More like 3.5/5 stars. First time checking out the new Plano location of Kirin Court. It was good, but personally I still prefer the original Richardson spot. The dim sum was fine and it's nice that you can get it any day of the week, which makes it a convenient option. Not sure if the space is larger than Richardson but it was more spacious and tables were spaced out a bit more. Definitely worth checking out if you're curious about the new location. Pro tip for either locations: make reservations in advance especially on the weekends, otherwise you'll be standing around for awhile. read more

I feel as if I must have ordered the wrong items, I was expecting better food and service based on the recommendations of others. We ordered the fried rice, soup dumplings, panfried dumplings, glutinous pork dumpling, and green pepper with shrimp paste. The fried rice and soup dumplings were bland. The glutenous pork dumplings were light on pork. The panfried dumplings and green pepper with shrimp paste were pretty good. The real issue here is the service. Our small order took about an hour to come to our table, with dishes coming one at a time every 10-ish minutes. All while the restaurant was only halfway full. My bf and I visited in on a Friday night date, and we have never been to a Kirin Court location before, but are regular dim sum enjoyers. It wasn't too busy, and we got seated immediately. We ordered ~5 items, items that, for the most part, we get every time we go to a dim sum place. I just have to say it: this is pretty much the worst food quality dim sum I've had in the area. All the food was bland, room temperature, and took ages to come out. Our last dish took over an hour. After we ordered, waitstaff was also generally inattentive, only showing up to refill water. We have many other favorites in the area that are better for $60+, namely Zhang's Kitchen. I do not have an interest in returning. read more

I've been coming to Kirin court for 16+ years for dim sum and the quality has not changed. I've come to the new location a couple times for brunch dim sum, but this is the first time we came for dinner. For the 20th anniversary, they are doing a lobster and crab special so we got the crab for dinner. It was so delicious! If you catch this special, do not miss it. It does take a while to prepare, so plan for a longer dinner. We will be back soon for the lobster. read more

First visit since Kirin Court acquired this place. Big open dining space with beautiful decor that was also acquired from the previous tenant. We came here early and was seated right away. I would have loved to give it another star but most of the items we always liked ordering from the carts weren't available and the servers kept saying "later". We let it go and just got some of the dishes we like. The "later" comment didn't really leave a good impression. I was hoping that if they want to open at 10am that carts dimsum items should be fully available and you shouldn't be waiting that long. Kirin Court is The OG Dallas dim sum spot This new location is just as good, maybe even nicer. Reminds me of Ocean Palace in Houston Loved that you can call ahead to reserve! Our family of 8 was able to be seated promptly after arrival. Definitely a huge plus as wait times can be crazy depending when you go to either location Dim sum is always solid. I recommend the baked pork buns, lo mai gai, har gow, egg tarts, and shu mai. Lots of reviews complaining of the service. Went at 1pm on new years day. Super busy as expected for a holiday. The wait time for a party of 4 was 45 min but we waited closer to 55 min. They use a number system and call up parties with a microphone/ speaker system that unfortunately isn't very good if you're waiting outside. I understand that this is simple and cheap... but would greatly benefit from a pager system imo. They prioritize seating large parties which is understandable. But by the time we were seated there wasn't much variety of dim sum options left. Most of the carts that came by were items that we already had. And some of the dishes were cold. It also took some time for us to get plates and utensils as they were out and waiting for them to be cleaned. After a few rounds of the carts coming by with nothing new, we decided just to leave. Kinda disappointed with waiting for so long for subpar service and options. My family and I visited for lunch today at 1pm. The wait was 45 mins long and everyone stood in the lobby packed like sardines. It was hard to hear the girl calling out numbers ( everyone is given a number card). I would suggest using a mic...or maybe she had one but she spoke so low, might as well whisper bc can't hear what she's saying. The good: clean bathrooms, easy parking, spacious restaurant The bad: our server was terrible, we had to wave him over constantly. He talked way too fast and ignored what we needed. No water refill unless you wave him down, no straws or extra chopsticks until we waved him down. It took 15 mins to get a freaking straw. I noticed the table next to us had better attentive service. Guess we just got stuck with a crappy one. More bad: dim sum was so-so, we've had better, towel dispenser in bathroom doesn't work, carts don't make their rounds all the way around. We had to walk up to two diff carts and then they came over. Asked for more chili oil, it never came so my husband had to get from an empty table. Asked for new water bc my sister's had something floating in it... took another 20 mins to get that. Honestly, the service and food were better at their first location. Think in Richardson. Only downfall to that location is its dirty and parking sucked. Most likely we won't be back. There are plenty of other places for dim sum. Very authentic dim sum spot! We went on Christmas morning and it was super busy but the line was fast and efficient. They have OG dishes like -tripe -shrimp rice rolls -bbq buns and pineapple buns (you can tell it's homemade) -roast pork Soo good! So happy we finally got an authentic dim sum spot!! read more

Went to try their weekday dimsum lunch. Not busy when we had lunch. There are only two carts roaming around. They serve Dimsum only during lunch hours. The fried shrimp balls were bland, can't taste the shrimp. I think it was leftover and re-fry from the previous day. The price of food from those carts are cheaper than the cost of food that you order from their kitchen. Nothing special as compared from their Richardson, TX place. They plan to have a food court counter soon, as per cashier that we spoke to. Kirin took over China Pearl over about a month ago. Friendly serving staff. Clean and nicely decorated place. Dang there's some haters out there drinking hatorade. This Kirin court location is fire!! It's bigger, cleaner, the food came out hot and fresh, I didn't have to wait an hour like the other location, and the staff were so nice!! I do think they need to hire not staff for push carts because we were waiting around a long time for rice rolls and shu mai. Maybe also need more staff for the kitchen bc they were slacking on shu mai but other than that, this location is solid!! read more

Visited Kirin court once again and had an amazing time. Came at 11:30 and was already getting busy. However, the service and management was great as always. Tried the baked bbq pork bun for the first time here and it was AMAZINGGG. The shumai here is always a must get for me here, and will always be my favorite! read more

I always went to their Richardson location for dim sum. I was happy that they opened one near me, but this location was a disappointment. My family and I went here for dinner. We were seated immediately since the restaurant wasn't crowded yet. I was disappointed that this location didn't have all the dim sum items like the steamed pork bbq buns, which my brothers were looking forward too. We did placed our usual dim sum order of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shrimp & pork dumplings (shumai), shrimp fun rolls, & fried taro balls. My parents ordered the wonton soup & crispy bbq pork fried rice. The food & service was disappointing. We thought that since we're here during dinner time, all the dim sum was gonna be fresh & made to order. Most of them came out room temperature & cold. The only one that came out hot was the shumai. We ordered 3 shrimp fun rolls & they first only brought out 1. Mostly everything was coming one by one. I don't understand why they couldn't bring out all the dim sum all at once. The wonton soup looked unappetizing, the broth was cloudy & starchy. The fried rice was bland. The servers barely checked up on our table. When one of the waiters refilled our waters, he spill a little onto our food. Then, when it was time to pay for our bill one of the waiter was hovering over my parents as they were looking at the check & refusing to leave when I told him to give us some time because my parents was gonna pay cash. The restaurant was busy during this time, so he could've continued serving other tables & come back to get the check when we were ready. It just felt really awkward him standing there waiting for us to pay. Also, since he was standing there, we didn't inspect the bill clearly & didn't realize until we got home that we were charged for the deep fried shrimp balls & didn't get it. Service was fast and friendly. They don't really stop at each table so if they are close to you, flag them down. The new location is beautifully modern. Although it's tucked a bit deep inside, the large, tall signage makes it easy to spot. Service here is slightly better than at the Richardson branch. We ordered our usual dim sum--most dishes were good, except for the xiao long bao. The wrappers were too thick and the soup inside had already dried out. So glad to have another location of Kirin Court which should hopefully ease the congestion at the original location. One should note that the Plano location is still operating under "soft opening" mode so they are still working some kinks out but we had a very positive experience today. Wait was around 20mins or so for a party of 3 and the waitlist process was very simple and easy to follow. There wasn't as many carts as we are used to seeing in the original location so we had to wait a bit for certain items but when they did come out the food was incredibly fresh and tasty. Also very happy to have discovered a new dish which is tofu skin wrapped over ground pork - so delicious that we ordered two! We'll definitely be back !! read more

Decor is nice .. newly renovated place. We went for thanksgiving lunch, long lines. There was only 3-4 push carts for the big dining hall. Had to wait a long time for food Old location is better , more food. Here there's no bubble waffle , flowing lava bun, tou fu hua. Very disappointing. Old location has a stationary food bar which you can just go and directly order and get food. Here there's none .. sad The guy whom I placed order with... he's East Asian , I'm East Asian and still have problems communicating. I went to the soft opening. As one would expect for any restaurant on the first day...they were unprepared. Their dim sum was sold out before 6PM. They forgot our order until we had to remind them 45 mins later. Hopefully, they can sort this out going forward. The menu prices were $6 more than the average restaurant. Menu was quite extensive beyond dim sum. The cooking was done well for the food we ordered. I would recommend the moosu pork with buns. I wouldn't recommend the hot and sour soup, it came out bland. Not enough vinegar. The black pepper beef came out sizzling and was quite the show. The taste was good. Could use more pepper. The ambiance was underwhelming because it reminded us of an event hall with bright lights. The Richardson location setting was better for a family outing. I do like the location as to the proximity and how central the restaurant is in Plano. For now, I will rate it on the food presentation and taste alone and not on the ambience and first day service. Finally had the opportunity to try the new location and we enjoyed it. It's a much larger space than the old one. Everything is new and clean. Service was great. We went to Kirin court for Tuesday lunch. There were 5 tables taken at the time. It is a new restaurant so it was clean and organized. They used the single use table sheet for all these tables so it doesn't feel dirty. Food is ok and not much special in taste. They do stuff lots more meat for dumpling/shumai/roll as compared to other restaurant I have tried so far. My least favorite dish is pork short ribs, which was kind of bland. I ended up not taking pics of short ribs afterward. read more

Great dim sum option in the area. We got here right when it opened so there was lots of seating left but it did get busier as time went by. Food was good. Service was good too. I did enjoy the noodles and curry fish balls that are off to the side served by someone. The only thing was our siu mai was quite pink in the middle so we got a new batch and it was the same. I'm not sure if it's usually that way but we didn't take the chance with eating it. Hopefully that will be different next time we go back. Otherwise a decent spot. Came with family (group of 5) on Christmas Day for dinner a little after 5PM and then three days later on a Sunday after church with a big group of 10 for dimsum around 11AM. Place was pretty packed both times, so I'm giving a bit of grace for some of the service lapses that occurred, but in the future I'll probably try to come during more off-peak hours and see if things have improved. On Christmas Day we were seated immediately but by the time we left there were parties waiting for tables. Our dinner took about 2 hours give or take, and most of that time was spent waiting. We ordered the Peking duck with three dishes (so including soup and another entree along with the Peking duck), two vegetable dishes, and the beef flat noodle. Our first dish (pea shoots sauteed with garlic) came out around 30 minutes after ordering and it was hot and fresh. Then we waited for about 20 more minutes for the Peking duck. My in-laws had come the first week this location was open and raved about the tableside carved duck, but because it was so busy on Christmas Day I believe they had to cut everything in the back and bring it out plated already. Both my BIL and MIL mentioned that the amount of duck served when we went together was about half of what they received the first time they ordered, and we never received the other two duck dishes despite waiting another half hour after our last dishes (stirfried green beans and the aforementioned beef flat noodles) came out. The green beans were a little crunchier than I like but the flavor was good; the flat noodles were excellent, not too oily, and the beef was super tender. Definitely would come back just to have that dish again. At the end of our first visit, we talked to a manager and asked them to just remove the 2 other duck dishes we ordered and they were apologetic enough to give us 2 duck racks to take home with us. We definitely appreciated the gesture. Sunday dimsum was fun with all the carts being pushed around, though several staple dimsum items (that are listed on the current menu) were not circulating, such as the beancurd wrapped pork rolls, the charsiu fun rolls, pork and century egg congee, and the shrimp-stuffed eggplant. I also didn't see the custard or egg yolk buns at all, but it could be that I missed them in the rush. Most everything we tried was pretty good, but the spare ribs we got at the beginning were noticeably pink and raw in the middle, probably because it was so busy they were trying to push new dishes out quickly. The same manager who helped us on Christmas Day came over to take away the unfinished dishes, but again it was so busy that we had to flag down one of the other employees to give us replacement spare ribs. Given that this location has still only been open for a little over a month, I definitely hope that service will continue to improve over time and as the rush of people stabilizes a bit. It's a more convenient location for us than the original in Richardson, so I'm sure we'll be back soon. read more

For some reason food seems to taste better there. We love the rice rolls, char siu bao, and shrimp balls. I really wanted to love the new Kirin Court in Plano, especially since the Richardson location is such a classic, but this one is not quite there yet. The space itself is bright, clean, and pretty, so ambiance gets a win, but the food and service need serious polishing. Unlike Richardson, there was no walk up section for select dishes, which took away some of the fun and variety. The carts that came by had mostly lukewarm or cold items, and the soup dumplings were the biggest disappointment. They looked dry and wrinkled, and there was basically no soup inside at all. Service was also rough. We felt pretty ignored and had to get up several times to flag down carts ourselves, which kills the relaxed dim sum vibe. Overall, you can see the potential and the bones of a great spot, but right now it feels like an unfinished version of what it could be. I am rooting for it, but it needs big improvements in food quality and attentiveness before I would choose it over the original. read more

Disaster!! These folks are totally unprepared. Showed up first thing to place a takeout order, since they literally won't answer the phone (watched it ring and ignored the whole time we waited). Waited an hour and twenty minutes and then was told they were out of food and could not complete the order. From what we could gather, they were drastically understaffed and were literally calling 'family' to come work. For an established restaurant, this was very poor planning.
