Most of the reviews confirm that service is HORRIBLE!! Check-out all the sites with reviews. Went in this week at about 9:30 and sat for at least 5 minutes......had both servers make eye contact several times, serve tables around the wife and me but it was like we were invisible. Local guy comes in and sits at table next to us and gets his beer served IMMEDIATELY!! Don't waste your time if you aren't pals with the servers...they are snobs,(with no right to be) and rude. Made sure I let them know (and the whole place) why we got-up and left (old man eating pizza said "thank you for making your point" I only hope he left a miserable tip). Went to Ryans in Brookfield......one guy working the entire bar and restaurant and they were more crowded than York Tavern. The guy KILLED IT!! Had no problem hammering him with a nice tip....especially after the ignorance of the waitresses at York! All my friends from La Grange, La Grange Park, Westchester, Western Springs ....Nazareth and LT sports families, etc, are getting a copy of my review......all of them know it takes a lot to put me over the edge so I can 100% guarantee the York Tavern that they are losing money after the last several uncomfortable experiences i've had and the icing on the cake this past Tuesday night. Such a shame because the food isn't bad and I like the feel of the place. Fool me once, ok, fool me twice, i'm irritated....ignore my wife and me the third time......DONE!!! Been here too many times to mention. Pizza good, burgers good, wings okay, bar good. Why only two stars? Turn your fucking music down. The place is Loud enough. Not one patron that I know, and I know a number of them, doesn't complain about how loud the place is. In fact, when we are considering a burger and beer, we consider the decibel level as the primary reason to not go here. This problem is widely acknowledged. A legend in the near western 'burbs. The kind of place where you can be sitting at the bar next to a plumber on one side and a CEO of a billion dollar company on the other side. At the York - all seem to have an equal standing - which is a bit of a surprise being so close to Hinsdale. Decent beer selection and the food is good. Burgers are top quality. This place is a little off the beaten path, but has become the de facto meet up spot due to its perfect epicenter location in Chicagoland. The place is always crowded, but they keep people moving and the tables rotate pretty well. This place could be 3X the size and would still be equally crowded. Bartenders/servers sometimes have a strange attitude, like they are doing you a favor, but it adds to the 'character' of the place! Service at the bar was bad, was charged for a beer that I never got. When I ordered it she rang it up but then got distracted and never brought it to me. Tried to talk to bartender about it and she argued with us. Another couple behind us had a problem with a drink order also. Instead of listening, she argued. The atmosphere and food are fine - nothing special, just average. The location is the draw, as I was told by friends. However, the service is absolutely appalling. The waitresses are extremely rude. Period. Once we sat down, our menus and coasters were tossed onto our table. Same with some of our food items. And lastly, our check! Also, if not ordering alcohol, it's unlikely you will get any attention ... good luck getting refills, napkins or anything else. I do not know the waitresses name - late 40's/early 50's, dresses inappropriately for her age, short brown hair with highlights ... she gave us one of the worst dining-out experiences we have ever had. Just awful. Attn: Waitresses -- If you do not like working with and serving the public, pick a different job. Great little unpretentious neighborhood tavern set in the middle of the Oak Brook/Hinsdale area. It's very unassuming and draws a local crowd of mixed types, and it's quite the untypical bar for this area, which adds to its charms! You can get an indie brew here, watch a Cubs game, or sit on their spacious deck overlooking a field of trees. They used to only have burgers, which made it kind of low on my list, as I'm not a big burger freak. But a couple of years ago, the owner of Roberto's restaurant in Elmhurst purchased the place, renovated it, and jazzed up the menu. Now you can get a wide variety of good bar food, including some healthier choices such as a grilled tilapia or a chicken sandwich. Another cool thing - it's about a half mile south of the Salt Creek Bike Trail, right at the edge of the west entrance to Bemis Woods. We won't be returning to the York Tavern after our last experience. Food has always been decent, bar type food--good pizza and burgers. Noise level is very high. But what finally made us decide not to return was the awful, rude waitress. We stopped for a couple beers and paid our $12 tab with a $20. Our waitress picked up our payment gave us a dirty look and walked away. It was not like we overstayed our welcome or anything, we were probably there for 30-45 minutes. This isn't the first time this particular waitress has been rude, although a couple of the waitresses there are very pleasant. I'll take my money and loyalty elsewhere. read more

i would frequent this hidden gem before the renovations, and now after, and its amazing either way. it used to be a little rickety red house looking tavern, with a dozen tables or so serving burgers and beer and chili (awesome chili). thats it. period. you could eat and drink for 5 bucks - burger, bowl of chili (gotta have onions and cheese) and a beer. cash only. now its bigger and SO cozy (very lodgy), alittle pricier but still nothing to bitch about. nestled along salt creek on a wooded lot and across the river from the graue mill.. go for walk along the river, then go EAT! the burgers have gotten bigger and juicier, and appetizers more extensive, but still a simple menu, no frills. just good bar food, and a good bar, a few tvs. fridays after work, super busy, all walks of life, business men, old timers drinkin old style, families, 30 - 40 - 50 -60 somethings, good crowd. stop by if you're in the area. great hidden treasure. read more

I have to say I am pretty impressed with this place, okay, well at least the burger. The place pretty much is exactly as other reviewers have mentioned. It is a tavern. It is small. I however, had no problem with the service. On the contrary, I found the servers to attentive and cheery. They checked by at our table several times. I had the burger and the fries. I thought the burger was mighty tasty, and I have to say, better than all the other "gourmet" over priced burgers I have had lately. At least York Tavern asks you AND cooks your burger exactly how you want it. Ahhhh medium rare - pinkish/redish, juicy and delicious.... The bun was fresh, not my favorite, but not bad - it held it all together. The fries, were meh. But hey, they are tavern fries. Crowd was older, then some after work happy hours folks came in....Place is very loud. Was in Hinsdale with my business associate. We are always on the look out for Non - Chain places to get a decent burger for lunch . Spotted this place on York road & It looked busy on a sub zero day, so we ventured in. We sat at the bar and both ordered a Cheeseburger with the works . Came out pretty quick, hot and tasty, grilled the way I ordered it Med- Well. Toppings where fresh and fries where crisp & hot . Was it the best burger I've ever had ....no... but if your in the area and need a bit of old school bar & grill charm, its a solid choice for those who shun the chains and enjoy a cold beverage.I'd eat there again no prob if in the vicinity read more

'm giving them one star because of customer service. I came to get dinner tonight, and when I read the receipt it looked incorrect to me. I said is this pizza half cheese? The girl behind the counter said I don't know I didn't take this order. So I looked, and I could not tell that they had put onions all over the half that should have been cheese because they were under the cheese. I was a little late in calling because I'm taking care of a sick family member, not sick with COVID but ill, I didn't call more than 30 minutes later. I have the entire pizza still. I called they told me you looked it's your fault. No apology and they told me I was out of luck for tonight, and I could mention it next time for a discount. No fix for the wrong order I received. I am disputing this charge with my credit card company because I'm not paying for incorrectly prepared food at a restaurant that can't even apologize for a mistake THEY made. I tried to catch it, but I wasn't going to sit there and eat the pizza in front of them to check. Went there today for a 2:00 PM lunch, they have great pizza and a decent draft beer selection. The service is always a little off over here but today they took it to a new low. We walked into a mostly empty place with our Bike clothes on, yes we rode our bikes there. Hi Vis clothes, Bike helmets, we didn't blend in, they had to see us. We looked at two servers at a table when we walked in, made eye contact, wife said hi. We sat at table for ten minutes waiting for someone to come to our table. Waited on the table next to us in between sitting at a table with there phone stuck to there face. Three servers with three tables of people and six people at the bar and they couldn't get there face off there phones to take care of us. We walked out and on the way out mentioned to one of the servers why we were leaving. Love there pizza, owned and operated by Roberto's on spring road in Elmhurst. eehh........so there's this little hole in the wall dive bar on the outskirts of hinsdale and oak brook.......definitely just a place for the rich to try and slum it..........average food, decent service. you'll find some pretty hot waitresses / bartendresses though.........good locatioin to set the sugar daddy trap. read more

I've been here a few times since they remodeled the place. They've expanded the menu and the food is quite good for bar food. I do like their burgers. They have a fairly good beer selection as well as wine and hard liquor. I do miss the "ambiance" of the old place however. It used to be a quaint neighborhood bar and it is an historical landmark (check out it's history). They're trying to maintain that neighborhood atmosphere but it just doesn't cut it anymore for me. It is always jam packed..sometimes hard to find seating. Also, it is always very loud in there. So be prepared for that before you go in. The bar just isn't big enough to absorb all the noise. Adequate parking but it can get tight when it's very busy. I'd give it a higher rating if it weren't for the couple of negatives I mentioned above. All in all, it is still worth checking out. I will always go back there when I'm in the mood. It is situated in a historical area next to the old Graue Mill. You might want to have a lunch there and then take a walk through Fullersburg woods. I recently moved to the area so I was looking for a local bar. The first time I went in there it was slow but a cozy atmosphere. The only problem I had on my initial visit was the rude bartenders. I figured they were just having a bad day so why not give it a second chance. The issue when I went the second time is that the bartenders had the same poor attitude. After speaking with locals from the area they said that this is a big problem at the York Tavern. All the servers and bartenders walk around with extremely poor attitudes. If you are looking to be treated rudely then go to York Tavern. Other than that don't even bother wasting your time. read more

Very crowded and very small place. Waitress really rushing us and borderline rude. She was going off shift and wanted to close out our tab right as we got our food. Bad mistake on my part because as soon as we paid the bill and she got her tip she never came back again. We asked other waitress for help, but she was very reluctant. I had chicken sandwich and it was mediocre at best. I tried my sons chicken fingers and they were totally blah; no flavor at all. Thank goodness they gave us BBQ sauce with it. This place is now BAD, REAL BAD! For the 1st time in 45 years, I did not tip. The short blond barkeep was incredibly ignorant. I asked for a juice and sparkling water and received a plastic cup of juice. She offered expensive bottled water, but I said sparkling, and she filled from the tap. then gave a shot of sparkling at the end with a cynical smile. I asked for a burger with mushrooms. I got a cheddar ( I wasn't given a choice) burger with mushrooms that was greasier than a slider. The plastic eating utensils were awful. Took an Act of Barkeep consensus to change the TV to Sox/Cub game from a terminated golf match with interviews you could not here. Closed captioning was off. This place is and always was LOUD! Why they hire a soft spoken, broken English, secluded, barkeep could be for only 1 reason....cheap. Buck's in Hodgkins, Kenny's in C'side, and Irish times in B'field much better food, service and people. read more

Poor quality burger and the fries were left over from last week. I can't think why people really come here. Loud, the tables are on top of each other and the wait staff is horrible. During a bicycle ride, I stopped in the parking lot to check my blood sugar, as I am diabetic and was feeling woozy. I discovered it was very low and I didn't have enough supplies to get it up to make the trip home. I went into this tavern, with no money, and explained my situation to Suzane, a server. She immediately sat me down, brought me a soda and continually checked on me until I felt ok. I didn't have any food there....but the hospitality was OUTSTANDING! THANKS SUZANE!!! Ridiculously delish burgers. The wings are above average and their home made chili is outstanding. Seating is tight and, at lunchtime, the talk always seems to be of politics which is a turn off to me. There is enough parking to accomodate, but there's no outdoor seating. read more
