Went here for lunch on December 27th and got food poisoning for the first time. My whole family did the next morning. Enjoyed the food and restaurant experience, however my family and I felt horrible later. It took us nearly 4 days to completely recover. The food tasted pretty good. We ordered the combo with bulgogi and seafood tofu soup, and another combo with spicy pork and mushroom tofu soup. Also, a side of chapchae noodles. If I didn't get sick, I would probably go back because the food tasted good like many other people have reviewed. So, please everyone use caution when going here. Sometimes you don't want to drive all the way to Korea town for some tofu soup. It's a simple to the point tofu joint. Tofu soup is what they are known for and that's what they are good at. Understand that they do get busy and the wait do get long. But if you have that tofu soup fix...... do try them out. read more

This restaurant is *authentic*. I'm saying this as someone born in Korea and raised on homemade Korean food for the entirety of my life. The food tastes just as it should. Simple ingredients, flavors you can only get from homemade food, presented the way it should be. Traditional, authentic, delicious. Be sure to ask them for some boricha. It's a warm barley tea that goes excellently with whatever item you will order on their menu, I guarantee this. I drink this at home in lieu of water. The flavor is simple but so so good. I also recommend the bibimbap. Use plenty of sesame seed oil and a healthy amount of the chili sauce. It's to die for. A last tip. When you order rice and they bring it out in the stone pot, treat yourself to a traditional Korean dessert by scooping all of the rice out of the pot and into an extra bowl, leaving the burnt rice that has stuck onto the sides of the pot behind. Then, add water to the now-emptied pot. Not enough to fill it to the brim, just enough to reach all the pieces of rice that have stuck to the stone pot. By the time you finish your meal, you will have noticed that the rice has changed color (should be amberish almost instantly) and is now fluffier. Take a spoon and scrape the rice off of the sides of the pot. Swirl the mixture of burnt rice and water around, and dig in. The dessert should be sweet and warmed from the heat retained by the stone pot. It's surprisingly good. Don't waste your burnt rice! read more

First off, let me say their food was good and worth the price. I would have given this place 4 stars, but their service was so horrible I had to knock off a star. We came here on a Monday night and it was packed. Actually, we went to the Young-Dong in San Gabriel first, and the wait was not worth it (40 minutes for tofu?!) so we decided to drive down and check out the one in Arcadia. There was still a wait, but not as bad. We got seats within 15 minutes or so which wasn't bad. However, all the waiters and waitresses there totally ignored us. After 15 minutes of sitting we just signaled for help and then they finally came. We didn't get our food until probably 30 minutes later and they were so slow to bring everything out. Anytime we needed something (drink refills, napkins, spoons, etc) we had to signal for help, which didn't even come right away. Even the check, I had to go up to the cashier and ask them as they didn't even bother coming to us. Anyway, horrible service aside, I ordered #1, the Korean Short ribs with Tofu Soup. The food was good. The tofu soup was hot with just the right amount of kick to it. They actually gave a generous serving of short ribs, which I was surprised with. All of this for $16 bucks! The biggest plus to this restaurant is the price. For about 10 bucks a person you really can't go anywhere else(that I know of) that would give you an equal or better Korean cuisine experience. I have eaten at Young-Dong Tofu several times and I have been satisfied on each visit. I would say that this is one of the best Korean Tofu places I have been too. The service is great and the sides are delicious. Service: This servers are very nice and always make sure you have everything you need. Waters are always filled and they are vary gracious about filling up the side dishes. Food: The food is yummy. I normally order the combination which is a meat and tofu dish. While all the meats are delicious, my favorites are the kalbi and the bulgogi. As for the tofu, I always order the dumpling tofu. The food is very good. I also love the sides, especially the cucumber and the seaweed. Both are very good. The beansprouts are also quite good. Overall good Korean food. It is probably the best that I know of in the area. Sometimes this place can get very busy. The also have an additional location in San Gabriel off of Las Tunas. read more

This is the original Young Dong Tofu house. Food here is consistent and delicious. Short Ribs and the tofu soup and their free appetizers. Only difference of course for me is the rush service because of the many people that they have to serve. I hope that customers would not be expecting too much when the place is busy. But I will be coming back here whenever I like to eat bibimbap, short ribs and seafood or oyster tofu soup. read more

This place wasn't actually the destination we were going to go but the other nearby restaurant was too busy so we did not feel like waiting, so we went here. The lunch specials are a great deal here. I got the beef bulgogi and dumping tofu soup. The food comes out quick and it has always tasted great. The sides are also great. I don't remember there being anything special about the service, but the staff was pleasant. The atmosphere is very casual, so I think it's best to come here during lunch time. Upon first glance, the place looks very dead from the outside. Windows are tinted and the shop is a little small looking. As soon as you open the door and are greeted and seated by the wait staff, you notice that it is actually QUITE busy inside. We sat in the back since the front was packed. It was a little quieter and service didn't suffer just because we were out of direct eye sight. The food here was really good and hearty. We ordered the galbi with beef tofu soup combo and a kimchi pork tofu soup. As I said, the soup was very hearty and a little thicker than BCD Tofu House. You get the usual side dishes like kimchi, seaweed, salad and a pancake. The food arrives in hot stone pots and definitely stays HOT for a while. My soup dried a little because I ate the tofu last (if that matters?) and they did not hesitate to give me a little more soup to finish off my rice. i love me some young dong! (ok, that sounds weird.) young dong is the first place we think of when we crave soon dubu and we use it as the gold standard against all other soon dobu places. not only is it close but it's better than, dare i say, beverly soon dubu in ktown! ban chan is better than average -- at least i can eat most of the dishes. you will also get a fried mung bean cake and salad with seasame dressing. i haven't even started on the main course. soon dubu is awesome and so are the meat dishes. we usually go for the kim chi beef soon dubu and the spicy pork/mandoo soon tofu. dinner averages out to be $28 (including the tip) and we always take home leftovers for another meal for two since portions are so generous. service was considered an issue by some yelpers but we never had a problem. if they're busy, i can see service taking a dive but we've always been treated with great service. i'd be so lost (and pissed) w/o young dong if it closed! read more

This place wasn't too bad. I've seen this tofu house plenty of times when driving by or when I went to Ross (which is now closed) but never tried it. Service wasn't too bad, although it was lacking. I ordered the spicy chicken with beef tofu soup. The soup was just like any other place... yummy. I had ordered it medium spicy and it wasn't spicy at all.. it was more boiling hot than anything. The spicy chicken... oh my gawd. I've ordered it at other places and they were spicy, but they were still edible. This place... holy crap. It was like slathered and swimming in hot sauce. For the little plate they served it on, it's like they poured the whole chili sauce bottle over it. I took some of the chili off and and it is this thick paste. The beef bulgolgi was very flavorful in their marinade. I liked this more than the chicken. Plenty of different banchans to choose and pick from. They were all good. read more

There was already a list of people waiting. Since it was 2 of us we got seated right away. Looked around and more than 50% were Korean.. good sign. The menu was pretty basic Tofu house.. Tofu stews and BBQ meat combinations. We ordered: Kimchi and Beef Tofu Soup (Med Spice) - Good flavor, good soup base.. but could have been spicer for Med. Seafood Tofu Soup ( med-spice) w/ Kalbi Ribs combo - Good portion for a combo. Nicely charred and marinade was good. Enough for doggie bag. Loved the free savory mung bean pancake that come with the ponzu diping sauce. Super crispy. I could have had 3 of these. Perfect appetizer. Side dishes were the real deal. Even found the raw baby oysters in my kimchi.. yum! Good variety.. about 6 different dishes. Very generous amounts and were very friendly whne asked to refill. I love soon dubu and purely tastewise this is one of my favorite places. I love their thick soupy tasteful broth, the soondubu, the many clams they put in that are never sandy. However, service is a real bitch. My bf and I came here after the pasadena half marathon for dinner because I wanted comfort food pretty badly. Being my sweet man he went with it though its not his favorite. We came fairly early around 5:15 for dinner and were not seated immediately though they easily could have. For ordering we had to wait until I finally flagged a waitress down, and for every little thing, I had to stop a waitress that was passing by. I do like their food came out fairly quick, and that they brought us a jun. The banchan is good but portions not huge or anything and not especially good either. Prices are kind of ridiculous for what you get, it's $9.20 for soondubu, and $18 dollars for a mini soondubu, galbi combo. 18 fuckin dollars?!?! This is one of the big reasons why I had to knock off a star because this is just too ridiculous for soondubu. We also got our soondubu early but they didn't bring out the galbi until halfway through (until again, I flagged a waitress down and asked about it). It wasn't that great anyway, the grease pool was ridiculous and the portion eh. As much as I love their soondubu, I think I'll go elsewhere next time, and stick with Beverly soondubu in ktown. read more

Came here for dinner mid-week. Ordered the seafood beef tofu. We got here a bit early so there wasn't much of a wait, usually it's very crowded around 7:00 pm. Food is always consistent, it isn't overly amazing, but it hits the spot when it's cold and rainy and you're craving something soupy. The ban chan dishes are always replenished. I do notice that the times I've come here, their prices keep going up...now it's $9.25 per soontofu dish. Almost $20 if you get the combo w/ meat! read more

Love this place! They are understaffed and there's usually a wait time if you go during peak hours but the food is worth it =P Dinner prices are about $1-$2 more than lunch prices but you get significantly more! But the cool part is if you go during lunch.. you can ask for the dinner portion ;) Cant really go wrong even if you let a blindfolded monkey choose your order, but the safest choices would be the Tofu + short rib or sliced beef combination. Make sure you get the SPICY tofu soup =). It's served with stone pot rice and it's delicious. They are pretty generous with their side dishes too =P Definitely a casual place, can get hectic at times but it's somewhere I'd go both with my friends and my family and yes they take credit card =) read more

The menu actually has korean and chinese on it. interesting. I got the combo of tofu with the beef. I LOVE this one side dish that they have. Its some kind of korean pancake! omg... that pancake is so good and its not served at other korean restaurants ive been to. Not having metal chopsticks is a clear sign for a Korean restaurant to be not authentic, or in this case at least not sincere to its customers. I was unimpressed with my cold noodle, and the ingredients did not taste very fresh, I feel like I just picked up a ready to eat noodle box from a Walmart and it was on sale for close to going bad. Our favorite Korean restaurant in the SG Valley. The banchan are plentiful and just the right level of spicyness. They will also refill it upon request, though what they give you at the outset is often enough. My kids love the potato pancakes that come with the banchan. The portions are generous, especially for dinner. My wife and I can share the dinner combo of galbi and seafood hot pot (soup), and be totally stuffed. Know that on Fridays and Saturdays there will be a wait. But they do turn the tables over pretty quickly and I've never waited longer than 20 minutes on any given visit (and I've been here over 15 times). read more

The tofu pot seemed to be a lot hotter than other places because my egg was actually fully cooked. Usually the yolk ends up being a bit soft. I love coming here for the bbq beef ribs and the sides. The ribs taste much better than just getting the bbq beef. The non spicy chicken is also another great dish to get BUT not as great as the bbq beef ribs. (Do you notice a trend here? HINT HINT -- get the bbq beef ribs!) I had the bulgogi and it wasn't bad. Just a little sweeter than what I'm used to. Their side dishes are okay, but quite a few of them had kimchi (which I am not a huge fan of).. =X I haven't tried their tofu, so I'll probably come back again for that or if I'm in a desperate need of some Korean food since it's close by where I live. Overall, it's an alright place for some food, but a little bit pricey. With the number of restaurants around the area, I'd probably pass on this and head to one of the cheaper Asian restaurants/cafes down the street. read more
