My coworker and I like to find places open late and Cedar Geill came up. I had visited before several years ago at a previous location. I wasn't aware on this visit that they had moved until I got there. The sign says La Mirage Cafe, so I called to confirm I was in the right location. The friendly voice assured me we were and that they were open. When we walked in we were greeted by a lady who let us know she only spoke Spanish. So we had to try to keep our order simple and uncustomized. For an appetizer, I ordered a fried ball of dough with ground beef inside...keffe or something like that. I didn't care for it, but that doesn't affect my ratings since I didn't really know what to expect. Difference in taste and all that. I also ordered a chicken kebab wrap which was very good. My coworker seemed to enjoy her food (hummus and something else I don't remember). All in all, the reason for the low score was not for the food, but because I think they need signage (even temporary) to let the public know who/where they are, someone who speaks English enough to take a full order, and cleanliness (see picture). Also, we weren't checked on hardly at all and we didn't know whether to pay at the table or at the register so we waited quite a while to get someone's attention to take our money. We ordered through Uber Eats - tried a BOGO "deal" but required the purchase of two $3 drinks to use the deal. Feels scammy. Fries were burnt beyond recognition and should have never been served (think bottom of the barrel scrapings), meat was dry. Did not think we got a good value for our dollar. We were disappointed to have tried something new. Would not consider a revisit , nor would we recommend. read more

I got the lamb shish kebab plate. The meat was burnt, rubbery and so salty it was almost inedible, even after drowning it in the garlic sauce. The rice was alright. The Mediterranean salad did not have any dressing on it so it was bland. The best part is the dish was the dolmas and I'm pretty sure they were store bought. read more

We thought it was closed down because it doesn't look like it's a working establishment. fortunately it's open and clean. the staff is friendly and the food is well prepared. when I came on a Saturday afternoon, only two people were inside. no music and two women working. Finally got to try. Unfortunately I had to Uber it. I feel by the time I get the food it takes away a little from the quality. Still very good. Got the mixed gyro and it was good. The rice was great. I added a chicken noodle soup thinking eh, it will be basic. The chicken noodle soup was the star. Not to take away from everything else but it just stood out. It was really really good. Had a mixed grill with hummus and Greek salad, fried mushrooms the gyro and fries. Menu has a lot on it and everything was perfectly executed. It's rare that a restaurant can create everything on the menu very well. Chef should be very proud of herself because my lunch date and I wanted to propose, her cooking was so good. SO DISAPPOINTED! We saw this place on Instagram on the @bestfoodsanantonio so we decided to give it a try. We ordered takeout and went inside to pick up and NONE of the employees were wearing masks! This is a time where it's mandatory so this was upsetting to see. Then we get home and open our takeout containers and instant disappointment. We barely got any chicken!! My plate had so much cold rice and only 6-7 pieces of chicken! It was so bland and dry, I had to drown it in the hummus. And then not to mention the bread tasted old. Disappointed. 4 thin slices of meat on a gyro. Couldn't even taste the meat. Also super confusing to find this place. It's cedar grill online, but outside it's listed as the mirage.. or something like that. There is an actually "cedar grill" up the road, but it's a Pakistan restaurant- not cedar grill. Requires the purchase of a 3 dollar drink... then x2 for two people in order to buy any of their "bundles"/entree plates. Just no. This one is possibly more on uber eats, but I know many restaurants who do not have this setup and others that used to but no longer do. The food was just alright. I will stick with the places I already familiar with and I know will have good food... at the same price to boot read more

Not sure what happened to this place but I went in for lunch and there was only one other couple eating in the whole establishment. Food was basically reheated Mediterranean food. Its ok for fast food but if you want fresh and authentic I would go to Pascha or Darhma. Also, how can you be "out of chicken" and be a Mediterranean restaurant? read more

Driving by, I never would have expected the kitchen to turn out Mediterranean dishes based on the lodge-style exterior. Menu was a pleasant surprise of sandwiches, soups, kabobs, and apps. It's unclear whether there is table service or if you are supposed to walk up and order (which I did), as there is no posted menu and you seem to have to return to the counter to pay (rather than paying as you order). Bit of an unusual setup. Opted for the mixed grill plate (three different types of kabob with rice, salad, and hummus for $15), with a minor substitution (sub additional salad for the rice). Order took 20 minutes and I didn't get rice or additional salad. The steak kabobs were best, the other two were extremely dry, especially the chicken. Hummus lacked flavor, but I liked how the salad included bell peppers. Long story short, there are better options in town. Staff needs to try harder. Service was limited, other patrons had to get up repeatedly to get additional items (takeout boxes, silverware) as staff did not come out to check on tables. read more

Nice quiet place close to my work. I love Middle Eastern Food and wanted to try this place. Good price for lunch special. Gyro, beef or chicken is $6.99. I was super hungry so I also ordered a side of Falafel. I like the upbeat Arabic music. The soup had flavor and did not need salt or pepper. The Beef gyro had very generous portions of beef, onion , tomato and sauce. No need to request extra. The Pita was super fresh and soft. Perhaps I was a bit overhyped about coming. For the price and taste, it's decent. However, the food is not as tasty as some other places in town. I like my gyros with thick cut pieces of meat and my bread soft and chewy. The gyro has thinly sliced meat and is loaded with lettuce and sauce. The food portions are also pretty average to large -- you will not be hungry afterwards. Two really great points about this restaurant is the service and price. The staff is very nice and courteous and asked us several times if everything was good. Well, I really didn't have the heart to say that the food is just not as good as some other places. However, that being said I think if you are looking for a quick Mediterranean fix that is authentic tasting, this may be a good stop for you. It really didn't meet my palate expectations. The second point is the pricing. The gyro meal is $6.99 and includes the gyro plus fries. That's a great lunch price. On the other hand, you are not getting fresh cut, thickly sliced fries. Just make sure you aren't expecting like Zorba's $10 or lamb like Mediterranean Turkish Grill. Keep your expectations as a cafeteria, casual Mediterranean and you shouldn't be disappointed. read more

Stopped in here on my way home, very happy with my togo order. Originally wanted the chicken gyro and they were out. I thought sad but i still wanted to try something so young woman said if you still want chicken try the tawook sandwich and wow. I was so happy they were out of what i thought i wanted. If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would, but I'll have to give it 3 for now. After moving to the area, I have been searching for a great gyro! My yelp results led me here. For lunch I got the gyro sandwich and fries. My order was made very quickly and everything tasted very fresh. My gyro had a good amount of meat and was juicy; however, I thought it lacked in flavor overall. The fries were tasty though! Nicely seasoned and crispy. Overall, a good spot for Mediterranean food, but not the best I have ever had. I will probably come back if I'm in the area but not go out of my way to come here. read more

Second time ordering take out via Uber eats and yummmyy. I always get the gyro and it's always tasty and cooked perfectly. This time I paid extra for the feta cheese and wrote in the special instructions for them to add it to my fries and they actually did it. Some places don't really listen to the special instructions but cedar does :) what I really like about the gyro as well is that the price INCLUDES the fries instead of having to pay extra for the fries like most other places. I needed different. I became aware of my rather limited palate as I looked through my instagram posts. Do I love food? The abundance of food pics was a resounding yes. However, I seem to stick to a certain choice of foods. Time to sprout a new leaf and Cedar Mediterranean Grill is going to grow me up a bit. I arrived just after 11am, their opening time. Selected a table I liked and scanned the menu. I was in luck, I was greeted by the friendly owner who suggested the mix grill - three skewers of marinated lamb, beef and chicken kebab grilled to perfection and served on a bed of rice with two sides. In addition to that, I tried tried two medallion s of falafel (yum!!!). So how was it? From the first bite to the last, a feast of flavors unlike anything I've tasted before. You know what? I didn't realize how I love lamb until I tried the lamb that is prepared here! There was so much food but that didn't stop me from polishing off my plate. Trust me, you need to try this place soon!!! I received my order by delivery. I ordered a meat gyro sandwich & falafel/hummus appetizer. The falafel was overcooked to the point of looking very dark, as in burned. Tasted burned too and was really hard. I feel like it would have been obvious to the cook that this would be sent back in person, but since it was delivery, who cares? For that alone I won't go again, plus the gyro was just ok. You can get better at Demos, Mini's & even Papoulis chain. Maybe it's better in person but I'm not finding out. read more

Cedar's is such a comforting establishment with authentic flavor and freshly made food. The moment I walked in you can tell they're dedicated to keeping they're establishment clean and sanitary. As well it was nice to see them prepare my food and see the love they put into it. Just seeing them toss my crispy fries. When I received my food the colors and smells were just as good as the taste. My husband has been working so hard the last few days. He worked on our anniversary day so I decided to order takeout when he gets home. His favorite foods are top steak houses, Mediterranean food and lastly Thai. Ordering 9:30 pm on a Wednesday night was nerve wrecking. I opted for cedar. I purchased the lamb and two shawarma plates (chicken and beef) hummus, grape leave rolls and salad with an extra bread. WOW!!! After my scare with Pasha I just prayed everything will turn out good. I plated everything for him and he ate more than he expected because it was so delicious. The rice was great as well! Not plain and nicely seasoned. We will be visiting in person! read more

Well, I'm not even sure where do I start. if they would let me give a negative rating I would gladly do so. First of all, The owner calls himself, "Abe" his whole name is Abraham...... My girlfriend and I went for the first a few months back. I finally found the time to write something about this disgusting excuse for a restaurant. basically it came down to me telling the owner that the chicken I was served smelled rancid. He then suggested something may be wrong with my nose. After telling him I'm not paying for his nasty food he just rolled his eyes and said, "that what I expected". Typical little man not taking responsibility for his actions and what comes out his mouth. Never ever going back, Should have known better to stop and eat at a nasty place who's bathrooms smell like pig sties. Highly suggest you avoid this dump!! YUCK!!!
