If you're in Arcadia and craving tofu house but you don't wanna drive the extra few miles to the San Gabriel location because you're lazy (like me), I think this place is pretty equivalent. I feel like the vibe in this restaurant is a little different than other tofu houses though because of the way the restaurant is shaped and how it's smaller but I still enjoyed my meal. This was my first time coming to this location and it didn't disappoint as everyone was nice and the workers were nice and attentive to getting more sides and such. Typical tofu house/Korean BBQ.. Soo basically deliciousness! I almost always get the galbi (short ribs). Always yummay in my tummay!!! A good portion of meat & $18.99, so similar to most other places. Of course I'm not happy with that price but you won't find galbi for cheaper anywhere else. The price definitely deters me from eating galbi on the reg. Today I felt adventurous so I tried their tonkatsu (pork cutlet). Can't really go wrong with that either though. Theirs is slightly different than the usual, maybe added spices to the breading? But still delicious, and their tonkatsu sauce had a slight different tang to it. The portion was huge though! And only $13.99, definitely worth it, I ate only about half of the meat and barely any rice. My boyfriend didn't like his tofu.. Idk why he'd waste his time with that anyways. A solid place for korean food in.................... Arcadia (aka Chinatown)?! is it possible? yes! I've been REFUSING to try korean restaurants in Arcadia, especially since K town is not too far away and there is plenty of good Chinese food to be had.. but a last min decision and the smell of tofu pots landed me in YoungDong restaurant! I was a little surprised that there was a long wait, on a MONDAY night at 7pm!!! At least 6 people ahead of us.. but since it was only a party of 2, we didn't have to wait long. I knew I wanted a tofu pot and my friend knew he wanted kalbi so we went with the combination ($14.98)! What a deal! Yes the portions weren't huge, but the combination for 1 person would be way too much! I got the mushroom tofu pot medium spicy and it was PERFECT. I was completely satisfied. Lots of soft tofu and all sorts of asian mushrooms. I don't like beef, so I didn't care to try the kalbi, but my friend gobbled it up. A rating of a korean restaurant would not be complete w/o rating thier side dishes (banchan).. shows you the quality of the restaurant (in my opinion)... and it was VERY GOOD! Kimchi was well made as well as the pickled cucumbers and bean sprouts. They also provided us with a complimentary seafood pancake and stone pot rice. My only complaint is that, if you're going to provide a stone pot rice, they should pour hot water in there to make porridge (nu rung gee)!!! Okay I've been coming here ever since I was a big baby. But I'm just too lazy to write a review because I'm one fat of an ass. Anyways this place is my daddy and mommy's fav restaurant because of the amazing luscious tofu. I've been here before the new manager that looks super Asian and manly. They changed it and made it more bright which hurts my chinky eyes. The tofu here are pretty divine, they have disgusting mushroom to yummy seafood. The appetizers are not too shabby for me but only the seaweed is godly because it's weed. Rice is given to you in a stone pot which is berry hot. If you're not a pussy then use your hand to eat rice out of it. But I am a pussy so I eat it out of a bowl like a civilized gentleman would. Their giant cookies are amazing. Makes me feel alive. Sometimes they don't have it and I rage at the manager, but most of the time they give it to me when I come cause they know me as the cookie rager. Came here with my friend. Located next to Orchid Thai. I ordered the Spicy Pork and she got the Bulgogi. The food came out relatively quick. The spicy pork was really good. Nicely cooked and the spiciness was just right. My friend said that the Bulgogi was good as well. They also gave us plenty of side dishes including kimchi, bean sprouts, seaweed, pancake, cucumbers, and others. Overall, good food for a good price. Service was really good too. Used to go to the other Arcadia location more often 'cause it was literally down the street for my family and I; less crowded and less busy. But we've gone to this location many times in the past and came to a conclusion that this location is def tastier. They are always understaffed. Every time I come here, there are only 2 people serving. 1 hostess and 1 busboy/woman. So prepare to wait...for seats, to get your orders in, for your hot tea..etc. Service isn't horrible; definitely needs some improvement. But at places like these, I don't think they care to hire more people to up their service. Their food is good enough to make up for it :P Dinner prices are only $1 difference from lunch prices. So I suggest coming here for dinner. Especially on the weekends, even though they're more busy. My family and I usually order 2 of the bbq rib + seafood beef tofu soup combinations (mildy spicy) and it is plenty of food for us. I love the stone pot rice and the tofu soup. My fave combo. The ribs are delicious especially with the grilled onions. We've also had their chap chae which was just okay. I've had better. Its also served with rice, your choice or white rice or purple rice. When you are seated they serve you several little appetizer dishes. One being a little pancake with is really tasty. The meat is very well marinated and its served on a sizzling hot plate. An so is the tofu I ordered the tofu with beef and it comes with an egg which you can crack it into your bowl of tofu. My favorite restaurant, the food and service was great and the atmosphere was cozy.Such a great place to go to with your family and friends.

How to judge a Korean restaurant: 1. The name sounds Korean and isn't gimicky. Check. 2. You feel like you're at one of those hole-in-the-wall eateries you see in Korean dramas: not only are the servers/customers/menus Korean; there is something endearing about the down-to-earth ambiance and simple steel bowls and chopsticks. Also, your server is a cheeky Korean lady with a great personality. Check. 3. Despite ordering something basic like soft tofu soup, it blissfully exceeds your expectations and you realize that you are satisfying the Korean food craving that just dawned on you when you started eating here. Also, you develop a love-hate relationship with spiciness. Check. 4. You can't help but steal pieces of the galbi your friend ordered because it smells unbelievable and it's sizzling right in front of your face. The stack conveniently piles high so your friend can't really say no to sharing. Check. I don't know what more to say... Young Dong is pretty perfect. I was craving some soon tofu, trying to appease my Korean oral fixation. I decided to go to a closer one rather than my usual BCD Tofu House in K town. I wanted kalbi too, so we ordered the pork soon tofu combo with short rib. We also ordered some jap chae (glass noodles w/ veggie). The soon tofu was no different tasting than other places. The kalbi was pretty good, but on the sweeter side. The jap chae was a bit soggy and greasy much to my dismay. The noodles were overcooked and I thought it lacked seasoning. I think I'm going to mix the leftover kalbi with the jap chae for some extra flavor. A word about the side dishes.... Albeit limited, they did have korean style pancakes. A little bland, but I liked how they made it crispy around the edges. It could've used some kimchee and garlic. I had lots of food leftover and the soon tofu is like BCD. Decided on this place because the other spot - parking was hella packed and we were both getting hungry and so Yelped and found this Young Dong in Arcadia: PROS: ***Attentive and friendly staff ***Salad - dressing was just right. Not too sweet or sour and a cool refreshing palate cleanser. ***Plentiful of beef and octopus in my tofu soup ***I like that the beef ribs weren't overpowering with garlic. Didn't burp up too much garlic smells afterwards, lol CONS: in comparison to the Young Dong Tofu place over in SGV next to 168 Market. **Pricier over here. The tofu soup is $1.00 more **Slow service. Felt like it took forever for our food to come. It wasn't as busy around 1pm when we got there and didn't pick up until after 2pm. **Mom got only one shrimp in her Seafood tofu soup. **Beef ribs: The meats were smaller over here. My mom count four pieces per her and I. At the other place, you get six pieces per two people. ***Rice: only white rice - no option for multigrain rice. Also, the rice bowls over here looks smaller than the ones over there because my Mom usually shoves more rice over to me over there. ***Korean Pancake: thin as hell! My mom was turned off at how cheap the cook was for making an inexcusable piece of extremely flat Korean pancake. The one at SGV makes the pancake bigger, crispier, crunchier and thicker. ***Banchan: should have at least filled up more banchan since the banchan bowls are bigger over here. I have been here numerous times over the years, and this place never fails to satisfy my korean food cravings. I recently took a friend here after a year or so hiatus. We went on a saturday for dinner around 7pm and waited about ~15min. Pretty standard. I first noticed the staff change - much younger (new management too?). What wasnt changed was the menu... same as I can remember. When dining for two, I suggest to order one tofu soup + meat combo, and a second tofu soup by itself. The solo tofu soup is slightly larger, and one meat dish is more than enough for myself + one. We ordered the seafood beef tofu soup + Kalbi combo, and mushroom tofu soup. Their soup has a TON of tofu and is not watered down (Been eating way too much BCD and their watered down soup with barely any tofu). The meat is delicious and flavorful but otherwise pretty standard. Also, the side dishes remain unchanged and are still amazing! I love their kimchi and their seaweed! In my opinion, the best side dishes compared to other Korean Tofu houses I've been too. Overall, this place is still as great as before, and I'm sure I will come here again for years to come. read more

Pancake is good, used to be so big, but now it barely covers half the plate. You can ask for more of any item you want. Clay Pot Rice - Make sure you toss the rice right away so it does not all get burnt. But I do love some of the crispy bits on the bottom. BBQ Beef Rib & Tofu - $19.77 - Galbi. They only serve for dinner now. Marinade is perfect balance of sweet and salty. Portion is crap now, you used to get at least 4 total ribs, now its barely 2. BBQ Beef & Tofu - $17.99 - Bulgogi. Sweet sliced beef. Great with rice and the onions under the beef. Again, portion is crap, the pile used to be huge. Beef & Seafood Tofu - Large amount of beef, seafood, and tofu mixed in this pot. Soup is very flavorful. Extra spicy is not spicy. I always poach my egg so I can eat the yolk with the rice. The food here is so good but I gave them a 3 because of how much they have changed. Dinner used to cost less then the current lunch price and the portions used to be so much bigger. Sad to see how expensive it is now and how little food they serve. read more

This is my mistake, but NEVER ask for mild. I recently went on a trip to Korea where even mild is spicy, so I definitely have not adjusted to US standards of Korean spice. There is also a lack of variety in side dishes compared to K-Town or other Korean plentiful areas such as Rowland Heights. To top it all off, one waitress (or possibly the owner, her clothes were different from the other waiters/waitresses) kind of tossed my check at me. In order to catch it, my hand landed in a puddle of chili oil. Not a good way to end a meal. I'll stick to Korean tofu outside of Arcadia. The place is right next to Orchid Thai Cuisine in the plaza with the Pavillion and all of the shops. This place is pretty spacious and wasn't too busy when I went for lunch around noon so we got seated right away. Nothing special about the decoration but you don't usually come to these places for the decoration!! The service was great and the waitresses were nice. We got our food pretty quick and I was very satisfied with my lunch! The sides comes with seaweed, kimchi, korean pancake, beansprout, kimchi cucumbers and this kimchi crab thing... I love the sides! Plus you can always request more sides if you REALLY like them :) My favorite sides are the beansprout, cucumbers and seaweed!! Yummmmm... For Tofu, I got the Spicy seafood tofu. It came with a bunch of clams, which was awesome and generous amounts of tofu. I really wish I ordered the extra spicy tofu because the soup base honestly was NOT spicy. I have a palette for spicy food, so this did nothing for me. I usually enjoy a dish when I get all sweaty and is glupping down my water! JK :) But seriously... spicy is like MILD here which was surprising for me because korean people know how to eat spicy. Maybe I'm being a bit generous with this review, but when the ahjimmas are serving up UNLIMITED banchan, it's hard not to give them at least 4 stars. Honestly, they were super super nice and friendly about constantly filling our ban chan. I particularly enjoyed the seaweed one while Tiffany H. was happily munching on the beansprouts. Their kimchi is just okay, but it has a lot of green onions if you're a fan. Their soondubu (especially the Octopus and Beef one) is pretty good! Solid flavors and served up boiling hot. This was my first time at this location. I normally go to the one on Las Tunas...which is definitely newer, cleaner, and better atmosphere. The menu is the same, came here for lunch and got my usual Seafood Tofu Soup Spicy. I think they have slightly different Banchan than the other location..possibly less? -beansprouts -spicy cucumber (yummy) -kimchee, the other location had stronger flavors in their kimchee, and no chunks of oyster boo -smaller korean pancake -fish cake -seafood tofu soup (spicy)- -3 large shrimp (yay) flavors were good.. didn't divert too much from the other restaurant so that's a good thing -the rice in the clay pot didn't end up as crunchy as the other place :( -spicy pork with beef tofu soup combo- This was a bit disappointing. The pork was greasy, the portions small, and the flavors barely existent. Overall the portions were a bit smaller here. I guess since the location is smaller, there were less workers..and the service was very slow. I would probably just stick to the one on Las Tunas for my future tofu cravings. read more

Craving Korean food, I decided to give Young-Dong Tofu a try last week. The chain restaurant has several locations throughout the San Gabriel Valley. This one happened to be located in same shopping plaza as Burlington Coat factory. Got here early before the lunch crowd and was seated immediately. The menus were provided like placemats and visually displayed on the wall. Dishes can be ordered as combination which comes with a standard dish and tofu soup or you can get them individually. Even if you weren't an expert on Korean food you could probably find something that you liked here. I ended up ordering the vegetable bibimbap which was white rice topped with a variety of vegetables, pieces of shredded beef and a fried egg. It came with an assortment of banchan side dishes (about 5 side dishes plus soup), mainly vegetables that were either pickled or drowned in spicy chili sauce. I enjoyed the spicy ones more than picked, especially the kimchi and cucumber. Everything was fresh and well marinated. I got a side dish of scallion pancakes as well, but found it to be bland, chewy and there were no sauces served with it. My bibimbap arrived piping hot and was served in a sizzling stone bowl. I usually get more meat in my bibimbap at other Korean restaurants, but YDF was minimal used mostly for flavor. Portions and quality of ingredients were average and lack luster. You actually got more rice than vegetables and the fried egg on top was slightly overcooked. I prefer my egg yolks oozing over my rice. But once I started mixing the entire concoction and dousing it with hot sauce, everything worked out fine and I ended up devouring the entire bowl. All in all, the food was decent, service was fast and the prices were reasonable. If yes, they have gone downhill. If no, well, I wouldn't come back. If you do end up going here, you shouldn't go too wrong with any dish you choose. I had the extra spicy mushroom soon dubu. It had about five mushrooms in it (sad), but at least it was flavor packed and served up nice and hot. Their banchans could use a lot more marinating time; I found that the pickled dishes were pretty bland. The salad dressing made up for the lackluster banchans (although they forgot to dress my salad and had to ask them to). I dipped the banchans in the dressing and they were delightful. I also tried some of the bogulgi; it was on the sweeter side. So the food overall was good, but the service, and not to mention this weird sour fishy smell that emanated the entire restaurant (think cleaning solution meets stinky trash can), were enough to bring the experience down to two stars. They were slow, slow, slow. They weren't attentive to their customers (all four tables) at all, except when it was time to pay. Then they were all speedy. Also noted, if you want tea you have to ask for it if you're not already speaking to them in Korean. True story. (One of four tables got tea when they sat down.) Hungry.. we were searching for some korean food. We settled on trying some tofu soup from Young-Dong. This place is located in a shopping plaza, right next to a Thai restaurant. We entered around 9:15PM on a Sunday night... as we were greeted, they told us the kitchen would be closing at 9:30 since they close at 10PM. The food was okay. I ordered a combination which comes with a small tofu soup of your choice and meat. I opted for the non spicy chicken and I'm glad i did. That was the item i liked the most. The banchan was okay. The tofu soup was pretty good.. but the rice was pretty bad. Maybe it was a bad batch? It seemed undercooked or they added too less water... too hard. I can't say I had a good experience here, service or food wise. The service was very rushed. I understand you're closing soon... but we would have been out of there before 10PM regardless.. and other people just received their food too! The dishes are not as good as they used to be. Just notice they changed the ownership. Portion of the food shrunk in size and everything is sweeter, a bit too sweet for me. Reminds me of the place I used to go to with a whole group of muddy friends after playing our traditional tackle football game during the first rain of the season. Okay, okay, that place was Beverly Soon Tofu and I haven't played tackle football since the 90's... but Young-Dong is... can you keep a secret? Young-Dong is... quietly... my favorite Korean tofu house. Yeah, I've been to all the other popular joints. BCD, So Kong Dong and of course Beverly. For me Young-Dong is every bit as good as those more mainstream choices, and I prefer it over the others for these reasons: 1. I don't have to drive to k-town. 2. I don't have to drive to k-town. 3. Cleaner. 4. Possibly, slightly better service... or maybe not. 5. The Korean pancake (included in meal) is always hot and crisp. 6. The banchan tastes better. 7. Their dolsot bibimbabp combo is awesome and can feed 2. 8. MSG coma. Actually all the tofu houses afford me this joy. 9. Not filled with a bunch of muddy Korean kids. 10. if you're a fan of the tofu house on las tunas and have recently found out that the one on las tunas is no longer the same. you're not the only one because i went through the same dilemma. my boyfriend and i finally decided to try this tofu house since the one on las tunas is no longer tasty. we ordered our usual #1 the beef ribs with clam tofu and another portion of clam tofu. all items were tasty!!!! if its your first time and unsure what this tofu thing is all about they give you an egg so you can put it in the tofu. it's like a soup that tastes good on top of the rice or with your meat! my favorite is the clam as you can tell! i usually take out all of the clam shell before i dig in. medium spicy is perfect for me. reminder: this thing is ho [temperature wise] t so you have to be careful. the side dishes are a lot smaller especially my favorite the seaweed. which makes me have to ask for more multiple times! this location is smaller and there is always a wait time if you come during their peak hours: lunch and dinner. service is average because it's at an Asian place what can you expect. plenty of parking because they share the parking lot with orchid Thai, la fitness, pavilions, subway, au 79, Burlington coat, and the list goes on! tips: side dishes if you want more ask for it! it's free of charge! they take credit card. there's two bathrooms. make sure you wear something you wouldn't mind getting a food scent on. i will no longer go back to the las tunas location. arcadia location you are my new go to tofu house! read more

Been coming here for years. We like the Seafood tofu with beef - medium spice- it is soup with Soft white tofu, shrimps, mussle and clam. it is a small bowl so it is good for one only. Their "combo" selection is a good deal. We usually get tofu and Sizzling beef ribs. As with any Korean restaurant, the moment you are seated, they flood your table with appetizers :) read more

Overall: Super disappointed with this place. It was once a really good Korean tofu spot, but now it's just disappointing. I don't know what else to say. The tofu soup barely had soup in there..so it was super thick. The bibimbap was meh. The only good items were their meat. Parking: There is a big parking lot in the front. It's located in a plaza. Interior: Plain looking. Minimal decor. Good amount of seating. Service: Average customer service. Food: For the price you're paying, I suggest you go to another tofu soup place. Bibimbap: average bibimbap. Lack flavor. I'm not exaggerating. You can find better ones in the 626 area. You don't even need to go to Ktown. Seafood tofu soup: it's not soup. It's a seafood bowl in tofu soup sauce. Seriously...not a soup! So disappointing. Is it that difficult to add more soup? Side dishes: they were the highlight of the meal. This is probably one of my favorite Korean places to go too! What I got: Rice with veggie in the stone pot BBQ beef bulgogi I love love loveeeee their beef bulgogi. It's marinated just perfect and their salad that they give you in the beginning I love the dressing. I just started coming here within the past couple of months, but I've heard they've really downgraded their portions. You get the better deal though if you come in during lunch, I think personally. read more

This is their other one in Arcadia, CA. The food is good. You make the determination on how spicy you would like the tofu along with the other dishes. I'm not too big on tofu, but it's good on a cold day along with an order of meat. The service at this location unfortunately really stinks. Maybe they're too busy to be able to wait on all their patrons since it's always busy. But that shouldn't be an excuse. Hire more waiters/waitresses! The cleanliness also needs to improve. They need to scrub down the greasy floor a bit more often since it was a bit slippery. I even saw a waiter slide as I was walking back to the table from the restroom. This place is too small. I hate to sit or share tables with others around me. Our table was so small in between a couple others that we were practically rubbing elbows! If you want a nice dinner with minimal noise and lots of elbow room, then this place is not for you. I would give them 4 stars for the food... but, lacking space, cleanliness, and bad service drops them a star. And I am being nice about it. read more

We almost did not go here. My mom did not want to wait. Sign your name in on the clipboard. They said it would be about a 10 minute wait and they were right! My mom ended up really liking her dolsot bibimbap. My dad ordered jap chae. The portion was generous enough for me to have some for lunch at work the next day. It was just as delicious the next day too. It was the best jap chae I have ever had because it was not greasy. So many of them are, not here. There are 2 drawbacks for me at this restaurant, well 3 if I really think. #1 the color painted on the walls, it reminds me of work. #2 the fluorescent lighting, ugh! #3 the sticky, slippery floors as another Yelper mentioned. Mmmm, a good place to get my tofu fix! I am a loyal BCD Tofu fan, but this place is almost just as good. Besides for the long wait, the slightly less-clean feel, and the curt waiting staff, the food is excellent. It's about $10 for tofu, and it comes with SO many appetizer/side dishes. They serve you the rice in the hot pot, and unlike BCD, don't water the crispy rice down into a water/rice soup, so you can enjoy the crispy rice. I'm salivating thinking about this place! Also, I accidentally left my credit card here, and I called the next day and picked it up no problem (there was actually a large stack of credit cards, it was kind of surprising). I will definitely return here when I'm in the area. Just not looking forward to the lines. read more
