Are you tired of all the commericalized pubs and eateries in the burbs? Come hither if you're in the area. This is a nicely decored local pub. Small but comfortable. Great place to bring the family, a date (after playing golf at Butler) or buddies. Very ecletic crowd: the elderly, middle aged house wives (very enhanced boobs), and college kids. It loses one star because the food sucks. I mean it sucks balls...the usual bar food and burgers. Tastes like microwaved. But, all good. Just hang here for the drinks. Very reasonably priced. On tab: $4 a beer. 1/2 dozen to choose from. They have their own parking lot. read more

I've been going to the York for more than 20 years and it is hard to believe that they maintained the cozy feel while keeping good food and service after tear down remodel. Done. It is bar food tho so don't be getting all "Oak Brook Foodie" on me. Decent, simple fare served by a good staff saddled with an owner with far too much time on his hands hanging around, adding no value and looking creepy and gloomy at once. I have been going to the York Tavern when I come home for years now. I love the charm and the burgers & pizza here are EXCELLENT. The service is always decently quick, although it can get crowded when the hawks are playing or on weekends. If you are looking for something different and more relaxed in the Hinsdale area, I would highly recommend the York! read more

uuummmmm...just not the legend that it was hyped to be. I think some of the yuppie folks wanted to have a great burger joint that they could "dive" bar at once in a while so they fueled the "legend" of York Tavern and it's burgers and za.... but it just isn't anywhere past very average. If it was convenient, I'd probably go once more but by no means would I go out of my way for this joint. I would love to find a place in the western burbs that serves a great bar burger! read more

I have driven by this place hundreds of time, since I live in the area. Recently we actually made the decision to try it out for lunch. Wow, what a mistake. Unless you are going to get hammered, there is no reason to step foot in this place. The food is NASTY. Like, I was scared I would get sick nasty. Although the remodel stole much of the charm, the characters have been replaced by babies, and the cars aren't as nearly as fancy since they paved the gravel lot, I'm still drawn to the York. One thing that hasn't changed, unfriendly and inattentive waitresses. Good and inexpensive burgers, and a lovely setting conveniently off 294. You must go at least once. read more

This place used to be a great place. Lately it has been going down hill FAST. Went in the other night with some friends.. Both bartenders messed up drink orders all night for my party. When I politely corrected them they caught an attitude with me. Lots of eye rolling and snide comments followed. Pizza was sub par at best. I believe in patronizing local establishments. This was my family's first time to the legendary York Tavern. At 5 p.m. it was packed. OK. It happens. But then the staff walked by a dozen times before even recognizing that we were there. Then when my father inquired how long the wait the answer was "when someone gets up and leaves." Really? I don't get that concept at all. **sarcasm** Did that mean 10 minutes or an hour we asked. "When someone gets up and leaves" was our answer. We decided to leave only to find our car blocked by an employee's car. When I returned to ask them to move so we could go, the sense of urgency was underwhelming. We managed to get out before they got there. We ended up going to Weber Grill where we were welcomed, served by an outstanding wait staff and had a great meal. They say you only get one chance at a first impression. I doubt they'll get the second chance. Had the York Tavern staff been more welcoming, understanding and apologetic about the wait, this would have been a better outcome. Unless you are willing to risk service, don't bother. Just a few miles up the road is a plethora of restaurants just waiting for your business. Give it to them. They deserve it. read more

After a hike through beautiful Fullersburg forest preserve and a tour of the old Graue Mill Museum, my husband and I have a tradition of going to York Tavern for beer and a burger---and what a burger!! Blended cuts of beef ground to order, juicy and perfectly seasoned topped with your favorite burger fixings. It is heaven on a bun. There's always a crowd and the crowd is always friendly, mostly locals; it's like "Cheers" with really great food. The fries are always perfect as well, crispy on the outside-tender on the inside. Go, get a window seat and along with the view of Salt Creek, enjoy a burger and a brew. I've been going there since long before I was married which is over 30 years ago, and the quality has never waivered. read more

I normally don't submit negative review, but had the worst experience of my life at an eating establishment. My husband and I came with our two young children (ages 3 and 1.5) following a walk at the Graue Mill. When we walked in, we were barely greeted and told to take a seat anywhere. The servers barely acknowledged us, but simply glared at us. When we were ordering, our kids were playing with the napkins, and the server got angry and told us "not to make such a mess." I was so shocked and dismayed that I didn't know how to react. I don't know how they train and/or manage their servers, but I, nor my children, have ever been treated so disrespectfully in all of my life. I told her that we would be leaving, as children as young as ours are messy and would not be spending a dime of our money in that establishment. She seemed surprised and didn't apologize but proceeded to go to the bartender and tell her about what happened. I couldn't believe it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I worked as a server for years while I was in college and never treated or saw anyone treating their customers in that way. Please don't waste your money on this establishment! read more

It's a local bar with good food. The menu actually has expanded quite a bit in the last couple years. They are affiliated or owned by Roberto's Restaurant in Elmhurst which is why the food is good. This is a great place to get drinks and food late at night. I come here with the hubby when we both need to get some stress out and have a drink or two and eat some yummy bar food. Occasionally I'll order pizza or other items for pick up (or delivery). It does get loud here and can get quite crowded so know that before you come in. read more

Really good food as far as bars go. One of the best places to get calamari for an appetizer. Hamburgers are pretty good and fries always come out hot. Have also tried the salmon sandwich, cod dinner, and steak sandwich ; which have all been solid. But do not order the ribs, they are not very good at all. I see some people order the pizzas which look absolutely amazing; i will definitely try one in the future. Solid beers on tap and they have my favorite beer of all time; Fransikaner Weissbier. I can't believe it took me several years of living in the area before I visited York Tavern. It's been at this location for as close to forever as you'll find in DuPage County. The bottled beer is on display in about 10 glass-door refrigerators behind the bar, and they've got about 10 beers on tap as well. You shouldn't expect a lot of elegance at an historic tavern like this, and you won't get it. The bartender was friendly and greeted my friend and I as soon as we hit our stools. We ordered a pizza after nursing our drinks for awhile, and it was quite good with a thin, crispy crust. Prices seemed about right for the drinks and food. I'd definitely come back. read more

My husband and my in-laws and I went to York Tavern after my husband and I had spent a long (fun) day hiking in Fullersburg Woods. I really liked the vibe of this place -- it is just very much a BAR. No gimmicks. Standard drink selection. Nice casual, friendly clientele. Friendly waitresses. Sports on TV. And the food is pretty good. Awesome cheese sticks and fairly good burgers. I went here last night and i really liked it. Its kind of a small and cozy place but the vibe was good. awesome and attractive staff. the people that were in there were mostly families til the end of the night. They have a pretty decent selection on tab and on bottle plus they had a full bar so if beer isnt your thing they have hard alcohol too. I didnt get to try any food besides the wings but they were pretty good. Its a nice change of scenery from the normal places i go to. I can definitely see myself going back. read more

The York has the best fish and chips in the suburbs. I have tried fish and chips at tons of places in the suburbs, and the York has the best fish- it is cod, with a great coating and of course malt vinegar. Fries are good, maybe not the best but definitely above average. The only downside is that for $9.00 you only get 1 large piece of Cod, and 1.5 pieces would make a better meal. I offered to pay for an extra piece of fish and they said the only option was to buy two complete meals - so they need to come up with Add on fish pricing! If Long John Silver's can do it so can you. read more

A tiny little tavern tucked off of York Road just north of the Graue Mill, I like the cozy atmosphere and basic menu. The food is tavern food, so burgers, wings, pizzas and a small selection of sandwiches and salads. They do have a rotating menu of specials, though I've never tried any. I enjoy the fish and chips while my husband likes the pizza bread. We both agree the wings are just right - slightly spicy, not smothered in sauce or grease. It can get loud and very crowded since there are probably less than 14 tables. Kid friendly during the day and early evening. A great place to watch the hockey game if you can get a seat! read more

Gotta say, not sure what happened to the service. The bartender was slow at best. Stood around, rarely behind the bar, talking to the servers and/or watching tv or on her phone. Things like this drive me crazy. This is a service industry. It took 20 minutes for her to take our food order and longer to get our check. Instead of servicing the patrons, she was watching Wheel of Fortune and Then dancing with the stars. During the commercials she was on her phone. This place is super cute and cozy. The place is tiny inside but you feel comfortable. I suggest getting here a little bit before the usual lunch time or a bit later because it will get super packed. The portions are pretty big and the price is even better. We ordered burgers and fries and they were super juicy and delicious. It is about a 25 min drive and well worth it. We moved near York Tavern almost a year ago and have dined or carried out at least 20 times hoping our bad experiences were just an anomaly. Unfortunately, that was not the case. This is the first time I have never reviewed a restaurant. The staff at York Tavern are simply the most unfriendly and unattentive people I have ever met! We like the pizza and they are convenient for us, but it is just not worth anymore abuse. I really can't believe they are still in business. One other thing - they use plastic forks and knives even if you dine in. Save yourself the aggravation and a lot of money and go to Fox's Pizza and Pub instead! read more
