Finally made it here after 4 months of being on our bucket list. I don't give 5 stars on any 1st visits. But if experience is based off of 1st impressions, this place would come close to it. The locale could be described as a hidden gem or a hole in the wall. The decor is typical of any Asian themed restaurant. A open prep area is viewable from any table. No alcohol but you are invited to BYOB. Staff is very friendly. We started with an appetizer, Avocado poppers, never had it before anywhere. Literally, these melt in your mouth and probably 1 of the best things I have EVER eaten. And for the 1st time in my existence, we ordered another one. Miss soup for both of us. Much for flavorful and more tofu and vegetables than any other place we've gotten miso. Dinner was 2 teriyaki combos, she got chicken and tempura while I got beef and tempura. I ate everything including the lettuce bed under the beef. This literally was probably one of the best meals I've ever had and I look forward to visiting again many times over. We dined here on a Friday night, and the place was packed. There was not a long wait for a table, and we were quickly given clear soup (on the house) and our drinks. The menu is pretty massive, and the sushi menu is rather extensive. We had the spicy tuna on deep-fried white rice appetizer, which is pictured in the menu but not listed separately. It was quite tasty. Like all good sushi places, mackerel was on the menu (with a slight misspelling), so I started with three orders of mackerel nigiri. I also got pepper tuna, amberjack, eel, yellowtail, and several others. I don't usually go for specialty rolls, but I decided to try the Ormond roll and the calamari roll since both sounded fairly interesting. Overall, the mackerel was the star of the show. The yellowtail was okay, and the rest of the fish was pretty decent. The specialty rolls were not really worth writing about, but people who like that kind of thing would enjoy them. Although they did not bring two of the items we ordered (a tiger roll and a yellowtail roll), we were stuffed after eating most of the other food, so it didn't bother us. In terms of ambience, there was music at an appropriate volume. Due to the fairly small size of the restaurant and fairly close proximity of the tables, it was rather loud in terms of conversations going on around us. An interesting twist came up when someone's birthday was being celebrated: they turned off the lights, turned on a colorful disco-like light ball, and played a happy birthday song. I was too far away to see what they had going on on the table but I did see some sparks from some type of sparkler. I am adding a star for location here, as there are not many decent options in the Destrehan/Luling/Kenner area for sushi. Shogun has overall better fish options, but it's all the way in Metairie. There is also some Chinese food options on the menu, which we did not try this time, but they looked pretty good. I will definitely be back! read more

The stars are for the food itself, not the service staff; in particular the server, Jeff. The menu is extensive, food is really good. A few ladies at our table wanted me to change seats. Server noticed I was moving and I said my friends want to see my face. Jeff retorted "I don't know why that is." I guess he thought he was being cute. It's very hard to offend me, but when a server in a restaurant makes comments like this to a patron, I have to wonder how desperate the restaurant has to be to hire a server like Jeff. We went in about 30 minutes to close, so maybe that was the problem even though I am sensitive to that and asked very politely and assured them it was ok to say no. Everyone was actually very sweet EXCEPT our server? Not sure, he never identified himself at all, he could have wandered in off the street for all I know. I would have loved to have tasted the food since my daughter had just said she loved the food there, but I couldn't get past the blatant disrespect this man was showing my daughter and girlfriend. He never once spoke directly to us and never looked us in the eye. He only said you're welcome when I, the man, stared him directly in the eyes and loudly said "thank you". Gyoza and some shrimp dumplings also a tuna salad. We all ordered rolls, Spicy Crunchy Roll and a regular Crunchy Roll, Cowboy Roll, Utah Roll, 4 Alarm Roll, and some others. I had a Tuna Sushi too. The menu is large and it'll take more then a few visits to explore the depths of it. This is a kid friendly family restaurant. My family had been raving about this place so I finally got around to trying it and it was even better than I expected. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps which were so good. They were a little different than the lettuce wraps I would usually get because there were just two but they were still good and filling. I ordered the brees roll and the sea world roll and they were to DlE for. The sea world roll was one of my favorite rolls I have ever had. I just loved how they put seaweed salad in their roll, it just made a huge difference. The brees roll was super good as well! My brother swears by the tofu hibachi which looked pretty good as well as being a pretty nice portion size. The crunchy and spicy tuna rolls were good and big but the star of the show was definitely the special rolls! One thing that was not my favorite about this place was the chaotic atmosphere. The waiters were all over the place and it honestly took us a while to get everything we ordered and we had multiple servers because they didn't coordinate who was our server. It was super noisy and we were sat right by where they do the to-go orders which was pretty hectic. Other than that, I would definitely go for their sushi again! read more

I eat here probably twice a week. The food is beyond phenomenal, the staff is always incredibly friendly and attentive, the prices are extremely reasonable.
