We're back up to 5 stars. I ate in for the first time since patronizing this place. Service is quick & friendly. She recognized me from all my to-go orders. The food was sooo good, I decided to order extra for my potluck event on Christmas. They were great with the timing, too. I paid for my additional food the day before and they had it all ready for me right as they opened on Christmas. She did confirm that they could do it, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. Yin's Chinese Restaurant off Indian School is exactly the kind of local Chinese takeout spot you hope to find. You can tell they focus more on takeout than the dining room, but that didn't take away from the experience at all. The staff was super attentive, very friendly, and incredibly accommodating. The portions were fantastic, the food was fresh and delicious, and everything felt like a great value. We just moved down the street near Yin's and already plan on making this a weekly occurrence. I had to stop in here before leaving town to have once again my favorite dish from back in the day when I used to work in the area. The space is the same. The lady and her daughter were very nice and welcoming. If this wasn't a nostalgic visit, we would have left. It was unkept. The table wasn't clean, and the floors needed vacuuming. The menu is extensive. If you have questions about the food, there's a picture in the wall. The War Wonton soup had a good broth but the veggies in it were spoiled and came with very few wontons. I had to spit out the mushroom and avoided it from there. Broccoli , shrimp and celery were fine. My garlic chicken was good but of course we all remember it being better than it was. It wasn't the explosion of sweet and spicy as I remembered. No mushrooms and big pieces of zucchini. The lunch portions come with egg fried rice and spring roll. I've been coming here for almost 10+ years! I know the original owners, their food was amazing! They sold it off and the food was never the same for a couple of years, that's why I think the reviews aren't up to date. But it looks like the sold it off again when I saw the " under new management " sign. Stopped by to check it out, let me tell you this Chinese food is so good! I've been stopping by at least once a week, when my family was over I ordered from here, my family were all saying this food is so good! The girl that takes the order is amazing, and recommended some amazing dishes to try out and they were all good! New management made a big difference to this place. read more

I've been a couple times before but this last time was the third strike. I ordered the walnut shrimp with is a favorite of mine elsewhere. It was super breaded like you would bread sweet n sour. Absolutely no walnuts. It was so terrible I had to spit it out. The sweet n sour vegetables had mold on them. The white rice was not white. It looked old. Never again. Save your money. read more

Years ago I visited this restaurant for lunch and was not so impressed, but now with my latest experience I have my new favorite Asian restaurant. Have they improved their quality or did I just have a poor experience? maybe it was just lunch or I ordered the wrong thing.. I dont know. I recently discovered another restaurant, George Yang's, which is very good fine dining experience. With my latest experience in mind, I nominally prefer the food at Yin's, and its much closer to my home. I normally take-out anyways. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and the Beijing Chicken for dinner. Both were Excellent. Really Excellent. I am so surprised how fresh and amazing these courses tasted. I could taste the fresh ginger. I wonder if they use a different brand of oyster sauce or something. The aroma and taste was unlike and better than all the other Chinese restaurants in Phoenix. It triggered for me memories of the higher quality food from other areas of the country I have lived and visited. The place is very non-descript almost hidden in a poor neighborhood strip-mall, a casual dining restarant. I wasn't super impressed with the food here. The lunch specials are reasonably priced I guess for the amount of food you get, but it just didn't taste... good? Maybe I've been spoiled with good Chinese food at other places. I got the veggie lo mein lunch special. The noodles weren't very flavorful. It came with a heaping portion of "fried rice" that had no veggies and was incredibly undercooked. I didn't touch the shredded cabbage and egg soup. None of the food tasted fresh to me. My friend's tofu was pretty good though. I don't know if it was what I ordered, or the food just isn't good here, but I don't plan to return. And their non lunch special menu items are actually kinda pricey for Chinese food that isn't authentic. read more

Won't Disappoint This was my first visit to Yin's and the food and service were great. On this visit I was with a small group. However, we were seated immediately, our menus were given to us promptly, and our drinks were served quickly. All the dish's that we ordered were flavorful and well-seasoned. I ordered medium spice and it was perfect; just what I expected and hoped for. The Crab Rangoon and Potstickers, were delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable, the service is amazing, and the food is delicious, what more can you ask for? If you're ever in the neighborhood stop by you will not be disappointed. read more

One star just for huge servings. Meetings running long. Starving. Craving Chinese. Ooh look at this place on UberEats! May as well get dinner while I'm at it... Ordered teriyaki chicken noodles, bbq beef rice, 2 veggie egg rolls. Egg rolls had very little veggie stuffing. Plum sauce was plum sauce flavored water. Entrees have no veggies in them. Parts of the teriyaki chicken tasted like soap. Noodles were clumped together. BBQ beef had almost no sauce. Just some dried-up glaze. But both entrees were huge. I was expecting a panda-sized bowl, but both were big square styrofoam containers that were packed full. My husband and I were craving some good sit down and dine in Chinese food. Our search was a challenge due to COVID and most places were not not doing dine in. We found Yin's and the rating were decent so we popped in, wow were we disappointed. Here are the reasons: Decor - We should have taken pictures but the decor in this picture does not look at all like the picture in Yelp. Tea - We asked for tea, as it is one of our favorite parts of the Chinese dining experience. We poured our tea and it was like water and no flavor. After a few minutes we notice it getting darker. We also notice the Lipton tea tag on the tea bag. They also charged us 2.50 for the tea. I have never been charged for tea like that before. We ordered our food and was told, "we are out of egg flower soup". How does that happen at a Chinese restaurant? We Ordered the Twice Cooked Chicken and the Teriyaki Chicken Combos and some hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup had an overpowering sweet taste to it. Meals - Our sauces had, what we felt, a hint of maple syrup. Very syrupy consistency as well. The fried rangoons inside did not taste like cream cheese, It had a consistency between Alfredo sauce and Bavarian cream. I am not sure what the taste was even comparable to anything I have eat. All in all I would not recommend this place for Chinese food. read more

My old review was when it was previously owned by the family. I went back not knowing yet that it was under new management and it was horrible. The hot and sour soup was super goopy and the beef in another plate we ordered was iffy. I was told that they had kept the same ingredients as the last owners, but that is not true at all. So I've ate here twice now... I'm a VERY picky eater when it comes to Chinese food! First time I had Kung Pao Chicken. Nothing to brag about.. I tried their egg drop soup.. NOT FOR ME. Big Hengs still has THE BEST EGG DROP SOUP IN TOWN! Like NO JOKE! The Second time, I ordered one of their House special items. Orange Chicken!! I usually don't like orange Chicken from the more authentic Chinese spots cuz they use a real tangerine/ orange sauce and the flavor to me on Chicken is not all that great or flavorful..(I guess thanks to Panda Express for my comparison on why I don't like it) BUT HERE.! At Yins! Their Orange Chicken is THEEE BEST I've EVER TRIED in town (in my opinion)!! I highly suggest it if you eat here. You won't be disappointed. The sucky thing, it's not offered on the lunch special. At least I didn't ask... either way you won't be disappointed. Definitely come for lunch rather dinner. Just happened to be working on some equipment in the plaza and decided it was time for lunch. Yin's was staring me right in the face and my stomach insisted that we visit. Inside is painted pink of all colors and has several cheesy pictures of koi and other Chinese items on the walls. There are booths and some table with chairs and you can usually sit where you want. This is some very Americanized Chinese food and they do a good job of creating some heavy and flavorful sauces. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. So far we have tried a few of the lunch specials. I normally get mine extra spicy and my crew usually orders something on the tamer side. Even got a great suggestion from brother Laz C on my last visit and went with the Curried Chicken. Yum! Service is kinda tricky and takes some effort to get them to your table. They seem to be in a zombie like state and appear somewhat preoccupied. Nothing like a little "Psssst or Yoohoo" to get their attention. Going to play it safe and go with a A-OK rating for this place. Maybe I just like the authentic versions more than the typical Americanized stuff. Went for dinner on a whim, just drove by and figured I'd give it a shot. The girl inside was super friendly and helpful but the inside was kind of blah. Myself and 3 others came over for a quick lunch break. We heard they were remodeling so we wanted to see the updates. SO NICE! When you arrive it lots small from the outside but when you walk in it's actually pretty big. We were seated by the hostess and our server's name was Joe. He was awesome! Attentive. Prompt. Friendly. I've only been here for take out and my bf always picks it up so I have never been inside. That being said this place is A-OK. Good food, fast service and they always get my order right. The Yin's dinner is more than two people should eat in a sitting but we always seem to manage. I love the beef and broccoli and the mongollian beef. The crab puffs are stellar.
