In my opinion, the burgers are a bit expensive ($6+ for a combo, $4+ for a regular burger) and the fries need mega improvement (I threw mine away). However, this is a locally owned and operated burger joint, so it doesn't bother me too much to pay a little more to stay local. However, now that Sonic is up and running again, they may lose customers to cheaper burgers and better sides (Yonah, get some tater tots!). Received a previously frozen burger patty "cooked to order" (leather) on a cold, stale bun with cheap cheese. The fixings were free, and should be at the price point. This afternoon was my first and hopefully my last visit to Yonah Burger. Been hearing a lot about it from friends that travel down there to hike. Was in the area with my grandkids today and thought I'd try it. One of the worst hamburgers I've ever eaten. My wife only ate half her burger and we both left the bun. The bun was incredibly stale. The burger seemed like a frozen patty (vs. home made), and it was really, really dry. Way overcooked. Toppings on the burgers were generous. Fries were beyond terrible. It's pretty bad when my 8 and 9 year old grandkids won't even eat them. Onion rings were great. Staff was friendly and provided decent service. Decor was ok, but nothing fancy. The customer service was terrible. Yes it was a bit busy for Labor Day, but all the tables inside and outside were not full. Immediately told there is a 35 min wait on food. Ok we figure it would be less and it was but when we tried to order some homemade milkshakes the lady in the back basically said she doesn't have time to sit back here and make milkshakes! Really? Believe the hype; this is a great burger, considering you're an hour outside Atlanta. I'm reminded of Taylor's Refresher in St. Helena by this place. I read the reviews on here before I went to Yonah Burger. I saw the mediocre reviews, but figured hey, I'm pretty easy to please. Especially when it comes to hamburgers. Wrong! I ordered a hamburger with mustard, pickles, and onions to go. Stood around for a while (they weren't very busy either). Then I clearly heard one of the employees tell the other that she "forgot" that she was in the middle of making a hamburger. This was just after I saw her out of the kitchen wiping tables in the dining area. Another employee assured her that it would be fine. I glared over at both of them-- clearly this was my food they were talking about. But I got no look of recognition. How could they not know I would hear this?! When the food was then handed out to me, I quickly hurried along. So of course it was my bad for not CHECKING THE HAMBURGER FIRST, which you should always do when taking a to-go order. But as I said, by this point I was in a hurry and you wouldn't think a slow kitchen would be making mistakes. I got home and found that they had put ketchup on it, on both sides of the bun even (YUCK! I HATE ketchup). Not only that, but there was just one small dill pickle slice on top (for the entire burger!?!). And needless to say, it was so overcooked as to taste like an old shoe. I was a bit nervous about eating at Yonah Burger. Our first experience was so good that I thought maybe the food won't live up to my mental hype. We ate at YB on Saturday with my parents and it was as amazing as I remembered. We ate inside this time because my mom doesn't like to be hot. The wait for our food was still significant but not unreasonable. They cook the food fresh for you so I'm willing to wait. We got burgers, fries, onion rings and milk shakes. I used to go here every time I treck up through North Georgia which is 1-2 times a year, but after my visit last Saturday I will probably never be back. Looking back the only thing I ever really liked was the super hot, crispy yet soft crinkle cut fries. The burgers are very average for as long as it takes them to prepare one for you. After nearly 10 minutes there was finally an empty table so we sat out of the way waiting for our to go order for the last couple minutes. When it was finally ready we went outside immediately. I found it odd that dozens of people would cram themselves into a closet-like room before setting foot outside. We ate our food. Was on a vacation in Helen, GA and saw this little place on the way into town, it was packed. A couple of days later we ventured out for lunch and stopped by. I went with the Double Bacon Cheese Burger (see picture). Honestly, it was one of the best burgers I've had in a LONG time. Fresh meat and good toppings. The decent price sealed the deal. As a bonus, they have various hot sauces available. Always a plus. I just wish they had these in Florida. read more

One star seems a little to high of a rating....I don't know where these people come from, or if they have ever experienced a good burger! It was so sloppy it was hard to eat. The lettuce is shredded and soaked in mayo. It was so Soggy I wish I had gotten a fork, But I was so repulsed I felt like I had to force it down....considering the extremely high price for a box of slop. I hike in the Cleveland/Helen area pretty regularly and will often stop into Yonah Burger for a, well, burger. The food is good, but I wish that it were more consistent (and if it were more consistent then my rating would go up). Sometimes the burger is outstanding, while at other times it's mediocre. Sometimes the wait for food is acceptable, while at other times it's interminable. The staff is friendly and the prices here are very good for what you get. This is my second time here. I visit Helen a lot so I will keep coming here but the first time was much better. It hasn't been busy either time. After a great hike up Yonah Mountain my daughter and I stopped by Yonah Burger right around noon. We were super hungry. Unfortunately after waiting an hour for our food we got a refund and left. There were at least 10 other customers who gave up and left as well. The staff said it was because they were short staffed but it had to be more than that as others who came in after us were served pretty quickly. I think they somehow lost all the orders placed in a certain time period. As I was leaving I asked the staff if I could speak to the owner, who they said was not there. I hate to downgrade a review. That's why I gave this restaurant two tries. It used to be a hole in the wall but very good. Now the building has been renovated to a very nice little burger joint that has a lot of local flavor. I don't know if someone new bought it or if the owners just decided to change things up, but there have been changes in the food as well. The decor has been greatly upgraded, however, the food has gone down. I am not from the Cleveland area, I own a cabin here so my wife and I are only are up here about once every couple of months. Back in the summer and now in the fall I tried the new Yonah Burger. We used to really enjoy getting a burger here. In fact, sometimes we made a plan to make sure we ate here at least once while we were here. Much to our disappointment, the last two times we came to Yonah Burger the burgers have been not just disappointing but bad. The burger had no flavor, all I could taste was the condiments. True I ordered the burger with everything but I didn't expect that to mean that I was going to have an onion burger with catchup. Furthermore, the bun was so stale that it was hard and crispy. Speaking of onions, I had the onion rings both times too. Like the burger they were a disappointment. They were so greasy that after a couple I had to stop to keep from getting ill. What a great hamburger. While there is good signage outside it still seems unassuming. Nice and clean inside. Plenty of seating and clean bathrooms. Friendly staff and the food comes rather quickly. The hamburgers are well made and they offer plenty of toppings. The fries are crinkle cut and spiced. On a second visit I split a milkshake with a family member, that was really good as well.
