David was our server - it "started" out OK - he kept attending to another table because in my opinion they were ordering beers & sakes one after another after another after another & we weren't. We ordered our drinks (1 glass of Merlot, 1 large sake & 1 Pepsi) after waiting 7 minutes & then 6 minutes after that, our mediocre miso soups & horrible salads arrived - super bland & needed tons of salt & pepper. 16 minutes later my daughter's bento box arrived & 9 minutes later my husband's shrimp teriyaki dinner arrived; then get this - 19 minutes later, I received my assorted roll dinner - the sushi didn't taste fresh at all and honestly we had to ask for utensils BUT when we received our meals, my husband had to get up to grab us some chopsticks. Terrible service. I wanted another beverage and it took us flagging David down for that & my 19 year old daughter had requested a boba tea however the wrong drink arrived - that when he realized he forgot my Chardonnay. He returned with her boba tea & said "don't worry, I added Irish Cream" - we were like WHAT THE ?!?! She's 19. We got home & she was super sick. What a horrible night. I'm so embarrassed that I advocated for this venue. My husband was so angry that David didn't make it right with us. He kept apologizing for the wait yet the other table kept receiving their items immediately. It was so obvious that we were ignored. There are a million places you can't get sushi in this town, so I was apprehensive to try a new place over some of my personal favorites. Well, they proved me wrong. This will be my new go to spot for fresh and very reasonably priced sushi (much cheaper than the many other options out there). I'd highly recommend the pink lady roll. Ordered a few rolls and three Ramens and a beef yakisoba. First: food is Super SALTY! All five of us drank two glasses of water. We didn't touch the soy sauce for the roll and tried not to sip the broth. Food was tasty and portion was decent. We ordered edamame and vegetable tempura as apps on our server's recommendation, and our server also brought us some spicy mayo to dip them in. This place is everything you want in a Japanese restaurant. First off they absolutely clean that place from the top to the bottom. When we walked in at opening, both my wife and I were amazed by how clean it was. Second, no smell of fish at all. I've been told if you can smell the fish avoid the sushi, this place doesn't even have the faintest wisp of fish. Don't get me wrong they are a nice addition to south austin and have good sushi in a pinch but picking up is ALWAYS an issue. The website ordering is NEVER accurate with pickup times and it seems you're waiting an additional 20-30mins minimum. Set expectations correctly so your customers aren't arriving way earlier then necessary. read more

Super excited to have a ramen/sushi restaurant near my house but so disappointed when I finally tried it. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu with pork belly and chashu and a couple of sushi rolls. The broth was bland and definitely missing the umami flavor. The "spicy" part was just added sriracha to the regular tonkotsu broth. The pork was tender but it was also bland. The sushi rolls were okay. Nothing to get excited about. Also I did order this to-go if it makes any difference. I know they are new so I'm hoping they improve. It's a small and crowded place with no social distance and tables are close to each other. We ordered: 1. Pig chasu ramen- it's really a disappointment. The pork tasted water boiled, flavorless, and the meaty smell would stay at your tongue even after u finished. Not the round shape and not seasoned. 2. Chicken fried soba- first it's not soba, just ramen noodle. Second, it was beef instead of chicken. Third, fatty meat and greasy. 3. Pot stickers. They were the only good thing but my kid didn't like it cuz too much cabbage. We didn't try the sushi so I can't say how they r. They were short staffed and super slow to get the food. With a name like a Yoshiko I was hoping that this place was operated by a real Japanese woman who knew how to serve real home style Japanese food but my hope was crushed immediately after I entered the establishment. Although I didn't try everything on the menu I can say with a high probability that the food is not authentic. This review will be too long if I listed everything that is not right about their food. Being that I'm a Japanese native I will not be recommending this place to my Japanese and or foodie friends however if you're not picky about the authenticity you may enjoy their food as much as you enjoy KFC and HEB sushi. Servers need to be trained for a proper service. Hopefully the service will improve in time but right now I would have to give 2 stars and I'm being generous. Popped in for lunch recently as my daughter had a PT appointment next door. It was freezing cold, cave dark, and cute inside. We hesitantly sat, looking at each other and trying not to burst out laughing at the BLARING rated x rap music screaming out the N-word over and over - such cognitive dissonance with the cute little Asian cafe atmosphere, that it bordered on absurdity. The vegetable tempura was tasty, as well as the eel and the miso soup. We could not get over the blaring music and how completely at odds it was with the environment. Chefs and waitresses, and other patrons just blithely stood around while our ears were being assaulted with extremely graphic and profane loud music. I will never go back because of this although the food was pretty good. PS, I love that kind of music, just not in this environment. It felt very strange. We thought we had gone through a Twilight Zone wormhole or maybe that there was a glitch in the matrix. read more

I've been watching for them to open, and was the first customer through the door when they finally did. There is a real shortage of *good* sushi, and a complete absence of good ramen, when you get south of Oltorf. Yoshiko takes care of both of those problems. The fish is fresh and delicious, and the ramen is amazing as well. They, like almost everyone, are understaffed, so if you're going to be a jerk about instant service, go elsewhere.
