I met a friend at Zachary's Grill last night. There turned out to be a big crowd of us. Some of the crowd left abruptly when they were told we could not request separate checks. Those of us who stayed were treated to a bottle of Prosecco, a charcuterie tray and a heartfelt apology from Zachary! He went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of. Zachary's Grill is an awesome venue. Good food, great staff, amazing chef, and the owner Zachary is so nice. The decor is absolutely gorgeous. It is huge inside. On Friday and Saturday nights he has live music. Being a music lover the acoustics in the room are amazing. In fact our daughter had her wedding there. I never was at a wedding where the waiters and waitresses bring drinks to your table. The staff, the food the whole wedding was flawless thanks to Zachary. It was surely a Cinderella wedding for my daughter. I can not say enough good things about Zacharys in this review. But, I will tell you this, if you go to Zacharys and have a bad experience then, you either had a bad day or your just that person who has to criticize everything. Disappointed with this place. The ambiance is set up very nice to make you feel like your in a four star restaurant but the service and food were sub par in my opinion. I'll say that we did arrive 40 minutes before closing but I did confirm with them ahead of time if it would be ok to still show up that late. Our waiter did a pretty bad job of serving us considering that we were one of 2 other tables that were already eating. Our drinks were probably the only thing that showed up in a timely manner. Twice he forgot to bring us the bread that comes along with our meal so we sat for about 15 minutes with only our drinks before the food arrived. I ordered the fried shrimp basket with asparagus and sweet potato casserole along with a bacon and blue cheese salad The salad was forgettable because the dressing didn't have that bold blue cheese flavor I like. Almost defeats the purpose of serving blue cheese. The shrimp were battered nicely but they didn't have any flavor to them which was disappointing. They do serve the shrimp with a side of sweet thai sauce which was good but not great. The best thing surprisingly on my plate was the asparagus. My husband wanted the rib eye but was asked if he would take the porter house instead and he agreed. The steak was good, well marinated but maybe a little overcooked for medium. It wasn't until we received the bill that we notice the Porter house was a $50 steak and it was good but not $50 good. It took awhile before our waiter who was practically a child came back to take our bill. I tipped according to the service given. I'd recommend they should find someone who has better service experience and a few more chin hairs. Kid looked like a high school sophomore. read more

This was my 2nd time coming to Zachary's. The 1st time was beautiful. We were in a group of 12. The food was what we expected, portion sizes, good quality, everything was beautiful. On my 2nd visit, the atmosphere was beautiful,the music was beautiful and the crowd was beautiful. But the food portion sizes were more in line with a happy meal. l ordered the salmon and rice pilaf for $28 and I felt that they left half of the meal in the kitchen. will not be returning thanks to the face of the restaurant, the host. we asked if we could just grab one of the open spots at the bar and the host responded with "no, those seats are for our regulars, they come in for dinner every night". I then asked about the other two spots open that did not have reserved signs ON THE BAR, she said well those are going to be for regulars that will be coming in. we asked what if we wanted to come in and grab a drink, your "bar" is not open to the public!? finally another wonderful waitress noticed the conversation and said "I'm so sorry, yes you can absolutely take these two spots at the bar while making it clear to the girl at the host station that she was blatantly rude to a couple new customers. I found that waitress and tipped her for helping before we would have stormed out of the restaurant. food was ok but we also found that the owner was behind the bar shortly after, probably heard the conversation but did not address as I'm sure his daughter was the host and they are both protective of their "Regulars". plenty of other amazing restaurants in palos and surrounding towns that won't treat new customers like peasants. read more

We stumbled upon Zachary's when looking for a place to hold a funeral luncheon for 80 to 100 people. They happened to have a last minute cancelation and were there by able to accommodate us. The food and the service were wonderful. This was a difficult time for our family and the staff involved in the planning and then attending to the lunch were professional, compassionate and friendly. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a business dinner here a few weeks ago. I was impressed enough that when I needed a memorable dinner venue in the Alsip area this week, I never hesitated to dial up Zacharys. A table for 5 needed within a half hour, a friendly smile when seated, and great service, was a wonderfull start and as the evening unfolded. My companions were from Montana, Maine, and Texas which covers the taste buds of seasoned beef lovers and seafood aficionados alike. Nobody was disappointed, in fact, there was cross sharing of entrees as each bragged about how well prepared and tasty each of their dishes were. I sat taking full credit for my suggestion to dine here. A duet crooning smooth favorites from Marvin Gaye and the likes only enhanced the experience. My husband ordered Braised oxtail ragout & really enjoyed it. I ordered the Atlantic Salmon & it was the worst I have ever had. During quarantine we have been treating ourselves and ordering Sunday dinner. On Easter we ordered 3 lamb chop dinners and a prime rib dinner. Everyone loved their entrees. Lamb chops were cooked to perfection. This Sunday we had the ribs and chicken milanese. Ribs were tender and sauce was great. The portions and sides are generous. While I feel the menu is well-rounded I always zero in on the whitefish, which is tried and true. However, today One of the many(!) excellent seafood and steak and seafood combos offered as specials (prob Valentine's Day inspired) was sautéed Dover Sole. Dover Sole! I mean, how often - never- do you see it!. Described as sautéed in butter/herb sauce and de-boned tableside I decided to give it a go. It was perfection! The deboning was expertly handled, yielding 4 perfect whole filets. Yes, you will pay a premium for certain fish, especially those on special (also on offer was Chilean sea bass and many other steak and seafood combos). Came here for first time with my 24 year old son. We sat on outside patio. The patio is enclosed with fence and bushes and has a very nice atmosphere. They had live entertainment as it was a Wednesday. Had a dozen $1 oysters each and were very fresh and delicious . Served with lemon, horseradish and cocktail sauce. You would have to go to a happy hour downtown to get $1 oysters and it's a great find in the south suburbs. We also had the $20 7 oz filet special served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. We have wanted to visit this restaurant for quite a while now. The food is very good quality, but menu is rather small. There was a large wine list, but we were warned that the menu had listed wines that they don't have, and was missing some they do have. When we went to order one, they didn't have any in that section of wine. The staff was very polite and attentive. It's worth another try at another time to see if the menu is better. read more

Last night was abysmal. Restaurant closed sometime around 8 pm. They gave us a 10 minute warning, they were "out" of the dish we wanted got the bruschetta which consisted of very old pungent garlic sliced or rubbed on stale bread, and while tomato's aren't in season these were worse than tasteless and store bought Parmesan sprinkles. Rib tips were more edible but just slathered in a sweet baby rays type sauce and microwaved. This wasn't food. Service was slow despite the fact they had maybe 15 patrons tops. Had our 40th anniversary celebration here during prime Saturday night hours. We had a table of nineteen. The server followed our instructions exactly. Appetizers were delivered at the requested time and she kept the bottles of wine coming, after always checking with us. Soup and salads were tasty and the entrees were all served hot and delicious. Almost everyone was so full they took parts of their dinners home. We were allowed to bring in our own cake which she graciously served. Atmosphere was delightful, lively but tasteful. I booked a table for six people for noon adjacent to the fireplace six weeks ago. These reservations including the fireplace setting were confirmed the day before our luncheon. When we arrived we were told our table by the fireplace had been bumped for a party of ten. A half-hour later only six people arrived and took the table near the fireplace. As of an hour later there still were only six people sitting at the table for ten. We were seated away from the fireplace even though another table was closer and unattended. The carpet under our seats was scattered with crumbs. I asked if someone could vacuum and was told the cleaning staff called in sick. The receptionist used a sweeper half around the table only. There was no apology for our disappointment or for the dirty carpet under our feet. We felt like unwanted guests in a restaurant that was not at all crowded. The food was good. The service was good. The price was average as expected. The disappointment and attitude regarding our experience was poor. In addition, an automatic 20% gratuity was added. Went to Zachary's last Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised by the live entertainment. For the most part our dining experience was wonderful! The wait staff was the small problem we encountered. Our waitress rarely visited our table. Seemed liked we had to beg to get her to get additional cocktails and our water glasses were never refilled. Our party of eight had seven that enjoyed their meals. I ordered the petite filet medallions with seafood medium rare. I received hockey pucks! Our waitress never came back to the table to check on us after serving. We found Zachary's when looking for seating at the last minute around 7:00 on a Saturday night. We were able to get right in and had a choice of tables. The restaurant had a great vibe. It felt like a place you come to be with people you enjoy. There were families with well behaved children, ladies, couples, etc. There was a live band for Mardi Gras which we enjoyed. They have a great menu with unexpected choices such as German braised beef stew and veal schnitzel. I had the trout and my husband had the Mardi Gras special of mixed meats. Both were excellent and beautifully plated. My favorite part was the front of house staff signing happy birthday to a back of house staff member. That alone made me love the place and speaks to the atmosphere and tone among the staff. One star was lost because the prices are a bit high, and our waitress was a tad unavailable. We sat with uncleared plates for a good 5 minutes even after most tables had emptied so it wasn't a big rush. read more

Cocktails that are crafted by a true mixologist...my wife said her chocolate martini was the finest she's ever had (she knows, trust me). A fine selection on the dinner menu without being endlessly long (what they offer is done exceptionally well) and presented like you were royalty. I am a neighbor. Been living in Palos Heights since 2008. Tonight was first time at Zachary's. I went with my college aged son. I must say that that staff was great. Very helpful and patient with explaining the dishes. I must say that the food was excellent! I started off with the calamari appetizer. It came dressed with garlic, red pepper flakes, and a bit of olive oil. What a lovely combination. The calamari was cooked to perfection. My son started off with the French Onion soup and he finished every bit of it, very good indeed. I call him a French Onion Soup aficionado, as he has had it at more than say 30 restaurants. This definitely ranks in his top 5. For dinner he had the Salmon, it was accompanied with rice, green beans, and a side sauce. Another winner in his book, and he is a picky eater. I could see that the salmon looked very moist and delicately prepared. He enjoyed everything on his plate. I had one of the specials which was lambshank over mashed potatoes. The lamb was soooo juicy and tender, with no gamey taste at all. It appeared to have been braised in a tomato based sauce. So delicious and a hearty portion too. Dinners also come with soup or salad. We opted for the cup of minestrone. It is a cold night tonight and you can never have too much soup to keep you warm inside. The soup was also served hot and was delicious. Definitely a homemade soup. The chunky veggies reminded me of the soups that my grandma use to make and that is a big complement, as I believe that she was the best cook ever!
