Being a breakfast person, I have to have eggs every weekend since I can never have them during the week, so brunch is my favorite time of the weekend. And my vote for best brunch in the EV is definitely Yuca Bar. They have a $15 pre fixe brunch which gets you your meal, coffee/tea, AND a bloody mary/mimosa/screwdriver. Personally I always get the breakfast burrito, which is fantastic. I always get the home fries, which has potatoes and sweet potatoes in it. Awesome. The portion is big as well, I can never finish the whole plate. When the weather's nice, you can sit outside as well, which makes for a nice Saturday/Sunday morning or afternoon, depending on how much you drank the night before. The Smith always get the pub in the EV for whatever reason, but it's food doesn't come close to Yuca Bar. Meanwhile you'll wait for an hour at The Smith but you can always sit right down at Yuca Bar. Hmm, maybe I shouldn't be telling everyone this, as I don't want to have to wait for my burrito. read more

I went to Yuca Bar on Friday night with my girlfriend, both her and I am are now in love with the place. I would first like to add we are latino so our expectations of latin american food is high. We were initially going to another restaurant, but ended up here when we heard the music and saw the crowd inside. The music selection was excellent they were playing all the goodies (Mana, Juanes, Marc Anthony) I couldn't have asked for a better latin music selection. The place was a bit crowded and our seats were less than ideal. Unfortunately, we were seated literally inches from another couple, but what restaurant lacked in space they made up for with thier food and drinks. We ordered a platano relleno which I HIGHLY recommend. The platano relleno is a full fried sweet bannana plantain stuffed with roasted pork (traditional cuban style), drizzled with sour cream on top. The sweet plantain in combination with the salty flavorful pork is honestly a masterpiece, and the sour cream gives it that creamy delicious aftertaste. My only regret is not ordering another one. For our main course we ordered the paella which was better than average. The rice and chorizo were delicious, but i have had better seafood (not that it was terrible). My girlfriend and i split the paella and platano relleno which was enough for the two of us. For drinks I ordered a mojito which was strong (exactly the way i like it) and it was perfect. My girlfriend ordered two margarita's, one was frozen and one wasn't. Im not a fan of frozen drinks so i didn't try it, but i tried the regular margarita and i thought it was pretty good. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and sweet. She knew the menu well and made several recommendations to us. She even threw in a free drink which was very nice of her. She brought our drinks out immediately and refilled my water the second that i finished it. All in all i would defiantly recommend this restaurant to a friend. I've been to this location twice now, and it is always a great time. This is a solid spot for delicious tapas. I always like to just order a bunch and try them all! Definitely have to get the cuban sliders, the Arepa with beef and cheese, and the skewer sampler. Highly recommend for any event. Catching up with a friend, or having a larger dinner party. It was like revenge-of-the-bitchy-nerd-on-a power-trip! I've gone a few times for brunch and the food is tasty but the service is consistently slow and the waitresses all have bad attitudes - which I was able to look past and continue to tip well and bring friends - until this last time. I went with two other ppl on Saturday and the host said it would be a 10 min. wait. We ordered cocktails at the bar only after 25 minutes did we notice that everyone walking in (from 2-tops to 4-tops) were getting seated right away. Still in good spirits, we asked the host about our wait time and instead of apologizing for forgetting about us, he had major attitude and said that we were a 3-top and he couldn't seat us until our 4th got there. We said there was no 4th person, it was just us, and we're all here and ready. He walked away without a word. We sat back down at the bar and then it became apparent that he had no intention of seating us at all. Another 10 minutes went by and now there were some empty tables, plus ppl walking in and getting seated, and still nothing. He wouldn't look at us and seemed on a power trip. I have NO CLUE why, we were nothing but polite. We finally left. There is no reason to ever treat good customers that way! read more

People have already written how good the food is, so I'm not going to comment on that because I think the food gets five stars. The reason why I'm giving two stars is because the service was absolutely terrible. It took over 30mins to get our orders taken, then once the food came, it literally took over 45 minutes to get someone over to clear the table and another 20-30mins to give us our check. We asked several different servers for help and even got up to find someone at one point. It was absurd. I will say though that when the servers came, they were pleasant to interact with. I would go back at a far less busy time of day or when I have more patience to sit there and wait a long time, because the food was really good. The frozen mojito was also excellent. read more

And then to get a refill for a beer was another 15 min. Honestly, we even discussed walking out when we didn't get our first round after ordering twice. Again, food is great. My beau's mom and his sis raved about this place and how much food they give you is unbelievable. They were right! We started off with....you guessed it, yucca fries. Why did I have to try something different today?? His sister had a Bloody Mary. That was the first BM that I've ever had. I don't like drinking tomato juice, so that's never been my thing. BOY was it strong. It had a little bite to it because of the splash of hot sauce on top. Yes, I took a sip of everyone's drink lol no one was interested in tasting mine. Oh well, more for me. The 3 ladies will have the same thing - Huevos Rancheros. This plate came out beautifully. I couldn't wait to dig in - eggs any style stacked on a bed of a black bean quesadilla with white cheeses topped with guacamole. What a combo! Guacamole? Yes, guac. I thought that it would be pretty mushy but it was a nice addition to my palette. It was so good that we had to order a small side of it. The gentleman had scrambled eggs with cheese and chorizo sausage and Latin style hash browns. The hash browns were made with sweet potatoes that weren't at their peek. The hash was a little bland to me. He also had a biscuit. I wasn't interested in the biscuit. I got up to wash my hands only to enter what probably used to be a coat closet or something lol it was super small but it was decorated so nicely that it didn't bother me as much. Wandering around East Village it was time for lunch. This place had a good rating on Yelp, but I was worried that it was too "Mexican". I really wanted to try something different from what I can get in Singapore. The restaurant did not dissapoint. I had a their special burger with tripple fried (?) sweet potato fries. This is only a review for when I called to make a reservation. 1. He kept on repeating "hello, hello?" even though I was practically yelling at him on the phone. Is something wrong with their phone system? 2. I asked them what their happy hour special was. Doesn't that automatically mean that I'm asking what their deals are? Instead all he says was "yes we have happy hour" and when I continued to ask what the deal was, he just listed the drinks they had. I went here for the first time late night with some friends. We had an hour wait and I'm so happy I stuck it out! Since most of us had not been there, we ordered a bunch of the "sampler" type platters because we wanted to try a little of everything. Wash that down with a pitcher of sangria and you have a great dinner for a group of close friends. The Taquitos mixtos is a must if you can't decide which one to get. The Yuca fries were something I've never tasted, and I'm still not quite sure what they were made out of but I could eat them for a meal if I wanted to! Yuca Bar always draws a diverse crowd of young twenty-to-thirty somethings so be prepared to wait 30min+ to be seated. Despite the wait, this little bar and restaurant is one of the best spots in the village for tasty treats at reasonable prices (most tapas are in the $10-15 range). While you're here, be sure to order a couple of appetizers per person and at least one mojito. I also recommend ordering the guacamole, which comes with plantain, malanga and tortilla chips, as well as the ribs, steak skewers and calamari. Aside from the calamari, I'm not a big fan of the seafood served here. The drinks are generally inexpensive and delicious - if you love sangria the way I do, definitely get a pitcher! Went to happy hour here with a friend. Super fun place, interior was a bit dark for my tastes and the music was a bit too loud (we were seated next to the stereo, so that makes sense). Tried the Caipirinha for the first time, which was quite refreshing. Reminded me of a mojito that was a bit less sweet and had a bit more of a bit. Appetizer was guacamole, salsa and chips. The guac was incredible. So nicely flavored and rich. Salsa was light and fun as well. Favorite part about this appetizer was the array of different types of chips - corn, plaintain, etc. Made for an interesting experience! For my main tapas and side, I ordered the Espresso BBQ Costillitas and Yuca fries. The Espresso BBQ Costillitas was delicious. The pork ribs were so tender and the sauce (which definitely sounds intriguing) was incredible. Perfect blend of savory and sweet. Had a great time here! I came here or drinks and dinner on a Tuesday when happy hour includes half priced tapas! Ordered a glass of sangria and loved it- came in a huge glass and was the best I'd had in a while. I was catching up with my cousin and we decided to share a few things, all of which we loved: the shrimp tacos (yum!), mussels in a lobster broth (served with grill bread for dipping- love it), arepa filled with vegetables (might have been my favorite), and the plantain stuffed with shredded pork (meat was good, but the plantain was a little too sweet and I just wasn't feeling it at the moment). For tapas, the portions were generous and we couldn't finish all the food we ordered despite how delicious it was. Such a reasonable meal too- only 20$ each for two drinks and all that food. Really fun place to meet up with friends and would be great for a group. De-friggin-liscious food! The rib appetizer is a must-have and it's the only thing my girlfriend ordered for dinner. I had the paella and it was super yummy, choc full of mussels, shrimp, calamari, sausage, etc. There are so many mouth-watering menu items, you wish you could try it all. Seating was a little cramped, but I survived. The sangria is great. We had the red, but I tried the white and it was good too. It's the kind with apple and orange chunks and grapes too. I had this place on my wish list for a year and my boyfriend took me after failing to make it to Smorgasburg. Brunch was still available and I had to go for the Yuca Benedicts. It blew my mind just how well yuca can go with that. It was a great mix of land and sea in a plate. It even had guacamole on it! Need I say more? GOD! My boyfriend had the churrasco and it was one of the tastiest pieces of meat I've tried. It's definitely juicy and flavorful. Plus, it had home fries with viandas and everything! It's all about 1/2 off Tapas on Tuesdays. Food is delicious. The drank will get you slurring your words before you even order. Guacamole is a given every time. The taquitos, empanadas, and the platanos with shredded pork are my personal favorites. The only dish I didn't like were the arepas..you might as well just go to Caracas down the block. The mojito and sangria are excellent, however the margarita is extremely strong...but hey maybe that's what you're going for. Yuca Bar is one of my go-to's for happy hour in all of Manhattan. Downside is that the wait gets very long on Tuesdays and gets really loud and crowded. The good thing is that even when they are busy, service is still pretty decent and fast. This place keeps me coming back mainly because of their amazing red sangria (the grapes are awesome--I shamelessly dig them up with straws/forks/anything!). I came here for brunch and our party of four was seated outside immediately. They aren't as crowded for brunch as they are for dinner. Granted, we were a little cramped (they squeezed us on a two top table), but the patio isn't big to begin with. We had a dog with us and they brought her over a bowl of water which was quite thoughtful. As for the food, I had the breakfast burrito with egg whites and it was awesome! Not too cheesy and the chorizo gives it the perfect kick of spice and saltiness. I recommend getting an extra side of salsa/guacamole with it to give it some contrast, but it's yummy without. Delicious delicious food. Highly recommended is the guacamole which holds up. As well as the plantain stuffed with pulled pork. Whoever created that is a food genius because it's a perfect combination of flavors. Last dish I had was the coconut breaded shrimp which funny enough reminded me of McDonald's sausages because of whatever was in the deep fried. Oufff one of my favorite date spots! They have great shareable tapas and a great drink selection! The ambiance lends itself well to a date or just drinks with friends. The food is delicious! The cilantro hollandise sauce that was on my eggs was out of this world. Yuca is a great brunch place right by Washington Sw park. We got there at 1pm for brunch and when we left around 2pm there were groups of people waiting outside for tables. The place is very small, as was the brunch menu actually, but the food is great. Latin flavor with all of their dishes, and the 'latin home fries' that comes with most of the entrees was amazing and had sweet pototaoes as well at regular idaho potatoes in the dish. DELICIOUS. The brunch deal is fine, $16 entree and that includes coffee/tea and 1 drink (either mimosa, sangria, screwdriver or frozen marg). TIP-make a reservation! The wait service was poor and easily distracted by anything male. At one point I held out our bill for 5 minutes while our waitress flirt with all of the bus boys infront of us. I don't want to block her trying to get a boyfriend before the holidays, but seriously? My arm was getting tired holding out the check to her. She was oblivious. She brought all of our drinks very late and messed up 2 drink orders. If I'm in the area I'd go back for brunch for the food. Also- apparently their happy hour starts at 1pm during the week. read more
