Tried Souza's Fish House for the first time a couple weeks ago. And it was so good that we had to make a trip back the following week! The first time we went was because my boyfriend had ordered their Kona crab poke. It was delish! The shell is harder than the crab they sell at Foodland, but the meat of the crab was tasty! A little sweeter and the kimchee sauce had the perfect flavor. Both times we went I had their trio donburi which comes with akami, chutoro, salmon, hamachi and ikura. It also comes with some little sides and sushi rice. All the fish toppings on top are to die for! I literally kept saying "mmmm" and doing a happy dance lol Their sushi rice is a little on the sweeter side. We also tried their cold ginger poke and spicy. Both were amaaazing. Can't wait till we go back again! And this time I think I'll try a different donburi and diffferent types of poke. Staff is super nice and friendly. They make your order pretty fast even when they're busy. But the only hard part is their parking. We had a really hard time finding parking the first time we went so it would be best if you have someone drop you off and wait in the car somewhere until you get your order. Absolutely AMAZING experience with Souza's Fish House every time! My family and I honestly cannot say enough good things about Souza's Fish House and how incredible our experience was having him be part of our wedding day! He has also catered sashimi for my father in-law's birthday and his work just never disappoints which is why my mother in law wanted to order from him again for our wedding. My in-laws actually surprised my fiancé and I by getting Souza's Fish House for our wedding, and we are SO grateful they did. We had a beautiful sashimi setup prepared for our guests, enough for up to 150 people, and not only was everything absolutely fresh and delicious, but he went above and beyond and threw in extras for us! That was such an unexpected and thoughtful gesture, and our guests absolutely loved it. It was definitely one of the highlights of our wedding for cocktail hour. We had so many people come up to us throughout the night telling us how amazing the sashimi was and the overall presentation. When you're hosting a wedding with so many guests, you always hope everyone enjoys the food, but it was so nice hearing so many compliments about it all night long! Beyond the food, what really stood out was how kind, accommodating, and generous he was. You could genuinely tell that Ryan cared about making our experience special and wanted to make sure we had more than enough for our guests. He surprised us with our own heart shaped sashimi platter that we were given at our sweetheart table so we wouldn't have to worry about missing out on what our guests got to enjoy. Was expecting to splurge a lot of $ but the price is really reasonable esp for the chutoro/otoro which is usually hella expensive for just the fish itself. Got the chutoro/otoro and trio deluxe donburis, as well as 1/4 Spice Hurricane and Maui Onion poke... SO GOOD AND SO FRESH. The sashimi had such vibrant colors with a nice thick cut. Both donburi's were filling. I actually preferred the chutoro over the otoro as the otoro was super buttery imo but that's just me. Fish overall was 10000/10! Coming off a long flight from Chicago, I wanted good local and non-touristy place that served fresh poke and this was the spot! I was craving poke nachos and came across Souza's Fish House in Mapunapuna. Although it was a bit of a drive to get there, I was determined to go based on all the 5 star reviews. And let me tell you, it definitely lived up to all the hype! This is a little hole -in-the-wall in an industrial area. There's only a few parking spots in front, so you'll need to find street parking if you're not one of the lucky ones. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendliest employees! I ordered the Poke Nachos (2 choices) for $20. I chose the Shoyu Ahi and the Hawaiian Salt Ahi. I asked if they could separate the poke from the chips since I planned to eat it later on, and they kindly put the poke in separate containers so I could keep the poke cold in my fridge. When I finally dived into my poke nachos, it was so delicious! I combined everything together and it was one of the best poke nachos I've ever had. It looks like the proportions are small, but the dish was deep and had a generous amount inside. I gotta say it was super flavorful and tasty with the crab salad on the side. Souza's is a hidden gem for fresh sashimi and poke at a great price. Located in Mapunapuna in the old Kau Kau Grill location, the shop is suited for takeout and probably gets busy during lunch. They offer a variety of sashimi donburi as well as fresh poke, and what really stood out for me was the quality for the price. You can get their "Souza Special" don which includes ahi, chutoro, otoro, salmon, hamachi, and ikura for $27. That is the higher end of their selections, with other combinations of fish being cheaper. My favorite of this combo was actually the chutoro, which was extremely soft and had the perfect amount of marbling. The otoro was on the firmer side but was also excellent. I also got some spicy ahi poke to try, and it had a nice depth of flavor. The freshness of their fish really shines through. Even the sides that come with each bowl are elevated. I especially loved the crab salad and their homemade taegu, which used the more stringy type dried fish and had a sauce that tasted like honey gochujang. While waiting for our food, I saw that they also offer sashimi platters, custom sushi cakes, and a poke nacho bar that can be hired to pop up at events. Prices were on point too! Wow for a little fish house in Mapunupuna this place is awesome! I honesty believe if you don't expect much you won't be disappointed, ha ha I really need to rethink that philosophy. Seeing several check-ins on Yelp then reading the reviews I've been trying to get in but couldn't get there early enough to be assured parking or a fully available menu. Since they're closed Sunday & Monday I felt Tuesday would insure everything would be at its best. I arrived at 10:00 just at opening and scored one of the two parking stalls fronting the business. Walking in it's very small inside...no tables, strictly takeout. I was first in, placed my order for the Fish House Chirashi, half pound of Shoyu/ginger Ahi poke and half pound Spicy Ahi. Waiting for my order to be put together a duo of HPD officers came in wanting to order but were unsure. I was impressed that they were able to try several different pokes and the owner Ryan told them they could make it spicier or less spicy as they wanted. That's good to know. So I took my lunch home and ran off to finish my morning errands. About 1:00 I grabbed the Chirashi and a pair of chopsticks, opened the box and started eating the best sashimi ever! Loved the sushi rice, the scoop of crab salad, the tasty condiments and both the ala carte pokes which I actually bought for g-son Wes who said the same thing I said.....tastes like it just came off the boat. I was curious, drove over, and found free street parking since the stalls in front of the shop were all taken! This is a cozy, clean, takeout only place. The cashier was efficient and pleasant! I ordered the Trio Deluxe with Otoro, hamachi, salmon, ikura, and akami on a bed of sushi rice and decorated with an imitation crab salad, wasabi, takuan, and a konnyaku/gobo salad. The fish were fresh and firm. The imitation crab salad was a bit odd and the sushi rice was inconsistent - soft, in some places and a few harder grains of rice in other places. Souza is a newest poke store opened on Mapunapuna Street. I drove there at 10am and they're just opened. The store wasn't too big but it's very clean. There are few parkings outside the store as well as street parking. I order Souza Special. Although it costs $27 b it definitely worth it. The sashimi was so fresh. We got a trio of the 3 types of ahi and a Souza special plate and a half pound of Maui onion crunch ahi poke. The quality of the fish is outstanding for a hole in the wall. The otoro was fatty and melted in my mouth. The chu toro was also very good. The sushi rice is good and I like how they add a few other things like takuan and daikon for texture and crunch. The Souza plate has a good variety of fish and I'll say the best things were the salmon, otoro and ikura. Their Ikura was better than a lot of high end sushi restaurants serve!!! I've been hearing a lot of great things about Souza's Fish House, so I had to stop by and finally try their poke bowl and it definitely lived up to the hype. Parking in the area can be a bit tough, but there are a few stalls right in front of the shop which helps if you get lucky. Just looking at the poke selection, you can already tell the quality is there. I went with a two choice bowl with Hurricane and Maui Onion Crunch. The bowl also came with crab salad, taegu, and sushi rice. The fish was incredibly fresh honestly some of the freshest poke I've ever had. Both flavors were excellent, and now I'm already planning to go back to try more of their unique options. The only thing I'd change next time is getting regular rice instead of sushi rice, since I'm not a big fan of the texture and sweetness, but I'm still glad I tried it. Nothing get's in my way when I'm craving raw fish ie, eating the donburi in the nearby Home Depot parking lot three minutes away. Sashimi and sliced fish for the donburi of excellent quality and proper grading. Natural, not treated with gas. Nicely cut into relatively even slices. The donburis come complete with either a decently seasoned, slightly too wet sushi rice or better yet, plain white rice, and the requisite ginger, takuan, wasabi and shoyu. The "Fish House Chirashi", a combo of akami, chutoro, otoro, hamachi, king salmon, ikura dn hokkaido uni is good intro for just $35 BUT why not, indulge on the good stuff, a chutoro / otoro donburi add ikura and hokkaido uni for just $38. Very well made poke. Trying the familiar "Hawaiian style ahi", recently made (fish is not slimy from being in contact with the shoyu too long), kiss of sesame, and just the right amount of sweet Maui onions. Saw a friend post the Souza Special on their instagram and I had to try. Highly suggest putting in a phone order as a lot of people come here. Fish quality is top tier and the fish cut's are chef's kiss. If you're thinking of sharing a sashimi plate... don't. I had one for myself and a friend had ordered one to share with her other half and it left them wanting more. Their spicy ahi is delicious and not over powered by all the seasonings. I saw Souza's fish house all over Instagram so I had to check them out. Honestly, I thought I've had some pretty good poke but this is some next level stuff. I went once and now I take all of my partners there when in the Mapunapuna area. Each one of them are blown away by the variety and quality of the fish. The flavors they mix are next level and this is the only place I've been buying poke from for the past few months. My go to is the Lao style and salty hawaiian style (can choose either sweet or salty). Their donburis and Souza special are solid too! The staff is always super friendly and knowledgeable about the flavors. Although parking is rather limited there is a good chance you can find some street parking near. Go check em out. I finally got to go to get the fresh sashimi. Small little shop but as soon as you enter, you feel a positive vibe. It's bright and the menu boards are all up. There is a showcase with all their poke to the right of the cashier. Went in early to beat any lunch rush for I didn't want that. Got their trio lunch bento with sushi rice on the side. I also added 1/2 pound of spicy ahi. The poke was delicious and not stringy. The flavor is delicate not too too spicy, but who doesn't own sriracha at home? The bento sashimi was absolutely phenomenal. My elderly parents shared one bento so the price was perfect for two! Even if you were to eat this fish for one, it's a good price for the quality of fish you get. I will definitely be ordering my sashimi platter for Christmas Eve as well as poke. It had Akami, Chutoro, Otoro, King Salmon, Japan Hamachi, Zuke Ikura. Everything was awesome. Notable was the fatty & buttery Otoro that melted in your mouth. the Chutoro was also pretty good with the balanced marbling. You get a choice of sushi rice or white rice or toss salad plus shoyu, ginger, wasabi, & takuan. You can tell from the cuts and presentation that this was done by an experienced fish cutter. When I opened my takeout box, one look and I knew this was a winner! The super friendly service is amazing. It's run by local people who are helpful with suggestions and provide samples to help you decide. It's take out only but there's a few benches outside to sit on. There's around 3 parking stalls. It's not cheap but pretty reasonable for premium quality fish. Also notable is the impressive catering menu selection. Old Kau Kau Grill spot. Parking right in front or on the street. Not the greatest parking during peak hours, but since its only a take out place, cars go in and our pretty quickly. As for the food, you can't go wrong with their fish. Price is very reasonable and they offer pretty good quality fish. Everyone i know who have ate here always had good things to say and I back everything they say. It would be best to call and order ahead, especially with platters, but the staff inside for walk-in take outs are very fast. I first heard of this place when they joined in on our "food truck" themed company celebration. I enjoyed what they put out that night and kept going back for more. Anyway, I was so excited when I heard they were opening up a store front in Mapunapuna down the street from Fisher's. I finally made my way to town about a 20 minute drive from my house to try more or their menu. I made a phone order as wasn't sure how fast they'd sell out. I ordered the akami/hamachi donburi which was their cheapest donburi. I also ordered some poke. A half pound of the Maui Onion Crunch, quarter pound of the lao style poke, and quarter pound of the spicy ahi. The fish is so fresh! The donburi came with maybe 5-6 slices of sashimi per fish. They even use sushi rice with it which is a win! They add a little crab salad and i think is lotus root. As for the poke, they put the crunch for the Maui Onion poke on the side. They did the same with the lao style but the sauce for it. That was my favorite was the the lao style. Something different from your normal poke choices. It's a little spicy but it is so good! The parking is a little challenging as there seemed to be only two stalls in front of their store other than that there's street parking but that is also challenging because some areas are blocked off with no parking signs.
