This is a good place to go for hot tofu soup with side dishes for an ok price. But that's about it. The soup itself will come very spicy if you ask for it, but the broth is not very flavorful. The side dishes/banchan (seaweed, kimchi, cucumber) are just ok. Their scallion pancake is included and this is usually my favorite at Korean places, but here it's flavorless and disappointing. :( The service is brusque and to-the-point, which is fine if you're not one for chit chat. But one time I came in at 9:30pm (they close at 10) and they were extremely rude by forcing us to order right away and checking on us every 2 minutes after getting our food to rush us out the door. I don't think I'll be back. Plenty of parking in this shopping center so there's that. read more

Yes, I like Young-Dong Tofu Restaurant. I've eaten here twice and both times were very good. We split the Galbi and Tofu combination ($14.78) for dinner. The tofu soup is tasty and the dumplings were plump and juicy. However, the BBQ Galbi is excellent. They serve some thick cuts of meat and the marinade is delicious. The rice cooked in the stone bowl is good too. The crispy rice is fun to eat. I'm definitely eating here over other soon tofu places in the MPK, Alhambra, San Gabriel areas. You can't see the restaurant from Baldwin Ave., so you have to pull around back and into the parking lot. The service is quick and efficient. Cheers! read more

Korean BBQ + Soon Du Bu is what this restaurant specializes in. Although Arcadia doesn't boast a lot choices of Korean cuisine, this place is good enough. There are so many choices of Soon Du Bu that you can choose from such as beef, pork, squid, seafood, oyster, etc. but I always get the mushroom tofu soup. The korean bbq is alright, nothing that special. I often get the soup + kalbi combination, but you can just get the meat dish without too. The kalbi is fairly tasty and flavorful. I would avoid the bulgogi, since it's not the best that I've had and can be sort of dry. Overall, I'd rather go to K-town if I'm really in the mood for Korean BBQ. Banchan (side dishes) are okay, but not the best either, since I've been to other Korean restaurants that served better fare. You get kimchi, seaweed, bean sprouts and zucchini. The best part about the side dishes is the Korean bean pancake, which comes with a sweet and sour soy sauce mixture for dipping. Sometimes they forget to bring this out, so if they do, just ask for it. The wait can be pretty long around dinner time, especially on the weekends, peak hours start at 7PM. I'd suggest arriving around 6 or 6:30 to minimize the wait. The service is pretty good, but it does get pretty busy and fast-paced. It's cool though, since they work fast. read more

Soondubu craving satisfied! Because I'm originally from Torrance, my ultimate go to soondubu spot is Cho Dang Tofu. But when I'm in SGV area for the weekend and I don't want to take a trip down to Torrance, I go to Young-Dong. Young-Dong's soondubu is very good substitute for Cho Dang Tofu. Their soondubu is delicious and they serve korean pancake as freebies! All of their side dishes are good also but I especially like their bean sprout with seasame oil. I always end up ordering an extra or two of that alone. Young-Dong also serves other items such as spicy cold noodle, which is perfect for summer weather! Sometimes I opt out for cold noodle when I'm feeling beat by the heat. Soondubu wise, I recommend mushroom tofu if you like your enoki and regular mushrooms as much as I do. :) read more

This is really such a comfort food kind of restaurant for me. I've been going to this Young-Dong for years, ordering nearly the same thing every single time, and yet I still love every bite. Food: I always always have to get a tofu soup dish. My go-to ones are the kimchi beef, mushroom or dumpling tofu and I either get mild or medium spicy. Sometimes if I'm feeling extra crazy, I'll order one of the combos and get spicy chicken or bulgogi with my tofu soup! The meats are so tender and the marinates are just so full of flavor. I've always loved the side dishes they give you and I swear, every time I eat here I get at least three refills of the seaweed because it is my all time favorite side dish. What's more, I just learned that you can get refills on the starter salad they give you and that has changed my life because the homemade salad dressing they use is my favorite! And although the garlic taste lingers in my mouth for at least a day, I really don't see myself ever not coming here. Service: Everyone that works here is so unbelievably friendly! I used to think the majority of them only spoke Korean but the last few times I have been here I've noticed that some of them also speak Mandarin! The servers always seem to have real relationships with all their customers and it just makes the establishment feel so welcoming and homey! I love soft tofu soup and this is my go to place for Korean tofu. The food here hits the spot on a cold day and is really good for the price, around $15 (after tax) for tofu soup with unlimited side dishes and rice. However recently I called to order takeout 45 minutes before they were closing and the lady who picked up said we are closed. I called at 7:45pm when the place says it closes at 8:30pm and it usually takes 15 minutes to make. I was pretty disappointed with this because it never happened before. Hopefully in the future, they won't say they're closed for takeout 45 minutes earlier. read more

I'm updating this to 5 stars now because no other Korean place I've been to have topped this place when it comes to food quality and taste, compared to other restaurants around the Southwest in both CA and AZ. This will always be my favorite Korean restaurant joint. The service has improved a lot when I went back over the years. They have never messed up my order and was kind and accommodating with substituting meat ingredients to vegetarian options in the past when I tried out a vegetarian diet. I used to eat at this location many years ago and was so happy it's still here today! Went today and it's still so tasty. The salad is super fresh and crunchy, tofu is so tasty and this place is one of the few places that give rice in a hot stone. I enjoyed my meal very much and the service is very considerate: my chopsticks fell and the waitress gave me another pair without me asking for it, she also had my daughter sit away from where the dishes were served since the plates were super hot. I've been here a few times over the years. If you've never dined here before, I would encourage you to give them a try. The menu is fairly simple: 3 categories to select from ("Combination", "Tofu", or "Special"), 30 choices total (7 to 13 items per category). For the most part, the "combination" options appear to be exactly that: pairings of items from the "special" menu, with tofu. The menus also appear to double as the placemats, which I found to be quite cunningly practical - no manpower/time is expended delivering menus to newly seated customers, and said customers can get right down to business choosing what to order as soon as they grab a table. During my last visit, I ordered the #3 Special - BBQ Beef Rib (Galbi). The ribs were served (noisly) sizzling on a cast iron plate, with a generous portion of white onions, and a sprinkling of scallions and sesame seeds. The entree was delicious, and I highly recommend you select it, if this is your first visit here. In contrast to my typical experience at other Korean restaurants, the staff here is surprisingly friendly, and provides better service than one might expect. The staff repeatedly checked to see if I wanted my various banchan replenished, and I even got service with a smile. Hey, how 'bout that? :D Speaking of banchan, the offerings of the set here (seaweed, cucumbers, bean sprouts, salad, kimchee, etc.) were okay for the most part. The jeon/pancake left something to be desired, as I've had better tasting jeon elsewhere. I was also a bit disappointed that Japchae was only available as an entree here, and not part of the banchan set. Also, no potato salad ... booooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /rant: I don't understand these other yelpers who feel so entitled to tear a small business down because what... it was too expensive for you to afford, because you don't understand that we just went through COVID and are suffering the economic effects, because they're short staffed and too slow for you now? You know what ripping down a small mom and pop restaurant does for the community? You end up with no diversity and chain restaurants. Don't like it? Move on. Or better yet, actually tell the owners themselves. I come here to support the small businesses that work tirelessly to stay afloat. The owners, an older Korean couple, show up everyday to open their doors (except Tuesday) and serve their guests. They cook, they clean, they serve. It's their livelihood. And to say "their prices are more expensive now than 20 years ago" - yeah, it's called inflation. Don't blame a restaurant because you can't afford to eat there anymore. The owners show up for the community, so why can't others? Overall, I'm also someone who has been coming here for the past 20 years and if anything, their food has gotten better. Their banchan is fresh and flavorful - I actually did not like their kimchi before but now it's great. And their tofu soup warms your belly on a cold night. This is the first time I'm giving this kinda score and I'm not sure if I'm creating this decimal number but I give Yong Dong Tofu a 3.63. It definitely exceeded my expectations, since before coming here I had little to no expectations of it being good but then it actually ended up quite satisfying. I got the pork bone soup with noodles and the meat was actually tender chewy and fell off the bone quite easily. The tofu soup and meat dishes were standard but nothing out of the ordinary. I will knock off a couple of points for their banchan - it tasted alright but overall weaker in my opinion. The ingredients don't taste as fresh as the ones I have tried at Oo-Kook Tofu House in Alhambra and they definitely aren't as generous with the plates as that establishment. I would come here if I lived in the area and don't want to drive to far but I would not trek here just to try Yong Dong either read more

This is hands down my favorite tofu restaurant of all time. Walking through the door, I'm immediately swept off my feet by the savory aroma of tofu soup. I would say it's almost impossible to describe this heavenly experience but I will try to do my best. My go-to order is their beef tofu soup combo with either bbq ribs or spicy chicken. The dish is best described as silky smooth cubes of tofu, floating in a bowl of creamy and bubbling broth. Each bite is savory and mouthwatering, packed full of flavor. The spicy chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly on a sizzling plate. It is custom when eating Korean cuisine to be given a variety of side dishes to snack on. Their sides were all tasty but my favorite was their cucumber kimchi and seaweed. The place was clean, well maintained, and I love how strong the AC was which provided a cool and comfortable environment to dine in. Service was ran by two servers who were exceptional and never missed the chance to refill our drinks. Overall, I absolutely love Young Dong and earns a 5 star for it's divine food and outstanding service. You will more than likely find me here on any cold day. P.S. I'm not sure if this is owned by the same one on Las tunas but this one wasn't as good as that one. We came here with a group of 7 for my wife's birthday. Service wise it was okay. The lady taking order was rushing us to take our order. Like going down the line and repeating herself saying what else. Also they didnt clean our table when we had finished and were doing cake. And lastly when we were just sitting there eating they kind of were just hovering waiting for us to leave so they could now clean the table. The food here is okay I feel like it's better at Las tunas one. It takes a lot to get to me in regards to service so I still give them 4 stars. Young Dong has multiple locations; this is the one in San Gabriel. Banchan selections really stand out as well, as do the bottles of sesame oil on the table. Not many options for Korean tofu soup in the area, which seemed weird considering the heavy concentration of Asians, albeit not Korean. Anyway, was a bit concerned about the rating but have been to other Young Dongs and assumed it was service like many Asian restaurants. Sure enough, it was. Food quality was good enough. I don't expect a lot from places like this, but if you need a quick fix of Korean ribs and tofu soup, these do just the trick. I liked that they had some other options like hot pots and soups, which I may try next time. There were a few items also missing from some of the menus posted, but was fine. I can get octopus elsewhere. Food quality for a place like this, not KBBQ or nicer, I say 4 stars. Service was adequate, at 3.5 stars. They tried, what can I say. Language barrier makes it hard. Beware of shrimp poop... Food: the food... It's decent. The taste isn't bad and they give you a variety of side dishes. But three things really bothered me: 1. Their prices have been consistently going up and the portions and quality of food have been decreasing. Don't believe their advertisement photos, we ordered a $12.99 chap chae that only filled half the plate it came in... 2. They burnt their tofu soup... Never had tofu soup that was burnt. It was only a little bit at the bottom, but it was definitely burnt... 3. They don't clean their seafood well. There were so much sand in the clams, and they dont remove the shrimp intestines! So basically, you'll be getting the shrimp poop for sure when you'l get anything with seafood here. Service: not bad. But definitely could be improved. They are in such a hurry that they don't take the attention to place the food on a good location on the table. And since most of these things are boiling hot, it's quite a hazard for us to rearrange them after. Location: it's in the Pavilions plaza on Baldwin, plenty of free parking, and one of the few tofu places around, which is why I've been coming here for a few years off and on. I almost visit all korean tofu in this area. And before I pay a visit, I specify ask people here whether this provide brown rice like other tofu house. People reply they provide as request but today I ask the staff over here and they both said they only have white rice. The hot tofu soup pot and hot rice pot are nice. The banchan selection is flavored too sweet for 3 of the 5 that we were given. We dined in and also ordered togo. You get short changed on your togo order since they only give 3 banchan items instead of 5 and you don't get the salad nor the egg for your soup. We thought it was odd that they served everyone hot tea in the short white cups but they gave us room temperature tea in the frosted water cups. In addition, the tea has this unnatural perfume smell. I've tasted many different teas before and haven't come across one that tastes this perfumy (in a bad way). Drank a couple sips and left the rest untouched. Tasted like someone wearing perfume accidentally touched the water that was used to boil the tea. read more

This is a decent place for tofu soup! I've only tried their Kimchi Beef Tofu soup so I can comment on that. KIMCHI BEEF TOFU SOUP - $10.55 - this comes with all your typical side dishes (KIMCHI IS BOMB HERE!). Also comes with rice in the stone pot, so I always eat all the crunchy rice. I always get so full trying to finish the soup alone with the rice. My tolerance of spicy is pretty high, but I don't enjoy it being too overwhelming. I got medium spicy, but even that wasn't enough for me. Spicy seemed to be okay, but maybe I'll try for EXTRA SPICY! - not sure if it's worth the price, but it certainly is yummy! Lunch special is Mon-Fri from 11am - 2:30pm (except holidays), and doesn't apply to the tofu soups. read more

This is our go to place for korean food in Arcadia. The tofu soup is good, the ban chan is pretty fresh, and the non spicy chicken never disappoints. I knocked off a star as their to-go meal was not as good or generous as eating in the restaurant. But I'm looking forward to eating in there again. We have 3 people 2 of us came in and the third person go park the car, it is heavy rain and I have small kid. The first service let us in and have a seat then another one come said I can't seat at tables even though two of us already in. I've been to many Young Dong's around LA county and this one has to be by far the most disappointing one. While they didn't skimp out on the meat, they certainly overlooked the quality of their banchan. Their seaweed banchan was SOUR. They redefined pickling with that dish alone. The food was not as good as other locations and it was so hard to flag somebody down. The food took a really long time to get out as well. If you're desperate for soondubu, I suppose this place is passable. But if you have the time and capabilities, I suggest going to the San Gabriel location or finding another restaurant around the area. read more

Parking was awful around 6:45pm - it's right by LA Fitness so most the people there are probably gym people - all the restaurants nearby were empty. Place was not too busy. Only 2 ladies were working there. We got our banchans quickly and the rest of our food - ordered 2 Soon Tofus. After receiving our food, we didn't see much of them. The rice came out hot and we thought they would scoop it out like other places but they didn't. The Soon tofu was lovely and not too spicy (we both ordered mild). The banchans were alright. I was surprised to find an oyster or clam in the kim chee (luckily my friend didn't have any since he is allergic). I just wished serve was better. read more

If you're in Arcadia and craving tofu house but you don't wanna drive the extra few miles to the San Gabriel location because you're lazy (like me), I think this place is pretty equivalent. I feel like the vibe in this restaurant is a little different than other tofu houses though because of the way the restaurant is shaped and how it's smaller but I still enjoyed my meal. This was my first time coming to this location and it didn't disappoint as everyone was nice and the workers were nice and attentive to getting more sides and such.
