Walked in on a Sunday night as new customers around 5:15pm. We were immediately seated (outside- back patio is very nice) and menus given, water poured. That's were things started to go downhill. It was not crowded, but it took awhile to have a server come by and take our drink order. She finally came back with our drinks after 10 minutes (2 beers) and took off without asking if we had questions or to ask if we were ready to order. 5 minutes later I was about to flag her down to put in an appetizer order. By now it's 5:40. I had to flag her down again around 6 so we could put in our entree orders, around 6:10 or so our appetizer came out and was cold (meatballs). Dinner didn't get to us until almost 7. Entrees were excellent but it took forever to get the check, pay and get out of there. A+ for ambience A for food D for service. read more

My wife and I went here last night (wife's first time) and I have to tell you it was incredibly good. It's one of those places for us is a little out of our way, but it is worth the drive. We started out with an appetizer of beef tenderloin strips, and Gorgonzola. It was delicious chunks of tender beef tenderloin cooked in amazing sauce with shallots, garlic, topped with melted Gorgonzola cheese. I could have made a meal out of this. It was served with delicious garlic bread cooked to perfection. Our entrées came with the choice of soup or salad, and we chose the soup of the day which was sweet and sour cabbage soup. I thought it was perfect. My wife thought it may be a little bit too sweet but you couldn't tell because there was nothing left in her bowl. For our entrées, I went with Zacks schnitzel. It was the most tender flavorful moist schnitzel cooked in this lemony garlic sauce with an incredible light crust. It came with braised, red cabbage, and mashed potatoes. I couldn't stop eating it. My wife went with the Sole Milanese. It was perfectly cooked in a Panko Parmesan crust, topped with the most delicious arugula salad. My wife was going to order a salad with her entrée but Cindy suggested she get the soup because the salad that tops the sole is huge and it was. I'm not a big fan of arugula but my wife said it was fantastic. OK enough with the food. I think you get the idea we liked it, let's talk about our service. It was one of the best services we had in a long time. Our server/bartender Cindy was friendly and accommodating, attentive and overall just a nice person. If you'd like to sit at a bar when you eat, Zachary's has a huge long bar and it's very inviting, they have an incredible outdoor patio if you like to eat outside and the dining room is very comfortable if you're a table person. I would highly recommend this restaurant , you will not be disappointed. The menu isn't huge but a nice variety,something for everyone. I have been here several times, but it was my wife's first time, needless to say we will be back. Love this place! read more

As the only African-American pair in the restaurant, we were the only ones not given a greeting through our entire dining experience despite multiple times of him being right behind or beside us. We spent $200+. Waitresses were very nice. We have been coming there for years but this is the first time seeing the owner. We did not feel welcome nor appreciated. We will not be back. It's consistently superb, every time I visit here. The drinks, the food, the chef, the desserts, the service and servers, the ambiance, it's all just perfect! I had risotto with shrimps and scallops: excellent. Great wine list - not overwhelming or complicated. Servers are all knowledgeable about what to pair with what, even if you know your wines and regions. Courses were perfectly timed. My husband was attending an 80th Birthday celebration. Ordered prime rib special for his meal. When soup/ salad was served, they forgot his! Then as the 28 other attendees were served dinner, he was told they were out of what he ordered! They ask what he would like instead; he says Cod dinner please. 5 minutes later they come back to him and say they are also out of Cod! Are you kidding me! He never ate! What a joke! When I didn't want the table she was putting us at, she grab the paper menus and SNATCHED them off the table and seated us at the table I WANTED!! The paper menus were re used. There were grease spots and dried SOMETHING on it. You would think with a pandemic on, we would get new ones.-GROSS. The bartenders are slow. The beer was not as cold as it should be. I went there on Good Friday for the 2nd time, because I had such a great experience the first time in January. This time my husband took my mother. We had made reservations because they had a Lenten menu. Barb the host was nice as always, she gave us the menu along with the regular menu. We all ordered what we thought was seafood on the Lenten menu. The only issue I had was my mom placed her order which said SHRIMP, CRAB, AND SCALLOP TRIO WITH 3 PETITE FILETS. So naturally, we assumed it was fish because the menu was all seafood and said LENTEN Menu, However, we were a bit thrown off because when our waitress Lauren said how do you want your fillets, I looked at my mom and said oh HOT, she likes her food very HOT, then the waitress said no like medium, or well done. I said oh I guess medium well. But we all looked at each other and said oh that was weird to ask that about fish. So we then received our dishes and that is when the problem began. My mom looked at it and thought it was a different kind of fish but took a bite and said oh this doesn't taste like fish this taste like meat. I took a bite and said oh that is meat. We immediately grab the waitress Lauren and said, this is RED MEAT, I thought we were getting fish because it was on the Lenten menu and everything was fish. She then said no that PETITE FILLET MIGNON. My mom said oh I can't eat that on Good Friday cause its meat so she quickly just ordered coconut shrimp. So our bill came and we first received a bill that didn't charge us for the 2nd drink so I thought oh that's nice they took the drinks off because of the mistake that I feel was made on their part because of how the menu was presented. So then The waitress came back and said oh I gave you the wrong bill. I . said oh maybe there gonna take more off. NO exactly the opposite the bill has higher and they charged us for everything the fillet meal was $42, and I asked the waitress why that wasn't taken off or if they could just take off the smaller meal like the coconut shrimp that my mom ordered and she immediately said oh NO they won't do that, I said why not because the menu was clearly represented the wrong way assuming everything is fish, nothing else on this Lenten menu was meat but this one. She then came back and said no they won't because it was partially eaten I said no it wasn't there were 2 small bites taken and we boxed it already because we didn't think there was going to be a problem at the end, otherwise I would have addressed it immediately when ordering. Well, I would have expected better customer service from this establishment because of the clientele that is present. We are not trying to ask for a free meal, Just asking for acknowledgment that the menu should have been clearly explained then, and maybe if the waitress would have said how would you like your mignon cooked we would clearly not have had this terrible review because my first review was excellent. So for the future please know your menu not everyone is a regular so acknowledge the new customers and treat them well so that they return. read more

I was at Zacahry's Grill, ordered Zach's Schnitzel, and it was absolutely amazing. It was so tender, and I loved every bite of it. HOWEVER, our waitress Sharon, was not very pleasant. It was as if I was a bother along with my girlfriends who had a few questions about items on the menu. When she realized she made a mistake on our order, she stormed off to correct things, but never said where she was going or what she was doing. It was as if we had done something wrong. The patio is lovely, but it would have been nice if the lanterns were on. She never asked if she could bring another drink and never even refilled the waters. We felt as though we were being rushed and not really welcome there. It really is a nice local spot, but this isn't the first negative experience I have had there and I think I am done! Really good food, not a chain restaurant......need I say more. We love to eat at locally owned, individual owner restaurants. And the food was fantastic. My husband had the grouper special which he said was fantastic, he eats a lot of fish in Florida so I trust his opinion. His mom had the shrimp Mediterranean pasta and she thought it was amazing, there were a lot of shrimp and she thought the flavor was good. I had the pork tenderloin which was really good, the lemon/wine sauce was amazing. It was very quiet, there wasn't a lot of clientele but it's a Thursday night so we were not surprised. The bourbon pour on my husband's drink was very generous. As for the reviews that said small portions, I'm not sure what they expect but it was more than enough food.....for lunch tomorrow too. Both my mother in law and I brought home half of our food. Three pieces of pork plus mashed potatoes and green beans, the portion was more than adequate. As for the reviews that said kind of expensive, our mains, which come with salad, starch, veggies, were between $21-28 for a nice meal in a quiet place with linen tablecloth and wait service that is not bad. Outstanding! Wonderful service, beautiful decor, friendly and welcoming staff, excellent quality food and cocktails. We loved the two fish dishes we ordered and enjoyed meeting the chef and owner and talking with other diners. I appreciate how accommodating the staff were to serve us outside, and how quickly and patiently they responded to the two cranky ladies next to us who left their manners and sense of fun at home when they insisted on receiving special treatment because they didn't like that one patron smoked outside near them and that another group was "too loud and drunk" for them. Sadly, they got the fun group uncomfortable, so we were stuck listening to the ladies complain the rest of the evening. The staff handled them very professionally and with courtesy they didn't deserve. We will be back as often as we can; the oysters were some of the best we've eaten! read more

I was there yesterday in a group of 6. The waitress, Sharon, was and has always been very nice. We got our drinks and bread right away. We didn't have enough butter so we asked for more. A busgirl came by with 2 more baskets of bread but no butter. My husband spilled a glass of water so we cleaned it up and bundled up the wet tablecloth and gave it to the busgirl with our apologies. She came back with a fresh tablecloth and just laid it on the table for us to reset it. So food was satisfactory to all except mine. Most of the lettuce on my ceasar salad was brown. I had cod with rice pilaf which was a very small portion...both the cod and rice. I mentioned to the waitress that my Cesar salad was brown and couldn't eat it. When she brought the check she whispered to me that she took my salad off of the bill....really??....the salad is included. For the prices I expected much better food as I have had in the past. If it wasn't for the company it would be a very bad experience. read more

Our family now has Zachary's for our standing Saturday night dinner. Everything we've had off the menu from takeout stands up against the terrific food from our previous dine in experiences here. The lamb chops, filet, crab cakes and Zachary's pasta are out favorites. It's quite a feat to have medium rare hold up with both temperature and done-ness from takeout. Great steak, downtown atmosphere and quality food for less than you expect! We have been here a few times since they opened. We have tried the steak (outstanding), salads, and mostly the appetizer menu. The grilled octopus is the best we have ever had and the best part is that the staff REMEMBERED OUR NAMES after only seeing us once. Went there for an early dinner and while the food was good, the service was abysmal, and we were the only diners in the place at the time! We had three separate waitresses, and no one seemed to want to "own' our table! Plus we later learned there were "specials" but no one ever informed us of the specials. We had gone there for lunch before and everything seemed ok, but an early dinner was a total failure. Not sure when we will be going back again. read more

This place was a fun surprise. We met some friends there on a Friday night, not realizing they also have live music and dancing. I can't recall if we made a reservation or not but we had no trouble getting a table at around 730p. The restaurant is large and nicely decorated. There are lots of TV's in the bar area but the ambiance is quite a few notches above sports bar. The menu has a good variety of dishes, I tried the whitefish which was pretty tasty. The drinks and the service were both decent. The best part of our visit was the music and watching the regulars dance. You could tell there were many couples who make this their regular Friday night activity. The entertainment was a duo who sang mostly 80's-90's and were very, very good. Zachary's is just outside of what we consider a "local" spot for a weeknight dinner and I can't say the food was good enough to bring us back. But if you're looking for something more than dinner and drinks, the people watching alone is worth a trip. read more

I live in the area and have always wanted to try this restaurant. Zachary's is located in a strip mall. We decided to eat outside, The beer garden is nice and you are allowed to smoke. I ordered a Jameson and ginger ale that tasted like water. I requested that the waitress check to see if the ginger ale was properly working. She did not and when I asked again she suggested that it tasted watery because it was sitting so long. She offered to bring another drink and it was fine. We ordered our food and the waitress brought out the salad when my friend ordered soup. At the end of the meal she charged us for the soup stating that soup was separate from the soup or salad option. She never mentioned that when we ordered. The order arrived 45 minutes later and it was the wrong order. She quickly snatched my friend's meal and said she would bring it out hot when she brought my food. My friend was starving and I wouldn't have minded if she had eaten her food while I waited. Thirty minutes later she brings out the food. I came to the conclusion that she had never entered my order. At one point I had to ask our waitress if she was okay. She kept forgetting everything, I believe she was under the influence of something. The food was mediocre at best. The bill amounted to what you would expect to pay at a downtown restaurant. I would suggest you take your business there. On a positive note, the workers seemed friendly and one of the customers said, it was the best food on the Southside. Unfortunately, I can not recommend Zachary's from my experience. read more

If you go with friends make sure you bring cash or have it worked out who is paying and how you are paying them back because they have a policy of only 1 check per table! Waitress did a good job. If I were to rate the food only it would be a 4.5. The food was pretty good but the hostess was so unpleasant that I would not return. We were there on June 23 to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday at dinner time. My dad picked up a menu earlier in the day and the sandwiches sounded delicious. We asked hostess about the menu and she said I didn't see you come in earlier, insinuating he was lying. We asked if we could order sandwiches and she said not possible the lunch food is put away and the kitchen can't prepare lunch items after 3 although my nephew had a child's menu with a burger on it. My sister jokingly said she was going to order off the children's menu and the hostess snapped at her saying that's not allowed? Really? Why not? She was just very short with us and unwelcoming. I eat here about twice a month, both for lunch and dinner. I am a close neighbor. I have never had a bad or even a mediocre meal here. The ambiance is classy, the food is beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The service is always good but not cloying. I have also recommended Zachary's to many other people who have called to thank me for the recommendation. My only gripe, and it is a small one, is that I am never recognized by the owner, hostess or wait staff as a repeat, loyal customer. Maybe it is because I am a woman or a senior. I often see the owner sitting at the bar. He should walk over and say hello to his guests. The elderly are much more loyal customers than the hipsters who tend to frequent a new place every week.
