Wow the food is just so amazing here, it is still making me home sick for socal. The owners are nice and the husband takes great pride and care of his smoked meat & prime rib . he actually gave me a sample and I will be back tomorrow for that prime rib....relish..the yummieness... Is it really a banh mi? Who knows I've had lots of banh mi and every place has alittle touch. I was disappointed there was no radish with the pickled carrots , didn't even know I would miss them but they do make a difference (to me) in taste . The tofu option was nothing to rave about but I will come back and try their meat options as they smoke/make some in house and make their own sauces. The bread isn't made by them but it did taste day made fresh, not soft and crunch fresh made bread is , but it worked. The taro milk tea was from powder mix so I'm assuming most of the boba drink flavors are from that, it was ok. boba was super chewy , almost old tasting . I'd stick with the sandwiches. My friends and I decided to try Z&J Asian subs' boba tea. My friend is deathly allergic to dairy, and we asked if the boba teas contained dairy. We were assured that they did not, and clarified multiple times due to the severity of the allergy. We were assured the teas did not contain dairy. Moments after drinking a few sips, my friend's mouth began to burn, a sign that she was starting to have an allergic reaction. Luckily, she caught the signs early and did not continue to drink. Honestly the subs are really good, but the ppl running the place are the worst! Probably the longest I have ever waited for food I ordered online in advance. I ordered my subs(2 smalls) a half hr before needing to pick them up, and when I arrived had to wait in the same line of cars as everyone ordering for upon arrival?! Even though they have two windows on opposite sides of their building, perfect for one online order line and one order upon arrival line... There's no boba shops around Humboldt County, and I figured I would give this place a shot even though it's at a banh mi place since I was craving milk tea and boba badly but unfortunately it was very disappointing. The milk tea tasted artificial and the boba was very plain. Definitely not the quality of boba in Orange County. They charge too much for it too since you can get better quality for cheaper elsewhere in more populated areas. It's a drive-thru spot across the street from CVS and Target. This place is a gem seriously good eats here. Boba and Asian subs? Can't go wrong. They pack a lot of flavor in those subs and the boba seems fresh and the smoothies are tasty. The boba tea is great too if you prefer teas. I really loved the number one ordered SPICEY and careful they mean spicey! I love spicey hot foods so this wasn't a big deal to me but my husband had a hard time. Also the rice bowls are tasty too and good for the kiddos. All in all good experience here and it keeps me coming back. I didn't like this place at first but now I absolutely love it. The boba is always good and the pearls are always perfect texture, not too soft and not too hard. The sandwiches are delicious and the rice bowls are good too. The prices are reasonable and the drive thru moves quickly. I would go here daily! Update- my order gets messed up sometimes they forget avocado which I know they definitely charge for, so I need to start checking it. Passed this place the day before and thought "Oh we're coming back." Got up this morning and drove over from where we were camping, and I gotta say 100% worth the drive. It was a little pricey, but for such a good reason. We got 2 smoothies, mine peaches and cream and the other the litchi, both with boba and whipped cream. Got to take a sip before he handed us our food, and I knew just from that the food was going to be so good. We ordered 2 sandwiches, mine pork and the other chicken, with all the veggies, sauce, and such, both mild. SOOOOO GOOD. I absolutely devoured mine. We tried this place for the first time. We ordered 3 rice bowl dishes, the chicken, bbq beef and pork belly. The pork belly dish was very good but only a few pieces of pork in the dish. Never open when I drive by waited at the order station for 10 minutes once not hearing a thing they had their open sign on and everything but didn't hear a thing! But this is the only place in Humboldt to get boba even then the boba is very mushy the tea is very over powering in something I don't know what but it's not very good read more

I decided for my first order to go with tofu to be on the safe side before there was nothing safe about it. It was super delicious and the flavors were sooooo good! Totally enjoyed my large sub though it took me the whole day to finish it. Loved loved the carrots and cilantro. Everything tasted so fresh and clean. Now I have to try the pulled pork. At first the menu is a bit overwhelming so just relax and take your time... but basically the breakdown is size, meat, all veggies (or explain what you want in or out), level of sauce heat, mild to spicy... and you will be asked if you want avocado or cheese. Since to me this is like a Vietnamese banh mi, I opted out of the avocado and cheese but they are good options to have. I ended my order with a green tea boboa (fabulous). Like $8 bucks for a bbq pork number. However, when I got the sandwich, it was FULL of meaty yumminess! I mean, the sandwich was large compared to what I am accustomed to getting at my Sacramento Vietnamese sub place. Basically, it was like a foot long filled with plenty of meat, cilantro, the pickled veggies that are standard in this type of sandwich, and some jalapenos. I dig this place! The first time I went here, I really wanted a banh mi, and the sandwich is nothing like a banh mi, but it's still super yummy with lots of fresh veggies, so it won me over. The sauce is a bit overly ketchup-y for my liking, but that might be because it's supposed to go with beef brisket or pulled pork and I always order tofu. I love that they have vegetarian options, the boba is awesome, and the guy who usually works there is a super kind, friendly dude. I do think they should consider switching from plastic to paper cups and bags though. It'd be an easy switch and better for the environment. But I do find myself often craving their sandwiches and boba! I love getting lunch here on the go. read more

Great ingredients, awful portions. I ordered the prime rib sub and was woefully disappointed. My sandwich had a mountain of vinegar soaked carrots and a teeny sliver of beef. And the sandwich squirted its spicy sauce out with every bite. I like the flavors of the ingredients, just not the volume. Ordered the Prime Rib sub and a Strawberry smoothie today, The sub was horrid, the smoothie perfect. Sound confusing? Good. because it confused me too. I got an excellent sub roll that was then DROWNED in mild sauce, virtually no meat (And seeing as I didn't order any of the carrots and cucumbers, virtually no anything) So, a nearly empty sandwich full of so much sauce I literally gagged on it. I have not gagged on food in years. this sub was so bad that I gagged. What makes it odd, is I'm pretty sure all the ingredients were good. just horrible portions of them. My favorite part of this place is the owner. He is so extremely friendly and sincerely loves his sub place. He has greeted me around town, and he once gave me free HiChew candy when I got a sub once so I could try it. That is a fantastic way to run a business and encourage customer loyalty (he has mine). Aside from the great people, I absolutely love the Vietnamese subs here. They have their own twist, different from typical banh mi. The spicy and mild sauce are both delicious. The cilantro on top is the perfect addition. I am partial to the chicken and pulled pork subs. They have a ton of awesome boba tea flavors, too. I love it. A+, 100% recommend. read more

The people who work here are nice, and they have good customer service skills. However, the food I ordered was below average and the boba tea was below average. The pork is sometimes bland, and the rice bowls are filled with what I believe was a just a bunch of cardoons. This wasn't awful, but somewhat disappointing. The boba tea is below average because well quite frankly there should be more boba in boba tea. That's what makes it different from regular tea, the boba! I expect to have a good amount of boba when I order boba tea. With that being said, the service here is always very friendly.
