Every time I come here, I'm usually starving and it's super packed, so I never had a chance to take good photos or write a proper review until now. I've tried several of their soup bases, and my favorite is definitely the mala flavor it's packed with just the right amount of heat and flavor. As for the beef selections, you really can't go wrong, but my personal favorites are cuts #2 and #3. Cut #1 is a bit too lean for my taste, and #4 is a little too fatty. Both of my parents got the House Shrimp Special Broth and I got the Vegetarian Broth. Shabu Lin's $19.99 lunch special is the unique hybrid of AYCE hot pot items with only one plate of protein of your choice. BF and I stopped by for a weekday lunch and we both chose the beef wagyu for our individual plate, while I picked the savory pork bone broth and he got the house shrimp special broth. After our protein and broth selection, we were free to fill our plates with as much veggies and sides and other hot pot ingredients as our hearts desired. Shabu Lin has a good selection of seafood and fish/meat balls than what I expected. I thought I'd have trouble getting full off one plate of meat and hot pot sides, but I was wrong! I only had one full plate from their hot pot bar and was so so full. Only improvements I can see if making sure to clearly mark what's in each container. The dumpling that day was full of kimchi, which I would've skipped so that it doesn't affect my broth, but I found out too late after getting two pieces. We had dinner there this past Friday. There is a decent amount of parking along the street and we lucked out with a spot in front of the restaurant. Inside the place is warm and inviting. The service is top notch and really on top of things. We did the AYCE option which is only $28.99 and I think that is a really great value. The seafood, vegetables, noodles and other options that are part of the food bar are extensive. You get a lot of sauce options as well. The meat that they bring out to you is all freshly cut in the back. Thin, flavorful and delicious is how I would describe the beef, pork and fish option. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of hotpot, but my sister (once again) convinced me to give this spot a try as they slice their meats fresh and each slice is thin to my liking. Great option for AYCE hot pot! My friend had her birthday here and they were able to make reservations and reserve three tables in advance. Each person gets their own individual pot and is able to choose the soup base. I usually get the house special shrimp base and it compliments all the flavors of meat and toppings. My favorite cuts of meat are always the fattier ones (Chuck eye steak, Angus Chuck Roll, Pork Collar, Pork Belly) and these do not disappoint. All the veggies, mushrooms, noodles, and fish balls are centralized so you can easily grab as much as you want. First things first, the value. With prices ranging from a $20 lunch for 2 meat plates and a $29 price tag for AYCE, it's definitely the main draw of this place. It's pretty much impossible to find any AYCE under $30 anymore. We got seated on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm and there was ample seating. A small nitpick, but I think the music should be a little louder we were the only party there at the beginning, but was definitely a bit quiet. This place also has a decent selection at the salad bar with your veggies, fish balls, shrimp at the sort with a mini sauce bar as well. The sauce bar was pretty compact and missing some of the usual add ons, and I thought the ponzu was a slight miss for my taste but it gets the job done. Now onto the main point, the meats. First of all, I chose the Mala broth - standard Mala broth, rich and oily and definitely what I wanted to pair my meat with. Onto the meat selection, there are around 8 choices. I'd definitely suggest going more for the fatty meats like Chuck and the Short plate. The leaner meats definitely did not do it for me. The fish though works especially well with Mala and was really good in general. But overall, I think the lower quality of the meat is a little apparent. Although, I enjoyed some of the fattier meats it still left me wanting more with every bite. The color before and after cooking, as well as a slight toughness to everything cooked as I tried to leave it in the broth for less and less time, was a slight disappointment. Overall, if you're just looking to get a high volume of meat for your money's worth this place could do it for you. They have a salad bar and bar where you can choose your unlimited seafood and veggies. The wagyu was the leanest which none of us really cared for...fattier the yummier lol. On the side they have a variety of dipping sauces for you to choose from. Came to eat at Shabu Lin for a friend's birthday dinner. We came for an early Sunday dinner (5PM) and when you first step into the restaurant you will notice how clean the interior is. The salad bar is located in the middle of the restaurant which a huge selections of sauces, vegetables, seafood, and some hot foods. Dinner pricing was about $28/person and I believe Lunch was $18/person AYCE. I got the sukiyaki, and it was a bit underwhelming, I felt like the soup based was too watered down in my opinion. Around the table we also tried the Mala Pork/Ginseng Chicken/Pork Bone soup and all were a bit too light in my opinion. If the soup flavor was a bit stronger they could easily become a popular hotpot spot. The meat/seafood selection was pretty good for the price, I recommend getting the Short Rib cut. It's the fattiest beef cut they have on the menu and I could easily eat 5-10 plates of just that. As for service, our server was attentive and nice to start, however after starting us off with our soups/drinks he never came back to check on the table. This might be a plus for some customers, but I was personally a little sad. Overall, the restaurant is decent for the price, but I wouldn't come back unless invited to come back by a friend. I initially I thought you could only pick one protein but the waiter explained that you can order all of them on their list depending on lunch or dinner. The only reason why I docked several stars is because of their self serve bar. They have a great variety of options at the self serve bar, however some of the mushrooms and frozen seafood had a bit of an odd taste. Some servings of seafood and mushrooms were fine and others had a bit of a funky taste. Perhaps some had been thawed and refrozen or maybe sat at the bar a little too long. But I quickly spat out the ones that tasted off and I did not get sick. But I would advise the restaurant to perhaps change out some of the self-serve bar items a little more frequently. I'm quite appalled at how bad the service here was today. The restaurant was pretty full, and I think the ownership just way under staffs this restaurant. I personally needed to walk up to the weight staff for my own water, every meat refill, napkins, tongs, And soup refill. It wasn't just me because every table around us you need to do the same thing. It's unacceptable to have a restaurant require their patrons to walk up and request for items especially when there is a minimum gratuity added on. The main station in the middle was not properly managed where some of the sauce or the green onions were all empty. They didn't have serving plates and they were constantly trying to wash them and put them there. I should've known when the AYCE pricing was $10 cheaper than the other AYCE spots in the area. The 2 stars is mainly for the quality of the meat. It was just not good at all. I love goma sauce and even their sauce couldn't save them. It was just too watery. I had their pork bone soup and it also was not good. I will say that they had a nice and fresh selection of veggies and carbs and the area was clean... until it got busy. There were literally two people serving the entire restaurant so service was basic to none. And the cherry on top was that when we were leaving I felt like we were chased down by the owner or manager because he thought we were going to leave without paying. We had already paid the bill and were just sitting and resting before ultimately leaving to brace the cold weather. Came here to have lunch with a coworker. I like how clean the place is. There are many choices of veggie, dumplings, tofu and a sauce system to make your own sauce. After you order your soup and meats, there is a veggie bar with different kinds of veggies, mushrooms, noodles, fish balls, and seafood. There's also a sauce bar.
