themselves ( green onions, minced garlic and ginger, cilantros, lots of different chilies and spices and sauces) . Yes the soup tastes alright as we have no competition in Dallas when it comes to legit malatang, but does that mean this place is any good? Hell no. They charge $11.99/LB in SoCal, yet they're charging the same in DFW. Yesterday my daughter and her boyfriend treated me to dinner - it was a positive and interesting experience. You pick up a large bowl and tongs and start selecting from a huge veriety; veggies, fish, different types of tofu, meats, noodles. There are items I haven't seen at other hot pot places such as sausage, spam, and organ meats . You can select as little or as much as you like, since they weigh your bowl. Pick a broth (or not) then make your sauce from the sauce bar while you're waiting for them to bring the food to the table. They charge by the pound, so heavier items can really push up the cost. The mild broth I picked was very flavorful. I was concerned about the taste of mixing fish, beef, sausage and spam in the same bowl but no problem. I liked the hand-pulled noodles I picked but since I eat slowly they started to get soft towards the end of my meal from sitting in the broth the whole time, and the fish I selected shrunk very small (but still good) so it's a good thing I had lots of other protein. The one item I didn't like was the fish ball - after biting inside there was a super goopy filling that was oddly sweet. The restaurant is very clean and the staff was attentive. My daughter and I had a lot of leftovers so we requested containers for our broth, sauce, and the food left in our bowls. I highly recommend Yin Tang but it's a good thing I was able to take home my leftovers; despite trying to be selective my raw bowl weighed over 2 pounds! read more
