This place is delish. I got my whole family hooked on it, and now everytime the 'rents come to visit me, they want to go here. It's great because we all get a good meal and they foot the bill...gotta love that! It's a nice, small place, but I don't come for the ambience. The stone pot rice is great, especially with the addition of the spicy chicken and/or kalbi ribs. mmmmm! The side dishes are great too, and they're really good at giving you refills on them if you want. The first time I took my mom here, a few days later, she called to tell me she was STILL dreaming of this place. Young Dong... not to be confused with Old Dong... is somewhat pretty ok for the food and being outside of Ktown. The bindaeduk pancake banchan was ok, but too oily and mushy... it was a nice touch though. The Kim chi tasted like cabbage with red spice flakes... no marination whatsoever. Bibim Neng Myun (Spicy Cold Noodles) are not very good here... but the Mandoo Soon Dobu (Dumpling Tofu Soup) was pretty good.. nice and creamy. The BBQ Bulgogi wasn't that bad either... in general.... its much better than BCD and its close to the SGV so it's a great combo.... Even though it has a C rating, it was still descent. Young Dong.. MMM, don't you just LOVE the smell of your own breath after consuming loads of kimchi and chili cucumbers? :) I came here with my boyfriend and two friends after reading reviews here on Yelp and after finding out my friend's friend's mom owns this place. Weeeeeee :) It's located inside a big plaza and can easily be missed if you don't know where you're going. Good thing I LOVEEE Joann's and it's in the same plaza so I had no trouble finding it at all. :) When I stepped inside, my first impression was that it was a quaint, little restaurant. A few groups eating, but totally not packed at all. We were greeted and told we can sit anywhere we want. Their menus come in those little disposable paper mats. They have lunch combos as well as dinner combos for only $1 more for dinner. The combos basically come with a tofu soup dish, meat dish, and the sides galoreeeeeeeeeeeeee. :) Yumyum, salivating just thinking about those chili cucumbers! =T Anyways, they also serve their tofu soups at $9 a pop. Let me tell you this.. I LOVELOVELOVEEEEE THEIR SPICY CHICKEN+TOFU combo. I got the dumpling tofu soup and it was M-M-M delicioussssss :) My friend had ordered just the tofu soup and I semi-wish I had done the same because the tofu soup itself can fill me up, but then if I had done that, I wouldn't have gotten to enjoy the mouth-watering spicy chicken, mmm! When I was younger, my mother started to work for Daewoo (car company) and she got into this huge Korean phase. She would learn the most basic Korean phrases like "ahn yung" and "kom sa mee daa" or whatever and tell every single Korean person those phrases. I would just sit there and cringe at how lame my mom is. Anyway, during this phase of hers, I had a lot of Korean food and I didn't like it at all. I used to get BBQ Short Ribs every frickin' time and got really sick of it. Nowadays, it's been years and I've since then gotten over that dreaded phase and so has my mom. I came here twice with my friends and began to appreciate Korean food. I still didn't get the short ribs, but I just get everything spicy because that's what I'm into these days. Spicy Chicken combo with Seafood Tofu Soup (spicy!). It's so good with that bowl of rice. I love tofu, I love soup, I love seafood, I love spice, I love chicken, I love onions, I love potato pancake, and I love ice water, but I just don't like kimchi or all the other sides they give. This is definitely my favorite place for Korean tofu soup. It's never too salty, and the broth is always perfectly seasoned. They put A LOT of tofu so people who want more soup might not enjoy it as much. The meat is also ridiculously good here. They always come sizzling off the grill. My preferences are 1) beef ribs 2) non-spicy chicken and 3) spicy pork. They also have beef bbq (without bones) and spicy chicken. The meat comes in large portions and plenty of onion underneath the meat. It does get a bit oily on the bottom, but it's just so good!!! You can definitely share a combination with two people because they give you a good amount of meat. The side dishes are also pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best but the kimchi is definitely better than a lot of places. It's fresh and well seasoned. They also have cucumber with chili sauce and some non-spicy sides such as seaweed and bean sprouts. Be prepared to have garlic breath after you eat the bean sprouts, though. Another plus about this place is they give every table a pancake as a side. It's one of those fried Korean pancakes made with carrots and potato? I'm not an expert on Korean food, but the pancake is really good with the sauce they give you. As for the service, I would have to say as long as you get your food and are acknowledged when you wave them down, it's good enough for this place. This place is normally packed with lots of people waiting outside. The servers are minimal so you always see them running around doing something for someone. I don't expect amazing service here so it's good enough in my opinion. Some tips: Definitely come here for lunch because it's cheaper. If you don't want to wait, try to come within the first half hour they open. Even on weekdays. Lastly, wear clothes you won't mind getting bbq smell on. The restaurant doesn't have a very good ventilation system so I would highly recommend wearing inexpensive clothing. read more

This is the perfect "AITE" go-to korean place whenever I come home for a visit! They've got all your staple unlimited korean dishes, which are my personal favorite parts of eating at korean restaurants. Then they've got your stone pot rice and meats, and your tofu soups, and your chop chae. Everything standard and is pretty good, but still nothing I would write home about. They give u plenty of oysters in the tofu soup! I just like having some solid korean food with all the taiwanese restaurants or canto cafes in the neighborhood, without having to drive all the way to K-town. I am a big fan of soondubu and am glad that such a place exists around the immediate area. Young Dong Tofu has as good of tofu soup as any other place I've eaten. I think my only complaint is that the waiters/waitresses don't pay a lot of attention to you. So things like getting your water refilled or check to pay is a little difficult. read more

Since I'm not really big on Korean food, I held back a star on the rating. It's pretty good if you want authentic, fresh, and attentive service. Their BBQ beef comes scalding hot on a "hot-rock" style plate with chopped onions --- all in generous portions and has a sweet BBQ flavor. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant despite the wait. Wait Time: Usually about an hr. It's ALWAYS packed when I come during dinner time, unless you come at like 3 in the afternoon. But its TOTALLY worth it Service: The lady that is ALWAYS there, I guess she's in charge, is super mean and unfriendly, thats why this place only gets a 4 star. It seems as if she never smiles, and doesnt want to bring you more side dishes. Ask the guys that work there, they are ALOT nice. The broth does not disappoint nor is it EVER watery, always pretty thick, so you know that they put sufficient ingredients. The fun part about the soup is when it first comes out and still boiling hard you get to crack your egg onto it ! 2. Claypot rice: I'm not a fan of eating hard rice, so once the claypot rice is brought out, the first thing i do is loosen the rice and scrap as much rice away from the sides as possible so it doesnt stick and harden when it cools. BE CAREFUL while you're doing this because the claypot is EXTREMELY hot. 3. choice of Meat: all the meat come in a skillet that is PILED HIGH, it's amazing how the meat never falls off the sides when its coming out. All of them are perfectly marinated, not overly salty, but enough to make your mouth water just smelling it. 4. Sides: All the sides such as kimchi, bean sprouts, spicy cucumbers, seaweed and etc.. are unlimited! The pancake, however, I think they only give one or two according to the number of your party. and they ALWAYS start out with a salad, which has amazing dressing For a combination which include all the above stated, its only for like 20$? What an awesome place! A Korean BBQ place (not self-bbq, but the cook-to-order variety) in Arcadia? Sweet. It's hard to find good Korean food places that aren't too gimmicky. The entrances of the restaurant are subtle and easy to miss - one off Baldwin Ave. and the other within the annex of the large parking lot by the closed up Yamaha store, Burlington's/JoAnn's and on the way other side of the parking lot, Pavilion's. The food is pretty decent. They add raw oysters to one of the kimchi banchan dishes, which I think is heaven in a dish. It is a bit spicier than some other kimchi dishes I have tried, but still palatable. I had the bulgogi beef & also the bibimbap, and the sheer quantity of the food was quite good, even for a massive eater like myself. I feel so sorry for the dishwasher in the back, but I'm using up all your plates, man. The decor is ok. It has some nice touches, like a glass partition with bamboo etchings, etc., and a replica of a old fashioned door on the wall. The ceiling is a bit outdated, and some of the moldings are dingy. But the slate tiled walls are a nice touch. Otherwise, the place is relatively low key. I would not go here for Prom, but a small group of very hungry friends would be well suited. Found this place after going to the 626 Night Market which wasn't too good because unlike the Traditional Taiwanese night market the vendors weren't able to serve fast enough so there were really long lines. And it was pretty overpriced: $6 for TWO egg rolls?! -__- But this Tofu place was pretty good. It was really small so we had to wait around 15 minutes for a table. It was pretty chaotic with the waitresses trying to serve everyone, clear tables and seat those who were waiting and there wasn't really any place to wait but someone from your party has to be inside to hear if you were called so it became a clusterf*** pretty fast. As for the food the sides were not bad I really liked the cucumbers and the fish cakes but the Kimchi had a fishy/oyster taste to it and it wasn't the normal kind so that was disappointing. Seaweed salad was really yummy, the dressing was awesome. I ordered the mushroom tofu soup medium spicy and it wasn't too spicy so if you like spice definitely go spicy or extra-spicy. There was lots of tofu in the soup but not too many mushrooms. They give you a huge hot stone side of rice with your soup too so that was a nice surprise. We also got a complementary Korean pancake but it was mostly dough so didn't really eat much of that. All in all it was an okay experience but i've had better soondubu... This place is honestly the best place to go to for your Korean food cravings. I've been coming here ever since I was a young girl, and it hasn't changed much. Depending on what time you get here, there might be no wait to a small wait to a wait up to probably god knows how long. The food here is impeccable. Once you have been seated at your table and have placed your order, you get you typical variety of ban chan, which is Korean for side dishes. I love the bean sprouts and the seaweed. The pancake is really a hit or miss for me because I like mine crispy. But that's just personal preference. I love getting their spicy tofu soups in medium spice. I've always gotten beef tofu soup or beef with octopus tofu soup, but now I usually order the mushroom tofu soup. I just love the spice and the flavor. It just fills you up. Occasionally when I'm not feeling the hot tofu soup, I order the bibimbap or the pork or fish katsu. Both so delicious and full of flavor. The bibimbap is just assorted vegetables along with beef bulgogi, rice, and topped with a fried egg. You just mix it up and eat! The pork or fish katsu is great because it's always perfectly crisp and goes great with rice and with the sauce it comes along with. I love the service here, which is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the SG one (I did a review for that location). But I hope to be back! P.S. I used to love this place when it was a mom and pop run restaurant but after it changed owner, this place has not been the same. First of all the banchan offered are all mediocre. My favorite thing about Korean restaurants aren't usually the main entrees but the BANCHAN!!! I was really disappointed in every banchan dish they offered. I usually get soondubu here but decided on this visit to get the spicy naengmyeon (cold noodles) and was also disappointed. They barely gave any cucumbers and there was no slices of meat. It was just plain buck wheat noodles, lettuce and sauce. Usually at other places there are pickled radishes or meat but there was none of that. If you're craving for food here I suggest sticking to the soon and grilled meat. If you're willing to drive a little further, I suggest going somewhere else. read more

Ever since one of my gfs introduced me to Young-Dong several years ago, I've been returning to this place with family and different friends over and over again. I've tried almost everything on their menu and enjoyed all. My absolute favorite is their Dolsot Bibimbap, have not been able to love another! I adore all their banchans too, all come in generous portions and they are always happy to give you more if you like any particular ones. :) All these times I've been there, I didn't think there was a lack of service. Coming from my hometown of Garden Grove, I have been looking for a tofu house that was on par with some of the ones in Korea Town in OC. My quest has been complete with Young Dong. Food: Burnt rice FTW! Oh man I love the burnt rice and I could not find a tofu house in this area that had the rice cooked like that until Young Dong! This is a big deal for me because it's the one large determining factor for finding a good tofu house. In addition, the food here is served very hot off the grill and their bulgolgi is amazing. Just be warned you'll be smelling like your food afterwards, so be sure to head home before heading out again to wash off that smell... Service: SO nice and attentive! The waiters are very accomodating to large groups as well, even though I know it's a burden for them. They always check up on us if we need anything and if we received everything, as it should be. Environment/Location: The place is located in the large plaza with Burlington Coat Factory, and it's pretty easy to see once you are in. The plaza has plenty of parking so you won't find any trouble there. The inside is a little small, so expect waits if you are going at dinner time. It's a great place for large groups... if you don't mind the wait. They will accomodate you if you are willing to wait a bit. Overall: 4/5 Great food, great service, burnt rice!!!!! Large parking lot. This is the best place I've been to since moving away from Garden Grove. Docked points for the small tables inside, but it shouldn't keep you away from trying this place out. It's actually 3 and a half but I just rounded up. My friend took me to this tofu house with a money back guarantee. hehe meaning if I don't like it, she would pay for my food. This is my absolute favorite place to get Korean food when I'm in town! While it may be small, and the wait might take awhile on a Saturday night, the food is well worth the wait. For $15, you can get a tofu soup, meat dish (galbi, bulgogi, or chicken), and side dishes galore - easily feeding two people. The tofu soups, regardless of type, all tend to have the same delicious, spicy taste. My personal favorites are the octopus fried rice and the spicy cold noodles - they just hit the spot every time. The one thing I love about this place are the clay-pots, all that burnt rice just adds to the meal. The sides are always really good and plentiful, and you even get a green bean pancake thats crispy and delicious, almost a meal in itself. Ah, the long lines and the high amounts of MSG. The tofu soup here is pretty tasty and the galbee is good here too, for the price you pay. This isn't the place where you want to go for good quality Korean BBQ but where else can you get galbee and tofu soup for one good price? Our waiter kept on screwing up our order. He forgot one of the orders and kept trying to push a vegetarian to take the seafood soup. Not cool. This establishment is small so be prepared to wait a while for a table, especially if you have a party more than four. Also, be prepared to bring the ear plugs because this place is small and reflects sound as if you are in an echo canyon, unless you're the loud talker, then don't worry about a thing. It was a pretty decent amount, don't think we even finished the meal, but then again I can't remember how hungry we were. Girls night out for dinner + movie. I was the first to pull up to the restaurant and holy moly.. a huge mob of customers waiting outside. I put down a # for our party and the wait was about 20 minutes. Not bad considering there was about 8 people before me. The 3 of us ordered Combo #1 and Combo #2 + another tofu soup. The beef ribs were good, spicy pork was decent (had better). The tofu soup was really good! Better than BCD! The side dishes were tasty and the staff was nice even after hustling their butts off for a huge crowd. This place is a bit far from me and random to get Korean BBQ, but I would definitely eat here again. They also have yummy boba/tapioca in the same plaza across the way at Au79 (super Asian btw). It's a decent tofu place without having to go to K-town. I thought the tofu itself was a little less than stellar. Just wasn't as flavorful as I like. I recently discovered this place and loved it since it's so close to where I live. I used to go to the location in san gabriel and it's somewhat a longer drive. This location is small and the interior is not as nice as the other location. However, the food here is 5 stars. I usually order their lunch/dinner special which includes all the little vegetable dishes, a soup, a choice of meat, and rice. I love their oyster tofu soup and beef rib combo. The customer service here is pretty good. It can get really busy around dinner time and since the place is relatively small with approximately 10 tables, you might have to wait a bit but it's worth it. My friend highly recommended this place to me, seating was really quick on a sunday early dinner. They give you some salad and pancake to start off. I ordered the oyster tofu, which was pretty delicious, all my friends got some form of tofu and I think they all liked it. We had some kalbi on a bed of onions served on a hot palte as well, which was equally good. We got the usual side dishes fair, kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumbers (my favorite), seaweed (my friend really likes), and a couple other ones I don't remember too well. When I don't feel like driving to K-town, this is where I'd come to get my Korean tofu soup fix. Well, actually... 1) It takes me about 10-15 minutes to get to Young-Dong from where I live. It's about the same amount of time it takes me to get to K-town... 2) There are times that I would stick to the tofu soup, but I was pleasantly surprised by their Tonkatsu... sorry, Donkasu. Usually comes with about the right amount of batter, and the pork itself isn't dry either. Good portions too. You can find me eating this dish quite often. The tofu soup is good too. I prefer my go-to place on K-town (So Kong Dong), but Young-Dong isn't bad at all. My fat ass would get the combination along with a sizzling plate of Kalbi as well. Comes with a good selection of banchan (and I love my cucumber kimchi). Parking situation is great as Young-Dong is within the massive plaza where the Pavilions is at. However, expect to wait a bit if you go there during peak hours especially on weekends. Haven't had bad service here, at least not yet. read more

So this is the Arcadia branch of the tofu restaurant with the same name in San Gabriel. Though this one is further from my house and smaller, it usually has a shorter wait during dinnertime. Though not by much. If you come at 6:00 PM, be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes. Obviously we're not in Ktown here but this place is good for Korean food in the SGV. The tofu soup is good, they give you a lot of banchan, and service is quick. I've never had a bad experience here. My usual is the dumpling tofu soup and I usually get it spicy. This restaurant is in a large shopping center at the corner of Duarte and Baldwin. You can't enter from the street so you have to drive into the parking lot and look for the restaurant. This rating is for their side dishes. I love that they are not stingy about giving more of the side dishes unlike many Korean restaurants I have been to. They give: kimchi (good), spicy cucumbers (good), bean sprouts, seaweed (my favorite), and something else (either turnip or apple, I've honestly never tried that one). Their menu selection is not very big, but they have a variety of Tofu Dishes, Dolsot Bibimbap, Chap Chae, Cold Noodles (I think), and have the essential meats chicken, pork, seafood, and beef (Bulgogi). Usually my friends will get the Spicy Chicken + Tofu, and they always seem to be satisfied with their meal. This is the only decent Korean Soondubu place in the Arcadia area. I come here when I'm craving Korean food but too lazy to drive over to Ktown. I used to always get the seafood soondubu (still good) until I discovered the extra spicy mushroom soon dubu. The extra spicy here isn't as spicy as those korean restaurants in ktown. I love how there's a generous amount of enoki mushroom in the soup. By the way, the banchan is good and the Kalbi is good as well too. read more

This place is my go-to place for soon doo boo since the owner changed about a couple of years ago. I haven't had a chance to do a review yet until now. The banchan is always good and is refilled happily. The tofu and the bbq are on point as well. What makes this place so good is the owner and his wife. This couple is the epitome of how restaurant owners should behave. The husband always greets and says good bye to all customers and is the one that is bussing the tables! Which 1st Gen Korean male does that? In looking at his wife, you know that she is one that goes 110 mph all day, every day. THIS COUPLE DEFINITELY LEADS BY EXAMPLE! When I get the bill, I have absolutely no problems giving them 20% easily! It's the best because it combines seafood and beef together. So innovative and delicious. Who would've thought of putting the two most delicious soups into one?! Jk but it's really good. Put the egg in immediately after they give you the boiling tofu soup. I like to break the egg and stir it up! The stone rice is so yummy. I like to leave the crunchy part on the stone bowl and when i'm done with the rest of my rice, I ask them to pour hot tea into the stone to soften the rice stuck on the sides and eat it. It becomes like a rice porridge! If you come with one other person, you can get a combo and an extra rice and just split the soup and whatever else you get with the combo :) cheaper and good proportions. read more

Nothing can go wrong with tofu soup :) I love that they serve a lot of side dishes and the food came out fast enough before we are full with side dishes. Since I've been trying their tofu soup and it was hot weather day, so I ordered the cold buckwheat noodle. Nyam! Perfect for the weather and looks healthy lol actually... I just found out that this cold noodle has 2700ish mg of sodium. Dang! read more
