Loved it here! The food was delicious and the staff was so attentive and friendly. We were seated immediately on a Friday evening and our food came out quickly. My tostada had generous amounts of shredded chicken and my mom's shrimp tacos were amazing. The food presentation was great too. We also really liked their chips and salsa. The location was easy to find and we enjoyed their festive decor and the ambiance of being right near the harbor. We will definitely be coming back before our trip is over. read more

Some of our friends brought us here. They are long-time regulars. This is their favorite spot to go to. Going to this restaurant was our first time. The food was very good and delicious. Love their combination plate of chili relleno, taco, and enchilada with rice and refried beans. (Just writing this review is making me hungry) The service was friendly and great. Love the atmosphere where families and friends could both enjoy their delicious meals and socialize. It has a warm, down to earth, cozy atmosphere. Like being at a home dining room and enjoying mom's homemade cooking while catching up with friends and family. This place is very family oriented for all ages - young and old. Yolanda's is one of our favorite restaurants around--so much in fact, that we catered that for my wedding! Not only was the food excellent (and I have gotten so many compliments from guests on how good it was!), but they also went above and beyond from start to finish: from being incredibly helpful while finalizing the menu and other details, to providing chips, salsa, and guac on all the tables just because, to cleaning up everyone's plates after lunch, and just generally being so wonderful, cheerful, and kind throughout. I can't thank Yolanda's enough. If I could give more stars, I would! And as a side note: as much as I'd like to think I (the bride) was a highlight of the wedding, my grandmother would say the true highlight was Yolanda's chicken tamales ;) read more

We order out on the average 1x/m...we have ordered the "Ojai Chicken" dinner in the past and pleased, even able to make 2 meals out of it by adding fresh greens...According to the menu: OJAI CHICKEN "A charbroiled chicken breast topped with pico de gallo and melted cheese. Served with a side of sauteed vegetables". UNFORTNUATELY this time (Mother's Day)...the chicken served with the meal was chopped up and not even near the size of a portion of chicken breast (quite a surprise) and noticeably smothered more cheese to conceal it, really? :(...... if we had ordered in we would have sent it back, but we had ordered out, so not worth driving back.....not going to order from them again. read more

Keeping this to the simple rules.... Location, location, location. And this location is wonderful, if you sit on the patio. Especially near sunset. A great place to take out of town guests, that aren't that well versed in 'Mexican' food. A great introduction to the flavors and basic style. And for the record this is the only Yolanda's location I've been too. To be honest, I'd likely walk out if the patio was unavailable and head on over to Cabo Seafood Cantina. Is the food the most 'authentic'? Nope. Would I go there if it wasn't for the view... not likely. Do I enjoy the food and drink(s), yeah, it's very OK. The service is very good overall. BUT, what is the heck is the problem with the ladies at the hostess stand when you walk in? This is one's first impression and I am not! There are always two to four of them. Each one grumpier then the other, each one trying to look more disinterested, more annoyed than the other. I just ignore them. The waitstaff and bus people are very nice and attentive. When seated you get the usual chips and salsa, for some reason in the evening hours you also, usually but not always, get a small dish of their bean dip, a nice and bit spicy mix of refried beans, spices with a hint of chorizo. Their combination plates come with a choice of two soups, albondigas or chicken tortilla, both of which are really good! Or you can choose a salad, meh. I've had most everything on the menu, all are very OK, no real standouts, no real misses. I do wish they had tostadas with corn tortillas, I just don't like fried flour shells.... that's just me. Pro-tip: Don't over look the easy to pass up salsa bar! Nice selection and it's one of the highlights. After I order I go straight to it! read more

Absolutely wonderful!!! Manager Frankie made sure that our birthday celebration for our 4 family members last week was memorable. From start to finish, the entire staff was so warm and friendly, and the food was outstanding, served by Daniel. We were vacationing and came to dinner to check this place out. The server spilled an entire margarita all over my husband and barely apologized for it. Then when the manager came over to ask what's wrong, his solution was to apologize for the "inconvenience" this caused. It was a major inconvenience because he had no extra clothes since we don't live here. Any restaurant would have covered the check or given a major discount but this place gave $15 off which wouldn't even cover the dry cleaning fees for his Louis Vuitton sweater and sweatpants. Keeping your word and promise. Last Thursday I ordered a taco burrito. I requested refried beans with cheese on the side in place of rice. I repeated it twice, and the sever repeated my order as requested. I picked up my order and got home to discover I had no refried beans or rice on the side; there were no refried beans in the burrito, only ground beef. I immediately called back and talked to Marina, who told me she would redo my order. I explained to her I lived way on the other side of town and would come later. She said in case she was not there, she would tell Frankie, the other manager. Last night, I was out on that side of town, so I called, and Frankie got on the phone and told me he did not see anything and he could not honor my claim. I again explained to him I live on the other side of town and the inconvenience of coming back and forth. So, when they decide to offer their commitment, perhaps they can deliver it. Frankie, sounding upset, said no, if they decided to honor, I would have to come. Which again is not the problem the issue is honoring their word. This was not the first time this had happened; I had decided this time I would not let them get away with this. This was poor customer service! The Latin word caveat emptor, "buyer beware," comes to mind. "Le client n'a jamais tort," shame on Marina and Frankie for not keeping your promise. And while the taco burrito only costs $16.00, the cost of gas and the inconvenience is more. If anyone knows my schedule is off the chain, I don't have the time or energy for this. But I will write a yelp. Of course, if I was someone they thought was important, I assure you the treatment would be different. I will not patronize this restaurant anymore, although I have been a customer for years. You all can keep it! By the way, check Disaree's post below; she had the same issue with Frankie. But after receiving three bags of chips that were extremely hard, a sprite that tasted like seltzer water, getting a ginger ale that was good the first time but not filling up the cup all the way then getting the second cup to have it taste like the sprite ‍. After all this we felt like pests bringing up these issues but they needed to be addressed, we received a less than caring attitude with dumbfounded looks-- playing ignorant doesn't look good on you guys. Beautiful location on the harbor. Plenty of seating outdoors but dogs are only allowed on the small patio out front. Regardless, the front patio is gorgeous too. The food was decent and fairly priced but nothing special. It lacked spice which I was not a fan of but it would have been great for anyone sensitive to heat. I've been coming to this establishment for years. Have never had such horrible service as we experienced today from one of the managers named Frankie. My little sister ordered a carnitas kids burrito and they brang it out not once but twice wrong. The first time the cook put chile verde inside the second they brang it out with chicken. By this time we had ate our meal while my little sister had been waiting for her proper burrito and she was filled up on chips and salsa. So we asked to just remove her burrito from the order . The waitress finally brang her burrito made correctly as we are packing up our left overs and told us we can take it home. When we got the bill the burrito was still being charged, when I pointed it out to the waitress she sent the manager Frankie came to the table and rudely said he will remove it from the bill but he wanted the burrito back. A burrito we didn't order and thought they had brang for the inconvenience THEY caused and my little sister not being able to enjoy any food while we waited not once but TWICE for them to incorrectly make a simple carnitas burrito. Very disappointed in this expierience and customer service by a restaurant our whole family has supported for years. Sad that I will no longer be dining at this location. read more

The food is great, the atmosphere is lively, and the margaritas are the best around but the best part is the staff . Frankie the manager is wonderful and we are proud to call him our friend. He is always smiling and more than accommodating. He is one of the best parts of the Yolanda's dining experience. This was my first time dining at Yolanda's Mexican Cafe and I will never forget my experience here. I was so deeply moved by the food that I contemplated naming my first-born after the restaurant. The drinks were strong and beautifully crafted, the food was plentiful in both portion and flavor, and the service was muy bien. My family has been to a few of the Yolanda's locations. We came to this one in Oxnard during our vacation for our last dinner before heading home the next day. The restaurant was busy but it is also really big so we were seated right away. We were not seated at the windows overlooking the water but we were close enought to see it. We were brought out chips, salsa, and beans shortly after being seated. The food we ordered included flautas, tacos, chili rellenos, tostada, wet burrito, and albondigas soup. I ordered a California plate with chicken. The soup was great. It had been a long time since I had albondigas at a restaurant. My California plate was a bed of rice with seasoned sauted veggies (carrots, squash, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes) and a little bit of chicken. Also three slices of avocado. It was a huge plate but about 90% veg. More chicken would have been nice. Still, the flavor was good. Other highlights as reported by the fam - The flautas were packed full of chicken. Same with the tacos. The chili rellenos had a nice fluffy batter. The burrito had a good sauce. And, finally, service was good. Our waiter was talking to us. Not just taking our orders but interacting with us. Telling us about vacations he has taken similar to ours. And about the different Yolanda's locations he has worked at. 1 star for Dave the manager arguing with me about why the Steak Fajita Tostada Grande doesn't come with Fajita vegetables? I paid $19. for a Grande Steak Fajita Tostada. Fajitas consist of marinated Steak and vegetables right?, I said. Well according to Dave I'm wrong. And he told that I'm wrong and in fact he said "I know what you're trying to do". What??? What the heck does that mean exactly? He also said well how do we know that you wanted vegetables? Dave you are extremely rude out of line out of touch and cranky. Steak fajitas come with vegetables. Peppers onions, tomatoes and Steak, chicken and sometimes shrimp. I don't care if you order a taco, enchilada, tostada or a plate of fajitas. Vegetables are a part of fajitas. At the very least just call the Steak Fajita Tostada a Steak Tostada and leave the Fajita out of the equation if you're not serving it with vegetables. You are extremely rude and insulting. Get out of the business. You are not doing anyone any favors with your attitude and crazy behavior. I've been a customer of Yolandas for well over 30 years. I've had chile rellenos from Yolanda's before that were very good, but they didn't take the seeds out from today's order, which made it much too spicy to eat. I was very disappointed since it was inedible for me. I gave it two stars because while the chile rellenos were inedible, the rice and beans were fine. There's a newer girl with black hair who told me I was good to go when I came for an order pick up (I was extremely tired not feeling well for reference) I didn't question it (completely exhausted) so I left.... I got home and realized oh shit I didn't have a receipt so I called to pay and the person who took care of it was a huge b word saying how dare I blah blah blah. First of all if I was going to steal don't you think I would have neglected to call and fix the issue (maybe 10 min had passed since I left). Never asked what happened well guess what your staff member said I was good to go as in I'd paid. Literally parked in front someone could have came out and said something. The food is mostly always awesome. They will do vegan options for some menu items. They are GENEROUS with chips n salsa (salsa is ). The wait staff is always friendly and their prices for draft beer are reasonable. They usually have drink specials in the bar. Outside dining on a beautiful day is great since they enclosed the patio to keep the wind out. The one thing i miss is the salsa bar with the chiles toreados. (A covid casualty) Please bring it back! The tacos were pretty good but to me, the meat was more like a chorizo than regular al pastor tacos. I also had a couple lemon drops and they were delicious! Since dining must be outdoors, and the recent chilly weather, finding somewhere to celebrate was left to my niece. I was so thrilled to discover that we would be eating in an enclosed outdoor area with heaters. We had such an amazing time , that we returned tonight for another celebration with my best friend. I always order chicken villa, it is my favorite. There are times when this dish is ver spicy, must be the type of jalapeño used at the time, and then sometimes, not spicy at all, jalapeño must have been tamed too long in a boiling water.
