this is a hidden gem. Weight your food wow! and affordable in this day and age! another plus! Choose your spice level, don't go high you can't come down. Go low then add more spice you can always do that. Gummy bears for dessert! Some items have ICE so shhh I recommend getting the non ICED ... ICE will add more WEIGHT!!!! My wife taught me this!

If you want a comfort food, this will satisfy your need. You come in and can pick as many ingredients as you want from their side bars but ofc keep in mind that they weigh your bowl excluding your soup base. There is also a sauce bar as well which is nice and a variety of soup bases. Spicy beef broth is comforting but not too overwhelming spicy. All of the ingredients are good for the price. Quick service since they cook your food right away after you finish selecting your ingredients for our soup , weighing, and selecting your soup base. Small eating area but clean interior. Eating area does get crowded especially when it gets busy. Spacious parking lot within a plaza with an Aldi market.

Don't let the name scare you if you're not into spicy foods like I am. They have the most delicious non spicy tomato broth around. It's a no frills kinda place. You walk in, they assign you a table and then you grab a big plastic bowl, some tongs and fill it with all the ingredients you want. It's measured by weight. My daughter once overfilled her bowl and ended up with two fully cooked bowls which was hilarious and of course she ended up just taking one for dinner. Pricing is pretty decent. The sauce bar could do with some ponzu but overall it's our go to place when we're not hungry enough for ayce.

This spot gets five stars easy. If you're not familiar with hot pot, then this is a great place to start (and continue going to). You get a huge bowl and tongs and you walk past several stations with raw foods that you add to your bowl. There are many meat, veggie, and seafood options to select--you won't be stuck with nothing to choose from that you like. After you select your food options, you'll bring your bowl to the counter for weighing and broth selection. The food is, I think, $13.99 a pound. You'll have four broth options and several spice level options. I believe they even have a tomato base broth for vegans. Then you'll get a number assigned to your bowl before you take your seat and wait to be served. The food comes quickly, and the service is quick and efficient. The ambiance is lively and yet still calm. They have clean gender neutral bathrooms, and they share a parking lot with several other spots including an Aldi and a CVS--you can get some shopping done or pick up your meds if need be after your meal. The prices are fair, the food is tasty, and the employees are nice, which makes it a spot worth your time and hard earned $.

    So yummy!

Super yummy! I don't know why it took me so long to come here when it's a place I drive by pretty often. I was missing out! So glad I tried it and now I am in love with it! We usually go after lunch or before dinner to avoid the wait. We did go during dinner once and although there were about 6 parties in front of us we didn't wait more than 20 min to be seated. There's plenty of parking in the plaza it's located in. There's plenty of tables/seating. Service is always great and fast. It's $13.99LB, which I think is pretty decent. You can make your own dipping sauce. I usually only add scallion, soy sauce, garlic and chili oil, but they also have sesame oil, vinegar, the peanut sauce and more. Once you grab your bowl you start adding whatever you want. There are ramen and vermicelli (I think) dry noodles. The first station has all the tofu, frozen crab stick, meatballs, egg noodles, etc. The second one has veggies, spinach, different types of mushrooms, napa, cilantro, bok choy etc. I like that their veggies are clean because you can tell at other places they don't wash the veggies thoroughly. The last station has all the meats and seafood. Once you're done adding what you want you take it to the register and they will weigh it for you. You then choose 1 of the 4 options. #1 Spicy Hot Pot Beef Broth, #2 Dry Spicy Mix. Those two you have the option to choose your spice level (original, mild, medium, hot). #3 Tomato Beef Broth. #2 & #3 vegan option available. #4 Spicy & Sour Beef Broth. I usually get ramen noodles, all types of mushrooms, spinach and bok choy, and beef with #1 mild. Honestly, I do enjoy spicy, but the second time I had it it was too spicy for me. This last time I had it wasn't as spicy. So I feel like the spice level isn't always consistent. But it's always so yummy! My bf has tried #4 Spicy & Sour, but said his fave is #1, he said the sour taste gets old after a while. I did like #4 but it was a little too sour for me. Either way, everything is clean, yummy and good customer service. Will definitely keep coming back!

Very tasty and no line at dinner time. This one has more options than the one in Monterey park. I love that you can choose your own ingredients and type of soup or dry mix. For $13.99 a pound, you are left satisfied. This place is a little spicier on the spice meter. You get to build your own sauce with lots of different condiment choices and they also have pickles on the side for you.

This place can get pretty packed during meals and rainy days-- I've been coming here often, as malatang relatively affordable and tasty meal that satisfies everyone you eat here with. The premise is simple-- you choose the ingredients you'd like, you pay for the weight, and then those ingredients are cooked in a broth of your choosing. It's BYOB hot pot, which is why malatang makes for a very fun eating experience. I enjoy the hot and spicy soup (a beef broth with pickled vegetables and spice) with bamboo, wood ear mushrooms, pork intestines, tripe, sweet potato noodles, a chinese donut (which you can use to soak up the broth) and other items. The selection you can choose from includes a variety of recognizable and relatively uncommon ingredients (for those who may not eat Chinese hot pot often)-- but certainly is enough for a pleasing meal of one's choosing. Service is a fast and quick. Don't forget to check in on Yelp during week days for a free drink.

    Spicy and sour beef broth

I love this hot pot place! My family and I come here so often, I figured I should show support and leave a review. All of the broths are delicious but I am obsessed with the spicy and sour broth. I get bored of the hot pot beef broth near the end of the meal but I don't feel that way about the spicy and sour broth. My toddler and husband also love their tomato broth, so this is just a great place to come with my family. We never wait too long to be seated and it's always been a pleasurable experience eating here. The waitstaff is also attentive and friendly.

Came here for a group work lunch of 15. We called ahead and they were willing to accommodate us the best they could if a few of us arrived 20-30 minutes early. I came at 11:30 and they started reserving several tables for us. Good thing they did because the restaurant filled up around lunch! Malatang type of hot pot: $13.99/lb of food. 3 sections of food. The meat is set to the side if you're looking for vegetarian options. It is just one pair of tongs per person though so cross contamination is definitely a high possibility. You weigh your food in a bowl and they cook it for you in your broth of choice. I got the spicy beef broth in original/no spice level. It's still a little spicy. Sauce station had plenty of options and nicely stocked The food came out really quickly given the amount of people we had. Overall very happy with the service and their ability to accommodate us. The food was also excellent!

This place is fairly clean and nothing to complain about, but in my opinion the soup was better at YGF... The service was good. Food is fresh. It was served quickly too.

Back to this place! Go early! Like 4:30/5pm before it gets busy! This time I opted for their original soup base. Medium spice. Nice and creamy soup. Medium for me, was my mild. I got mostly protein this time, mostly intestines!

    Cindy L.

Really nice spot in Arcadia for a quick hot pot fix. I love being able to control exactly what goes into my bowl. I don't like my food too salty so I ask them to mix the broth with some clear soup. Definitely a good value for the price if you don't go too crazy on the heavy items!

Had online order and ate in the other day, both experience was good. The soup base is what makes the food. Quality of meats and options for the pot is much more in person than it was online. I love the separation of the cook items and soup when we had it deliver so the items didn't come over cooked. The spicy beef broth was my favorite, the sour base is different but not as I was expecting. It wasn't like a tom yum base but more of a sour cabbage base. The service was good in house, not much service really because you grab your item and go to counter for selection soup base. There was lots of people, there is a hand written wait list....wait area is small but you could stand outside. The place is clean which I like, there is a person cleaning up right away when you are selecting your items. Great addition to the area for winter time.

My group will have a couple of people who are gluten intolerant, do they have broth that contains no gluten? Are the tofu and balls safe?

    Does this location have skewers?

    Sorry. No

My group will have a few kids who can't eat spicy food, and we were wondering which broth option will be less spicy for them? Thank you!

Get the base broth and ask for no spicy. I was in the same situation and the staff was very accommodating

What kind of bone broth is it? pork? beef?

Beef broth. Tomato broth. And vegan broth

Just want to know if there is MSG? If yes that is no problem for me and Uncle Roger Would Approve as well.

Do people still get to walk in and pick their own items?

    For now yes

Is it all youI can eat?

No is not, food is weighted you pay for the weight. Minimum is 1lb about 15$

Is the broth vegan/vegetarian (not bone broth/chicken stock etc)?

It's not vegan. It's bone broth

    Do they offer To-Go option?

    Yes

Do they tare the weight of the bowl, i.e. don't charge for the weight of the bowl?

They deduct the weight of the bowl. The scale actually begins at a negative to account for the weight of the bowl. :)

For the first three dishes, we clarified with the owner to make this vegetarian (also vegan), which she was able to do very easily and without question. We communicated with her in Chinese, but she also spoke English to us, when we discovered that our Chinese was likely not as fluent as native speakers. Everything was flavorful, without relying on just an overwhelming amount of salt, and we really enjoyed the green beans that seemed to be cooked in fermented bean paste. I found the eggplants particularly tasty too! The service: This small store had so much business, so we did spend some time waiting before we could actually order our meal. The restaurant itself was filled with folks dining in, and there were multiple parties waiting for take out. Even so, once we did order our meal, it didn't take too long for all four dishes to come out. I love the mixed vegetables, but sure what makes it good since it's just bland zucchini, peas, green beans, carrots, and corn. But goes so well with the dish. The mash potatoes were also good...I loved everything tbh... My sister and I each got a refill on our drink and I felt a weird aura from the start so u didn't ask for another. We had so much leftover since I ate most of my uncles dish and he barely ate but I'm so happy they still had great portions.

Wonderfully delicious! Great little restaurant for authentic Xi'an based food! There wasn't a…read moresingle item we ordered that we didn't like!

This is truly one of those places that keeps you coming back again and again. The kind of…read morerestaurant you still crave and can't wait to revisit. XiAn Foodie 李老三 serves food that is not only delicious, but authentic and full of soul. The handmade noodles were impressive. perfectly chewy and springy, soaking up the rich sauce. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying! The lamb skewers, beef skewers, beef shank noodles, lamb & carrot dumplings, and oil-splashed noodles are all highly recommended. Everything was tender, aromatic, and clearly prepared with great care and attention to flavor and ingredients. Spice lovers will definitely be happy here, but even if you normally don't eat spicy food, you'll still find yourself going back for bite after bite. The restaurant itself is simple yet elegant, clean, and comfortable, with the warm feeling of a beloved local spot. The service is friendly, and the food comes out quickly, creating a relaxed and welcoming dining experience. Especially after a long day, having a hot bowl of their oil-splashed noodles feels genuinely comforting. If you enjoy unique Xi'an cuisine, I highly recommend giving this place a try. You can taste that the flavors have not been overly adjusted just to appeal to the masses. Instead, the restaurant preserves the authentic spirit, warmth, and bold flavors of traditional Xi'an cooking.
